No, that would be terrible. The archie comic was a dungheap.
I wouldn't even want it drawn from the fleetway comic, which was actually good, since, you know, sonic games don't need a plot.

Super Sonic Galaxy needs to show a whole level of gameplay. Unless there was footage out already.

Eh. The way I see it anything is a pick up from stuff that appeared lately; I didn't even look at that knight game, its just too bizarre to see Sonic with a sword.

Guessing they saw how good Unleashed look on 360/PS3 so they decided to use the Hedgehog engine for this.
Yep its very colorful and nice to look at.
@Superbear:

You think that's bizarre when the Archie comics did that sorts of crazy bullshit all the time.
You know, seeing the game play from Sonic Colors, it doesn't look like such a bad game.

And the circle begins again.
Don't expect any recent Sonic game that isn't Sonic 4 to be remotely good.

The leaked videos of Sonic 4 looked significantly worse than Sonic Colors.
But Sonic 4 has the possible advantage of allegedly being in the vein of the good Sonics.
Whereas Sonic Colours is just more ''new'' Sonic. And we all know how how that goes.

Any new Sonic game in 2D or 3D that's not exactly like how the 2D games originally were is going to wind under the same scrutiny

The newest ones are a marked improvement over the "entire game" leaked videos. I actually feel better about Sonic 4 being half decent then I did four months ago(level design is still an issue though).
I have no hopes for colours.
its so…
colorful

Let's do the time warp again!

How many of the stages HAVE they shown?
And when I finally play Unleashed (most likely this week), I'll see if I'll give Colors a shot or not.
They've never shown more then the first stage, but a playthrough of the entire game was leaked onto various video sites and mocked a few months ago.
That's when it went back in for more work. Since then just the one video has come out, showing improved physics but still duff level design.
No, that would be terrible. The archie comic was a dungheap.
I disagree. The plot was good, the writing was cheesy, bad, and poorly executed. In the hands of a good writer they can make it work. Hell, the comic was loosely based on the plot from sonic 1, they just added a cast of horrible characters and made Sonic "cool".
What's wrong with:
Sonic whatever one:
Eggman has taken over most of the zones, kidnapping all lifeforms and transforming them into his ever-growing unstoppable robot army. After Sonic's parents are kidnapped and turned into robots, Sonic fights to put a stop to eggman and make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else.
Then you throw the older characters back in the mix.
Sonic whatever 2:
Tails' father is a genius engineer whose been working for eggman to ensure Tails doesn't get transformed. After Tails' father finishes his job, eggman breaks his promise and tries to kidnap them both. Sonic shows up in time just to save tails. They have to get to eggman in a race against the clock to save Tails' father from being transformed.
Sonic whatever 3:
Knuckles shitty plot that's always rehashed.
If they could do something like that, without fucking up the gameplay, the Sonic world could be… interesting.
I wouldn't even want it drawn from the fleetway comic, which was actually good, since, you know, sonic games don't need a plot.
I'm glad you're not a game developer. Of course games don't need a plot, but they're nice to have, since they get the player more involved in the game.
Plots are icing on the cake, but like icing, it's become something… that's expected.
Oh god the amazing plot on those mario games.
Oh god the amazing plot on those mario games.
I said games don't need plots, they're just expected.
You know…when people started expecting a plot from games like Sonic, that's when we got the AMAZING plots of Princess Elise.
When I want a plot, I don't look toward Sonic. When I want relaxing speed, platforming, and kick ass music, I look for Sonic. Sonic 1-3 at least.
Plot isn't the icing on the cake. Plot is just the sprinkles put on the cake. Sometimes they are needed and make the cake lovely. Other times, it's just tacky and useless.
I said games don't need plots, they're just expected.
And what happens when those expectations aren't met?
Have you ever read a gaming review?
usually the the reviewer, if the game is good enough that it holds it's own, will say something like:
"The game doesn't have much of a plot, but the game doesn't suffer for it."
It depends on how much the game tries to force the plot down your throat I suppose.
going with that same shitty cake metaphor I used.
If the cake is good enough, it doesn't need icing. Someone's gonna say there's no icing, but they'll eat the cake and enjoy it regardless.
but just because something has "remained the same" for so long doesn't mean you shouldn't try something different.
I enjoyed, Mario and Luigi, and the Paper Mario Series.
Those are RPG's where a deeper plot is actually required
Platformers do not need deep plots. One line is enough.
"Robotnik is trying to take over Mobius again"
There's your plot.
Seriously, I think the deepest the plot of the early Sonic games ever got was:
"Dr. Robotnik is trying to take over the world this time by building a giant Death Star ripoff. Also, he's instigating a feud between Sonic and Knuckles."
Really, depending on the situation, you don't even have to explain any of the plot in the game. They have these nifty little things called instruction manuals where, in case you didn't quite get the plot throughout the course of the game, you can look it up there.
I just don't think a GOOD plot would hurt it.
But then again, when they TRIED the best plot they came up with was terrible.
I find it odd, that Sonic Battle had the best plot out of all of them, and it was almost flat out retarded.
"We found a robot that we know nothing about. Let's feed it Chaos emeralds, and teach it all of our techniques. There's no way this could potentially backfire on us should Eggman get a hold of him."
But for what it was worth, the ending was pretty sad and pretty good.
It also had the best character interactions. Too bad the game was mediocre.
It seemed as though Sonic Team even realized this, so they brought emerl back as Gemerl and put him in advance 3.
You know…when people started expecting a plot from games like Sonic, that's when we got the AMAZING plots of Princess Elise.
I remember when Elise kissed Sonic, my pants got wet all of a sudden.
I went to check and my penis was crying tears of blood.
I then proceeded to give my copy of Sonic the Hedgehog a Viking funeral.

