JUMP Festa 2009…..(8)....

Okay so ads started running in JUMP for JUMP Festa 2009(8) and f*** me in the belly-button there's going to be a DB stage.

Anyway besides that MONUMENTAL news, there will be two OP stages as per usual on the 20th and 21st. This year I'm not preoccupied with A GIGANTIC SURPRISE PLAN TO PROPOSE TO MY GIRLFRIEND so things should run a lot smoother and I'll have more free time to dick around. Looks like Oda and the 'SH Crew' will be there in their full glory for both days.

I'm excited.

And reason for excitement there was. This was easily the second most exciting JUMP Festa I've been to. My first time at the 2004(3) JF was kick-ass because Oda gave out so much background information on the story. Since then I've been to the 2007(6), 2008(7) and now 2009(8) shows and this easily beat out the past two years. In fact, there were more MAJOR seiyuu-related OP events going on at this show than I can ever remember. At the 10th anniversary there was some sweet stuff. Like Oda's wall art, Sunny, boat races, the HUGE display of original artwork and such, but the seiyuu stuff was limited to Tanaka doing a stint here or there, one smaller seiyuu stage talk and the big OP Stage. But this time, no matter where I went, it seemed like there was a seiyuu doing something somewhere. I had literally no time to sit down and waste. In fact, there was so much, I simply couldn't see it all. I completely opted out of seeing the small seiyuu stage on Day 1 because I was beat.

For the FIRST time I can honestly say the seiyuu's worked their asses off. No seriously. Normally I give them shit because they say, "I'm so busy so I'm glad I could be here.", yeah, for like a 2 minute stage. But they were at the show ALL day and popping up at different places, it was literally a full day of work for them. Bravo.

Then there was the info we got on the series and Movie 10! WOW! Just wow. A rough timeline for ID, unveiling Jinbei and the big surprise for Oda.

A big thanks to Taiar for being there to convey everything and translating my cryptic texts. I didn't send as many texts during the show this year which kept you waiting and I apologize for that but it gave me an opportunity to take copious notes and ultimately give you a more detailed report after the fact.

Well 2009 will be the 25th anniversary of the first chapter of DB (it officially will be in late November) so having a big DB-celebration would be appropriate.

Sort of wonder what else this year's Festa will have outside what we should expect from Oda this time around…though another scary thought: not only will '09 be DB's 25th...it's also the 10th anniversary of Naruto...

They mentioned a "Christmas Party" on the second day of Festa…so we're probably going to have to put up with more nonsense. My suggestion to Greg or any other Festa attendees: go to the first OP one.

Also, it's pretty much 100% confirmed (after checking the page yesterday) that the first Naruto stage will kick off the 10th anniversary. The only thing I really want this year if we have to put up with celebrating Narutards...is Oda doing a pic of a character so amazing it puts Kishi's Luffy (which was not bad BTW) to shame.

And the 'Christmas Party' also happens every year so it's not something new, the reason Day 2 was um 'lame' last year was because it was basically a review of the series since it was celebrating the 10th anniversary. And while this may not have been much fun for those of you like me who expect some new and intriguing information to be revealed, ask yourself, would you enjoy the VA's of the entire SH crew on stage live in front of you reenacting famous scenes from the series before your eyes?

And for the record, regarding Naruto, the biggest honor it gets is to close out Day 1, a spot which has traditionally gone to OP, but Day 2 it's back to OP for being the show closer. All this means for me is, Day 1 will be a FUCKLOAD easier to get back home without everyone leaving at once.

Get your decoder rings on girls and boys. JUMP Festa is this weekend. I'll be attending Day 1 with Haruka. On this end, if all goes well, Taiar should be relaying my texts and pictures.

Day 1 may not be as pic-filled as previous years. The OP Stage is an hour earlier than usual and an hour before that is the DB Stage which I'll need to line up for at LEAST an hour in advance. I will try to get video of the OP Stage but I doubt I'll risk trying to get video of the DB Stage. The OP Stage is way more important to me than the DB Stage and I wouldn't risk getting thrown out before the OP Stage for anything.

In short, unless we get up ass-crack-early we won't have much time to dick around. Day 2 I'll be going alone so I'll have time to take pics etc. But who knows, we'll see.

US Eastern time I would be say anytime after 6-7PM you can expect me to post that I'm leaving.

Unfortunately it's not a matter of courage anymore insomuch it is intelligence and cunning. You simply cannot film the entire event in any watchable format anymore. They actually have people IN TOWERS watching the crowd. Not to mention the mass of people makes it all but impossible to catch anything unless you stick your camera up in the air which….yeah. It's tough but if someone manages to do it, kudos!
