Anime is actually following the manga quite nicely. So you can watch that and skip the manga if you are more interested in seeing the flashiness unfold with fantastic colors, music, and so on. However, if you are interested in Araki's art back in the 80s, then by all means check it out. This website has the serie's parts split up quite nicely:

Endless Strategy,
I admit that i prefer the raw and manly style of Part 1 and 2, but i've seen pictures from the other series (i've read up to Part IV v 34, which has great art as well) and they look alright. At first i had a problem with that, but i've accepted it for what it is.
Now the anime on the other hand looks extremely unappealing for me. Maybe they should of used another studio or maybe it's a budget issue.
I'm not sure if that's how they speak in the manga (i've been told that there are some really weird sounds that cannot be translated in English or other languages i guess) but that doesn't make them sound less annoying. Yeah, it's over the top. Kaiji is over the top. But do they really have to shout every time they speak?
The manga is the way to go. It has better art + some stuff in the anime have been cut off. I don't like this modern Jojo, but that's me of course. Try and see for yourself.
"seeing the flashiness unfold with fantastic colors, music, and so on" - seeing that attempt at making things look visually cool, music which you won't notice because they're screaming the whole time and so on…
Ow yeah, although i admit that techno song was cool, it felt kind of weird having them talk about vikings and listening to that piece of music.
I was thinking since Zepelli could make good use of that wine, couldn't he use hamon on the buttons of his white tie and shoot them? Or at least hamon his hat and then kill Tarkus? I know that everyone is pissed about the early death of Zeppeli and that that is one of Araki's biggest sins, but still...
Also when Tarkus sliced the earth how the hell did those leaves end up lying on the end of the ground so that our guys could conviniently use them as a way to escape (normally you'd expect those leaves to be scattered around :D)?

I'm leaving this here. Read it only if you wish to be spoiled.
! And so the Biker stand user finally shows his face, or rather her face. She's the maid, Nijimura! But that's not all. She has the star birthmark on her neck and is the daughter of Holly Joestar!! She tells Josuke she won't let he see her mother and implies the Higashikatas are her enemies, despite working for them.
! And Josuke is getting weirder the more we know about him. After telling the maid she won't visit Holly if that is her wish, she then asks him to show her his tongue to confirm something. And hey, that's more bizarre than the four balls thing. Turns Josuke has two tongues… and four eyes!! (the cap covers the other two). On the additional parts there's seam (and I guess in his balls too). The maid then tells Josuke that he knew her before he lost his memories.
! The maid's stand is named Going Underground.Crazy stuff we have there.
-
Jojolion Chapter 16 raws are out as well.
! Josuke isn't afraid to punch a girl or two especially if she is his sister.
Four balls weren't enough, so Josuke grew two tongues and four eyeballs.
Araki just wants to remind you that this adventure might be bizzare at times. -
-
So now they're called EYE balls. . .
Jojolion is so good. SO GOOD. I'm loving it more than Steel Ball Run, and that was already kick-ass.
-
What a fucking twist.
-
! Going Underground? By the Jam? That's not even… what? Off all the songs about Bikes and Motorcycles in general, he choose "Pic unrelated"? Off the top of my head, it could have been Bat out of Hell, Bicycle Race, Born to be Wild, I Would Do Anything For Love, Motorcycle Mama... Cmon, Araki, at least make the Stand Names SOMEWHAT relevant to their appearance.
-
Stands having nothing to do with their namesake has been going on since Vento Aureo, nothing really surprising here.
-
! 4 eyes, tounges and balls?
We real bizarre now.
-
Quick question, maybe someone can help me because I'm slightly confused about something.
Reading through Part IV for the first time, and I got to the part where Kira kills Shigechi and grabs his button, now they're looking for Kira by investigating where the button came from.
But wait, why doesn't Josuke just use Crazy Diamond to "Repair" the jacket by punching the button? Wouldn't that make the button seek out the rest of the jacket or Vice-versa?… Why is the Speedwagon Foundation looking into the make of the button? Why are they walking from shop to shop to investigate?...
-
@Cyan:

Since Vento Aureo? try since the very start. Most of the Tarot stands had no correlation, and I don't see how Cream or Tenor Sax relate to their stand abilities either, if you're talking about musical references in particular.
@Demon Rin: a plot hole. Likewise, there's no reason they can't just use Purple Hermit to find Kira, since they obviously don't need the name or face of the person they're trying to locate, since they didn't need them to find Red Hot Chili Peppers' user.

Buttons are small and would probably travel pretty quickly. They're much easier to lose than say a hand.
-
Maybe the button was already in its original state since it's considered as a standalone object and vests arent produced with buttons in it.

