I'm gay! I mean… well, actually I don't like Naruto, so ignore this post.

I find naruto to be passable at least it's not as bad as twilight (there's a manga for this shit now…ewww)
-
Yup Gepetto my eyes nearly retreated into my head in shame. Twishite is actually the worst book I have read.
-
I like naruto still….....
it's not as bad as you guys make it out to be, if I read a chapter before I read your guys opinions it's fine, I mean listen to some one bash enough and anything can sound bad, I do hate sasuke though I hate everything about him, but i think once the fight against killer bee started it got good again, not part 1 good, but good enough
much better than bleach
No actually it's the biggest hardest crash of any manga in our lifetime, and its long painful blood curdling death is being drawn out in front of us like a still living squirrel ripped in half by a car. Refused its euthanasia by a bunch of witless doofs like yourself who keep pumping money and attention into the near cadaver.
-
I don't see how Killer Bee makes up for how terrible Pain was. Among other things.
-
A lot of this hate is down to people's opinions influencing others, and people following like sheep without providing their own explanations. Jerk Disease I am not one to antagonise, so what in your opinion makes the series so bad?
Also since a good opinion can inspire us all, what else do you read? I would be interested to hear your reasoning and answer, because you might just persuade me to read another series.
-
Zephos doesn't have to explain herself, she can make amazing similies .
-
My favourite character was Vegeta who was such a badass.
I freaking loved how he oblirated the punching machine and owned Pui Pui. That was so awesome.
-
Goku was always my favourite but I have a thing for main heros, not that type of thing lol, I just like them the most. Vegeta has a lot of my respect though, since IMO he is THE figure of pride in manga.
-
My personal favourite was Piccolo. Since I started with Z, I had no idea why he held a grudge against Goku, but I quickly grew to like him.
-
Ah Big Green, well that's his pimping name anyway haha. I forgot Piccolo was a sensei figure for a little while there, ahh that's why he was so badass. For some reason it is a law of shonen to have a badass sensei somewhere.

Sorry to interrupt, and I hope this is the proper place for this question. Someone I know asked me to help them find chapter 156 of DBZ, or the equivalent episode in anime. HE read up to that point and is dying to know what happens next, but doesn't merely want to be spoiled by being told. He wants to read or see it. I checked the places I know, and did a google search, and came up dry. Can someone help? Thanks if you can, and/or sorry if this is in the wrong forum or thread.
-
manga.animea.net- the only place I have ever found the complete set of Dragonball. This is a DB thread so you came to the right place! By the way you will need to look up Dragonball chapter numbers, but since I am feeling in a very good mood I can do that.
-
@No:
I never realy liked the Buu arc . I found Buu to be anoying , horribly designed and the whole arc was a terrible send off to Dragonball , especialy how it turned into a yet another of "raw raw fight da powerhouse" .
I prefer the Buu arc even with it's faults. Felt like Toriyama saying "screw you: if I'm keeping this series going I'm doing it my way!" after all the troubles he seemed to have and how generic it got with some of the Frieza and Cell story and characters and such.
And yeah: the fight at Baba's was definately one of the best parts of the series, though it felt like a perfect coda to the whole epic Red Ribbon arc. (then again the original DB far surpasses Z…even though the Vegeta arc has a couple of the best fighting moments)

thank you, if you stay on this thread you find youreslf hating you used to like, it's quite like a disease that's why I'm trying to stay away from sections they don't like (which is a pretty huge margin, i take it not much can please them)
clearly it's not as good as part 1 but it's definitely tolerable and the ones who don't think so are the one piece version of the bleach tards…. yes onepiecetards cause it can happen, there such big fan boys for their own series that any other series that rivals it is usually shot down
clearly bleach and naruto have faults but there's plenty of other great mangas that do to
-
Well it's sheep mentality, it happens in many places. Being a natural wolf well I don't take well to wolves and dogs, especially if people are just doing the popular thing. I like this form and am a part of it now though.
People can quit, it happened with me and Superherohype after the infamous Goku vs Superman battle. Mind you perhaps I can get fierce over these debates, but I keep hammering on about my Yonkou, that's because I made a stand to have 4 manga in my number 1 spot, why not if they are as good as each other?
EVERY manga has faults, like anything ever written. I still love Naruto, just not as much as a few other series. I don't think it's as bad as people claim but that's my opinion. Bleach is easily worse overall.

