Yeah, but "the basic idea" can be LEAGUES different in execution.
For instance, Lupin the 3rd. The manga is totally different from the anime in style, tone, art style, character interactions, and plot. And the second anime is a different beast, and the third anime also different. ANd every Lupin movie has different directors and creatives on it and has a totally different feel to it. Every outing has the same five main characters, and the basic plot of "Lupin steals a thing which outsmarting Zenigata" but its easy to pick out a favorite outing, and even the way the characters are is distinctly different from one itteration to the next.
Or James Bond or Doctor Who. Same concept in every outing, vastly different executions.
Even Dragonball and Dragonball Z. "Purehearted Goku with a monkey tail goes on adventures, makes friends, collects dragonballs, and beats opponents that are bigger than him" applies to pretty much every single arc… but the first arc is nothing like Red Ribbon which is nothing like Piccollo which is nothing like the Saiyins which is nothing like Frieza. All vastly different despite being the same basic idea, and even the same cast of characters.
Or, to use the shorthand thats popular currently. There's Dances with Wolves, and then there's Avatar. One of them has dragons and mecha. Same basic story when you parse it down to a one sentance description, vastly different execution once the different elements that make it unique come into play.
If the kids are inspired ad FEELING IT now, making it their own, its going to be way better than when they were just doing exactly what they were told and hating it.
I understand that, and I think it's entirely possible, nay believe, that Ahirogi did quite a bit of tweaking to the story to change the "outing" of it. I just don't think it was anything too dramatic. For instance, if they had been writing a historical piece about a man joining a group of Native Americans and then changed it to a story about blue aliens, I think Miura would've said something.
But, more realistically, I don't think they changed it from being a comedy to being a fullout action-packed manga. I still appears to be mostly comedy, which I personally do not thing is their strong suit and thus it probably won't last. Just my opinion.
@dogmatix:
Yeah but the one point you're all forgetting is that Iwase is way hotter than Miyoshi, so none of the creepy stalker stuff really matters.
…..................Wow. Just........wow.
@taboo:
I love iwase
there's something great about a character who's really talented, but also insane
i kind of hope they hook up
Well, as long as you understand it ain't ever gonna frickin' happen.
@robbybedfart:
Agreed. The girls should end up doing well together, I think.
