I can't really say I agree on Tate being a complete mess as OP probably has the worst budget I have ever seen in an ongoing series. He is one of my favorites when he got the talent working under him, and an episode that needs fluidity. Tomita and that guy that did the bounty hunter scene in SA are my favorites as well. It's a shame I don't see them too often.
Aside from that, there isn't much in OP for me to bother watching at all. When I watch animated movies or series, the technical aspect and concept comes first. I want to see something that's emotionally engaging or fun to look at, whether or not it's filled detailed backgrounds, or crazy fast with mindblowingly insane animation. Secondly it's the overall product or the feeling that describes the entire plot as a whole. Finally, I decide whether or not I liked it based on how well the first 2 factors played out. It could be awesome, good for what it was, or complete crap.
This is my taste when it comes to anime. Metropolis had a lame conclusion and flat characters, but the concept, animation, and art was fantastic. Loved it. Dead Leaves had a interesting concept with comic book shading and insanely "off-the-wall" animation with an art style that worked. Loved it. Soul Eater and FMA:B also worked really well for a series with multiple episodes. One Piece. Shit most of time.
When I look at other series that are ongoing, I find myself wonder why OP choose such a dreadful approach in the beginning. It used a style that aged really badly and I find the older episodes extremly hard to watch. The colors were terrible, and scenery(other than the ocean) looked like as if they were half-done most of the time. It didn't help that the animation itself barely had much impact as the action in the manga. There are rare times in where it works extremely well, but I got tired of watching episodes hoping that I'll see something that doesn't put me to sleep.
I'm sorry, but animation to me is more than just pretty pictures or even stylish fluidity. Hell, not even the artwork if I'm watching something completely boring. It's all about how well the entire package holds my interest. Aside from that, I don't really give a damn for those that think otherwise.