Vegeta said "Its over 9000" on Nicktoons…
Oh FUNi -

I think that's being kinda blanketed in your judgments.
I loved Naruto. It was a fun story and a good read all the way up until after the Rescue Gaara arc. Then, IMO, the story took a steep nosedive. I've actually read the whole thing up the the battle with Pain in Konoha where I had to stop. Other people's opinions had nothing to do with it, I quit because…
! Pain killing everyone and then calling "Mulligan" on everything he did was just ridiculous.
Also, Vegeta said Over 9000 because that was part of the Broadcast dub thing. They feared the things they did to make the dub good wouldn't go over well with TV Viewers, so they recorded a "Dubbie" track for Nicktoons.
-
That really sucks and at least Chris Sabat could have done it in a respectable manner like the Orange Bricks…But no ITS OVER 9000!!!!!! Had to rear its ugly face again, now people wont understand unless they get the DVD's. I mean its not a huge thing but c'mon man, its been like 15 years since this shiw, give it a rest, its not funny anymore.
But man did this episode have a lot of edits. Blood,Picolo dying was completely cut more-or-less and there was alot of Star/flashing hits.

I heard from somebody that Toriyama said in an interview that Db was supposed to end after the Cell arc, and then I hear from others it was the Frieza arc, anybody have any clue which one is true

Those rumors have been floating around for a while, but the fanbase has yet to produce the actual interview it supposedly was said in. So for now, these are completely unsubstantiated rumors, possibly started by some fans who didn't like the Cell/Boo arcs and wanted to pretend they could ignore them.
I'm totally willing to accept this as fact as soon as someone is able to prove it was actually said. But nobody has yet.
-
I don't think its ever explicitly said in one interview, since Toriyama has to be poitical in public, and even say things such as "I enjoyed GT".
But there's a lot of comments such as "I got so tired of drawing those characters and this story" in the interviews over the years, and the general pace and feel of the Cell arc feels like a slump that he wasn't all that enthused to do. (And the fact that pretty much every twist in the arc came about due to editorial suggestion saying they didn't like the design on the villains.)
Plus, throw in the fact that Super Saiyin is the ultimatley legendary avenging final battle uber fight with Frieza… and its incredibly easy to believe that Namek was intended to be the end of the series, but the series soared in popularity during that arc, so...

it's said in my book Manga the complete guide
I'll type what they have to say about DBZ the series
"Picking up with the first appearance of Goku's son Gohan, DBZ follows Earth's (formally) monkey-tailed champion as he discovers that he is an alien and must defend his adopted planet against increasingly powerful bad guys from space and beyond. Spaceships, time travel, aliens and cyborgs give this series a children's sci-fi feel, but the bulk of every book is hand-to-hand and fireball-to-fireball fight scenes: page after page of brilliantly choreographed, eventually repeatitive battles, usually set against the back drop of deserted wastelands so the artist doesn't have to draw buildings or bystanders. Clearly produced in as quick and dirty a manner as possible (But without obvious assistant abuse), Dragon Ball Z alternates between brief periods of exciting unpredictability and long periods of tedium, reportedly because Toriyama's intentions for the series (such as the desire to phas out Goku and the desire to end the manga after the fight with Freeza) were repeatedly outvoted by his readers and the demands of the industry that depended him. Working under these conditions, Toriyama proves himself a master of retroactive explanations, playing with the readers' expectations and fixing plot holes as he goes along. (However he is never able to find something to do with the leftover characters from Drago n Ball.) The series thus works both as world-saving soap opera and, on a purely visual level, as a flip book comic that almost requires no translation. Although never entirely humorless, the art is more square-jawed and more serious than Dragon Ball, with a few genuinely brutal moments (Some violent scenes involving guns, as well as a single moment of nudity and the original name of the bumbiling Mr. Satan, are censored in the Viz edition). In Japan, Dragon Ball Z was published as volumes 17-42 of the 42 volume Dragon Ball series."
they gave it four stars though which is the highest you can get
-
the book is really good it gives pretty good ratings and has some good views on stories
it says one piece is the spiritual successor to Dragon ball the original series, it says bleach is more style than substance it's really good and gives good reviews for back in the day, I'd definitely suggest it

