Well I've watched the series in Japanese primarily and I still think this is a crappy soundtrack. Also, there's too much of it. It seems like the Japanese are now just as afraid of silence as we Americans are.
-
I am disliking a lot of things. The soundtrack is one of them. And the momentum behind them. Gotenks fusion. Goku returns. Should be fitted with cool music. Instead its just silly.
And this is my first time watching DB in japanese. If I recall, the End Dub had their own soundtrack. Dunno. But anyway, Goku going SS, SS3 or Vegeta … it had the appropriate production behind it. Gotenks isnt new ... But come on! Dress it up. At least Vegetas rage was handled well. Though I am still not used to the Japanese actors, especially Goku ... which is a first. King Kai was atrocious.
But just like the film, man, I am just not feeling the tention here. The god is the antagonist, but he is not a villain. He threatens them with death, yet their fight will not be one of anger, revenge, ala Frieza, Piccolo. Bah.
Thats one issue non japanese fans are having, they have gotten used to the dub version instead of the japanese one..
-

Heaven forbid they use the GOOD Japanese soundtrack instead of the awful english one belted out on a casio keyboard during a bender as directed by Shuki Levi.
BUM BUM BUMBA BUM BUM BUM BUMBA BUM BUM BUM BUMBA BUM… isn't our music edgy? Vegeta's theme is two notes long! Badass!

I'll admit high pitched Goku takes some getting used to. But if you watch Dragonball first its much more natural… and in the actioney bits the screams and the kamehamehas and jovial tone get you used to it pretty well.
It always throws me when people have a problem with the voice since I got used to it like 17 years ago.
King Kai was atrocious.
Because he sounds like someone you should take seriously and respect instead of a retard with a lisp?
Kaio has always been one of the absolute worst dub voices.. along with old woman Frieza. And he's one of the only ones that didn't get recast to be at least a little better when they redubbed it for Kai.

They are free to use GOOD japanese music but this ain't it.

I watched the Eng Dub of One Piece first, the one that went up to a hundred episodes only. Three, four times. There, the transition to Japanese was easy. I haven't heard Goku's as a kid in Japanese, which I'll do later. Curious to see how (if) she changed her voice for adult goku.

No, because happy, relaxed, angry, furious, scared Kai, all sound the same.

But Robby Goku should absolutely not be voiced an old lady who tries so hard to sound masculine, he should be voiced by a manly sounding man who can do the character justice…..eventhough he's voiced by the same guy that sounds like a retard with a lisp.

'
And high pitched Fat Buu.All the bitching about Nowaza making Goku's voice sound too high and not a single complaint about Fat Buu.

I agree that the English DBZ soundtrack wasn't all that great, but the Japanese soundtrack was pretty good, I grew with the Mexican dub of the show and it had the original soundtrack. The soundtrack for DB Super doesn't make me feel anything, no emotions.
-
The only really bad use I've noticed so far is when they use the silly theme Gotenks has had for Goku's arrival instead of something more heroic and uplifting sounding.
-
So, Vegata failed and on next episode Goku will become a god.
-
No, because happy, relaxed, angry, furious, scared Kai, all sound the same.
That's because the voice actor is over 80 years old. He can't really do it anymore but they didn't want to replace him. If you listen to Z and his performance for Kaio, there's no problem in range.
-

Speaking as someone with no experience with any DBZ dub, I second this. Onscreen, Kai will be spazzing out, facefaulting, flailing his arms, visibly shouting - yet the VA performance doesn't reflect this. It might just be me, but I simply cannot link the voice to the energetic emotions on display when it changes so little with the contex. I
feel the same way about Gan Fall in the OP anime (and wouldn'tcha know it, its the same guy), in that his voice not once sold me on the drama of the scene, or the emotions of the character. And yes, the VA being very old is an explanation, but that doesn't mean all the above isn't in effect, and can't be jarring. And thats regardless of the english dubber being objectively worse.

Guys, Tarble confirmed NON CANON, he wasnt mentioned in tonights episode.
Shenlong says that the method for creating Super Saiyan God is written of in the Namekian book of legends
-
Why the fuck did Videl (or better Pan) turned Super Saiyan?
Why is there a legendary book at NAMEK knowing about a SAIYAN god… And why no one else knew about this book?
-

Strictly speaking it's a different universe than the main show but it's not like Vegeta ever brought him up anyway.
-
One hell of a transformation lol.
-

Well not really… In BoG they mentioned him as possibility for the ritual. Now he was simply ignroed as he never existed.
Now we have to ask... What has more weight? BoG or Super?
And really a fetus going Super Saiyan? Slowly I wish DBGT back
-
i think that is what people says going even further beyond.
-
Elder Guru knew about the SSJ transformation…. but I'm quite intrigued about this 'Namekian books of Legends'.
Episode was mediocre on the other hand. -

How much was Namek exposed to the Saiyan world and viceversa before the story began to even have this in said book?
-

Since Gregory is in Super, but not BoG, I'd say BoG follows the manga's canon (plus the Tarble story) and Super the anime.
-

How old was Guru again before he passed out?
Porunga probably has the answers about the Namekian Book of Legends since it was always implied Porunga > Shenron.
-

Before Tarble actually showed up, Vegeta never said one word about him either though so that's nothing new.
It may just not have happened yet in this universe though; Satan giving Goku that money was referenced in Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return so the latter had to have happened after the events we're seeing now.

