Luffy's also the main character so he's a little more than just the funny guy.
Not saying that Usopp isn't more than just the funny guy, but overall Usopp has always been designated the role of comic relief in the series.

In this trailer for the American version of the UA game, Robin refers to Nami as Miss Navigator. So you all can stop complaining about it now.

Umm… we've seen that.
Anyways, she refers to Nami as that in the actual dub as well. It's just the others that she wrongly calls by name. But Mike said he noticed and will fix it so it's all good.
I guess the Simpsons said it best.
Lisa: What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell/sound as sweet.
Bart: Not if you called it stench blossom.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I see what you mean; calling the Marines the Navy is THE EXACT FUCKING OPPOSITE THING LIEK OMFGORZ!!!!!
So… in two days we get to here basically 70% of all the Sky Piea voices.
Do we know any of their voice actors yet?
You know, from the "To destroy you!" line Wiper's voice reminded me of Kouga's from Inuyasha. But that voice is done by Scott McNeil, so that ain't right.
Then again, he may not sound anything like that in his one line but the week has deteriorated it in my mind.
@Yuugi's:
Life would be so much easier if Clyde could phone call Oda. ^_^
I've been wanting to send in an SBS or something for a while actually, but never got around to it. There's just too much to say/ask, and it'd probably get a wacky response anyway
Looks like I'm gonna have to choke some bitches. :getlost:
Mato, if you happen to read this, would it be possible to make a note to them that the word that's said and written translates to "Navy" and not "Marines?" :sad:
What I generally do is translate kaigun as Navy and kaihei as marines. It's possible the dub simply said marines when "kaihei" was being used, leading to a misunderstanding. We've been really consistent with translating things that way, so I'm pretty sure the writers have taken note too. I can't remember if we wrote specific notes about it, but we might have early on.

Buh-but you're…important! He's gotta give a straight answer!!!
@Lobster:
IQ ORB TEST!!!
Silly Rabbits D=
(sorry for all these weird posts, I've been going backwards through this thread to get caught up. I like backwards for some reason today)
Yeah, that's definitely not the title we have for the subs at least. FWIW, last week's ep was the first to be translated (my batch started at 158 though), so name fixes were still a ways down the road. I thought Toei themselves didn't want IQ Orb Test anymore, but I guess someone somewhere wanted it kept anyways :blink: It's strange how some things are being kept but others aren't. It might be related to the order things were worked on too, so there's (maybe) a chance episodes much further down won't have as many of these weird name changes.
Never understood where IQ came from though.
Cause it's a test, and 4kids thought they were clever (like always) and figured all tests require IQ, even those which sole purpose are to try and kill you and you're suppose to be running around like shit and not staying put thinking.
wasn't there some kind of pun with the IQ test? And I STILL don't get why IQ test even has to be used considering it was never used before Skypia.
Probably because of CN's bullshit consistency plan.

That's the thing, though. It was never used on TV.
It's probably Toei.
RomanGod, I will never forgive you for using that Brawl picture as your avatar before I could.
NEVER.

It probably doesn't matter to CN if it was on TV or not. They just probably said "4kids did this in pirates carnival we want you to be consistant."

I dunno. I doubt CN pays attention to the games.
It's most likely Toei. They're the ones that handed out that big bad list after all, and they'd probably be more knowledgeable about the games than CN would.
IQ tests were in the games? I didn't even know that. What about the Blackbeard Pirates names? They weren't in the game. I'd like someone to explain that.
or were they? Maybe I should find that out first

Yeah, they were in Pirates Carnival, I thought…
I know "IQ Tests" were mentioned in Grand Adventure.
I think just Blackbeard was but… did they have his full name?
see I'd know this if someone had made Action Replay codes for the Gamecube version.
no one has yet to tell me what Bellamy's game in Pirate's Carnival is like
@Ao:
Which means nothing pretty much. They basically went "this is okay,right?" to Oda-sensei or one of his people as a formality. ODa-sensei isn't going to veto or recommend other voice actors because he doesn't speak english and it IS just a formality. He has mentioned "approving" of the Japanese voice cast but at the same time completely disagreeing with casting choices. for one thing, he wanted Chopper to sound older and less cutesy/childish but Toei chose who THEY wanted and went with the voice tone they felt would work better with the character. And this is the Japanese production which Oda-sensei has TONS more influence and interraction with than the Funi production.
Even if Oda-sensei heard Colleen and hated the voice he isnt going to tell Funi "cast someone else or I'm taking my show away!" Besides I;m sure the comic, which he does control, is more important to him than the anime anyway.
I don't know about you, but I would rather have FUNimation get personal approval or blessing from Oda to use the english VAs than FUNimation using their VAs believing what is in their best interests. You're forgetting that a lot of people felt screwed over by the 4Kids dub and FUNimation is doing everything in their power to put those demons to rest. Besides, why do you think this is formality? Have you witnessed these kinds of approvals first hand?
@Tsukento:
There's really nothing wrong with changing the text to say Navy. 4Kids' problem lies within the fact of how TERRIBLE the edit looked. The Navy emblem looked like they peeled a sticker off of a soup can label. o_O
You're talking about the television version, I hope…
Err…why did you find the need to discuss in an episode topic from December?
Because I only just started reading these talkback threads for the first time in three months.