We've seen Josuke be more specific with his abilities in the past however. For example, during the Harvest deal with the lottery ticket, Josuke was once able to pinpoint the lottery ticket and restore the components of the ink written on it into it's base form, which resulted in changing the name and number written on it. Then later, with the 5 mil yen check, he was able to restore the tore up pieces of the check to their original state, but the check still had the markings on it. That piece of paper didn't ORIGINALLY have anything written on it, but he was able to specify that he wanted to restore it with the markings on it when we know from earlier his power can affect JUST the markings. So Josuke could have easily "repaired" the button and specified the same way that he's trying to fix the Jacket.

if they do something as this, small as it's, the button could get lost in city's streets, it isn't?
-

I don't think that's a good excuse. I'm sure Josuke and co are superhuman runners to begin with, and they also have a stand with long range and a teleporting stand. They could also hold the button while it returns so it can't get away from them (and I doubt the button could escape Star Platinum's grip). They could also attach a tracking device or a long, durable string to the button to keep track of it. If all else fails, they could position a Speedwagon foundation agent at each of the tailor shops in town. The only way they couldn't have followed the button is if they didn't think of a plan AT ALL, and that's still assuming they can't just follow it on foot.
-
It was a necessary plot-hole, otherwise Kira wouldn't be the main antagonist Araki was trying to develop while he was hiding.
.
And some arguments in the case of not considering it a plot-hole: They wouldn't go head-on against Kira without knowing him, especially when he disposed of Fatty almost without traces, and maybe, MAYBE, Josuke's power on some object have some kind of range which can go after the ''other parts'' in order to return to its old state.
.
Anyway, ''Because Araki''… -
"because Araki" is probably your best bet.
I mean… can anyone in 10 words or less explain what Golden Experience's power is (that covers ALL that it does).

"Control and creation of living things, also from inanimate objects"

I just caught up, and what is this.
In SBR there was the whole Jesus' body concept, so it made me think about something.
Would you like something like this?
Part 9: Holy Hands
It's the story of Josua "Jesus" Christ, trying to uncover the location of the Pillar Men. His Stand is Called Holy Hand, and it's able to make illusions.
He gathers 12 friends, and the start, for an epic adventure across the Romanian Empire.
Meanwhile, Judas Brando, the last Ripple user, is searching for vegeance. He want to kill the Pillar Men. He masters the Ripple, and it evolves in a Stand, called Bad Religion, and has the power to add time(For example, if someone shoots him, he's able to add time in-between the time the bullet flew to him, and is able to avoid it).
Josua and Judas meet eachother, but the 4 Evangelists(Stand name: Tesament, able to hypnotize people by making them read what they write) corrupt Judas, that fights Josua.
The later is defeated, while the first, freed from the hypnotision, kills himself.
Plot twist!
Right before dying, Josua uses the Stone Mask on his Stand. It evolves, it is now able to make his illusions real. His owner dies, so the Stand dies too. But because of the Stone Mask his body becomes a new entity, known as Jesus. -

Firstly, that's a non-sequitur. Secondly, it's difficult to give a definition or explanation of anything in 10 words, so of course it would take more than 10 to explain Golden Experience. But fine, I'll give it a shot (I presume you aren't including Requiem).
"it gives life and reflects damage from the animated objects."
-
Firstly, that's a non-sequitur. Secondly, I think most definitions for anything are more than 10 words, so that's a heavy restriction to apply. But anyway, I'll give it a shot (I assume you're not counting Requiem).
"Give life to objects and reflect damage from them."
I guess that was a little unfair, my point was that most powers could be described simply to give a grasp concept on what they do.
Demon Rin's is actually perfect aside from, I'm not sure controlling is the right word?
And what about when he punched Bruno? What the hell was that? AND he punched a gun and turned it into a banana which isn't living (which he used to kill that fat guy)
-
And what about when he punched Bruno? What the hell was that? AND he punched a gun and turned it into a banana which isn't living (which he used to kill that fat guy)
A Banana is a plant, it's no longer alive once you pick it from the plant, but it is a plant but as a plant it IS a living thing, just not the kind of living that we usually think of as a living thing.
As for when Gold Experience hits something that is already alive, that's where the "Control" comes in, but that might have been an awkward way to describe it. It's like how Oda explained in an SBS how the Human Human Fruit Chopper ate works. If an animal eats the Human Human Fruit, it becomes a human-zoan. If someone who was already human eats it, they become the pinnacle of human perfection.
Same deal when Gold Experience hits a person, their mind becomes super charged and able to process thought much faster and more efficiently than normal people. If Giorno wants to however, he can go further, he can push the person past the point where their mind is efficient and make it work SO fast that the person's body can no longer keep up with how fast his/her mind is working. This results in his mind going so fast that what is happening around him is perceived by him as going extremely slow.
That's where the "Control" part came in with my description. Giorno has some level of control over life to the point that he can modify a living thing, and turn inanimate objects into living things.
-
but the banana was picked wasn't it?
That's why that bothered me.
-
I never got what Giorno did to Leaky-Eye.
-
So I'm up to Part 2, halfway done. I have to say this manga does have a lot of very flamboyant vibes. :ninja:
The posing in odd stances gives me a good chuckle. I like that this is spanning generations and utilizes a bit of history. So far, it's got my attention. Off to read more.
-
but the banana was picked wasn't it?
That's why that bothered me.
It's still a living thing, just a severed part of a living thing. When Giorno does it with Body parts to counter Baby Face's ability, it's the same thing. It might be better to use the word "Organic" rather than "Living".
He has The ability of creation of Organic things from inanimate objects.
What he did to Buccellati wasn't an actual function of the stand so much as a byproduct of using the Stand power to create organics on something that's already organic.
It's like, lighting something on fire isn't the stated function of an oven, the function is to simply heat things up with radiant heat, but if you take a roasted chicken that's already piping hot and put it in an oven, it'll start to burn and possibly ignite.
-
@Pyromonki: He turned the gun into a banana, not the reverse. Even if it died because it was seperate from a plant, the Banana was alive the instant he gave it life.
@IgorGB: Leaky-Eyed Luka hit the frog that Giorno had given life to with a shovel. The damage to the frog was redirected to Luka, per Gold Experience's abilities.
-
The situation with Leaky-Eye is just another byproduct of Giorno's "Make living organic things" power. The things Giorno makes have protection on them. Attacking them causes your attack to rebound and hurt you.
-
I have to say this manga does have a lot of very gay vibes. :ninja:
Flamboyant would be a better word. More PC, too.

