^ I really hope you're right. I really am hoping that One Piece becomes at least as popular as Naruto, if not even more popular.

Condiments give the whole setup flavor, and it isn't really the same without them.
Then go dunk your head in mayonaise. Then you'll be ready for the actual storyline, since it just needs that kind of stuff.

Who ever said it needs it? It's a condiment, a spice used to give something an extra hint of flavor. Nothing like that is ever necessary, but it helps the overall dish.
-
I don't think I want it to become more popular than Naruto–but the only selfish reason I have for that is... I'm sick, SO SICK of Naruto fandom. :/

Yeah, well, you've been PMSing about this, ever since the episode came out. I'm sure you can understand me thinking that.
-

Actually, that's the same reason I have for wanting One Piece to be more popular. Those Naruto fanboys need to be taught a lesson in awesomeness.
-
first of all, i didn't mean it like that. i don't want it all to be bloody and gory, but when you see the japanese version, u expect the english to be the same.
and second, quit hatin on my metaphors. if u don't like them, go somewhere else, cause i aint goin nowhere. So when you want the show, you only want to see blood and violence? You're a very sick person.
Anyway, that analogy is terrible. It's more like what 4Kids was giving us. This one would be more like taking out the mustard and giving it to us. They're just condiments and don't matter all that much.
-
The metephor wasn't complicated or anything, it was just plain wrong. You're acting like taking out a scene of Bellamy shooting someone (which we never even SEE) and another with a sword to his neck destroy the whole thing.
And also, your grammar makes a thousand English teachers commit suicide. I can just barely understand you.
-

And it is… on the DVD... which is the ONLY THING THAT MATTERS!

To you, yes, the only thing that matter is the DVD. However, many people won't buy the DVD and will only watch the televised version.

i really dont give a damn if my grammar is bad. and dont even say the word teacher. its bad enough we have to go back to school.

Anyone notice at times Nami sounds like Rukia.
-
Hey, it's not as bad as Pokemaster's
-
Hey, it's not as bad as Pokemaster's
If you have to make it better by saying something like that, there's obviously something wrong.
-
Pokemaster couldn't help his bad grammar. English wasn't his first language.

English wasn't his first language.
That fact doesn't inhibit someone from having good grammar.

You guys may not beleive me, but I am sure I saw those small scenes that were cut out at the premeir. They were probably cut out due to time restraints, the same may be true for the eyecatchters, and preview.
Well, Mcfarland said that the next episode will be the most edited yet, for the sheer amount of blood. (In reference to Luffy and Zoro getting beat up) But he said some blood can still be left in, that in itself is probably the reason the next episode will have a TV-PG rating in the first place. I can't wait to see it though, I knew that the scene would have a bit of editing. No scenes should actually be cut out, there just might be some flashes every now and then.
There were at least two inexplicably cut scenes from the most recent episode. Mainly the scene where Nami is making Luffy promise not to get into any fights, and a short scene where the two guys in the bar are talking about Bellamy. And like I said, and as Death-T's knowledge of the premier suggests, they were cut out by Cartoon Network. Some of them had absolutely no objectionable content whatsoever.
-

I agree. I mean, English isn't my first language either, but you guys pretty much understand what I say, right? ^^;; (Not trying to be mean or to show off or anything, I'm just saying.^^; )

Perfectly. =P
On-Topic:
Personally, I believe that whether or not the TV broadcast edits or omits any footage is of little importance. I'm not saying it doesn't get on my nerves, but it's not gonna stop people from watching. I mean, I can't imagine new viewers shouting at their sets in rage when Bellamy "flashed" Luffy.
Besides, to the casual viewer, which includes those who have never seen the Japanese original, the edits so far really don't seem too outrageous to be instantly noticeable, and certainly shouldn't hinder the experience as much as some like to believe.
I know, I know. People are entitled to their opinions, but this is just mine.
-
Holy shit, Wickio sighting.
-
Ah Bellamy voice is perfect.

Holy shit indeed, Zulen. Holy shit indeed.

