Tenten is cool in the 5 or 6 panels she got since the manga started. She called Naruto on his shit, that alone give her lots and lots of positive points.

But when they are constantly sidekicked to the male leads, crying, beg for help, lose every fight they are in, state themselves "I am worthless and I must depend on you to take care of me" and are consistently relegated to role of "pregnant and in the kitchen"… THEN theres some sexism going on.

But it doesn't mean that the writer is trying to be sexist at least I don't believe that.

A while back on the Funimation Forums there was a similar arguement about how the DBZ writer made black guys in the show all have big lips and look monkey like but white people look normal and they called the writer racist because of it.

I'd blame popularity if anything.

I've found that p(ban) = rate(post)*time(online). Like Godwin's Law for nazis, it's only a matter of time before people who love to talk say something they shouldn't have. And when people genuinely want to hear what you have to say, you're highly encouraged to speak your mind.

I've followed joekido's model and went on a posting diet, because I've gotten pretty close shaves in the past myself.

I don't believe Kishimoto means to be sexist. He just can't write female characters to save his life. And boy, does it show.

In the first half of the series Kishi had many tough female characters that could hold their own against any of the guys. Maybe not win a battle, but they could at least hold their own. In fact, Temari was undefeated as near as I can recall, and Tsunade was the equal of Jiraiya and Orochimaru, who at the time, were the strongest characters in the series, and she was declared to be the strongest in the village.

Now they are all just cheerleaders, that cry and weep about their uselessness, just waiting for Naruto to show up and save them (even Tsunade) and fail at any and every objective they attempt, and fawn over Naruto after he displays his mighty frog power.

Or, confess their love only to be ignored for 82 chapters and counting.

I'm half-n-half with gabzilla on this one. He just lost his touch when it comes to writing with women (or characters in general).

That's not really racist, in context of Japan. For the most part it seems harmless, not really done out of spite or purposes humiliation like your average issue of Captain Marvel. You get the occasional Go Nagai sort of situation from time to time, with drooling, muscled giants black as night except for their glowing eyes, but for the most part, it doesn't seem that racially charged.

Now something like, say, the rumor where Toriyama intended the Namekians to all look like Mr. Popo so he could kill them off, that'd be a little different.

I'd have to agree. I don't think Kishimoto tries to be sexist, but when you consider how "useful" the female characters have been since part 2, it will be seen like that.

That would carry more weight if it was Granny + Sakura over someone like Kiba instead of one of the more dangerous characters in ShinobiWorld.

that was just ONE time and chiyo was very old and sakura is well you know sakura. and again that is only ONE time.

Absolutely, but Second Half Naruto has been unequivocally awful, pivoting away from the tremendous cast of characters in the Chuunin Exams and transitioning to The Orange 'n Emo Show.

The manga has tremendous failings with all of its characters, not just the women. Just because the women are being written poorly doesn't make him a sexist, it makes him a hack.

Kishimoto said in an interview that the way Sakura acts is how he believes a realistic girl acts and he sealed that comment by saying his idea of a heroine is somebody who doesn't understand men.

It doesn't excuse his sexism at all. Quite the contrary.

Naruto beat several Akatsuki by himself, 5 hearts guy, 6 bodies of Pain (all at once!)and possibly another I'm forgetting. Sasuke beat several by himself, Orochimaru, Deidara, Itachi, Danzo. Shikimaru beat his by himself. Might Guy beat Kisame by himself.

Hell, 12 year old Konohamaru was able to take out a Pain body temporarily.

Sakura's the only one that's needed help to take down a most dangerous character in shinobi world.

So yes, it DOES carry weight. takes 2 girls to do what 1 guy can do in Kishi world.

Whenever the topic of Kishis female characters come up, my first thoughts go to the chapters where Sakura lied about her feelings to Naruto then KO'ed her teammates, only to fail miserably at her objective and start to cry instead of stabbing Sasuke.
After which she instantly gets her life saved by a man.

Then I don't really bother thinking of anything else.

Then I wonder what goes on in the head of Sakura cosplayers.
