That scene was disturbing on it's own, it would never make the cut even for a TV-PG version.
Zoro holding the sword out was cut because it was directly against Bellamy's neck. Although I think that would have made the cut for a TV-PG episode, this episode contained quite a few strange edits. The biggest chunk of removed content was when Nami was forcing Luffy to promise not to get into a fight on the island. That scene contained no violence, and nothing that I would consider necessary for removal. I think CN edited the episode they were already given to make it shorter. They even took out the next episode preview.
But for some of these edits that showed up, it sounded like the German TV dub of the conclusion to the Luffy vs. Crocodile fight. If FUNimation were behind the edits, I think they'd at least make the music flow, instead of a hard cut.

I had heard of this, but I didn't get to see it until last night.
I might say, from the second I saw the themesong, I got excited. I hadn't read/watched OP in at least 6 months and I heartedly enjoyed that.Luffy's voice was pretty similar to the 4kids one, but with better acting. A plus.
Zoro's took a little getting used to, as I liked the 4kids one, but it worked, it did make him sound "Lazy" which is what he is. It worked.
Chopper sounded fine, no problems.
Usopp was way better, same kind of ballpark but not so annoying and much better acting.
I liked Nami's a lot more than the 4Kids version for some reason.The best voice was Sanji however. It sucked that he only had 3 lines…I wanted to hear more. Anything to wash that Moo voice off, but yeah very good, could act, good tone, I liked it a lot.
I didn't get to hear Robin. She didn't talk. Watching that made me want to continue with the manga again, though I should probably restart...I forgot everything. I hope they just redub the beginning...they did with DBZ...

I really like this dub. My friend hated One Piece, and after seeing last night's episode he got interested again. Blackbeard's voice is pretty good too.

Bellamy's voice is maybe the most fitting of all the casting so far. Justin Cook..is just..he's just..wow. If only he could somehow play every male character in the series! All the BlackBeard pirates sounded great as did everyone of the minor roles this time around. Also I want to point out Sabat now DOES seem to be using his normal speaking tone throughout 95% of the ep. I'm starting to really enjoy him as Zoro. Colleen's Luffy is surprising me by how much it's disapointing me. Occasionally it fits and sounds near perfect, but other times it actually sounds kinda whiney and annoying, but overall, it sounds unnatural and stiff. Like maybe it's hard for her to act convincingly while trying to maintain the voice, and lighten it up enough to fit Luffy but also still sound male. Not to mention hit the lip flaps. When Luffy said he wanted to take the free money, it sounded cute and perfect,but some scenes with Blackbeard the voice sorta kills the jokes for me, when Luffy SHOULD be the funniest character. And the ending scene when he's serious just sounded sorta cheesy imho.
Sanji sounds different again,but consistant throughout. Usopp is regressing to Krillen abit here and Chopper's voice just sounds way to much like Snuggles or some cutesy cartoon pet when he should sound more like a cutesy young boy. OVerall,they do all seem to be getting alot better, and settling into the roles more and more with each episode. Except Luffy. Maybe it's because he's had the fewest lines of dialogue so far?

Yes, it could be worse. However, that doesn't change the fact that they are still cutting parts out of it. Is that fine with you? Do you want an incomplete anime, as long as it's slightly less incomplete than 4Kid's version?
Dude, just by the fucking dvds if you don't like it. You're lucky you're getting free goddamn One Piece that's not the butchered 4kids version at all. It could've been taken off the air completely and you could've HAD to buy the boxsets just to watch the english version.
Also, comeon, the punch was barely covered by the flash. And the only reason the flash was there is because it was a REALISTIC punch. Realistic violence gets edited out, not fantastic violence. Meaning, when Luffy hits a guy with Pistol there won't be a flash covering the punch connecting. If Zoro is holding his sword to a guy's arm about to cleave it off, they'll try to cover it up,but if he's slicing through crowds of guys, there won't be ANY editing except for blood.
Also, it's a children's comic from Japan.

Are people unfamiliar with the term "Dvd's" or "Unedited"? Because it seriously isn't sinking in for alot of people..
Funi already said they're calling him "God" on the dvds which honestly had a chance of getting changed to something else even in the unedited version to avoid upsetting religious zealots. -

I decided to start doing the comparisons that Tsukento put on his YouTube. He may of cut scenes out himself. I'll re-compare when the rip is done downloading.
From what I saw, the episode was more about cuts, than edits. From what I saw, there was no edits in this episode at all. I don't even think Sanji was smoking in this episode.
About 3 second or so edit: When Roshio pulls out his gun, the whole part is cut out. You don't even see his gun, or hear the gunshots. In the dub, he just falls out of the window.
6 second cut: The men in the bar talking about Big Knife Saquiss was cut out completely, likely due to his 'Big Knife' having blood on it.
(Thanks Lobster Pot-Sticker!)Likely less than a second cut out, It seems putting swords to peoples throats are forbidden in the this version of One Piece too.
I doubt this guy was in this part, since the youtube version I'm watching went past it. But one of the people shown after Nami asks about Sky Island is a man smoking a cigar. I don't remember seeing him when I watched it so I'm sure it was cut.
Bellamy punching Luffy in the face was a flash, as expected.
Commercial bumpers and the episode preview were both absent in this episode. Due to time restraints most likely.

dang, you guys go into detail about every single thing in both japanese and english episodes. the only difference i saw was that no blood appeared AT ALL, even though luffy got punched and his head was slammed into the wood.

Actually, I did say there was no blood in the episode but since the scene with Saquiss was cut, now there isn't.

Erm even in the original, when Luffy was punched there was no blood. Only the bruises that weren't edited out. Anyway no offense to Sanjix5 but I really don't think it's important to post those pics. The edits did not detract from the episode in the slightest imo. It was just as good as the original.

Three episodes in and still not big on Luffy. I hate how everything he says sounds like he's whispering. Serious voice was pretty much exactly as bad as I envisioned it.
I actually agree and I was pro-Colleen the second I heard her Beet voice. I really have to listen carefully to Luffy in the dub sometimes just to hear what the hell he's saying. That's not a good sign. My only hope is that she gets better very soon. If if the voice sucked, if the delivery and acting was compeletly convincing it'd make up for it. But so far both the acting and voice seem off. Even tho CHopper's voice is so girly and high up sometimes it comes across as annoying, the acting is still pretty good. Luffy so far has been a mixed bag.Some lines feel genuine while others feel completely forced.

^_^ I'm more of a chicken nugget person anyways… but seriously, good episode. I didn't even understand what edits people where complaining about untill I went and rewatched the japanese version. Overall the edits didn't ruin the feel of the episode and we get those little parts back on the dvds so it doesn't make a big difference. Be happy you have something to eat at all before u complain about your burger not being exactly how you want it.

I can understand 'crap' and 'friggin', but I'm so surprised 'scumbag' got past the CN censors. That's a first for Toonami.
I'm happy Cartoon Network has next week's episode rated as PG since it's probably the most violent One Piece episodes out there in terms of content. Hopefully, the editing won't be too servere due to the rating.

Well, if you check a few posts back I did the last two episodes as well. I didn't do it to bash Funi's version of One Piece I just waited to do it. And yeah, 144 & 145 had next to no edits/cuts. This episode had the most yet.

You guys may not beleive me, but I am sure I saw those small scenes that were cut out at the premeir. They were probably cut out due to time restraints, the same may be true for the eyecatchters, and preview.
Well, Mcfarland said that the next episode will be the most edited yet, for the sheer amount of blood. (In reference to Luffy and Zoro getting beat up) But he said some blood can still be left in, that in itself is probably the reason the next episode will have a TV-PG rating in the first place. I can't wait to see it though, I knew that the scene would have a bit of editing. No scenes should actually be cut out, there just might be some flashes every now and then.

Much agreed. The violence isn't the "meat" of this show - the meat is the characters, storylines, development, follow-your-dreams insane feel of the whole thing. If violence is the only thing that satisfies you, there are shows that could satiate your carnivorous cravings a lot better.
Also, to all you CN haters out there, I'm pretty sure it's not a personal vendetta against One Piece.. in fact the notion is pretty ridiculous. OP gets what OP gets because of tv restrictions and viewer expectations. We've got a lot of history to work off as the show slowly shifts ratings. My guess is it'll be straight up PG "Naruto-esque" treatment by the time we hit the final major fights in Skypiea, at the absolute latest.
