Did anyone see this yet?

Gon, why did you post that? My eyes have forever been tainted because of you.
-
Didn't the fact that it's a link to Kotaku give you a hint?
At any rate what was in it, it's a Kotaku link and I rarely even CONSIDER checking their news. -

More casting news.
-
Y'know, I had to google "Mai" from DBZ to remember what character she was. XD;
I'm assuming this Emmy Rossum girl would be playing Bulma, but who knows?
-
That's who's going to play Mai.
Googling "Joon Park" comes up with a bajillion Japanese men with the same name.
-
So…am I the only one wondering why everything for this movie says it's "Z", when it's not?
I mean sure, it's the same thing in Japan, but if you make an American movie and showcase the "Z" it's kinda weird you have no actual Z stuff.
-

You mean Korean.

Does it matter at all?
-
Well not too me, but I mean from an advertising standpoint alot of kids probably will be going in expecting Vegeta and Super Saiyans.

Again, does it matter?
I dunno why people expect the marketing giant that is 'Dragonball' to be handled with love and care at every creative venture for the sake of die hard fans.
If it can make a buck, it will be done. There are a number of ways to go about it, one would be to create a film with big names in the action world and fill it with equally expensive SFX with a script that was written with Toriyama's cum as a seal of approval.
This would get a good number of hard-core fans to go see it.
Or.
They could attach no-names to the film and still manage some amazing SFX for half the budget and take a simple script that easily has the potential to grow into a franchise with a series of movie tie-in products allowing for a much larger viewing crowd around the world.
I'm not saying it's 'good' or what the series 'deserves', it just makes sense. I think some of the casting choices are odd (well, just one actually, Chichi is kinda funky) but if in the end it turned out looking like what the Speed Racer film looks like stylistically, it could be just as entertaining.
It's a topic which we could bitch about endlessly like some sites in the dwindling community seem to be doing, or we could just accept that fact, move on with our lives and wait and see what damage is done and not complain about it because of the danger of our egos being damaged for liking a series which received such a subpar film.
I'm not saying we can't critique it or comment on it, but the endless wave of:
LOL! No-name actress!
LOL! Calling DB DBZ!
LOL! He's not Japanese!
Just makes the community look like a festering boil of misplaced anger and fear.
-
Wow… does DBZ even come on anymore?
-
Yeah. Bout half a year ago it started re-airing via the Cell Saga Saturday Night's on Cartoon Network right after One Piece. Now Dragonball, no. And I doubt we'll see it on air again anytime soon.
-
I love how the movie is Dragon Ball and yet every place I read something about it is saying, "Based on the hit anime Dragon Ball Z!" I guess people won't recognize what it is without that Z on the end.
-
@Komrade:
Well not too me, but I mean from an advertising standpoint alot of kids probably will be going in expecting Vegeta and Super Saiyans.
You mean like the whole situation that occured with "Final Fantasy: The spirits within"?
-
Nah, with that, people expected a good movie. Instead they got 'that'.
-
Holy…......fucking..............shit
Chow Yun-Fat Joins Dragonball Movie as Master Roshi

International star to play mentor character to film's lead
The Hollywood Reporter entertainment trade newspaper reports that international star Chow Yun-Fat will play the character Master Roshi in Twentieth Century Fox's live-action film adaptation of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball action manga. In the original manga and in the film version Master Roshi is a mentor of the lead character Son Goku (Justin Chatwin), and he helps train Goku in martial arts.
Chow rose to fame in Hong Kong with a series of John Woo films that included A Better Tomorrow, The Killer, and Hard Boiled. He found some success outside Hong Kong in such films as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Curse of the Golden Flower, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Chow joins a Dragon Ball cast that already includes Chatwin, James Marsters (Piccolo), Jamie Chung (Chi Chi), Emmy Rossum (Bulma), Eriko Tamura (Mai), and Joon Park (Yamcha). Shooting has already begun in Mexico City and Los Angeles, and the studio is planning for an August 15 release.Wow…....

No matter how many big names you bring in, this movie is going to tank faster than Balls of Fury.
-
Goku's a white guy, right?
This movie is going to be cheesy. And funny!
-
In LA? wounder what part so I can skulk around and see what they gots lol
-
This just proves im NEVER gona see THIS embaras-fest.
-
You have to admit tho, if you throw a turtle shell on his back, facial hair and sunglasses on his face and have him hunch over with a cane he makes a mad looking Roshi.
-
My sister will only go to this movie if it has cardboard effects.
Please don't disappoint her.
-
just what are "cardboard " effects?
-
Effects made out of cardboard.

Regardless. It's still gonna blow.
Lookit Balls of Fury. It had Christopher Fuckin' Walken in it. And it tanked miserably.

Spare yourselves the trip and just get this. It's an awful movie, but by god the cheesieness is overwhelmingly hilarious.

I think it could be alright, especially since Stephen Chow is directing it. If you've ever seen any of his works you know how he can make anything seem funny.
-
He's producing it.
-
i really just have no faith in this movie whatsoever, but at the same time the middle schooler inside of me is like COME ON MAYBE THIS CAN BE POSSIBLY SORT OF GOOD IN SOME UNLIKELY WAY
but i hate the middle schooler inside of me and would punch him
-
James Wong is the one directing, and he made Final Destination, so it has to be good, amirite?

Haha. I was just telling someone I wanted to buy that thing.
Thanks.

I actually loved that movie to tell you the truth(for what it was worth, I was not expecting much). Saw it on The International Channel (now AZN Television) like 3-4 years ago.
-
I like how that even though most people are mocking this idea now, I know they are going to go pay, and watch it.
We all know we want to see how it turns out.
You guys are silly.

I've seen the bastardized treatmeant FUNimation gave DBZ and DBGT.
I'm not going to tempt fate to see how much possibly worse this could be. Just the news is enough to tell me how disasterous this is turn out. :getlost:
Plus I have the internet and plenty of suckers who're willing to go see the movie and will give details.
-
Von Karma TOTALLY dissaproves of this BS -
I would never pay for this.Plus, there are enough douchebacks wholl put it up on the internet.
-
…well, at least they're not making a live-action One Piece movie. That would be full of as much fail and AIDS as this, if not moar.
-
I actually feel One Piece would make a pretty amazing series of movies if done by the right person and fans aren't gonna be anal that the characters look real.

Look how badly the RE movies turned and look at all the mopes who lined up to toss money at the crock of bull.
And One Piece wouldn't be my first choice for a manga series I'd like to see get the live action treatment because of how badly compressed and altered it would be.
-
Hey guys, here's a still of Goku and frenz from the "prom" sequence of the school years in the movie!!
-
Atleast one of them is going SSJ
-
if they ever do a live-action One Piece movie, let's hope they make a live-action Naruto movie first. They can ruin our shit first over my dead body:getlost:
