speaking of DVDs How many episodes and how much will the DVDs be?
The DVDs will be 13 episodes for $49.99. This was said back when it was announced that FUNi had OP.

On a slightly related note, "kusou" literally means "excretement", so "crap" and "shit" work equally well, and "chikusho" (also used a lot) is more close to "dammit". I'm gonna have to agree with the comments on how subbers constantly using bigger curse words for the sake of making it feel more "adult" though, and it kind of annoys me. One scene in particular is Ussop yelling at Franky about him sayign to trash the Merry, and all I remember was "SHUT THE FUCK YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHITFUCKASSCOCKTITTYSHITFUCKITYFUCKFUCKENHEIMER" and I was like…"that's...not Ussop? At all?"
Off the topic of foul language, Otakon's this weekend and I'm sure FUNimation will have SOMETHING One Piece related there. God knows I'll have SOME sort of example of Luffy's voice from Colleen by the end of that weekend.
EDIT: Also! (If this has been mentioned in another topic, my bad) This is the schedule we have for the upcoming remaining 4Kids-dubbed episodes:
July 14th - The Turn of the Two
July 21st - Pirate Vivi
July 28th - Stoaway
August 4th - Legend of the Pirate HunterAfter that, there are supposably the five Rainbow Mist episodes...however, doing the math that would put the Masira episode (which is the first episode of the Jaya arc) in September, and FUNimation's been saying August for showing the new dub's episodes. This COULD mean Cartoon Network will be skipping the Rainbow Mist arc, but I don't think we'll know until the next episode airdate is shown.
Lets hope they skip this arc It was terrible filler and since 4kids got there hands on it.shruddders
Or they could have a marathon.
Having a marathon of bad filler made horrible by 4Kids the week before a much better dub comes out is either good contrast or would turn even more people away before the Funi dub starts…
I've always figured they'd do some sort of marathon for the final episodes, almost as a way to promote the series. Although, promoting a good dub by marathoning a bad one sounds like a bad idea.
As long as the dub starts in August as planned.
i hope they have one piece back in england
If 4kids OP went to England and Austrailia, I don't see why the FUNi version wouldn't.
I think someone should ask for clarification from FUNi at Otakon next weekend, as to whether or not they WILL be starting the dub in August.
FUNi basically confirmed it at Anime Expo, and I'm sure the August date came from talking with CN, who should have been well aware how many 4kids episodes they had and how long it would take them to finish them for quite some time now.
The DVDs will be 13 episodes for $49.99. This was said back when it was announced that FUNi had OP.
thank you
Tell ya what, I'll do what EGX did back at Anime Boston. I'll be at Otakon, so if anyone has any questions they'd like to be asked which haven't been clarified or answered in the past, just PM me, and I'll see what I can find out.
…if I remember/feel like it :P
@Kaimei-Karasuhebi:
Well, Hiruma from Eyeshield21 is by far a worse "person" that Sanji in social terms, and the fans actually changed his "Damn" to "Shitty" before refering to anyone by their respective nicknames, so yeah, it's sometimes annoying how scanlators change lines that don't even fit the character, but at least "shit" actually fitted Sanji like it did with Hiruma .
Hiruma literally has "fuck" written out in kana, actually.
Unless you're watching the anime, in which case I should slap you
Oh, and I'll be at Otakon too.

Eh, like this:
ファーク?
@Yuugi's:

ファーク?
More like, ファッキン (Fucking), he adds that to everyone's title, i.e: Fatty, Baldy, Monkey, etc.
Well, just finished showing my friend the 8th Movie… He knows nothing of the Alabasta Arc, and he thought the movie was awesome, so we have another one that can't wait for the movie to be dubbed, thank god I'm not the only one lol.
Anyway, why are we talking about swears for the Funimation dub? It's kinda obvious what's going to happen with it... None will be on the TV version, the Uncut DVDs will have swears, and if it gets too intense on DVD, they may have those swear scenes in the subs and not the dub.
I was interested in the opinions of those who have not seen One Piece with Movie 8. Our fandom, even tho we don't think so, probably does get in the way. I'd like to hear more non-One Piece fans opinions on it.
My theory, people only hate it in comparison with the Anime and Manga, just like people hate the Dubs compared to Subs
@Cain:
You mean NEXT weekend, Otakon is the 20th-23rd. Who'll be going, just out of curiosity?
I will. I'm getting a bunch of FMA stuff signed, and I'm going to be asking FUNimation at their booth about One Piece too.

