Heh, and to think people were actually complaining about the color of Bulma's hair…
…Now, see, if the DB Movies ever got to Freeza (pffffft--), I'd TOTALLY dig that look. But for Piccolo? Pretty damn pale, and I'm missing his antennae; I can forgive the ears, but the antennae were a one-of-a-kind thing in for the Nameks.
As with Bulma, I mucked around in photoshop with colors (the lighting on that photo makes it harder to muck with, dammmit) If Pale-ccolo is indeed 'before wish of youth' Piccolo, I'm hoping my result could be the aftermath.:
-
I don't think i need to tell you who he looks like now.
-
I think you do. I'm clueless.
-
There's no way you could not have gotten that.
-
I think I did, but my brain didn't want process the idea of Piccolo and Jim Carrey in the same thought.
-
I was thinking The Grinch :/
-
i was thinking the green goblin, from spiderman.

Several new interviews on http://dbthemovie.com/ . Emmy seems to have been quite the fan before the movie. Also, one of the interviews reveals a minor role of a woman called the "Avatar" which offers guidance to the characters throughout the movie…
-
The Avatar? What is this…a Nickelodean film?
-
…wow, this is just sounding worse and worse with every new piece of information.
-
Hahaha, come on, it's not that bad. Yes, it's a little left field… but still...
But why do they need someone to guide them? Wasn't that Roshi's job?
-
It sounds like the Avatar is a stand-in for Kami to me.
-
Why do they feel that kind of character is necessary?
I mean seriously, how many more of these movie characters are they going to have replace real dragonball characters? The thing that really gets me is that this movie will probably end up being a big stupid summer blocbuster and make enough money for a sequel despite all the bastardizing there doing… -

Maybe this Avatar is that witch from DB, what's her name Baba Yaga?
-
Ajiro-TWO sequels are already planned.
And-avatr-WTF?
-
lol. To think I had hopes for this movie.
Edit:
DBtheMovie: And finally, do you think the fans of the show will be satisfied with this adaptation?
A: Be sure not only the fans, but everybody who sees the movie will be very, very pleased and satisfied with the result. I think the director, the cast, the production, everything is part of a huge success, and I am very proud to be part of it.more lol
-
Ah Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
-
Guys, the "avatar" character just used that word in the sense that she's not even a real person. She's a minor character like the school people; just a hologram or something who greets people on their way into the city.

You will defend this movie to the death will you?
Ok so this movie may do good in the box office, WHO CARES! In the end fox films is still raping my childhood.

You will defend this movie to the death will you?
Dude, you all had a hugely wrong impression. I corrected it. That's all. Deal.

I feel that your the only person on the internet that seems to be "excited" about this movie.

Then "your" not looking in the right places.
-
What's a "the only person on the internet that" and why would Kaboom's care about this movie?
-
lol. To think I had hopes for this movie.
Edit:
more lolnothing diferent-lying as usual-I mean can you imagine them saying
"Weeeel we think fans are gonna be pissed as hell, cause we fuck everything half decent up and new viewers will be bored to tears, because it will look like a high school situated over an hour long version of Kung Fu:The legend continues!" ?

