I love the dino's uniform.
Oh and banba actually started to call kurita a huge fatty :)

Some really good stuff in this week's chapter: I do find it poor that Hakushuu's only offense right now is "Marco runs the football while Gaoh and the line crush the other defense" but it gets the job done. Sort of liked Komusubi joining in the Ha Brothers and getting more stuff this chapter…and I'm a tad scared of the cliffhanger with Kisaragi suddenly defending Monta. (particularly if he's the "left arm of Hakushuu..but so far all he's done is stand there, making him as useful as Tengu)
wonder if that weakness Gaos hinting at is that Kurita seems to only plays 100% when hes protecting someone precious to him.
Gaoh admitted that Kurita was stronger than he thought he'd be, but I think he's just disappointed in his attitude where his goal is only to stall Gaoh rather than battle out with him. Still say Hiruma's going to get taken out despite Kurita's ability to stand up to Gaoh somewhat.
Interested to see what Hiromi's up to since power doesn't seem to be his strong point. We may have a turnover on downs in the next chapter.
I agree that Marco's turning out to be kind of disappointing, but I'm hoping we'll see some capabilities. I can't blame him for just running behind Gaoh though since that seems to be working pretty well.

Marco's ability is simple yet effective: let Gaoh destroy the line, then he runs the yards. Its dull but so far it got the team eight points. Though now I'm worried that they have no passing game and that Marco is just a combo QB/RB.
id wouldnt worry bout that, Marco was known to be a good ball handler just that when the easiest and safest route is just to do the Gao bash and run why bother with a riskier pass play.
and you might be right about the attitude Archie but i still say having Hiruma get the Kid treatment and the devil bats being horribly raped before they even get to the Christmas bowl would be to much of a downer note to end the series on

So far Marco's strategy is effective but diversity is still needed. If someone on defense finds their way around Gaoh and the others, they could essentially blitz him either stopping the rush or even causing him to lose yards. Without a passing game alongside rushing, Hakushuu could fall apart once they figure out the strategy to defeat Gaoh.
and im sure they have some other tricks up their sleeve too that theyll turn to when(if) Gao is neutralized, but as they say why play the ace when a two will do, no sense in revealing their big plays when they dont have to.
tho i wished theyd stop showing the Haha bros and the rest into the background, i mean ive had enough of Montas damn receiver duels ffs give the others a chance to shine to:getlost:

Somehow with the recent addition of Komusubi alongside Kurita for the Gaoh faceoff (and with the Ha Brothers on the line), they may do something important to defeat the team. As for Sena/Monta…considering they are the major offensive power of the team, you have to have them pretty much in every game. (though somehow I am imagining Monta getting neutralized by Kisaragi in the next chapter)
i know theyre the superpowers of the team, but id wish they could use Taki or Yukimitsu as receivers just once in the game, or as you said let Komusubi as far fetched at it may seem make a diffrence against gao by playing at his great strength and small stature by going for his legs or something, actualy having Komusubi knock Gao on his ass even once would wow me for ages to come

As much as it would be a clone of the Mizumachi battle, Komusubi crushing Gaoh would be amazing. The little guy can be uber when used right.
Yukimitsu occasionally gets in for a play but really hasn't been that important to the plot since Shinryuuji. As for Taki…he's just nuts and probably would have been more important if Tengu was playing. (thus leading to some sort of "weirdo vs. weirdo" battle)
yeah now that you mention it its been done, but using the lowblow tactic is kinda what he might be able to do(atleast what my poor imagination can imagine) since its downright impossible for him to overpower Gao.
thats really the point, just give them one good play its all i ask, use Yukimitsus option route for good sake.
and thank god he broke Tengus nose, id hate a whacko match up, Taki was at his best when faced with someone uber serious like Akaba.

