Bleach is indeed the most bloody of the three popular shonen (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach). Blood comes out like gallons in that series. However, that doesn't mean a Toonami edit would be bad. All it would do is tone down the blood.

In the Japanese version of Sonic X, Sonic every now and then says "SHIT" in english.
Does that make Sonic X and adult show? I think not, I think not my friends, I think not indeed. I was going to make a point here but I've forgotten what it was.
Our Japanese brethren to the southwest of us here in the US of A do not understand the vulgarity of the 's' word?
-
Well of course Sonic X it's O.K. for him to say that IN JAPAN he says it even in some of the games as well. You don't have Sonic saying "Shit" in any language in the US.
I always got a chuckle out of that show being called Sonic X, and even more so that 4kids kept it.
I don't get it…

@Yuugi's:

YES, that was it. But now I realize that doesn't really offer an argument against translations of Japanese words..

Just render it the way you think is most appropriate for the demographic, while retaining the original intension as much as you can think possible.
-
Hey let's stop talking about Bleach and think about this. Is it possible that episodes 144+ may air early in a different country? Like the entire second half of Alabasta did?
-

Yes, exactly. Thanks once again.

Not really. I think they just started recording 144+ and I'm betting CN has first dibs.

So anyways, I say that CN will skip straight to Rainbow Mist and go to Jaya. This is because I have very little faith that CN wants to also just get to FUNi's dub.
-
ok, just to clear something Up real quick (that I believe IS on Topic), Kuso Literally Means "Excretement" but is a Vulgar way of saying it (as Ore is to Watashi) and they literally use it in Japan just as we do, "oh Crap/Shit" as an exclamation most times, and actually some Subtitles translate it as Damn or Darn. but it Is Indeed meant to mean "Poop". so, to Have Sanji Say "crap" is JUST as correct as him saying "Shit" because Both Words are a More vulgar way of saying "excretement". so STOP complaining about it! and yes, before anybody on the "Sanji MUST say shit" bandwagon asks, I DO know Japanese!
Now, about CN. It's kindof strange as to what they are going to do exactly. They said the new dub would be on In August, but with how many Episodes they have to go, they won't make it in August unless they have a marathon, or they skip Rainbow Mist. But someone here already said that they weren't skipping Rainbow mist, or did I misread somewhere?
and some of the things they're doing agree with me, while some don't. Like, why do they have to keep old names and such? Kids are gonna be MORE Confused seeing Sanji sound like a Human being when they've been used to the recorded sounds of a Dying Cat for so long that it wouldn't MATTER at this point how many other new things are introduced will it? I mean it isn't like DBZ where their main focus in the Recast was getting New VAs who sounded like the old ones, they're Pretty much throwing the sounds of the Old ones By the Wayside, becasue even if the new actor sounds ANYTHING Like the Old ones, they'll either have a different accent (Robin), won't be nasaly(Chopper), or Will actually be able to ACT (Luffy/Vivi when they do the Arabasta Movie) but eh, it's not like I really care too much. I'll be watching the TV broadcast to hear the Voices and the Acting more than Anything, it's the DVDs I REALLY want for all my OP goodness XP. I just want actual DVDs where I can watch OP In RAW Japanese (or English if the Dub is good enough) on an Actual DVD that I didn't burn without costing me an arm and a legEDIT: oh, one thing I forgot to say. one Thing I'd LOVE them to do with the Uncut DVDs is to do what Inoue-san Sugested they do, and change some of the lines from the Japanese version, like, In Sanji's Flashback, after he Rescues him, when Sanji goes "what happened to your leg?", they rewrite the Dialogue or Add-lib in Zeff saying "First I had to chop the leg off to save you, then I had to EAT the damn thing to survive" so it's Closer to the Manga

But then they'd have to deal with that whole part they animated where Zeff gets his leg caught in the chain. It wouldn't work to change the story if it's already engraved into the animation , that's why 4Kids' edits didn't make sense so many times.
-
The only manga->anime change I can think of that can probably switched back in a dub is Mr. 2 going back from Ballerina to Okama.
-

that's why I said he should say something like "First I had to chop it off to save you, then I had to eat it"
but it was only an Idea for similar Stuff they could do, The Bon Kurei Stuff would also be awesome -
Eh, I guess they could do that.. It's kind of hard imagining cutting your leg off and grabbing it as it's chopped off and then saving Sanji, though.
I'd say just leave it how it is in the anime.
-
well, that was the part Inoue-san used as an Example, but the same principle may work better with other Line changes (like Bon Kurei's Okama Stuff ETC)
-
Er, sorry for not knowing, but what exactly is an Okama?
Just wondering.
-