Hell, I'd like to see it dubbed, also! I agree with some people that Toei could have made more of an effort with that movie, I did enjoy it for what it was. Seeing it dubbed with the new FUNi voices will be sweet!
However, I'm not picky. The truth is… I'd be happy with a completely uncut and uncensored dub of OP, even if it still had the 4Kids voice actors!

There was Actually a Scene in the DBF in the manga, that NULL did that was just WAY off for the Sake of Making it sound More Adult and Racist actually.
When Usopp gets the Afro, he's supposed to say "They say it's the Afro that Makes the Campion, or the Champion that Makes the Afro" NULL changed it to "They say that the Blacks are Champs" which made me double take, since when has Real-world Races had anything to do with One Piece?!~
and This Dub is Being Handled by the YYH team, I have Full Confidence in it XP
"They say that the Blacks are Champs" hahhahegh…I feel so bad for laughing at that.
I got a Question.
Will movie 8 Be uncut and go on dvd.or com and Air on cartoonnetwork and be cut?

I'd assume both will happen eventually.
Somebody ask about the episode titles. Will they be using the ones Mato translated?
EDIT: For the dub, I mean.

I see no reason why they wouldn't use translated episode titles. But it never hurts to ask.
Also yeah, ask about movie 8 being aired on CN.

Maybe they will use the Japanese Title or close to it.like naruto does
Usually, if the original title is short (like the ones in Fullmetal Alchemist or Desert Punk) they usually do, or something reasonably close to it. If the title is overly long (like most Toei-produced anime, including Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragonball) they will probably be going with a condensed title.
That's what I've noticed, anyway. You should ask them if they are doing that, though. It'd be nice to have the title card music going and Luffy's voice actor announcing the title because it would make for good Japanese-English continuity. (That's something I missed from their dub of Yu Yu…)

Well even the 4Kids dub kept the title cards. The titles were shorter, but they still took a couple seconds out of each episodes with the title text over a bckground.
Come to think of it, all the Toonami anime keep their title cards don't they?
And Naruto's titles have been kept rather long, with voice overs and all, as have the occaisonal Boboboo titles that are really long, so there shouldn't be any reason why One Piece couldn't have them.
Oh, I wasn't talking about "not" keeping the title cards. I know that they're going to do their own title cards. However, I was, going from what I know from their other dubs, just predicting whether or not they'll be long or short for the dub. (Maybe if they get enough fan response in time, they'll make 'em longer, or maybe they already have.)
Hell, as long as they keep the titles as pun-free as possible, I'll be freaking ecstatic.
The Otakon Schedule is now up!
Saturday, 2:00PM, "One Piece Panel & Premiere". Mark your calenders convention goers!
Premiere? Does that mean they get to watch an episode? :O
Wooo!
I honestly hope, if it is what we think it is, that someone records it with considerably quality.
Premiere? Does that mean they get to watch an episode? :O
I don't see why else they would use the word "premiere" in addition to panel! Besides, the FMA movie was shown at Otakon last year before the official DVD release so perhaps…..
....oh, I'm just too excited about this...
The Otakon Schedule is now up!
Saturday, 2:00PM, "One Piece Panel & Premiere". Mark your calenders convention goers!
Makes me wish I was going, but hey, a 14 hour drive, and about 4 tanks of gas just to GET THERE is a bit more than I'm willing to do.
So who's going to set up the sound recording, because while I'm looking forward to the premier, I'm not looking forward to shitty-ass camera sound. Try to get two people to stand reasonably close to the speakers with simple sound recorders. Do a test recording to make sure it's not too loud, and to make sure the sound of the convention isn't too overbearing.
Add another plant directly in front of the screen about 20-30 feet away to get a straight on recording of the video. The video and two audio tracks (left-channel and right-channel) will subsquently be mixed to create a highish quality dubbed episode of One Piece. Then, if it was possible, just replace the con video with the original episode footage. Then you not only have a good quality sound recording, but a excellent quality video recording.
Another thing, is the episode going to be uncut or cut?
YESSUM!!!
Can't wait for this!
Oh, sure, let me just waltz on down to the free camera store and pick up your fancy-pants recording devices to get your precious premiere in "good sound" and "high quality" video. You think I have money to buy all that!?
I'll try to take SOME video with my FinePix, but I ain't making any promises about quality. Although, I'm sure somebody out there is gonna get a good recording of the whole panel.
As for cut or uncut….My guess would be the broadcast version of the show, since its pretty close to the actual (up in the) air date.
I cant wait till this saturday Otakon will air a special sneek preview for one piece I get my Harry potter book awsome day.
Makes me wonder why Funi was all excited about their announcements at Anime Expo, but never mentioned this for Otakon.
Oh well, in any case this is very good news!
MUCH more excited about Otakon now, plenty of voice actor panels to keep me entertained, and now the OP premiere panel seals the deal. I can't record sadly, since I don't have any cameras, but I'm sure SOMEONE, if not anyone on this forum, will record it just like the panel at AX.