I guess it's a contrast between Hiruma's unpredictability and Marco's straightforwardness. I'm not knocking it, but I'm hoping that when Haksuho finds itself in a hole, Marco has some trick to pull them out of it.
and you might be right about the attitude Archie but i still say having Hiruma get the Kid treatment and the devil bats being horribly raped before they even get to the Christmas bowl would be to much of a downer note to end the series on
Well, yeah, I'm not suggesting Hiruma gets the smackdown and the Devilbats die. I know we're in disagreement on whether they can surivive if Hiruma is knocked out of the game. Now I'm not suggesting he get the Kid treatment, but he can be incapacitated without permanent injury like a concussion. I just think it's inevitable. Kurita won't be able to hold Gaoh back forever, the last chapter showed that. Eventually he's going to get worn down and Gaoh's going to break through. When that happens, I want to see the Devilbats band together without their leader and find a way to win despite, not curl-up and die.
could be but didnt they get beaten by the scorpions last time they had to do without their hidden ace? and those tards shouldnt pose any problem to no one, if they had someone who could fill his shoes why diddnt anyone step up then it couldve been a build up toward this thing your suggesting.
still we probably aint ever gonna agree on this.
Its not about whether Deimon can come together and defeat Hakushuu…its about if they have the means to. Look at Seibu: Tetsuma and Riku were super-charged after Kid was taken out and they still got crushed. I don't doubt Deimon's talent, I just wonder if they can still find a way without Hiruma.
Okay, I just now caught up to the current chapter! Deimon will win, because they're going to the Christmas Bowl. It's gonna end up being more of a 'how' they got there event; just like all their other matches to date.
some new spoilers are up at mangahelpers, apparently Kisaragi uses some kinda pressure point or something like that bump on Monta who collapses and best of all like god himself heard me Taki actualy gets some action in this chapter
Chapter's up…and somehow Kisaragi creeps me out more than ever. Can't believe he didn't get called for literally interlocking with Monta's arm and throwing the ball out stopping the TD. Now its Sena's turn to attack...oh, and I liked the monkey thinking scene this week :p
In case anyone wants it, Vol. 27 cover:
Its too much like some fashion magazine cover…but its the last real time Ojo has any spotlight or important so its a good sendoff for Shin and his crew.
Funny thing is that by looking closer at the cover Shin is smiling again :P
Seems too macho.

But is not Taki the most flexible of the team? I doubt he could pull off stuff like the ptera claw, but still, Taki seems to have more of a chance against Kisaragi than Yukimitsu and even Monta…

Now that we know of the Ptera Claw, it makes sense to maybe send Taki against him. That was prior to knowing all Kisaragi had on the table.

