I need one too, but I'm waiting for the next MacBook revision to make my purchase. According to reliable sources, they should be on their way within a month's time. Now if I could just remember whether I can get an English-language keyboard from the Apple Store in Shinsaibashi…

You're best bet in anything computer/laptop related is HP. They're just overall the best in the business. If you have to go for something cheaper, or just want an alternate choice, go with a Dell or a MacBook. I really dislike Mac desktops but their laptops aren't too band; same goes for Dell.

Okay i will get a HP Laptop but which one?
-
I'd actually recommend a Toshiba. I've had mine going on three years and nothing has gone wrong with it, aside from the screen cracking (which, candidly, was totally my own fault…).
-
Perferably anything from Dell, and get a waranty too.
-
Don't buy from DELL, I bought two laptops from them, my first one had a problem with it so I send it back. Since I liked the laptop, I bought another from them and that one had the exact same problem. And their customer support sucks.

Unless you lack a desktop (how are you posting?), get the mac. It has the best resale value, why spend 2000$ on a new Dell and sell it for 300 when you can buy a mac at 2000 and sell it at 1400?

With my mind :D,Just kidding I'm using the Family's Computer but I use it all the time

Dude, I have worked with dell ever since my first comp and there great.
There service is kind of meh, but there comps are great, waranty, waranty.
shall i sing the waranty song?
no? ok then.

Don't under any condition get dell
worse ever
trust me I have a degree in computer enginering
go with ibm, sony, or hp

Personally I'm partial to Gateway laptops.
I've had mine for 2 years now and the only time I've had any problems with it was the time I accidentally electrocuted it and the keyboard stopped working. Their repair services are excellent might I add XD

Wow. A great many biased votes in here. Want my advice? I have worked for a consulting firm where we were HP Gold Partners. I now work for a Corporation, and we are Dell partners. I have had clients who were IBM only, Sony only, Gateway only and also the mixture of the elements. Rarely do I ever see Toshiba or IBM only though, as they do not make desktops.
In my experience, for laptops:
- Dell: Pretty good laptops now. They used to suck. They are pretty good now, and their technical support is decent for certain things. Most companies have terrible technical support when it comes to troubleshooting though. If you need a replacement or warranty service, Dell is pretty good and quick about it. No problems there. Good prices, especially if you sign up (free) for a Small Business account.
- HP: Also makes pretty good laptops. I have had some hit and miss experience with them, and I would conclude that the retail laptops are decent – not great -- and the business laptops are pretty good. Technical support is decent, warranty service about the same quality as Dell. Prices tend to be higher than Dell.
- Toshiba: Next in line for choice. Higher cost typically, but more technical and high end laptops. Used to have a great warranty service, until everyone else began offering next-day and accidental damage service. Decent lineup. Some are lemons though. Of a good 3 or 4 series' of theirs, I have had a good portion of them all have the same Blue Screen issues about half way into their life span. All the remaining laptops are decent enough, and have had good durability.
- IBM: IBM makes great products, especially on the server and business side. For home and practical use however, I would stray from them as they are harder to deal with. IBM is somewhat the special brand, and has rarely been a better bang for the buck. If you inherit one though, you probably have a good product.
- Sony: IMHO is probably the worst choice for a laptop. Sony tends to aim for the younger market while trying to be sleek and sexy at the same time for the business market. They almost always cost more, and you get less. Warranty and product support are decent, but why pay more when you could get more for less? I find their fancy features break more often than naught as well. Not as sturdy as Toshiba (for example).
- Acer: Decent. Sometimes you can find a good price for a good product. Somewhat a lone wolf laptop series, but I would always check reviews before purchasing.
- Gateway: Decent brand as well. They also own E-Machines which can suck or be a good buy for the money. Overall you can find a mix of good and bad products from them, so make sure you check out their reviews. I own a gateway myself and have had it for 4 years. Still runs strong, but even at the time of its purchase I was wary about it since the other models were garbage.
- Alienware: Waste of money. Buy a desktop, or custom design a high end laptop of your choosing from another brand.
Case and point? Dell offers the best overall prices, and you can configure what you want for the laptop. They make decent laptops with replaceable parts (now, they didn't always), and have decent support. Toshiba and HP are your next best bet, but they do not have the same shopping cart that Dell might offer.
Advice: Shop around with everything everyone has said and find a few "best options", and then Google them for some reviews. Ask on here about a few models you might find as well, we might have coupon codes or suggestions. Lastly, I recommend always getting a warranty. Why? You are investing $600 - $1200 on something that can go wrong very quickly. Most companies let you swap a battery and charger cable for the laptop during that life cycle. Chances are you will need to replace both at least once during that time, and changing out either of the two usually pays for your warranty already. If your hard drive dies, which is common as well, you more than paid for the warranty. Anything else breaks, you just saved another $600 - $1200.

I'd go for HP and Dell, they make pretty darn good computers!
Butttt…..Dell service can suck at times, and not to knock anyone who works for dell, well, they can be pretty dumb and annoying at times!

I've been using a Sony laptop for around a year now, and it's been pretty good. Not very incredible, but reliable. The service is great too. I might recommend either that or a Dell.
