@Link-san:
Kami means god, it can't be worse than king. It's already been discussed a few pages back.
It's Engrish. I know what it means, but if it's a choice between Kami and King, I'd honestly rather King. Engrish just irks me.
@Vongola_Boss_XI:
Well, I think we have to wait and see - they may be using Kami as a title - instead of calling Gan Fall or Eneru the god of Skypiea, they will call them the Kami of Skypiea, but Eneru's references to himself as a god may be left in tact, given that Viz translates Naruto AND Death Note….and every other page with Pain and Light Yagami involves those characters refering to themselves as deity.
Oh, definitely. Gan Fall outright says that god (or in this case, Kami) is just a title that the Skypieans give to their leader. But the bits with Pain and Light were in the sense of lowercase god, which just means an extremely powerful being. Nobody complains about books of Greek mythology, or the movie Hercules. But Eneru refers to himself as a god in the uppercase sense, meaning the supreme ruler of all. I know he comes off as a polytheistic style god, and that is what he's modeled on, but the rulership and the striking down enemies with lightning make Eneru seem much more like the G-d of the Old Testament. Besides, if he's called Kami, then his referring to himself as a god won't make sense. The whole point is that he takes the title literally.
@Crossword:
I doubt it, since Viz is using Shandians instead of Loftrans, like what FUNi had to do. Didn't they also use ''Wyler'' too?
Really, the only thing I'm worried about are the names of Blackbeard and his crew getting the 4Kids ones, but since Viz seems to be ignoring the Pirate Carnival 4Kids names, they'll hopefully ignore those too.
Ah, that's right. It's been a while since I saw the FUNimation dub of Skypiea, I'd forgotten offhand what terms they used. So I guess Viz is finally gonna get rid of 4Kids terms from now on, since nobody played Grand Battle anyway. Toei was just being paranoid, even assuming that keeping the 4Kids names was in and of itself a good idea. Which it wasn't.