Homosexual and/or transvestite.
-

It's the Japanese verson of a Queen, or gay transvestite.
-

I think it means Gay in Japan and he names all his attacks after that I think.
-
It's Just "gay" as far as I know, that's what Wikipedia Says and I'm PRETTY sure it's Right. That being a Word My Japanese Teacher didn't teach me XP
In the Anime, I BELIEVE they started calling him Okama in the first few episodes he appeared, and then changed it so that the word on his back (which was literally Okama) was changed to Ballerina (I think) and he Called himself a Ballerena instead of an Okama.EDIT: Found a Definition
Okama (お釜, おかま)
Literally "a pot, a kettle" this word, always with the honorific prefix "O-" refers to a gay man, especially one who is viewed as effeminate or a drag queen. Can be pejorative. The word originated in Edo period slang for the anus. In current use. -
Actually it can refer to someone who cross-dresses also. It doesn't always mean the other.
-
It's not an anime full of grey, spikey haired villains and blood thirsty brooding villains, so it's not badass. Thus you lose all of the Final Fantasy fans.
No one uses guns, thus you lose the Trigun and other hyper gunner anime show fans. Usopp uses a sling shot. Making it look childish.
No energy blasts, losing your DBZ freaks.
I remember when I first started watching One Piece (back at the Skypiea arc) I stopped watching it because of how stupid some of the characters designs looked, but a few years passed, and I went back and loved One Piece.
But I can't see a 13 year old anime fan falling in love with OP, but thats just me.
I'm 14 and got into One Piece a couple months ago. At the same time,I like all of those other shows you mentioned. So what's your implication ? :wassat:
-
But I can't see a 13 year old anime fan falling in love with OP, but thats just me.
I guess it is just you, 'cause I'm 13 and I love OP.
-
Well I guess if the guy that said a Thirteen year old likeing one piece cant happen well I say nice knowing you people and see you on some naruto forum.(sarcasm)
-

I got into One piece when I was 11, maybe even 10, but pretty sure it was 11.
-
When did the 4Kids dub start? 2002/2003 yes? I was 12/13 then, and I got into the show at that age, AND with a crappy dub no less.
I'm not sure when this discussion got started, but since everyone else was mentioning it I felt like I should throw in as well.

Back when I was 10 I wouldn't even be close to knowing what One Piece was. Considering that the anime would either be just starting out, or hadn't started at all. I got into it a few years ago, shortly after 4kids' horrible dub began.

Same here.
I read about it on some forums and even when I watched the 4Kids dub, I was still enthralled by it (enthralled is a word, right?…I think so). Only part I got really bored was the Drum arc with those giant bunnies...
Seeing as I found the 4Kids dub satisfactory (until I realized they skipped some important arcs), I can't wait to see Funi's dub.

Funi's will be good because I like the way there going to Dub One Piece and sell uncut dvds.

… Oh, wow, I feel so old now ...!
I got into One Piece when they started Shounen Jump here in America. So that was ... what, 2002-03? I guess I was either fifteen or sixteen.
... ;-; Aaah, so old now ... XP!

I wanted to bring up something I found last night which was actually talked about here several pages back.
I was checking several of the actors' MySpace pages last night just for kicks to see if there were any comments made about One Piece. And I actually found it mentioned in Luci Christian's blog. She said she checked out a couple message boards and was going to post but it seemed like the board she was checking out seemed to be bashing her because they were afraid she'd give Nami a hick accent based on one of her previous roles, causing her to be "scared away".
If someone meets her at Otakon or some other con, I hope someone can tell her THIS place would welcome her. (at least based on what people have said in the past) I'll see if I can pass along a message to her on MS (I really never use MS, but I do have an account nonetheless).
-
Okay, this may be late, but anyone attending the One Piece panel at Otakon _ASK FUNIMATION HOW THEY WILL BE HANDLING THE PLOT HOLES WHEN THEY GET THERE.
Plot holes include Laboon and Little Garden._

…........... by dubbing and airing them. I mean, that's kinda obvious.

I'm saying in regards to 4kids plotholes for their TV dub, since they can't distribute those missing episodes yet.

It would be dumb if they don't just air the episodes like they were originally.
So, yeah, the ones that never watched the original would have to refer to the Manga sold by Viz or just think that "Luffy did that, but nobody bothered with an episode" kind of crap.

Well, since the plot holes are quite a ways away, maybe FUNimation will have time to redub those missing episodes before the plot holes are revealed.

I thought that was what they were going to do in the first place - besides character name changes, I mean …
And a WTF to the forum people complaining about Nami's new VA due to a previous role. Funi's stated several times that the Straw Hats won't have accents. Bash it through people's heads already.
