Yeah but prolonged discussion with Aethos brings everything further down
There's really nothing to "save" in SJ. This thread is just a subliminal way of saying "OP needs more chapters than Naruto in the American SJ."
Subliminal? Not really…
Yeah, more like obvious.
Besides, when Jump catches up to the JP Naruto, everything goes back to the way it was. Nothing to save here.
They want to attract boys, not kids in general. GaoGaiGar and Gash are ideal properties for them, especially GGG.
It's not about content, it's about deception. Geneon chickened out on the whole appeal of Higurashi by trying to show that the title is dark, not try to surprise the fans about making it seem like a happy go lucky title that turns violent.
People have a natural fear and disgust of deception - parents are perfectly willing to buy Naruto knowing full well there's some rough-edged content. But OP looks like a kiddie show, so for some parent to watch the DVD and see it full of smoking, gore, and sex (the fanservice) is likely to anger a lot of people.
No, I think clips are a perfectly legit way to judge a dub. In fact, the actual product should be even less impressive than the clips, if Haruhi is to be a measure and Haruhi is supposed to have "the best" actors (though I disagree).
I've forgotten Voltron, it's been too long since I saw it.
Hana Dan created the slice-of-life romance school drama setting seen in modern shoujo - it's descendants include Ouran and FB. Sailor Moon was the mother of modern magical girl shows and was the first to actually make them "magical" - Fushigi Yuugi and SM came out around the same time but FY conformed to SM's more successful formula. Cardcaptor Sakura and Tokyo Mew Mew are children of SM.
Those two titles basically took the floating ideas of '70s shoujo manga and created a solid formula out of them, just like how Hokuto and DBZ fathered modern shounen.
Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura do not have fanservice in the modern sense - no panty shots, no arse shots, very little sexual innuendo or nudity scenes.
The "sex sells" movement in Japan is only a recent invention, starting to rise in prominence around 2002 (after Azumanga). Gainax was always liberal with their fanservice but they've traditionally worked against the grain.
I'd love to reply to you Terek but considering that SOME people seem to think that all I ever do is bring threads down. I'm just going to concede here and not even bother anymore.

And that's bad why? I think One Piece deserves as much right to "catch up" as any other series. As a collector I'd love to have say 35 Viz volumes in my collection ASAP. Who's to say they'll still be around in a few years time?
Found this, thought I'd bring this up.
NOTE : I'm taking this directly from the new September issue. These are all the pro's I could find, I'm not gonna bother with the cons
A new DBZ video game for the Wii, which I might add is great.
Also, for the XBOX 360, Blue Dragon!
Bleach anime guide
New DVD of Bleach
Hint that Bleach will start being realeased in SJ for the Vizard arc and so on
Naruto anime guide (although it is full of shitty fillers, and where the fuck did the OP anime guide go)
2 new Naruto DVD (I'm not gonna buy, but its good there keeping up to date)
5 chapters of naruto (heck, if its good for the magazine and its keeping it alive, do it!)
A chapter of Bo-bobo (only a chapter, but its good they have it atleast)
Interview with Author of Bo-bobo Yoshio Sawai (and its 2 part so theres more next month)
2 chapters of Yuyu (and I believe next month we're already going to be seeing the "Doctor", and month after that Seaman or whatever
new Hikaru no go DVD
Hikaru no go 2 chapters (and wraps up the Waya game)
New manga (Kurohime)
3 chapters of One Piece (and look, they've been releasing 3 chapters for almost 4 months, thats rather good imo)
2 chapters of Yugioh millenium world (hell, atleast there wrapping it up)
I don't care at all for Yugioh GX so I'm not gonna bother
Prince of Tennis DVD
Brain Benders (but it is revolved around Naruto so… idk)
Prince of Tennis vol 21
Black cat vol 10
Dr. Slump vol 13 (note : they stopped releasing this for almost like 3 months, so this is good)

Video game page with 2 pages
New manga next month and its also a DBZ collector issue
Whats more to say, just in one month the magazine is looking much better than it did a year or two ago.
Someone mentioned edits in Voltron; there was no Voltron, but two other animes fused together with their storylines changed. All dubs were altered shit back in those days. Ever see "Saber Rider and the Star Sherrifs"?
Looks like Viz is shaping up a bit in their contents.

