I'll begin my side with the trump card from Soul Calibur.

I'll begin my side with the trump card from Soul Calibur.
!
Never did buy Saturn, I mainly just played the game at Toys R' Us, and in the little game rooms that Fuddrucker's had back in the day. Virtua Fighter 4 was when I REALLY got into it.
As far as Tekken goes:
"The only good thing about Tekken is the name, its short." – Tomonobu Itagaki
Jeeze, forgot how much the women in Soul Calibur suck. You can't even begin to touch Voldo, though. What a gigantic pimp.
And yeah, Tekken would be fun if some Korean fucker using Tae-Kwon-Do […] didn't do a 85%+ combo off of a weak Punch. In other words: Tekken isn't fun. Ever.
Virtua Fighter has the (much) deeper fighting system, Tekken's got a lot more personality, and manages to stay fun even if it isn't that deep.
Oh, but I can actually say that I hate Dead or Alive. I could never get myself to enjoy how it played or the game itself.
They may as well name Akira "NOT RYU"
I like Tekken, but it's mainly due to the cast. I never thought the fighting system was phenomenal; I just really like the characters.
For the most part, Virtua Fighter's characters are just too goddamn boring. I mean, "archetypal" is pretty much the only way to describe a lot of them. No matter how good the fighting system is, I can't bring myself to like a fighter if I don't like any of the characters.
@Cyringohn:
Akira doesn't have enough of a personality to be a "fag."
Would like him even more if he was homosexual, though. Gay Hakkyoku-Ken Martial Arts Instructor? Mmmmmmmmmm.
The truth of Gohn has been revealed. posts chessy ninja smiley
And I actually owned a Saturn too. It's the place where I developed my concentrated dislike of Virtua Fighter. It's sad when Ryu from SF has more personality than that entire cast. I feel the same as Carter does about the series entirely. I need a nice cast to get into a fighter (and non-boring gameplay too)
Oh and thought of another game, GEARS OF FUCKIN WAR. A game that gained it's fame of "stop and pop" which it clames to have created even tho Kill.switch did it way before. Not to mention that the online is awful and you'll only play through the single player once and be bored. Graphics is the real reason people love it contrary to what they say.

Not even El Blaze? :(
Tekken's cast is pretty shitty, in and of itself.
Let's see, we've got Wrestler Guy With Lion Mask, Generic Native American Girl, Two Slutty Anglo Sisters, Generic Protagonist with EVIL DEVIL GENE [… x Infinity], Evil Vegeta-esque Rival, An Actual Angel, An Actual Devil, Blade Ripoff, etc.
Never said Virtua Fighter had interesting characters [because it doesn't, save for a few like El Blaze and A GUY THAT FINALLY USES HAKKYOKU-KEN], but Tekken's cast is just as bad. Kuma, Yoshimitsu, and Bob are the best things about Tekken.
Eh, from what I've seen El Blaze is just a basic luchadore. He doesn't seem to stand out.
If it's any consolation, I don't care for Tekken's King either.
Tekken has Kuma, Heihachi, Bryan Fury, Mokujin, Baek Doo San, Yoshimitsu (though he plays like shit), and Roger (fuck you haters) off the top of my head.
Not even El Blaze? :(
He's a Mexican wrestler, and.. nothing else. I love Virtua Fighter, but I'll admit all of the characters are bland as hell.
El Blaze is so great.
Anybody that yells "HOT DOG!" as he busts your face open is a victor.

It had an amazing commercial.
Tekken's cast isn't just as bad, cuz VF has 0 interesting characters. And El Blaze is ass, only his shitty english voice can manage to give him some sort of slight personality. And u forgot to add Gon, Heihachi, Bryan and Paul to that list Gohn.
@Cyringohn:
El Blaze is so great.

