I have a dreamcast that I bought at a flea market and it's having some problems. About 15 minutes after I start playing, it goes to the menu screen (of the dreamcast) and says "Checking disc…". I don't know what's causing it, because I have a brand new dreamcast game and it still does it.

don't post in these topics if you aren't going to offer any help at all.
As for the Dreamcast, I'm guessing the laser is failing. There isn't much you can do about it unfortunately.

I wasn't aware the Dreamcast could be brand new anymore.
They still make games for that?

Hey now, don't be like that. Anyone's free to post in these threads. And unless a rule is passed where you can only reply in help threads if you're offering help then it's gonna stay that way…

to OP: Do you know if the previous owner has modified it in any way? Any way you could find the previous owner and ask him about this problem?
to anyone: Is there anywhere one can go to get old consoles repaired?
What can you do if you figure out the problem but can't fix it yourself? -

The funny thing is, this post isn't very helpful either.

I guess but I just know what it's like to post something needing help and I get a reply thinking "Oh good someone helped…" but.. nope... not at all. I personally hate that but... I guess it's not a big deal.
As for new DC games, no they don't make them anymore, but I'm guessing it was a factory sealed game.

Actually it is. I'm 98% sure that's what the problem is, and as unfortunate as it is, nothing can be done except buying a new DC. That's just the way things are with those wonderful SEGA products.

Hard as it is to believe, games are still being made for it. But they are largely home made games by "hackers", but a few official games have been released in the last few years. The console is quite big in Japan, Sega even started selling the Dreamcast again in their online store in early 2006 there.

really? New games? I had no idea… I mean I knew about the hacker games but not official ones... that's messed up

I could have sworn they didn't make games for the Dreamcast anymore.
-
They don't in America.
I think they still produce them in Japan.
-
I doubt it, I mean come on, new games for the Dreamcast?
I didn't even know they made games for that anymore. -

Yeah yeah, it's wiki. So what? I'm a little sick of people saying it's not a reliable site, cause it is.

When you have people who are freely able to edit the entries on Wikipedia making up things or trashing people in the process of course you're going to lose some credibility.

Well, maybe we should ask someone who lives in Japan, like Greg…
Anyways....