True that…
But damn Super is so bad in my eyes. GT has already been a shitty idea. Dunno why they can't let the series rest in peace... Ok cuz of the money but still.
I hope Oda/Toei won't do such shit after One Piece has ended...
-
So? Comedic effect trumps all. Always been that way.
-
Where are fat Beerus and female Whis btw? Shouldn't they be showing up or does the anime not follow the manga?
-
Don't know what people find bad about Super. Episode 9 was great. Godly transformation with godly music. Gags and slow pacing like in old times. The whole cast together… I feel home.
-
He won't sell a baseball to the face but he'll sell that backhand.
-

Also this. Animations could be better sometimes, but I enjoy it alot. The only thing I still find disappointing is the re-telling of the last two movies, but if the new plot with the other Bills/Whis turns out to be interesting, I'm game :D
-
Episode 13 title: Goku aspires in going beyond SSJG.
So BoG ends on episode 12, episode 13 will start a mini timeskip before reaching FnF. We are finally gonna see how Goku reaches SSGSSJ.
-
It's going to be interesting that we'll get two major transformations within 26 episodes.
-
Its more interesting that marketing decided red glowy form wasn't enough to hold over for a couple movies.
I guess it sufferred some from looking like it was just kaio-ken and kind of jus tlooked like ordinary Goku or something (which was the entire point….) Much like Mystic Gohan they can't just let those simple transfomrations fly... its gotta be something DIFFERENT looking for the new toys! HAd Goku gone blue hair in BoG they mighta just kept that for a while.
Though Goku went super 1 in episode 66, Gohan went Super 2 in episode 185 and Goku went Super 3 in episode 245... so going from a 120 episode gap to a 60 episode gap... the next time being a 30 episode gap between forms isn't too crazy.
(And if end of z was 291+9 Super, that keeps it at about 60 eps between Super 3 and SSG)
-
I'd just take it as they didn't have a TV series planned, and it may have been decided SSGSS was an easy way to merchandise something from the movie.
-
I have a great and very creative idea for the future. Hopefully it gets real somewhen…
! We definitely need Pink Gold Pan!
! …and Baby Goku, Baby Vegeta and Baby Baba! -
I'd be totally fine with Pan taking a central role. The idea of that was fine.
Just the execution was terrible making her pretty annoying in GT. ALong with the Goku obsessing even then.
-
I'm just waiting to see what these 12 universes look like.
-
It'll probably be at least until after another timeskip maybe after the Universe 7 arc(after the movie arcs) that Pan'll probably even be Gohan's age at the beginning of Z. I pretty much always imagined she'd be the type of character that wants to go fight all the time though, and Gohan keeps dragging her back to study.

Wait what?
He went Super Saiyan 1 in 95, not 66…
Plus, another moment that was treated as a "New" transformation, at least at the time, was "Super Vegeta" which happened in 156. The Gap never really "Shortened".
-

Just going off the wiki. Probaby using the original edited english episode count or something
-
I'm curious to see if Pan will have a role in this.
But seriously, Toei? Show me Bra. How does the daughter of Vegeta not get more exposure? (yes I know she's not even conceived yet….or is she??)
-
I just wanna say that SSJ4 is still one of the coolest things in DBZ universe.
-

I believe she's a year younger than Pan.
And because all the kids got kinda screwed over in GT.
-
They gave Marron a nose. Unforgivable.
-

Pretty much, at the very least Pan got to beat up people. Bra….shopped I think.
They gave Marron a nose. Unforgivable.
Nose or not, Marron continues to be one of the cutest kids in Dragon Ball. (imo)
-
I wonder how long the time skip between these two arc will be. A few months probably? I don't know how long it was in a movies, but whatever that was you think it'll be the same?
I really wanna see Pan and an older Goten and Trunks.
Also, how many years has it been since the very beginning of the series?
-
Also, how many years has it been since the very beginning of the series?
Goku meets Bulma in 749. Z and fighting Raditz starts in 761, and Buu is defeated in 774. (then six months for amnesia wish on dragonballs.)
The current show takes pace around 778, the Frieza movie in 779..
The epilogue of Z is in 784, and GT is 5 years after that in 789. (The dub said 10 years for some reason but that makes no sense unless they're just not counting the epilogue.)
So the current story is about 30-31 years from the start of Dragonball. In both real world and the series, since it premiered in 1984!
-
am i the only one that hopes they use this chance to retcon pan into somebody else?

Dragon Ball Super Episode 13 – Goku, Go Surpass Super Saiyan God!As all fans know, these past few months, Toei Animation’s latest series has been retelling the story of the 2013 feature film, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. We reported here back in July on Saiyan Island, Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama revealed Dragon Ball Super will also cover Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F before it takes viewers into an original story of Goku and Vegeta traveling to a different universe. The first two images which tease the 2015 movie saga been revealed as they show Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku and Vegeta along with Golden Frieza.
The images are actually covers of the standard and limited edition CDs of Dragon Ball Super’s opening theme, “Chozetsu ☆ Dynamic!”, by Japanese artist Kazuya Yoshii. They go on sale in Japan on October 7 and will include an English version of “Chozetsu ☆ Dynamic”, a cover of the original Dragon Ball’s ending theme song (“I’ll Give You Romance”), and instrumental versions of both songs. The limited edition version will also come packed with a bonus music video DVD, which includes the opening theme.