Those are obvious stances that any newb that discovered anime in the last 3 weeks can tell you.
What does it say about Phoenix, Saint Seiya, Outlanders, Kimagure Orange Road and… I dunno. Flame of Recca.
-
The only thing it should be saying for Flame of Recca is "The manga you should be reading instead of naruto."
-
I'm more interested in what it has to say about Fullmetal Alchemist and Hunter X Hunter.
-
I was picking slightly older series that don't have as much acclaim stateside… but have been published stateside. (just to be fair. I don't expect any one source to know every japanese manga ever, and I picked names that should actually be known.)
Just to see if the book actually has any idea what its talking about or if its some doofus cashing in on that really hot mainja thing and picking out obvious mainstream current top 10 in the charts newb bait.
Cause you know. Manga the complete guide makes me suspicious.
-
Having Naruto on the cover isn't a really quality ensuring move.
-
I heard complete and I laughed. Oh how many hundreds maybe thousands of series there actually are.
-
Actually, I think I may have seen this book before. Is is thick and has an orange-red cover? Because if so, that book does cover a very wide range of series. Doesn't excuse them from giving Naruto four stars though.
-
robbybedfart : Could you list some ?
Complete ? Well it sure as hell shouldn't mention Mai Chan in any shape way or form :ninja:

Aside from that. The lazyman's quick list of a random 1000 or so titles.
http://www.onemanga.com/directory/
But hey. Looking at the amazon listing, the "complete" guide lists 900 titles.
So its not even as complete as OneManga, which doesn't even have Nausicaa or Akira.
-
To be fair there are lot of titles that don't deserve mention . As I said one of them are that bastard's (he had one of his name being the same as Kubo Tite's but I can't remember which) work .
Granted I'm not sure if this …..thing is even considered a manga but the guy is japanese so , go figure .
Also onemanga has some manhwa's on there .

well vthat's understandable, it's not going to go for a 50 page analysis on each manga if that's what you want, it's just telling you the basics so you can decide if you want to read or not
@robbybedfart:
What does it say about Phoenix, Saint Seiya, Outlanders, Kimagure Orange Road and… I dunno. Flame of Recca.
It doesn't have Sain Seiya or Kimagure Orange Road, but it does have outlanders and Flame of Recca
but if there not in America I would guess that's why, seeing as how I think this is for Americans who want to find a Published series to read cause I don't think they're trying to support reading mangas on the web
the main reason I posted this here though was because of the bold section, the whole Freeza thing had been debated a lot lately and I thought a source might be nice, that's all I was thinking, I'm not telling you to just buy the book I was just giving you a link with the cover and some good information on it so you could decide yourself whether it fits your tastes or not

What do you expect from one book? 900 titles is impressive compared to most shoddy tie-ins.
-
Does anyone know if it actualy does summaries and reviews on all of those titles or simply mentions most of them encyclopedia style ?
-
@No:

most summaries aren't as big but they still do a summary for each one, although a couple are very short
it also tells you about different types of mangas and gives a history on each and tells you what there like and samples, it also has the adult series, and I'm not talking about adult like Berserk (which is in there and had four stars) I'm talking more adult like, and it looks rather disturbing

Oh porn rather than violence then.

Did this really need it's own thread? We do have a Dragonball thread after all. A little searching and you would've found it.