Yes. I suppose that works. Although I personally feel it's beyond that. It's like watching Top Gun. But I edited my prior post as to not offend.
The art is super difficult for me to look at in this. And the dialog is…Odd? I'm not sure if it's because it's old and the translations are wonky, but half the time characters talking sound extremely strange. I'm only on part 2 still and I'm a bit curious if the art gets a bit better, on a technical level. Definitely has it's own style and I wonder if the impossible stances are through out the whole thing.
I do like those pillar men Cars ACDC and Wham lol.

How are you liking Broseph?

The art does get better, but a lot of the scans get worse unfortunately. And yeah, JoJo dialogue is largely unnecessary and just explains what you are seeing.

Nah, I don't think anyone would get offended at that. I was just pointing it out for accuracy's sake, because all the Jojo males are highly heterosexual and produce heirs all the time.
Not to mention, Jotaro's inspiration was Clint Eastwood, who is as manly a man as I could imagine in and outside film.
-
Well, I finally got to steel ball run and tbh this is probably the 2 nd best part for me after battle tendency, I've also been hearing good things about jojolion, can't wait till I catch up completely.

The art becomes more polished in part 3, but it's not until the latter part of part 4 that it leaves behind it's similarities to Fist of the North Star and becomes a very distinctive, excellent art style. Generally speaking, the art only continues to improve as you go forward. As for the dialogue…as with the art, it gets better. It never really bothered me after part 2, but I admit that the dialogue is more unnatural than some other manga. The stances stop becoming so blatant after part 2, and become more confined to the chapter titles, but they never go away entirely.
Wham is one of my favorite villains. AC/DC is my least favorite of the Pillar Men, but he gets a few points for having the most blatantly impossible music reference in the series. Really? AC/DC? You're naming a being older than humanity itself after a band that's name is based on the the names humanity gave to electrical currents?
@Mei-O Rayleight: Yeah, Steel Ball Run is my very favorite. Battle Tendency is close, but I tend to find more of it's flaws each time I read it, whereas Steel Ball Run was even better on the second read.
-

Producing heirs isn't enough evidence for me lol. I'm not hating on it or anything, I'm just amused by how over the top and blingy a lot of the covers are.

! Am I the only one that knows of gay men fathering children the natural way? Lol.
At any rate I'm enjoying it still. I'm trying to get through it it all within a week or so. I want to start watching the anime as well. Is it super graphic like the manga? There have been a lot of scenes that made me super squeamish.

Okay. I'm not trying to turn this into a serious discussion. Doesn't matter what you defend it with. I still get those vibes. Not saying everyone has to see it that way. Just that's how it looks through the way this artist draws out stuff to me.
-
I still get those vibes. Not saying everyone has to see it that way.
No,I'm not denying the vibes. It's pretty hard to deny them(friggin' Pillarmen),they are pretty hilarious and they only get more intense as time goes on(like… Part 5 and onwards...).
It's JoJo's FABULOUSLY Bizzare Adventure.
I'm just pointing that, canonically speaking,Joseph is the most hetero of them all.
-
Oh well you just spoiled me on some stuff. Lol. But that's fine.
I'm still not quite liking any of the characters. Ceasar and Cars. Maybe Wham. But for the most part I don't really care for a lot of the cast.
-
@Cyclone: That's the thing with Jojo, it feels like a classic shounen (more like seinen now but old shounen did look like some seinen for eg fist of the north star) however it brings in it's own flambouyancy and uniqueness. The mains in shounen haven't been manly action men in a long time, since shounen got more realistic with it's protagonists. I don't think many 13-15 year old Japanese boys would have the bodies of manly musclemen! XD
-

Not quite, the broadcast version is pretty censored.

Well maybe we should read as Acca Dacca (or something like that), which is a nick-name from their home country Australia.
Producing heirs isn't enough evidence for me lol. I'm not hating on it or anything, I'm just amused by how over the top and blingy a lot of the covers are.
Araki uses a lot, and I do mean a lot of references from fashion magazines and photo-shoots. Several of the covers are direct copies of fashion photos with the model swapped by the JoJo of the time.
If you search for a bit you should find image comparissions easily.
