How's the console version?

Well if you still trust them It got a 7.0 across the board at Gamespot.
-
@Cyringohn:
I wish more people admitted to this since that's probably the reason why it's liked so much.
Unfortunately, people equate MY FIRST RPG with BEST GAME EVER MADE.
I feel the same as Geg on the FF7 issues. Although I personally still like FF7 because mostly I still find it enjoyable to play and I like the main cast (Cid), not cuz it was my first RPG(not sayin you're lumpin people or anything)
But on the other hand, people saying it's the "Best game" is not a problem for me. Since "best" is entirely subjective in the first place. But I hear where you're comin from.
-
Eh… I have more of a problem with FF VII's diehard fans than any problems I have with the game itself. My first RPG was actually Final Fantasy IV (the US "FF II" SNES cart), and when FF VII came out I was all over it. I like it a great deal, but it's not my favorite in the series. But my opinion of it has been tainted a little by the rabid fanbases of Cloud and Sephiroth.
-
FFVII was my first, and I still like it, but mostly because it had a great cast of characters (Sephiroth, Cloud, and Aeris aside). Gameplay-wise it's probably one of the weaker ones (I consider it just a step about FFX and it's "sphere grid" nonsense), and yeah the shitty fans are irritating.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. Final Fantasy VII was just fine (my first Final Fantasy game, but not my first RPG), I thought the characters were just fine, and I had a lot of fun with it.
And, Carter, I also agree with you on the irritating fanbase.
-
I found this by accident.
from what I read, you don't even play the soccer game.
-
^ oh yes, I think that was posted in the humor thread before.
-
Personally the worst game I've played recently was that Yu-Yu-Hakusho: Dark Tournament game for the PS2. Thank goodness I wasn't dumb enough to actually buy the game. The gameplay was horrible, it looked ridiculous and it just flowed really bad. Plus the way ki was used just didn't really go along well with what everyone could do.

Only difference between us is FFVII wasn't my first, but I agree with all yo said nonetheless. I consider FFVI to be the best one out of the series, but my personal favorite has to be FFIX. I felt it had the best overall cast of characters. Zidane's one of my favorite protagonists since he didn't come off as a serious brooding character and was actually a fun loving pervert; although he did have some moments of weakness I won't deny that.
-
Mario's missing and Mario's time machine must be the biggest videogame scams ever.
I can't believe I actually expected some epic platform game when I rented them.
-
FFVII wasn't my first FF game (my first were the SNES ones) but I also like it. I liked most of the characters as well as the cyberpunk setting. To be honest, I actually disliked it at first because I was really resistant to the change from 2D to 3D (because I have always liked 2D sprites better).
However, I also didn't much care for the battle system. I wanted there to be character specific commands to distinguish the characters more (besides Limit Breaks).
But overall I think it ranks at least in my top five FF games.

Dude, I rented Mario Is Missing for both the NES and the SNES!
I was so stupid….I was also six. -
On top of it, I didn't know a lot of english back then, so I got stuck walking around smashing those random koopa troopas hoping that something would happen.
I despise those games, but I must say that "Learn to Type Fast" Game of Mario for the PC was loads of fun.
-
FFVII was my first and I still like it too.
Just curious, do you guys actually hate Cloud and Sephiroth that much? Is it just because of the shitty fanbase?
They were really the first type of characters like that I have seen, and I had no problem with them.

I cant say anything since I never played FFVII .
Would Frogger for PC count? -
I didn't think much of them when I first played (though I didn't care a great deal for Sephiroth), but when I played again a few years back I could barely stand either.
-

There was never a soccer game just a shitty cartoon with an entire cast voiced by one guy. It does feature "Jigsaw Puzzle, Pairs, Colouring Book, Puzzle"
-
This may not be the WORST game ever, but I'm sure it qualifies for something.

Is it alright to mention a game I've actually played? =x

You've never seen a tortured soldier with a dark past who is struggling to kill his rival?
You've never seen a psychotic villain who believes he belongs to an ancient race and seek to destroy the world?
Man, you need to actually, you know, play and read shit.
-
Well that doesn't mean that he never saw those archetypes after playing the game for the first time
-
Even I had seen shit like that before playing FFVII. It's all over books and movies.
But on the other hand, people saying it's the "Best game" is not a problem for me. Since "best" is entirely subjective in the first place. But I hear where you're comin from.
I really try not to get annoyed when shit has a really large fanbase, but honestly, there's only so many times I can hear JACK SPARROW and CLOUD STRIFE and NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS before I commit suicide.
-
Well I was probably like 12 when I first played FFVII, so it's not like I had a great of literary experience
-
I never played final fantasy 7.
Was never really into solo gaming when I was younger. If I played a game, it was with my friends or in an attempt to get better at a game and/or unlock shit for when I played with them.
So I missed the magic I guess.
I was in love with the bomberman 64 series instead.
and I only get annoyed at "the best ever" statements when the person was talking like a faggot in the first place.
Like if a friend or someone goes "that movie was the best ever, no lie" in a discussion, no reaction at all. But if some queer starts going "FF7 is the best game of all time because of it's plot and characters OMG I played it 30 times", and then starts to belittle you when you say you don't like it(Evangelian fans), then it becomes annoying.
and for the record, I've met people like that offline as well
-
To be honest, FF7's story never stuck with me.
I enjoyed the game well enough, but I barely remember a damn thing about the story, except losing interest in it when all the Hojo faggotry began showing up closer to the end.
-

We got something in common there.
I still remember that guy who always flaunted that FF7 was the best game ever because it took up "REAL LIFE ISSUES".
Then I found out what it was about…...