What reason would they have to do that? Are you really so desperate to cling to the notion that this movie will be terrible, that you'd accuse the cast and crew of flat-out lying about it? Geez, that's… pathetic.
Get this: they're actually admitting some things have been changed from the manga to make it more palpable, but they still assure us that it's going to be a good movie, and very "true to the spirit of DragonBall," as James Marsters put it. What does that show? They're familiar enough with the original to know that. Actors aren't always afraid of saying when a movie is going to be crap. Jackie Chan warned audiences that a recent movie of his "wasn't all that good," and Vin Diesel and Mathieu Kassovitz both expressed displeasure in how Babylon A.D. turned out. If Chatwin and Marsters and Rossum "really" thought DragonBall was going to be horse manure…. they would say so. They've already done the acting and gotten paid for it… they've got no reason to bend the truth or put up some kind of front.
And for god's sake, I'm getting tired of hearing this shit about the high school over and over and over. We already know it's going to constitute about 1% of the entire movie, the remaining 99% of which will be a spirited, dramatic story based on a combination of the Pilaf and Piccolo sagas of DragonBall, which is shaping up to be very dramatic, adventurous, and fantasy-oriented. If you insist on finding things about the movie to complain and nitpick over, then come up with some new material.
But for the life of me, I don't get why this movie is getting automatically trashed just because a few things are different. It's not "the manga in live-action," nor was it ever meant to be. The Spider-Man films deviated a lot from the comic books, but are all-in-all still good movies. Lord of the Rings, for all its aesthetic and visual accuracy to the books, STILL had some plot points and characters tweaked or even entirely omitted (Tom Bombadil, anyone?). Adaptations are done on differing levels of accuracy from material to material.
Hell, even with DragonBall's own stuff, there's been mixed-up stuff done with adaptations. Like the Trunks TV special. Instead of making Trunks already a Super Saiyan like in the manga's flashback, they switched things around, and made it Gohan's death that triggered it for him. It's a blatant contradiction to the manga, but it arguably made the story even better. Or the DragonBall 10th Anniversary special. That committed a slew of the same "offenses" as the live-action movie: Characters were omitted, storylines were skipped or glazed over, designs were different, etc… But I don't see anyone labeling that movie as "shit" because of it. Why? Just because it's animated? Because it wasn't made by a western studio? Honestly.
My point is, DragonBall's being treated no differently than any other comic or cartoon that's been turned into a movie. We know it's not going to exactly mirror the source material. Movie adaptations rarely do or even can, and it shouldn't even be expected. So if the creators have decided that a somewhat "looser" translation from the manga is appropriate, then they deserve the benefit of the doubt. Or at the very least, they deserve to not have the movie so harshly judged before it's even out.
-
I don't feel like reading all of that now so I'll respond to the first 3 paragraphs.
The actors you stated only exposed their dislike of the movies they were in after they were released. But I'm sure as hell they said "This movie's gonna kickass, so watch it!!" before it came out. So it's not that hard to fathom that they could be lying about now. No one would jeopardize any potential cash flow into their pockets. I can't recall not ONE actor who BEFORE the movie came out said that it was going to suck.
By the general flow of movies we know that Goku will spend 20 minutes of the film in highschool. Out of a 90min film that's about 18%. Quite a lot for a character who spent 0mins in his ENTIRE LIFE in highschool. So yeah I'm gonna keep bringing it up.
Edit: Read the 4th. When adapting a western comic book manythings can be changed and adapted because of the handy dandy ALTERNATE UNIVERSE OF CONVENIENCE. There are many different adaptions of comic books by different artists, writers, etc. which gives them leeway to pick and choose what they want to use, as well as totally change something that needs fixing. But when talking about a manga, there is one source and one story. So once you deviate from the original of course people are going to say " what the fuck?"
-
The thing is, it sounds like they're being honest. Like I said, they're going and acknowledging the differences, saying that "it's not the same as the manga, but we hope you'll like it anyway."

See what I did there?
Movie-Goku =/= manga-Goku. They've got similar personalities, similar origins, and similar abilities, but they're not one-and-the-same.
On that last point, that works for me. So long as people keep bringing it up, you can be sure I'll keep being there to shoot it down. I don't like it either, but dwelling on it will only make it seem worse than it really is.
-

Um not everyone's going to admit to they're movies sucking look at Colin Farell & Ben Affleck.
But I don't see anyone labeling that movie as "shit" because of it. Why? Just because it's animated? Because it wasn't made by a western studio? Honestly.
You haven't been looking in enough places.
-
@Sandai:
You haven't been looking in enough places.
DaizEX, MFG, and oftentimes YouTube. If it's DragonBall, and it's not being complained about there, then I don't know what to tell ya.
-
Why do they feel that kind of character is necessary?