Is that what he actually says? I always assumed he was saying something I could never understand because I couldn't get myself to believe it was "HOT DOG". Learn something new every day I guess.
I liked Shun and the chef (I can't remember his name at all), but that;s mainly because they're archetypes I tend to like.
I kind of like Jeffrey though, since his grand ambition is to buy a goddamn boat.
Oh yeah, Marshall Law was awesome in Tekken, too.
Is that what he actually says? I always assumed he was saying something I could never understand because I couldn't get myself to believe it was "HOT DOG". Learn something new every day I guess.
Yeah, he goes "HOT DOG!" and "YESSSSSSSSS!" Virtua Fighter's English lines are all recorded in the original Japanese version.
Would like Heihachi if they'd stop reviving him 907902375023 times. Either kill him or don't kill him, damnit.
Jeff's that big guy with the dreads right? If so, then yeah, that's one half-decent VF character.
I liked Shun and the chef (I can't remember his name at all), but that;s mainly because they're archetypes I tend to like.
The chef? That's Lau.
Anyways, Putting characters aside, I'd also like to say that Virtua Fighter probably had the best "Training Mode" of any other fighter that I've played.
That training mdoe, yes! If there's anything I really missed when starting to get into Tekken 5 was the fact there was no move-by-move training mode. VF spoiled me on that.
-Goldeneye
-Halo
-Final Fantasy VII (though I kind of want to give the 3d iterations of FF another try)
-Grand Theft Auto
-Any 3D Rare Platformer
Virtua Fighter also has that amazing shit where you can customize how your character looks.
And there's so many different fucking items too. Like, when you watch tournament clips, nobody ever looks the same. A Goh player once had him in, like, this astronaut cyber helmet, then put him in some frilly poofy outfit. Looked funny as shit.
You can customize in Tekken 5 too, though not as extensively
I loved my custom Heihachi. He had a construction helmet, an eyepatch, and a giant fan on his back.
I will admit, VF's custom outfit feature is indeed fuckin awesome and Tekken did rip it off (but it didn't come close to VF). You could actually make a VF character look unique and interesting which was shocking. Costume customization should be a mandatory feature in all future fighters if you ask me.
Heh, I'll catch u guys later, I'm supposed to be asleep for work right now. Guess This thread got too interesting, but anyways, I'm off
Oh, really? Props to Namco for that, then. Didn't realize.
Even if it isn't as good as VF5, apparently.
So wait, are me and Gohn the only Virtua Fighter fans here?
Nope.
Hey what's the deal with using 'spamming' lately? Has anyone noticed that hilariously the term has been 'spammed' as much as the 'spamming' term itself? It's pretty 'spamming' annoying.
The VF series is the most technical and fun of the 3d fighters out there. I dig it a lot. That being said…
I could not get into any of the 3d Zelda games.
Wild Arms series could never get me going.
Dead or Alive games...yeah. Really. What the hell is going on in that franchise.
Battletoads.
Holy hell, GARLIC Spam!? I gotta gets me some of that shit!
Anyways with all the awesome Virtua Fighter talk, methinks a new thread oughta be made…
Hahaha.
It's just shit we say in fighting game communities. Am usually very avoidant of gaming slang terms, but "spam" is a lot easier than saying " Bob uses <insert move="">all the time, and that's all he does…"
Can't stand when people sit there and go "SCRUB" and "LEARN 2 PLAY" and "PWNED" and "N00B" and etc.</insert>
Oh, I TRIED to get into the first Wild Arms a few years back since I thought it looked awesome, but I just couldn't really get into it either
Wild Arms's system is so generic and boring.
Which is a shame, because some of the characters are really funny and neat. Have also always been a fan of Western shit.
Am listening to the opening song to Wild Arms 2 right now, actually.
Yeah, the Garlic Spam made me do a little spamming dance in my pants.
Holy hell, GARLIC Spam!? I gotta gets me some of that shit!

Trust me when i say this, it's the equivilant of shit. It tastes terrible, and I live in Hawaii, where 30% of our diet consists of spam
Yeah, we could use a Virtua Fighter thread.
Mortal kombat. even though its not as popular now;when I was young, everybody was on the bandwagon
Great characters.Horrible fighting system.
Man, fuck Mortal Kombat. It's one of those things that people loved when they were kids because they didn't know any better, so they think it's still good when they're older.
And sorry, but most of the characters were pretty terrible.
@Cap'n:
that people loved when they were kids because they didn't know any better
Unfortunately, that's the motivation for liking a lot of bad shit.
But yeah, Mortal Kombat was the HIP COOL RADICAL STREET FIGHTER THAT HAD BLOOD AND GUTS.
It's funny how the stop motion technology just ended up making the game look even shittier
Sub-Zero is still boss though.
Oh, and Shaolin Monks is in fact a fuck-ton of fun.
I do admit I liked some designs(goro, kung lao,and baraka)but then the game hit zero once the gamplay started
and I think it originated cloned characters
I remember I used to find Motaro awesome when I was 12.
I was such a little cunt.
A lot of games being brought up here I think are overrated, but I didn't actively hate. And some of them (i.e. Wild Arms) are far from universally beloved.
Used to walk around and scream "GET OVER HERE!" all the time. Would laugh and laugh and laugh, thinking it was the best shit possible. Mostly played with, uhhhh, Noob Saibot and Cyrax.
@Cyringohn:
Used to walk around and scream "GET OVER HERE!" all the time. Would laugh and laugh and laugh, thinking it was the _best shit possible.
Ahhh, the 90s, good times._
I remember my uncle fucking biting my head off as reptile when I was 6.
Never did learn how to do fatalities in the 2d one.
but then again, never played Mortal Kombat again.
I played the 3d a few years back with a friend…...but never again.
Decided to mash it up in tekken instead.
-Grand Theft Auto
-Every Sonic game AFTER Sonic Adventure 2
-Every Spyro the Dragon game AFTER Spyro 3.
That's pretty much all I can think of at the moment. I don't hate a lot of games.
Super Mario 64, Grand Theft Auto, Halo, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Jak 2 and onward, Mortal Combat, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Metroid series and The Legend of Zelda Series.
Super Mario 64, Metroid series and The Legend of Zelda Series.
none of the characters ride on snowboards what the fuck
Mortal Kombat USED to be cool. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is, in my eyes, the last MK game in the series. Anything above that is garbage and no longer represents what MK was. Hell, I don't even know who 85% of the characters in the recent games are.
As for my game? Final Fantasy VII
Morrowind, like GTA, is only fun if you cheat and make yourself invincible and have godly weapons. That way you can go around, terrorizing small villiages without anything bad happening… Now, for the games I hate:
Kingom Hearts series
Street Fighter series
Tekken series
Super Metroid - Everyone seems to love it, but it just seems like another Metroid game to me. I don't hate it, but I don't like it much either.
Sonic series
I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now.
Okay, I'll admit that Morrowind was pretty great when you put in that cheat that made your speed so fast that you could go from one end of town to the other just by tapping the control stick. But yeah, the only fun part of it was glitching the holy hell out of it.
