Do the people griping over the name changes not grasp that Viz has terms they have to use (Zolo among them) due to them being trademarked or some shit.
if its true..wow.. is bleach losing popularity or something?
It's Bleach what does it matter.

A better question is why does people(or one person) keep digging up bones they(or he) dug to the ground countless times already.

It's been at least 5 years and it still manages to be a smack in the face to them every time.
In other news, I heard OJ went free.
I love how people are complaining about people complaining about name changes.

people think its a crime not to share their thoughts and feelings about this.
Shit! I'm Angry Because They Changed Naruto's Name To Sanji! This Is A Disgrace To Oda!
RAAAWR!
I'm glad my post could bring some "fun" into this thread.
hahahaha hey here's an idea. someone post a long paragraph about how viz is doing an awesome job in here. the majority of posters might have heart attacks upon reading it.

Watch out. The Viz Knights would get you. Yeah, man-made terms are that dangerous.

Okay.
Viz's translation isn't the best but it's pretty accurate. It's not like they changed everyone's names. Just a small few, and they're like insignificant. The biggie we have is Zolo, big deal. In Japanese it's pronounced the exact same. Germans have it much worse, and in Greece isn't Luffy called Drake? Yeah, so stop complaining about something so small.
I can understand the whole Kami deal. I can accept it and I hate "nakama" and other weeaboo terms, but that's because nakama is just a random word while at least Viz has an excuse to use Kami. I mean if it wasn't a problem, they would have just used "God." At least they started using it later on, AND they explained what it meant. Still a minor annoyance, but oh well.
Then there's Oh Come My Way. Isn't one of Bon Clay's character songs called that? Still sounds flamboyant, so whatever. No biggie to me.
At least 99.9% of the artwork is unedited, the covers are still intact, and most importantly, the comic isn't flopped. They don't cut panels or anything either, so…
And the stuff I mentioned isn't even constantly throughout the story, besides Zolo. But still, at least it's not a major and completely new name.
If you're willing to accept a few flaws, you'll enjoy Viz's release or at least still support it while still being kind of annoyed here and there. But if you're an uptight purist, you won't like it or buy it (your loss), but with that logic, you shouldn't even be a fan of the anime (if you are).

Ha! They can't catch a fanboy. It's not possible.

That doesn't bother me so much anyway; it was one of the anime's changes, and even the Japanese version of the manga has adopted certain things from the TV version. Remember the Whitebeard Pirates jolly roger? Oda himself adopted the anime version after his editors nixed the manji. He even did it without so much as an explanation in-comic (he apologized in the author's notes for that Jump issue, though nowhere else as far as I know).
Now, if that were Viz doing the same thing, I'm sure they'd get jumped on for censorship and whatnot; but then we get into things like "authorial intent" and a whole other can of worms. :getlost:
VIZ will now be offering their titles on the iPad, including One Piece:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/viz-manga/id391613351?mt=8
The application is free on iTunes, and seems to not be available on the iPhone/iPod.
Only the iPad huh? Shame, but even if it is just the first few volumes, this is HUGE. I doubt there'll be releases simultaneously from the latest Jump until Japan starts going digital with manga, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
Also surprised it's free. Wonder if that'll last or if there's some catch that'll make people have to buy the manga. Not a big deal if it is a few bucks(not that I have an iPad so this wouldn't affect me), it'd just be interesting.
Pretty sure the app is what's free - not the manga.
The first hit is free, that way you'll be back for more later.

you have my respect mikey.
Did Viz say anything about if or when a Iphone/Itouch format is coming?
If they bring it to those consoles that would kick ass, I would def. spend 4.99 for a Manga volume online, not OP cause I want all the volumes, but other manga, sure
Now we only need Viz to stream the latest chapters on an app, that would be awesome..
EDIT: Also I have heard rumors that Bleach is being dropped from Monthly Jump, the newest one has a previw page for Manga upcoming the next year and while Naruto and OP were on there (along with the new ones: Psyren and Yugioh 5D) but Bleach wasnt on there so and there volume sales have been down latley so…...?????
Did Viz say anything about if or when a Iphone/Itouch format is coming?
You mean this?
Edit: Oh, it's for the Ipad.
Wasn't Picasso-whatever-it-is originally supposed to be a three part preview? It seems that it's two and done (thankfully), which I guess is a commentary on the reception the first preview received. It didn't help that a healthy chunk of the second preview just recapped the first.
In the past, whenever Shonen Jump has dumped a series, there's been an announcement of that fact and the final serialized chapter will end with a Continued in Vol. __! Bleach didn't have either of those so my guess is that it's still in there for now.
Yu-Gi-Oh 5D is a bit of a surprise if only because I didn't even know that series had a manga equivalent. Of course, I didn't know GX did either, but that's largely because I don't care about the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise.
Far as the online previews go, my guess is that it's at least partially designed to see if there's enough interest to justify including Toriko or Bakuman.
I think they're just doing those online previews because there's other manga series they'd like to show off that they can't fit in the magazine.
Past 2 chapters of Bleach have been … interesting surprisingly. I'm going to hold out hope on the series being salvaged as at least decent for shonen generic action series.
I kind of wish Shonen Jump was simply:
4 chapters of One Piece
4 chapters of Naruto
3 chapters of Bakuman
3 chapters of Toriko
I don't even mind Bleach that much, I actually really like volumes 1 - 25 or so. Just don't like the most recent arc at all...but my thought is that he wrote himself into a corner and had no idea how to get out and consequently made the manga kind of suck. So...well that's another issue.
But yeah, that's what I wish was in MSJ.
Also I still haven't gotten my December issue yet. Anyone else not get theirs?