The thing that really gets me is that this movie will probably end up being a big stupid summer blocbuster and make enough money for a sequel despite all the bastardizing there doing…It's not bastardizing, it's adapting. Why must everyone expect the exact same story and series in these live action films? You do realize just how fucking bad a movie that'd make, right? Least with this they're actually trying to make a FILM.
I feel that your the only person on the internet that seems to be "excited" about this movie.
Wrong, I'm one too.
-
i want to cosplay and go see this.
ill be krillin or maybe yajarobi.
i'll probably critic this whole movie since im obsessed with dbz (JUST GOT SEASON 6 TODAY ZOMG ZOMG OZGOMZGOMZG)
my prediction about this film
! its gonna have some good scene's and fighting, cept im sure a lot of people will bitch over the character designs, which I won't
-
It'd make more sense to, like other adaptations, think of this movie as its own "continuity." Instead of trying to worry about how much it does or doesn't match the manga. In manga continuity, Goku was a mountain boy until age 12, when Bulma met him. In movie continuity, he was until age (what's he, 18?), when his grandpa was killed and he ended up facing off against Piccolo.
-
The Path to Power 'adapted' the series faithfully, I don't see why we couldn't have gotten something in the similar vein to it.
-
Path to Power was good, but mainly to fans due to how rushed it was.
-
@Yuugi's:

But… but... there was no Kuririn! How could you NOT have any Kuririn and still call it a good DragonBall movie? No Launch, either! Not just that, but Goku's costume was TOTALLY off! And Goku's Kamehamehas were WAAAY too big and more powerful than they should have been at that point, especially that last one against Black, who's mecha was also WAAAY too big. What was he doing fighting the Red Ribbon Army, anyway! PILAF is supposed to be the first villain! They can't even get THAT right. What a horrible movie!
-
Like I said before, my beef with this film is that it changed the look too much.
-
@Yuugi's:

I getcha. Still, that's pretty much a given when you have to deal with costumes for real people. I, for one, would NOT have wanted to see Willem Dafoe sporting purple tights in Spider-Man.

Look,im not gonna read this all,its late.Im saying given that statement and that the people will get money of of sales,of course thir lying, like every other goddamn movie producer.Their making this to get money,so naturaly theyre gonna say its great no matter what.
Kaboom,I saw what I saw-I saw set photos, character castings, posters, costumes,"plot",Cho Yun "not Muten Roshi" fat,Vampire Picollo-so far I have litle reasons to actualy hope it will NOT stink.
Movie-Goku =/= manga-Goku. They've got similar personalities, similar origins, and similar abilities, but they're not one-and-the-same.
So…....WHY is he called "Goku" ,WHY is this called a Dragonball ADAPTION and WHY should I even CARE then ?Oh "its some jackass whose completely diferent in apearance, personality and background,so thats a faithfull adaption of the original"-adapting something and just falsely labeling a name over something completely diferent are two VERY diferent things.

Uh-huh. Sooo… the actors, director, crew, makeup guys, and everyone else who have pretty much said, "this movie is different from the original, but should still be pretty good" have just been flat-out lying because they want their paychecks.

Because if they didn't call him that, then the audiences would see a guy who is from an alien race called Saiyans, lived in the country as a boy raised by a wise old martial arts master, went on an adventure to find the DragonBalls and defeat Piccolo, trained under Roshi, wore orange-and-black gi with the kanji for "turtle" on it, and had unruly hair with a mind of its own, amazing strength, a tenacious appetite, and possibly transforms into a monkey-creature from exposure to certain lunar activity. Then you know what they'd think? "What a rip-off of Goku."
ONE added detail does not ruin a character. He's still plenty "Goku," in appearance, personality, and background.
-
I bet Oda's gonna get this movie off a torrent.

I wouldn't be surprised if One Piece gets delayed because Oda was camping out for the premiere. XD

It would be far from the first or last time people have lied about a shitty movie. It's called hype. Really now.
I'll grant that you're excited about the movie and think it will actually be good for some unfathomable reason, but "because the crew said so" is NOT by any means a valid reason to believe that it will be.