Well, it's not just OP.
One of the things I imagine as great about the real Jump is that, with two dozen different series, there's something for many different tastes; if you only like a few series, it's still enough justification to buy the issues.
You lose some of that effect with the US model of 5 or 6 series, and even more when you start cannibalizing the positioning of those series to make room for more Naruto.
US Jump has also jumped from fad to fad to ensure its continual business. They tried DBZ but it was already a bit played out, and hitched their star to Yugi until Naruto took over in the public's mind.
They need to really start lining up something to take over, because Naruto is not a forever answer. The odds are that we'll see some popularity drop-off if American fans as a whole agree with the scan-readers on the comparative weakness of the later part of the series, and they obviously can't do such a focused campaign after they catch up on the Japanese releases.
All together, this does not smack of a healthy future for ASJ.
Well, u see I read the Original Starter's post which basically amounted to "Naruto sux, OP should be treated better." Had he just said he wanted OP to have more exposure and whatnot, it would've been fine. But he tried to make it seem like Naruto was to blame when it's infact SJ's own fault.
And I agree, Naruto ain't gonna last forever, so they indeed need more ammo. Just saying tho, it's SJ's decision, not Kishi's.
We could make it his choice.
Take him on a tour of America. Show him the ameritaku, the bad fanfic, the people who have wrote extensive and very serious forum threads about the possibility of getting Gaara-style forehad tattoos*. By the time he's halfway done, he'll be begging them to stop translating the series. Problem solved.
*Yes, I'm serious. It was on the DeviantArt forums a few months ago.

Soon they shall build a giant statue of Naruto… or Sasuke on top of the white house in order to promote America's love for Naruto!

Aw man. I'd rather them just keep doing bi monthly releases of Bleach then put it in the magazine. I mean heck they didn't do that for FMA why do it for Bleach?

Its simple:
-Full Metal Alchemist is Shonen Gangan and they don't have a magazine for that even with its hype.
-Bleach is Jump…and since its developing into Viz breadwinner #2 (1 is the ninja series), they want to exploit it as explicitly as possible.

Hey instead of Shounen Jump they should just call it the "Naruto and Bleach zine"
I mean after all it's not like Viz cares about anythng OTHER than Bleach and Naruto… geez it's like a real life version of Narutofan forums. We're lucky One Piece even get's three chapters. I can see that lowering once Bleach is in there.
Still I'd rather just see them catch up with Bleach instead of stalling it with the magazine.
We should use Naruto to promote the war in Iraq by promising to make all signup troops into honorary ninjas.

Personally if they wanted to do this right, they should just have a weekly mag with everything in one chapter and releases every two months. That way, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and everything else will have equal footing instead of biases Viz picked up off the web. Besides, its not like the Bleach releases in Japan are any faster. (the last volume ended with the start of the Dolondoli fight…and that was all the way back in December of last year)

yeah but we're only what? 8 volumes behind Japan at the moment? No reason why they can't just go with bi monthly releases until they're dangerously close. THEN put it in the magazine.
I'm calling it right now that eventually American SJ will be half Naruto and half Bleach with One Piece being ousted and going into just graphic novel releases. Which in a way is still good. Maybe then we'd get faster releases.
I correct myself, I'm actually enjoying the new stuff in the mag, its pretty cool, I'm sort of hoping that we get one of those gigantic 3 volumes a month packages for OP eventually. I swear, if it wasn't for that shitty dub people in the US would love OP. Luffy sounds like a stupid little kid, and theres no blood, swearing, and a whole lot of things are edited (Sanji's cigarrette, Smoker = Chaser (What the fuck)
Anyway, Drum Island is getting to its close.
If you count how many chapters they're is for each SJ Volume, how much would it be?
I can't of it hate it when they put old stuff in the mag (mainly something that finished on tv). I dont mind yugioh because its almost gonna end (I hope the Oct if not sept). GX I dont mind because the thing is diff then it is in the anime. I dont mind bobobo either because I cant find it anywhere. (I would like gintama to come back, I dont know why though)
A few thoughts in my head on how to improve WSJ:
-Two to three chapters each of OP/Naruto/Bleach per volume. That way none will overwhelm the other and Viz can't go by their biases and could work with their other series too.
-Increase Bo-bobo to two/three chapters a month. The series is just moving too slowly with its "one chapter a week" matter. (and while I'm at it, release the first ten volumes, including a reformatted Vol. 9/10 with the Halekulani arc in its right place and the beginning of the Cyber City/Giga arc)
-Not much I can really say to either HnG or YYH…particularly with the latter in the Sensui arc and getting closer to its end.
-With YGO (the original, not GX) ending, don't replace it with YGOR! (though I heard its pretty good, enough is enough with the YGO biases) Instead, replace it either with a new series (either something running in the magazine now or a classic series that could get a following that wouldn't normally) or with a series that could grow in interest through the magazine. (my suggestion: Reborn, particularly once it starts the Kokuyo High arc.)
I'd say to replace Yugioh once it ends with the original Kinnikuman series. I'm somewhat sure that Viz got its license with the 2nd series. And it would be awesome to read the original.