I have to agree. One particular bit that perked my ears was during the game with Roshio when Bellamy turned around and called for Sarquiss. Now, I haven't seen the Jaya arc for some time now, but that sounded extremely close to how I remember Bellamy saying it in Japanese. (Either that, or I'm horribly wrong. =|)
-

Those people matter as much as the TV version. I.e., not at all.

Yea I got sorta of the same feeling
Btw, did Blackbeard say more to Luffy in the bar or is that in the next episode??

Talked to him?He talks to him next episode after the whole Bar fight.

Oh okay. That's what I thought just checking.

Unless they have a nelson box, people who don't buy the DVD sets do not have opinions that matter at all. They are not Funi's paying customers and whether they watch TV or not doesn't effect Cartoon Network one bit. Nothing they say or do will ever have any effect on the R1 release of One Piece. They are not entitled nor deserving of anything at all. Frankly, they should be damn lucky they're getting what they've got because they're getting way more than they're paying for.
Who the !@#$ cares if there are TV edits? Odds are fair that no individual episode of One Piece will ever be aired more than two or three times. They will not be recorded for prosperity. Once they're done airing, they're gone forever.
It is the DVD release of One Piece that people will be paying money for. It's that version that will be released and then released again and then released again on a new disk format. THAT is the version that will stand the test of time.
The TV version is nothing more than an elaborate preview of what the DVD will offer.

Completely agree with you there. As things go, I'm really just considering these broadcasts a preview of what we'll be getting come the release of the DVDs: Completely uncut episodes, with a good dub, and optional Japanese audio and subs.
Everything a One Piece fan could ever ask for.
-
the only edit I noticed when I saw it was bellamy shoting roshio out the window (Ya don't forget somthin like that!) But everything else was fine. So if people who have never seen the original watched it they'd just plain enjoy it, Of course I enjoyed it anyway gunshot or not
-
Yeah, Mcfarland said they can still keep the guns/ and shooting, but there are exceptions to that. Such as, someone being shot right in the face.
I think some people are making a bit of a big deal out of that scene though. They're acting like it they altered the scene to where he wasn't shot at all. But, the sound effect DID remain, which I think heavilyimplies that he was shot.

No. They took that out. Only the kick out of the window was heard. They didn't even show the gun.
HOWEVER. CN cut this NOT Funi. Because the people who went to the preview said that those scenes were left in.
Sorry Funi. You haven't failed me.
It's CN that keeps failing us!! (roars) -
People shouldn't stop watching the dub for another big reason: the success of One Piece on Cartoon Network will determine whether or not Toei will allow the franchise to continue to be distributed in America. If the FUNimation dub is a bomb, Toei will consider One Piece a write off and a failure in America and never allow the license to be picked up ever again. Everything is riding on the CN broadcast. Do your part and support One Piece on Cartoon Network.

Exactly more than ever now we need to be supportive of the new dub. Especially since this is the dub we've been wanting. Yes there are some unneccesary edits, but that could change over time. Just be patient.

^If only we were more like Inuyasha fan-girls… =(

^If only we were more like Inuyasha fan-girls… =(
How do you mean?
-
That's a scary thought. What's even scarier is that I've met real life Inuyasha fan girls in real life. :(
-
You know I was really afraid that when this dub started there would be people saying it wasn't any better than the 4Kids dub and whining and complaining over tiny edits… I never dreamed though that I'd be accused of being one of them.
I want to make it clear that just because I was disappointed in an edit, doesn't mean I hate it or anything like that. I know I said, "4Kids viewers were right at home..." but that was only with the gun edit. I mean it WAS something 4Kids would have cut, right?
Hey also, did anyone point out that Roshio (SP?) died and it wasn't cut or anything stupid?... I mean he didn't die on screen but I bet 4Kids wouldn't have done that. It was nice to hear implied death at least.
I did notice one edit I don't think anyone else did either. The Wild Cherry was called "Soda" something instead of "Pub" Soda is good, beats juice or just erasing the name
EDIT:
Soda and pies instead of Pub and pies... if this was pointed out I apologize, there was like 10 pages since I was last here so I didn't feel like reading them all. -
How do you mean?
Have you ever seen an Inuyasha fangirl in wild?
In a fight between an Inuyasha Fan-Girl and a Soccer Mom; there would be more epic destruction then… in a battle between Goku and Optimus Prime, fighting the unholy fusion of Majin Buu and Unicron.
I'm just saying that we don't need to become "that obsessive and crazed as a fanbase", over Funimation.
And as representative of the entire One Piece fanbase,… these are my views. In otherwords... lets hold our breath during bar scene in the next episode >.<

