You know what would be cool as an extra on the DVDs, having a behind the scene look at dubbing One Piece (not sure if anyone has said this yet). Like for Season 1 part 1, they have a clip showing recording sessions of the voice actors, and then a small interview with Mike McFarland. Who knows maybe FUNI will include some cool extras on their DVDs, besides trailers for other anime dubbed by them lol.

Already pre-ordered the movie 8 DVD, and well I'm really looking forward to may for the episode DVDs <3 I hope they include dubbed (and undubbed) openings and endings with no credits as extras on the dvds, and some interviews too xD
-

Sure. They always do that. The only anime-DVD I own that doesn't have a creditless opening and/or ending would be the fourth uncut Naruto-boxset. I'd be very surprised if they don't include one.
-
Give us some reviews of the movie 8 dvd if you wanna.

That WOULD be really cool, and actually I wouldn't be surprised if they did that. They did the same kind of thing for Tsubasa Chronicles–thought it was interview instead of sessions, and I started to watch them but I laughed when I saw Vic was first and I had to turn it off...I've seen alot of him, I kinda know him. (Kinda being the word, but thats way too off subject. lol) And it would be cool if they did the japanese version of that as well, because Funi added a cool little 'behind the making of' for the FMA movie DVD, and they showed the creators of the anime and even short clips of the seiyuu (Romi Park actually IS short, lol). I'd love to see something of Mayumi and the others, all I have is tiny pics of them I got off of East Blue, which looked like got scanned from the LogBook.
They should also do a character profiles thing, it would be funny to see if they get all the background facts right, or if they stick to the 4kids crap (and to see which way they spell the names XD).

I can't wait until the uncut DVDs come out, after seeing how everyone acts in Movie 8 for serious, goofy, and fight scenes, I can't wait to see Luffy vs Buggy! ^_^
-
Wonder when or if they release any of the movies if they will add the little "Movie premiere voice actors on stage" thing?
-
Anyone know where I can hear the new voices or see any new clips?
And back in October, I bought a 4kids Dubbed DVD of One Piece, and it also came with a free One Piece Card for the One Piece CCG. The DVD was pretty good, but then again it's 4kids material. I gotta say, the music playing in the background of the menu screen is really good. -
Well, clips are all over YouTube. You haven't seen the FUNi dub yet?
-
I wonder if they will use the same covers as the JP DVD's…
-
Doubtful, due to how there will be no singles.
-
Well the inside of the Naruto boxsets still features some of the original cover-art. So they might just do the same here.
-
Just look at the DBZ, Fullmetal Alchemist, and other series from FUNi boxsets and such, that's what we'll be getting.
-
amazon has a preorder for the uncut DVD

And there it is. We have a title and a relatively good sale price to boot.
Hope we get more info and boxart soon.
-
$35… not bad. Not great, but not bad.
-
Wow, if it's really 35 dollars, and it's really the first set of episodes of One Piece, that's a pretty good deal. Definitely better than the 50 dollar projection stated several months ago.
-
Well, no new info at Katsucon except for a few things:
From AnimeOnDVD:
One Piece Uncut Season boxsets - available starting in May. Keep checking for more info in March about whether they will begin release from the very beginning or from where 4Kids left off. Also, film cels promo items are coming in March. Start looking for these at the conventions next month if you're a One Piece fan.
Well, my guess is that we'll get info/etc. at Anime Boston, which is a month from now.
-
I'm not gonna order online, I'll wait for Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is selling all the DBZ & Naruto boxsets for $27 each, as well as the Bleach boxset (which is 20 episodes!) for $35. I'm confident the price is gonna be around $25-$30.
-
Charagon you don't buy Anime often, do you? Thirty-five dollars is a steal!!! Espicially considering how much One Piece must have cost FUNimation and how much they spend per episode.
-

If Wal-Mart does sell the One Piece DVDs, then that's where I'll get it, too. They sell the uncut Naruto DVDs there, so maybe they might have One Piece, too.
We're also getting a Sam's Club next month, so it might be there, too. Who knows?
-
The only question I have is how many episodes will be in the boxed set? And is this for the no-thrills version (no extras) or the special edition?
-
That will be announced down the line but I would assume it'll be thirteen episodes.
-
You know what's funny? How "O" comes right after the letter "N".
When searching for anything One Piece, I always have to look between the rows and rows of perfect Naruto sets, and the letter P. Which always seemes to come right after the letter "N". Never a good sign..
Naruto, right next to Paprika
No One Piece in sight. Yea, you guys know what I'm talking about.weeee've all experienced it..
That will be announced down the line but I would assume it'll be thirteen episodes.
There.. is a preview for the box set on Movie 8 dvd, correct?
-
No. It's a simple still image which says the first set is coming in May 2008…just like the splash page on the official OP website.
-
This is some new info regarding the DVDs, shown to us by our beloved Quexinos:
Mike And yes, both Wyler and Loftra are direct and specific requests from Toei. The uncut versions do not include these terms.
I plan on rewriting and re-recording some of her [Robin's]lines (the ones that seem to be out of character, or that could be phrased in a "less-harsh" manner) for the uncut release, the same way that I plan on rewriting and re-recording the lines where she calls the other straw hats by name… Honestly, on an additional note, I do feel that some people are now overly and acutely aware of this unintentional perception of her attitude and are seeking these things/problems out, making the slightest inflection on the delivery of a word or phrase into something to be scrutinized beyond the norm. I assure you the matter is being remedied. - From Mike

Picked the Movie 8 dvd up at Katsucon this weekend. For animation, it was totally uncut from the JP version. For the voicings.. Vivi sounded like she finally gained a spine, Bon Clay sounded just flaming enough, Mr. 7 and Miss Father's Day sounded like their last name should be Vanderbilt (in classic snooty fashion), Miss Merry Christmas sounds like a huffy old house biddy about to whoop your ass, and Koza sounded like an actual guy this time. I can't say that 8 will be my favorite out of all the movies though, because of it being nothing more than Arabasta condensed. The dvd came with English dubbing, Japanese lang/English sub options, no extras and a few of Funi's release trailers.
Oh yeah, Saul was shown flashed in with little Robin. He was pretty nifty.