Well technically its still early in the Hakushuu game. I doubt it will be as massively long as Ojo or the Christmas Bowl, but it still has its importance as the Kanto final and for the recent Hiruma/Kurita developments.
I'm still waiting to see what Marco's skills are. I mean, he's got to have some merit as a player other than his ability to lead and control his teammates.
This week's chapter….wow. Marco is just scary. Both keeping up with Sena and stealing the ball for a TD!? Two straight scoring attempts failing? This definately shows this is going to be a long game.
Wow. I remember saying half a year ago that the dino's probery had some kind of hidden raptor to face sena, but man, to think it would turn out to be marco.
I've been thinking it over and somehow I realized: Hakushuu isn't invincible. In fact, one of their most obvious factors for the team is that they seem like "invincible weaklings": they overacknowledge their own weaknesses so much (Kisaragi's weak body, Marco's cowardice, Gaoh's pride…and of course Tengu) that somehow all Deimon may need to do to win is to exploit them. (if they can figure out how)
huh so thats what Marco does he just eyes the ball and rips it, seems kinda plain but hey who can argue with the results .
just wondering if it to Shin was such a basic thing to do then why didnt he ever try it.
Just wanted to say that, since ep.127, theres a new opening & ending, I only have the episode so I cant upload the song to youtube.
Opening 5:
SHORT LEG SUMMER - Hanno no Runningback
Ending 7:
SHORT LEG SUMMER - Song of Power
Imo, the opening sounds like a typical Gintama song and the ending a modern Ashita no Joe song ;P. ( and at the end of the opening the cover of Eyeshield 21 Artbook, funny thing is that Ishimarus head isnt visible. xD)
It also seems clear to me that the OP & ED have different style of animation during the last 2-3 opening/ending.
And heres a summary of this weeks spoiler:
! -Everyone's quite impressed with Marco's feat.
-Tengu is quite overjoyed his team is the strongest (Kisaragi : even on the besnch, this guy is not beautiful….), but Marco tend to agree with Tengu-chan, since Gaou allow them to score 8pts at each time, Deimon should never catch up. It's Hakushuu's victory, he says.
-Chapter's cover : close up of Hiruma and Marco's eyes
-257th Down : Hiruma vs Marco
-Hiruma decides for the next offense to use the shrimp, the monkey, the baldy and the idiot as receivers, and says this'll increase his possibilities for a Devil Laser Bullet. Marco's inner monologue shows he still senses something weird with that.
-Still, he readies a zone defense to stop all the receivers. Hiruma does the usual, meaning tricking everyone and running with the ball himself.
-But Marco didn't take the bait, and goes to face Hiruma, and ends up stealing the ball from him, but not before Hiruma manages to step out of bounds with it, gaining 6 yards.
-Hiruma explains to Marco that he knows he stands no chance against him in a one-on-one, and thus skipped that, as his eyes are only on the Christmas Bowl.
-Short Marco flashback, where he says to Maruko : "Himuro-senpai, when we go to the Christmas Bowl, please watch the morning sun after the victory with me" (not sure about the translation)
-Hiruma explains to his teammates that they should be alright if they don't let Marco and Kisaragi use their special moves, and to do that they'll progress using only short runs and passes. Sena gains 4 yards, Monta gains 5 yards, the Kyoshin guys comment on how Deimon's offensive cards are infinite, with Yuki and Taki participating too.
-Marco : It's useless, Deimon won't break... As long as Hiruma Youichi is there..."
Kisaragi : Marco-kun...?
Marco : You know, even I would prefer if there wasn't anyone injured during the finals, but... I've already decided. With the next play, this match...
-Sena is gazing at Hakushuu's huddle, and gets a bad feeling about it, like his heart is being crushed.
-SET! HUT! Hiruma looks at a shadow that comes at him. "!? You bastard..."
Catchphrase : "an assassin sent to hunt down Hiruma!! Who is it!!?"
The end.
So does anyone else think it is Marco himself whos going to take Hiruma out ? or it could of course just be some guy weve never seen.
i dont think its Gao cause hes not touching Hiruma til hes beaten Kurita his sense of honor or what you should call it is to strong for him to play dirty, and i dont see Kisaragi ever breaking anybody physicaly so that leaves Marco or random guy right ?
I am immensely enjoying this game so far. At first I was a little disappointed that Seibu wouldn't get their rematch, but this is just awesome.
Marco is now one of my favorite characters, and I hope we get a flashback to flesh out his characterization.
It could be a super short guy that we didn't notice before because he was..
Short?
Yeah, despite the randomness, having a rival at the level of Kumosobi (SP?) would be interesting just for the heck of a clash of small powers….
I finally saw the new opening/closing…I like it for some reason except I'm starting to fear the anime may just go to the Ojo game and that's it. Again Hakushuu doesn't appear in the opening (no Marco, no Gaoh...and they've shown up by now in the anime), they seem to be speeding right into the manga stuff with little filler and a lot of the opening/closing seems to be sufficient with "well Ojo's the main rival so once this game is over then we can just end it". Hope not though with recent stuff...
This week's chapter...mostly its Hiruma/Marco mind games, which means it probably needs translation to understand better. Not as great as the last couple weeks though. (outside Hiruma's "intentional out of bounds")