Well, nothing is beats a good or bad oppinnion. :P
I just hope that the premiere don't spawn a storm of posts flaming how crappy was the dub or whatever that could go trough an extremely picky person's mind. I personally only care about the edits, so video or not, a simple oppinnion of a person who knew the original would do it for me.
I think it's a given that someone will complain about the dub.
Just don't compare it to the sub. Take it as its own entity and judge from there. That's all I'm going to say.
Awesome news!
For those going, I just had a few questions that's been brought up before.
-We know they're using 4Kids names but will it strictly be TV only, or will the DVDs be the only source out there for the real names. Will we be seeing "Zolo" in videogames and "Trace" on T-Shirts?
-Are there plans to show Movie 8 on Toonami?
-Just for kicks, if you can, ask them will they have the main cast voicing animals like the Japanese version. I'd bring up what Oda said in one of the SBSs:
I tell the voice actors to have fun by doing adlibs, and aside from the important and dramatic scenes, I'd like to see people having more fun with the anime itself. When you enjoy creating it, the people watching it feel the enjoyment as well. See you in the SBS next time around!!
I guess what I'm saying is, if I had a chance to be there, I'd tell them to make sure they don't go overboard with accuracy to please the fans, to make sure they have fun with it, because I think fans would appreciate THAT more.
@Kaimei-Karasuhebi:

It probably will :ermm:

Yeah. The best dubs are always done when the actors have fun with them. Like some veteran voice actor once said on his site, the only thing left after a series end, besides the money (duh!), it's the friendship built trough the work on said series. :P
Wow I wonder what they mean by "Premiere"? Just a clip? A collection of scenes in an opening? Dub theme song? A dub with the english actors just saying whatever?
Probably? You know deep down its a given…
Yup, there's 100% for sure going to be people complaining about something or other. And they'll all be silly things like "the voices aren't like the original" or nitpicky things like "they said the line wrong, it's not like in the fansubs!" OH! and I'm willing to be there'll be at least one dumbass saying "this is just as bad, if not worse, than the 4Kids dub!"
But those aren't the complainers that interest me. (After all those kind exist for every single dub ever) What does interest me however, will be the reaction of people who only know the dub, and nothing more…..Not that they matter much, but it'd still be interesting.
My theory, people only hate it in comparison with the Anime and Manga, just like people hate the Dubs compared to Subs
People don't hate dubs, people hate BAD dubs.

I wouldnt have been surprised, that whole thing was like an homage to Sj's Hajime No Ippo series(I believe Luffy is referred to as Hajime no Luffy as welll in one scene), and in that series there were lines about blacks being better boxers and having more spring in their step and being naturally more athletic or better at boxing or something. It made me lawl ,because it was racism, but like weird reverse racism where they were constantly praising that one race over everyone else like they were born with some special boxing powers or something. :P
Oh, sure, let me just waltz on down to the free camera store and pick up your fancy-pants recording devices to get your precious premiere in "good sound" and "high quality" video. You think I have money to buy all that!?
ROFL! My exact reaction to that post.
But those aren't the complainers that interest me. (After all those kind exist for every single dub ever) What does interest me however, will be the reaction of people who only know the dub, and nothing more…..Not that they matter much, but it'd still be interesting.
I've been curious about that as well. I've been gauging the YT comments for those Dub voice videos (the ones with the Funi Voice actors voicing dialog from other shows to give people an idea of what the characters will sound like. And most are definitely positive. Although I've seen a couple weird ones like "WHAT DID THEY DO TO SANJI?!?" and just general "Whoa! This new Zolo is going to be weird to listen to." Of course I think there's a section of the FMA fanbase excited to hear some of the favorite voice actors in here as well.
As for in general, yeah there's going to complaints no matter what even in some of the best work. However, not to sound high and mighty, but
I doubt they're going to be sending death threats to the Funi voice actors. And a good majority of the OP fanbase were treated to a terrible dub and are smart enough to know this is a step up.
Oh yeah and someone needs to ask about Chopper's forms. Will he have different voices ala 4Kids or one voice?
For those that want to know an opinion of someone that hardly knows One Piece, I have a friend that can help with that…
Anyway, as for questions, What will they be doing to broadcast version's Enel? With the religious stuff and all...