No, actually I haven't. I was like 11 or 12 when I played it. Like I said, it was my first FF, my first RPG even. Before that I just played Pokemon and James Bond.
So no, I had never seen a tortured soldier with a dark past trying to kill his rival. Nor had I ever seen a psychotic villain actually kill someone and leave them dead.
I would however like to hear some of the shit you have seen that is like this, outside of other RPGs.
I'll be sure to make sure that my kids read about stuff like this when they're still youngins so they don't get blasted on a board for thinking someone was original at the time they first played it.
edit: hell, I was only 7 or 8 when the game came out. I didn't even know about it till several years later.
-
Did anybody ever play this?
It was pretty bad, and unnecessarily difficult. But still, it was the only GBA game I had, so that's all I played… for like a year. What was that, like 5 or so years ago maybe?
-
Hotlinking Not Allowed.

I failed :'(
…........ -
FF7's story wasn't great
I still loved most of the characters and their designs though
I mean FF8 is better in multiple ways (especially Gameplay. FF8 had one of the best gameplay systems), but 7 still had a much better cast, in my opinion. In FF8 I mainly liked Squall, Zell, Quistis, and mabe Selphie, whereas in FF7 I had motherfucking Barret, Cait Sith, Cid, Red XIII, Tifa, and so on.
-
Was FFVIII the one where the enemies leveled with you? Because I liked that, I hate exploring old places and running into stuff that give 7exp.
-
Yeah, that was the one Anbu. Ofcourse I found out the hard way that enemies level up with you (got stuck on Diablos and kept leveling up tryin to beat him).
And agreed with Carter due to the characters he mentioned. I was also a big fan of Reno and Rude as well (don't kill me). Although Cid and Barret were my faves to date.
And yeah, I can see how fans throwing the supposed superiority of their fave series in your face could get annoying. I met a few online and offline that do that (ain't gone say no names).
EDIT: And Kane and Lynch is even worse than they said. I played the demo for 30 sec. and hastily deleted that shit. The way you use cover is so rediculously retarded. You have to walk up to cover, position you camera, and then turn you characters back to it. (all of which you probably be dead before you can complete.)
-
The Turks were pretty great, I'll agree. I just limited myself to the main cast (hence why I omitted Laguna's gang; they were fucking great and deserved a much larger role).
The levelling up feature was neat, but it bit me in the ass when I decided to bulk up my lesser-used characters. 100 Squall and level 30 or so Squall and Irvine vs. a Lv. 100 Ruby Dragon (FUCK those things and their Breath) is not very fun. Good thing there's Tonberry's LV Down and LV Up skills, though I seldom used either.
-
I was also a big fan of Reno and Rude as well (don't kill me).
Hey, I loved the Turks too back then.
Rude was my personal favorite.
-
Yeah, the Laguna group was my favorite portion of those games (really dug the battle theme). Ward was my fave of that trio. I was dissapointed when you met them in the present but that didn't join your party. It was understandable tho.
Oh and for more recent shitty games, look no further than Bleach Wii: Race to Banki Rock Paper Scissors additon and Naruto 360. I kinda figured the Bleach game would suck even tho I didn't wanna admit it, but the Naruto 360 game showed alot of promise and failed to deliver. They both suffer from an awful, shallow combat system (although using Jutsu's in Naruto 360 was pretty neat).
So yeah, don't buy those even if you're a fan of the series.
-
I'm tempted to at least rent that Naruto 360 game. Most of the scores I've seen have been a little above average, and the game does look beautiful.
-
I can't personally vouch for this game sucking or not, but this is at least worth a look:
After seeing that, two of my friends rented the game immediately for a single afternoon.
-
Alright, I was talking about this freaking game. You'll only understand if you've actually played it…
!
-
Tekken 4..point blank…it dissapointed me...thank god Tekken 5 didn't...I love Tekken 5...can't wait for Tekken 6..I will own you all online in Tekken 6...
-
Atleast Tekken 4 had a cooler design. Tekken 5 just seemed sloppy at times :x
But Tekken 4 was like… USE the shove button!! We're forcing you toooo
and the water is now interactive :o yaaaay
-
Such a dissapointing game…so few characters too...Idk it was pretty though..but I think Tekken 5 graphics kicks ass...the only problem I have with 5 is that I can't seem to find to many people who play it online for the ps3 (ressurection)
-
Tekken 5 was awesome.
Tekken 4 was so disappointing. I always theorized that the entire game was just Heihachi having bouts of senility.
!
-
Tekken 4 was way better than Tekken 5 (Storywise)
-
In the canon story line of tekken 5 was Heihachi even in the 5th iron fist tournament…canon wise cause I know he's in the game...
-
He survived his apparent death at the hands of the JACK Bots so I guess so.
-
@Sandai:
Tekken 4 was way better than Tekken 5 (Storywise)
Not… really.
HEIHACHI MISHIMA IS DEAD was pretty lame, but so was a lot of things in Tekken 4.
and Tekken games are really retarded storyline-wise in general. HURR HURR DEVIL

Narutoitis, personally I don't mind it even if it's been apart of the story since the first Tekken.