Well, i've been thinking, strange it may seem, it could be Kisaragi blitzing Hiruma (he may not be as strong as to push someone but hes kinda slim to actually pass them, like Taki), even though Ptera Claw is a defensive technique (?) it could be used to cling Hirumas arm to decrease a bit of his accuracy (remember Nasa match), even though Kisaragi doesn't succeed at least it may be more obvious for Marco to know where the ball will land and either snap it from the player or intercept it.
Another thought, does anyone think that Marco will use Tengu as a suicide player? :P
Well that could work with Kisaragis abilities, But i kinda got the feeling that he was going to take out Hiruma for the rest of the game.
as for the short guy thing, doesnt even have to be a short guy just let Komusubi take him out and its all good.
EDIT the new chapters up, we get a shadowy glimpse of whos coming for him and it looks like its Gaoh or someone equaly large.
Its probably Gaoh: as great as Hakushuu's defense is, he's the only one that the authors seem to be emphasizing.
BTW: for some reason I wish we knew more about the other members of the SIC Four Heavenly Kings, but I think that will be in the "character omake" in the volume this game is in. (hey, the more teams we know about, the better)
Kinda random, but whatever happened to the english dub? It was supposed to be on jetstream wasn't it?
edit : and boy… is OP5 weird. Why'd they get rid of good old Back-On
I think possibly the whole thing with Hiruma carrying loaded, realistic firearms around school might cause some problems.
@Komrade:
I think possibly the whole thing with Hiruma carrying loaded, realistic firearms around school might cause some problems.
Nah, if its really problematic they'll just make them look like toys or some shit.
:(
The studio behind the original probably made the ammo into rubber bullets or whatever already
Chapter 258 Spoiler:
! Complete spoiler translation :
! Someone 「Wooh, Who is it? Someone is blitzing Hiruma…」「Kisaragi!!?」
「If Kisaragi is blitzing Hiruma, there's no one left to stop Monta…!」
Flashback of Kisaragi
Kisaragi 「Marco-kun... My power, it's absolutely no match for Gaou-kun's rush~」
Marco 「But, you know, Kisaragi, you can entwine Hiruma's arm, right?」
Flashback end
Kisaragi 「Damage to the arm. Making the opponent fear it and be careful. It's damage to the heart!!」
Marco 「The arm is the quarterback's life, I'd say.」
Sena 「Sink or swim, they want to crush Hiruma-san in one go...!」
Kisaragi 「Ptera Claw!!」
Sena 「It's useless! Even if I go to help now I won't have time…」
! Hiruma looks at Sena while laughing, and falls back a bit
Hiruma 「Kekeke, you understand, right? Fucking shrimp……!!」
Understanding his aim, Sena changes his course and start running in front
Kisaragi 「!!」「This…! After pulling me in sufficiently, he will toss the ball to Sena-kun above my head」
Unsui 「He understood that only through eye contact! What a team…!」
Kisaragi 「It's useless, I'm completely defeated. On the battlefield, our worths are completely different…!!」
Marco 「To your left, Kisaragi」
! Hiruma, Sena and Shin looks in that direction. Kisaragi starts to run towards Kurita.
Takami 「No matter how many times Gaou is pushing him, Kurita always comes back. If he can interrupt him…」
Kurita 「Fun… nuraba!!」
Announcer 「Ooooh, Kurita-kun! He sent Kisaragi-kun flying!」
Marco 「tch was it impossible after all…」
! Hiruma is surprised when he looks in the direction of the flying Kisaragi
Kisaragi 「Hiruma-kun. You are not the only ones who can communicate through eye contact」
「You are all led forward by a dream. We are led forward by a belief. "Strength is absolute"」
Hiruma「……It can't be.... you bastards…」
Kisaragi 「You saw it, right? My worth and Hiruma-kun's worth are different. If both of us were to go down at the same time, it'd be to Hakushuu's benefit.」
「You understand, right?」「Gaou-kun...」
At the same time, Gaou grabs both arms of Hiruma, with Kisaragi caught in the middle, and sends everyone flying.
Switching to x-ray vision, you can see fissures appearing on the arm. Sena and the other are shocked.
! Hiruma is looking upward while falling down
Hiruma「…Where is this.. What happened…?」
「That's right, I was hit, wasn't I... But more importantly」「Where was I hit?」
「I can't feel a thing yet. If it's the left arm, then I'll be able to continue. As long as the right arm isn't broken, it's not over yet.」「As long as the right…」
「Kekeke, there's no problem, guys」
「Why aren't you listening to me, fucking brats …No, that's wrong. My voice isn't coming out, shit.」
「……」「Here it comes. It's increasing. The pain is...」
「It's the right. Yeah, it's the right. It was the right. My right arm is dead...」
Flashback with all the team (We'll definitely go! To the Christmas Bowl!!)
Hiruma rolls on the field, and stares at the ball...
! 258th down「The light of a dream」(Spread pages completely black)
! Sena is shocked. In front of Hiruma, who's lying on the ground, looking upward, Gaou stands up and roars.
Monta, Musashi, Kurita, everyone is dumbfounded. Kisaragi falls down, with a satisfied look on his face.
Suzuna「No……」
Himuro covers her mouth with her hands.
Mamori「Hiruma... kun...」
Kurita「Aaaaaaaaaah!!!」 The end. See you next week.