Got mine, and according to a preview page for the January Issue they are adding Psyren and Yugioh 5Ds to the line-up. Personally I haven't read nor heard much from either series so I don't know what to think of this…
I just tried out the Viz iPad app. Downloaded One Piece first, of course.
The app is free, and the first chapters of certain manga (DB, Death Note, Bakuman, etc.) are free as well. Naturally, I downloaded One Piece's 57-page preview first.
It's gorgeous.
When you first open the book, you are treated to a jaw-dropping digital rendition of Romance Dawn's cover. Even better: the logo is labeled "East Blue" (the inner cover also calls Romance Dawn "East Blue Volume 1").
Every page that follows is crisp and appealing to the eye; it's bounds better than any downloaded quality of the older volumes. The navigation's flawless: slide left or right to flip, or tap and drag the marker to your designated point. All in all, it's a wonderful bonus for those willing to make the Jump (pun intended) to digital manga.
The currently available volumes are:
One Piece, Vol. 1 - $4.99
One Piece, Vol. 2 - $4.99 $5 for an entire volume?! Count me in!
The only problem is you need to sign in to VIZ Media to purchase digital manga. A minor setback.
just got the december issue today..finally..
=O You just got yours? So it's not just me then…I haven't gotten mine yet. What are they pushing back the date subscribers get the magazine or something? =/
Isn't it funny how Psyren is now rumored to be in cancelled in Weekly Jump after it's just been slated to appear in Domestic Shonen Jump? :ninja:

I got mine two weeks ago so i don't think so maybe it is the mails or not printing enough for some strange reason
Ohh ok thanks. I think it's because I re-ordered last month. I just thought maybe it was everyone when someone else mentioned it.
lol it's alright. The wait for the January issue is going to seem much, much shorter now!

Rumors: Dont belive them.
Mine showed up yesterday as well; I dunno what the deal was. Perhaps there was some sort of hold up processing accounts that had signed up for another year over the past month or so since a lot of people who resubscribed recently seem to have had the same problem.
so does anyone know or have any idea as to how much long there will continue to be 4 one piece chapters per issue ? also, is there not gonna be any bleach in the january issue ? cuz at the end of the magazine where the give a brief preview for what coming next month for each series, there'ss nothing at all for bleach.
Just got my issue today, despite the fact that it usually shows up around the 23rd of every month…
Still haven't gotten my December issue yet. Haven't checked the mail today yet though.
i've had mine since november 1st & i bought it in a book store.
It usually comes around the 22nd - 23rd for me.
ICv2 article about the makeover the magazine is getting.
do ya'll think the VIZ volume 58 will have that panel-shrinking for the two-page spreads like it did in the initial japanese release?
and UGH back to 3 chapters….ah. oh well...knew it would happen.
It'd be nice if they'd make international subscriptions possible.

Not necessarily, he says "right now we have three chapters" even though they have four of each. To me he sounds like he's saying: "we're keeping the status quo, though I don't know how much the status quo is."
Question: Would Ace and Whitebeard's deaths be in the December or January Issue?
Ace's death should be in the Jan. 2011 issue. Whitebeard's as well but only if it contains four chapters.
Ah, I see. Thanks.
@Zach:

ah. yeah i suppose. keeping it at 4 means that next issue will have two rather exciting events in it…
I hope this means 4 chapters of One Piece still…but if they're really restricting the page count to 300 and they're adding both Toriko and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's....maybe he really did mean 3 chapters of each? That would be pretty disappointing honestly.
4 chapters of One Piece per month keeps us current. If you think about it, there are about 45 chapters of One Piece per year in Japan. We're currently 32 chapters behind. Even if we release 48 chapters per year and catch up by 3 chapters per year on Japan, that still means we won't catch up for 10.67 years. We don't need to worry. I'm sure we can slow it down sometime about 9 years from now for a few months and let Japan get a little bit further ahead again.
3 chapters per month though (36 per year) means falling behind Japan again, which isn't good for anyone.
@Badass:
Ah, I see. Thanks.
Where have you been, I haven't seen you here in forever
Where have you been, I haven't seen you here in forever
I've been around occasionally. Not posting all that often, but around.
About.com does a pretty lengthy interview with the magazine's Senior Editor about the changes to the magazine.
http://manga.about.com/od/mangaeditorsinterviews/a/Shonen-Jump-Interview-With-Joel-Enos.htm
I still find it funny that one of the great new changes is introducing a series that is being canceled.
Anyways, it doesn't seem like there will be anything too exciting as far as changes go. It looks like they are just giving a newer look and making it all "cool." Why not something like one-shots in issues? Maybe ones from WANTED! or other one-shot compilation books.