@Yuugi's:

We're not talking about a 26 or 52 episode series. We're talking episode counts in the HUNDREDS. That's filler episodes, recap episodes, and endlessly drawn out story arcs (I'm looking at you Ennis Lobby).
If One Piece were to end tomorrow it would still cost a thousand dollars to collect the series on DVD at $35 for 13 episodes.Sorry, but the average individual episode of One Piece is not worth as much as an individual episode of say… Death Note.
Death Note: 37 episodes. Each episode is 1/37th of the anime.
One Piece: 343 episodes. Each episode is 1/343rd of the anime, and that fraction will continue to get smaller. That's not to say that an episode of Death Note is worth 100 times more than an episode of One Piece, but it is a fact that the average episode of Death Note will give more significant content than the average episode of One Piece, which makes each episode more valuable.
$35 for 13 episodes may seem like a steal, but what happens when those thirteen episodes consist of the Post-Alabasta filler, the Goat Island arc, and the Rainbow Myst arc?

…and? Its quite a normal fee to own such a long anime series. This is an expensive, niche hobby.
Anyways, love Mike's statement. Its good to know that he's at least having Robin's naming of the Straw Hats fixed.
-
I'll buy them, of course.
I actually like OP filler.
-
Charagon, you have a good point there, but one thing that makes the OP Season sets Easier to buy, is we'll only get one Every like, 4-5 months (or more, that's just an Estimate) so you'd only be shelling out $35 once in a while. and while it DOES build up, it's a lot easier than if you had to shell out the $1000 or so in one shot (Dragon Boxes, I'm looking at you XD)
-
i will be buying them
I was wondering. How will they get the JP voices onto the DVDs?
-
Well, make no mistake. I am cheap. I don't spend more than $5 for an episode of anime, ever. And that's for the short series. I don't pay more than $20 for a 4 episode DVD. Thankfully, being a Gundam fan, I'm frequently treated to Bandai's 5 episode disks. :)
For longer series, or series that aren't really THAT high on my priority list, I try to keep them in the $2.50 an episode range. I picked up Street Fighter II V and I think it came out to about $1 an episode for the whole series. And… I got my money's worth.
$35 for 13 episodes of One Piece is acceptable. I'll pay a little more than I usually would because it's One Piece (I only pay $25 a set for Naruto) but in no way does it scream "killer deal!" to me.
I was wondering. How will they get the JP voices onto the DVDs?
I…. don't know how to respond to that.
-

…. Lol, wut?
By putting two audio tracks of course. This is a known thing on even regular non-anime DVDs. 0.o;

It's a mystery DVD!

Well, it's up to the hunter to find the best deal but I understand that the Anime market is niche not to mention the amount of money FUNimation needs to make back to actually pay the employees not to mention increase their power supply. Nine years ago FUNimation was highering librarians and puppeteers for God's sake and now they've got actual screen actors!!!
-
So, any word on if we're getting "It's a Mystery –-" lines for the DVDs?
-
May need to send another email. :p
-
So, any word on if we're getting "It's a Mystery –-" lines for the DVDs?
Mike said he'd watch for them.
@Mike:
As far as Luffy's "mystery" lines, I'll now know to double check for them. Unfortunately, the translations don't have notes out to the side that say "this is one of Luffy's trademark comments" or anything like that. So when the adaptation takes place, it's not always 100% clear as to what can be reworded and what cannot. I did my research, and still continue to do so, but I also have to keep production going. I'm learning new One Piece lore all the time…
and since I posted yet again (I'm so bad at this):
here ya go, Charagon, only $30.75!
http://www.hidefdvd.com/i/dvd/FUP9581DVD.htm
that's $2.37 an episode. I think that's a good deal. BTW, I know how you feel, Sonic the Hedgehog the complete series was on amazon for like $24 for 26 episodes plus extras and stuff. But I guess they just can't do that with anime. -
Mandelin's going to probably want to email Mike now.
-
So, any word on if we're getting "It's a Mystery –-" lines for the DVDs?
They said
"It's a mystery Jewel!" in Unlimited Adventure, so I'm assuming they realized the joke.
$35 isn't bad for the DVD's in my opinion. Especially with Movie 8 being a big piece of crap and selling for $30.
-
UA used Mr. Mandelin's script to the tee, if I am not mistaken.
-
@Yuugi's:

Mr. Mandelin's script?
-
Mato, in other words.
-
I just don't understand how they overlook stuff like Robin calling the crew by their job titles or Luffy's mystery line. If they translate the stuff, they should see those, they shouldn't need to know they're character traits.
-
Maybe to piss off fanboys Or more likely becuse they don't effect the plot at all
(And no i dont need emails from fanboys telling me their extremly part of their personalty traits)