Opening 5:
Ending 7:
Wow…I really should have expected this but not like this. Both Kisaragi and Gaoh working together and literally throwing Hiruma out of the game. (most likely) The leads to the big question for the rest of the game: who's going to be Deimon's QB? I still have faith in them possibly pulling the upset, but I do want to know who will take over ball duties without Hiruma playing.
Ending 7:
I only liked the last 15 seconds. Is it weird? Come on, a song called "Song of power" should be a bit more lively…

YUKIMITSU
It seems like Musashi might be a decent candidate.
@Mr.:
YUKIMITSU
It seems like Musashi might be a decent candidate.
Are you allowed to kick the ball to player when you are a QB?
Knew this was going to happen though I thought it would be later. It's time for whoever is going to take team captain position to step up and collect Deimon before it falls to shambles, and I'm interested to see who it will be.
As for the new quarterback, they'll probably snap the ball directly to Sena since running is their only option now. Unless Hiruma's been training one of the other characters on how to throw passes the long distance game is shot.
The game's still winnable as Gaoh is still the only big threat there is. Marco and Kitsuragi's skills are long range/long distance only so if the game is kept to short plays they're rendered ineffective. Gaoh is the problem, and it'll be interesting to see how they get around him. As much as people want to see Kurita go berserker, I don't think he has the strength or endurance to keep up Gaoh.
Gaoh is pretty active for a center having to plow through entire lines and run the length of the field so endurance shouldn't be a problem for him. Plus he's already proven to be stronger than Kurita so even berserk Kurita (a state that Gaoh is in constantly) shouldn't be able to handle him. It'll take some kind of trickery to counter him.
well ill be damned Archie was right, and what a fucking disapointment it was Gaoh goes from breaking the bones of people who even ridicoule his one on one opponents to readily accepting 3rd party help in his fights, seems kinda outta character to me but meh whatever.
and even thought they dont have to worry bout Kisargi since hes out to i dont see a single player on their team that can play and think on the same level as Hiruma(Yuki is a clever boy but hes a poor athlete), and even tho its obvious theyre gonna win cause theyre the Heros of the storyall i can think with the players they have left is that theyre totaly fucked on every possible level.
It must be the Sumo Guy. It would be awesome if Hiruma had train him to become the next captain this whole time.
I been thinking for a while that Hiruma woul surprize them by proving to be amibedextorus, but after seeing the chapter I lost hope for that.
My one though is the stealth runningback (Can anyone remember his name?) his american double was a QB and I belive in the anime he once took over when Hiruma was late.