Sonic '06 isn't worthy of a viking funeral. You should've just broke it half, burned it with a blowtorch and then pissed on the ashes.
Well the viking funeral came after throwing the disc into a wood chipper.
I don't know if this was already said in this thread, but a new Sonic Riders was announced for Kinect.
I don't understand why they do a third part, I mean did the other two parts sell that well? :getlost:
Gameplay video:
w1kFJdxjm2c
You basically drive a straight road.
Meh, really did prefer the first Sonic Riders.
EDIT: Watched more of it. It makes you look like an idiot.
That guy 'swimming' is funny.
Sonic '06 is utter shit for the very fact of Sonic bestiality. And I saw videos of it on Youtube and it seemed like there was hardly any gameplay. More focused on story. They didn't have a very good balance in that game like they had in previous games.
For example, Sonic Heroes was pretty good, and hardly had any storyline.
They've never shown more then the first stage,
<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="

Officially, only the first stage was shown.
Unofficially, I've seen the entire rancid game, pre-extra work done.
Also that trailer looks terrible.
You know, while the gameplay is the same dull 3D sonic crap, the graphics really have to be commended.
I don't really care how much polish they put on the turd.
Raise your hand if you believed either new Sonic game would be any good an be counted among the gullible.
Sonic 4 will be the best sonic game in fifteen years.
Not sure if it'll be any better then mediocre though.
Colours will doubtless be another travesty.
Mediocre is really the best a Sonic game can realistically hope to achieve nowadays.
Does anyone else find it kind of hilarious that there's still an arbitrary 99 ring limit when the levels have proven to contain much more than that?

Looks decent, just like the first video. I could see this getting average reviews from 7s to perhaps even 8/10s. People and gaming site editors playing it at E3 also seemed to like it (at least more than Sonic 4, which looks better now, but still half assed…), even though the controls look kind of clunky...
Camera still looks poor.
I was talking about sonic 4.
I misread then, sorry.
@Hiroy:
Camera still looks poor.
Camera will probably be adjustable as it has been in every other Sonic game in the past.
Raise your hand if you believed either new Sonic game would be any good an be counted among the gullible.
I think I had some vague hope when I thought Sonic 4 was going to be a remake of Sonic 1, but I was already writing it off by assuming "well, theres no way they can do it well themselves, so they're just going to remake part 1 with shiny graphics."
And there's been spatters of, when videos are posted of "well, it looks to have about the right feel. Hard to tell if the physics are really as bad as they seem to be…" But anyone who has cared enough to watch videos of the whole thing has apparently been really dissapointed.
Sonic Colors was obviously shit from the second it was announced.
I don't understand why they cant fork over the cash to re-hire SOMEONE from original Sonic Team and get their shit together.
I disagree. The plot was good, the writing was cheesy, bad, and poorly executed. In the hands of a good writer they can make it work. Hell, the comic was loosely based on the plot from sonic 1, they just added a cast of horrible characters and made Sonic "cool".

They're fucking cartoon animals that run around and jump on robots.
I started playing Unleashed today.
My God, it's not good. I fell asleep playing it.
@JERK:

I don't see how that plot is too deep in anyway.
Sonic 4 will be the best sonic game in fifteen years.
Sonic Advance 3 got great reviews. If you haven't tried the advance series you should.

It's still not better than Sonic and Knuckle + Sonic 3. I've played both. I do like Sonic Advance 3. But I'm with Darkstorm.
I have a feeling Sonic 4 WILL be at least better than Sonic Advance 3.
I don't see how that plot is too deep in anyway.
The fact that you're even thinking and caring beyond "cartoon animals fighting robots" is the entire problem.
And can people stop talking about the Advance like they;r anything but color in the lines 2D sonics?
So how about those 4kids Sonic Voice Actor huh guys?
