First, thank you very much for the compliment.
Secondly, I did my research regarding breaks here. If you're the same Greg I've seen in the OP section, then you can navigate this site far better than I can, but for anyone interested, the section on the left labeled "ジャンプ連載順位" with a bunch of years under it is a collection of charts of Shonen Jump tables of contents. With those charts (plus my own chart, which does cover the part of 2010 that this website has not yet included), I counted the absences for OP, Naruto, and KochiKame myself to attempt to prevent any errors, but feel free to double check; if I have made an error, I'll be happy to correct it.
Thanks for reading. Here's hoping HxH returns soon.
Buwahaha! That certainly answers THAT! I'd heard he didn't take a break his first 3 years but I had no idea that even AFTER that he only took 3 breaks up until 2003. Man is running on crazy juice.
Since you're here, again, great article. In particular I enjoyed the offering of both positive and negative points in a unbiased format which may sound contradictory given what I post here but I'm posting on AP, not writing a professional piece like you did. Awesome job and an incredibly useful tool for fans. Infinitely more useful than Wikipedia's 'He has taken several breaks' blip.
Re: KochiKame
No matter how you slice it, that's impressive. However, do keep in mind there's no overarching story which means each week simply 'happens'. Not taking away from that crazy record but it's significantly easier for Akimoto to come up with his stories after he hits the proverbial resent button each week without a continuous narrative. Again, not taking away from the accomplishment though. Man loves what he does and apparently Oda and the other JUMP authors respect the hell out of him given their comments from time to time in the ToC.