Fortunately for me I've never run into one in the wild.
-
I really think the best part of the episode was Bellamy knocking Luffy over and then that dude in the bar say in the most flamboyant of accents, "~Gooood gooinng Bellammyyy, Hrunh hrunh hrunh!!".
Although I really like how realistic the opening scene was, what with actual discussion going on amongst the people at the bar. Really added to the realism of the place.
Also, I loved the voice actors that were whispering to one another when the townsfolk surveyed the destroyed Wild Cherry.
-
I just watched it and was very pleased with the voices and the episode in general. I'm happy to see that Colleen can successfully make Luffy sound serious and angry. Her voice may grow on my yet. I can't wait for next week, and I hope the pg rating turns out to be true!
edit: Wickio!
btw, I didn't have any big issues with the editing. They're done well enough that I barely noticed since it's been a while since I've seen the episode. I did notice Nami's missing line…It might have been cut off from a late running commercial break. Bobobo ran way too long that night.
-
Yeah I didn't really notice any of the edits. I thought the episode was very enjoyable to be honest. Just as enjoyable as the original. If it was 4kids I wouldn't even be able to watch it, but FUNI has done a good job.
-
edit: Wickio!
Lovely to see ya, Cosmic! Any rumours of my untimely demise can now be laid to rest.
I'm not entirely convinced with Colleen's serious Luffy yet. I've just not heard enough to make a judgment, but it goes without saying that it's a BIG step up from what we've had in the past.
I have every faith that Colleen will convert me when we reach a real Luffy moment though.

HOLY CRAP WICKIO!
Where have you been, buddy? O_O
-
He's been around, he was on Dynamite Glove's forum a little while back.
By the way Wickio, are you the person who's been doing the new Ashita no Joe's fansubs?
-
Lovely to see ya, Cosmic! Any rumours of my untimely demise can now be laid to rest.
someday I'll get to use that quote too…
guess we can probably remove the fansubber title though...I'm not entirely convinced with Colleen's serious Luffy yet. I've just not heard enough to make a judgment, but it goes without saying that it's a BIG step up from what we've had in the past.

I was dismayed when I first heard the new Luffy since it sounds a lot like 4kids version, but the delivery and the lines delivered make all the difference in the world.

->>>They Should put a toothpick on SanjiMouth instead of nothing on his mouth<–-
itd be better if they could add in the cigarettte like the japanese. but we all know that will never happen. unless they put one piece on adult swim or something.
Didn't they do that with Rurouni Kenshin? I wasn't a big fan of the lollypop, but I would of happy as well with something in his mouth.
-
I tell you, I'm really getting annoyed by all these snots whose only reply to anything is "The DVDs are coming and the TV version doesn't matter anyway." Oh really, is that so? The version that all of you are going to watch doesn't matter? The version the majority of people are going to see if they wan't to check out One Piece doesn't matter? The version that will define new people's opinion of the show doesn't matter?
My point is, knock it off already. Everyone is already well aware of the fact that the DVDs will be unedited, bilingual, blah blah blah. If it makes you feel better to constantly parrot this back and forth, I guess I can't stop you. But if you're serious, than put up or shut up.

well some of us just aren't as nitpicky. Sorry that we can't belike you and bitch about how the dub is ruined because ZOMG THEY CUT OUT FOOTAGE FOR TIME!
