Hm, a new Fujishima Tales game? Well, my three favorites games in the series are the three that he did the designs for, so I'm all in favor of it. But what system…..
-
Ahahahahaha oh my god it never ends.
Pretty much
Some other news about Vesperia- Fujishima Tales
- Guy = long black hair, Girl = pink hair
- Guy uses Souryuurengazan ougi
- Tidal Wave spell is also shown
- Battles are 3D
- Yoshizumi is not the producer
-
Holy shit, that was fast! The Tales series is really picking up steam, especially after the failure of Tempest. Can't wait to hear more about this one.

ToS: KoR impressions
http://wii.ign.com/articles/843/843121p1.html
While the dungeon crawling component of the game didn't seem all that different from past Tales games, get into battle and you'll find some dramatic changes. This latest update to the Linear Motion Battle system keeps your character attacking on a single 2D line in a full 3D battle field. You lock yourself into a single enemy, pressing the minus button to toggle targets, then simply press A to make your character attack, or B plus a direction on the analogue stick to perform a special attack. You have the option of free movement over the battle field, although this usually isn't necessary.
Outside of a super attack move, activated with the Z button when you've adequately built up a super move gauge, the biggest addition to the battle system appears to be the ability to make monsters join your party. You're occasionally asked if you'd like to woo a beast that you've just defeated onto your side. Beasts who have made the conversion can be added to your battle party and used just like any other character during combat. In our play session, we managed to convert four beasts over to the good side; any more, and you're forced to clear out an older monster from your stable.
This Symphonia follow-up makes only minimal use of waggle, allowing you to shake the Wiimote and nunchuck in various ways to achieve special attacks, something that's probably better left to button presses. Instead of tapping the Wiimote, Bandai Namco has apparently decided to tap the Wii's added graphical abilities, as Knight of Ratatoskr looks quite a ways better than its predecessor.
The first Symphonia game was a huge hit amongst RPG-starved GameCube owners, and we expect no less from Knight of Ratatoskr amongst RPG-starved Wii owners. The game hits Japan in Spring, with an international release hopefully not too far out from there.
Good to hear that Waggle isn't going to hinder the gameplay.

TALES OF VESPERIA OFFICIAL TRAILER. LOOKS AWESOME!
-
Says it's being done by Team Symphonia, which handled Symphonia (duh) and Abyss. Chatter is that it must be PS3/360 based on the graphical quality… though why the fuck can't the company announce the system yet?
-
Yeah, it's annoying on their part to leave it ambiguous. Though I must say the trailer gave me Eternal Sonata vibes.
lol as if the world wasn't tired of Tales franchise it appears the fan translation of Phantasia PSX just got done. http://www.romhacking.net/trans/1214/
-
Holy crap WANT.
The main characer looks pretty badass for once.
-
Oh hey, it looks pretty cool. The art is pretty nice, and the graphics are actually good! I wonder if it's going to be an exclusive or will be out for both the 360 and the PS3.
-
I have never played one of these games oddly enough.
Any particular one I should start with/is the best?
-
Humm… Well, opinions do vary, but I'd start with Tales of Phantasia if you're going to play the Dejap translation rom, or the PSX version. The GBA version is balls. (Snes/PSX game)
If you have a gamecube Tales of Symphonia is nice. The story is cliche but it makes fun of itself constantly and the battle system is nice. If you have a PS2 Tales of the Abyss is pretty good. Legendia is pretty neat too.
-
@Mr.:
I have never played one of these games oddly enough.

I'd say start with Phantasia if you don't mind going a little old school. The PS1 and PSP versions are the best, but the Super Famicom version is also great.
Of the more recent ones, Symphonia and Abyss are my two favorites - I like Abyss more than Symphonia, but it's also a little more complicated and weirder with things like capacity cores, ougis, and other peripheral customization elements - Symphonia sticks to a slightly easier-to-get-into general interface (and is probably the most popular game in the series worldwide) so it's a better try for beginners.
-
I'll go for Symphonia then, is it the one with a really sad ending? I remember one of my friends saying that one of these games made him cry.
-
As far as games that are available now in English, I'd say go for Symphonia (GC) or Abyss (PS2). They're made by the same (best) dev. team as opposed to some other entries that are done by less competent teams. Some of the other games are very good too, but those are Jpn-only.
If you MUST play Phantasia, the PSP full-voice edition is the best edition of the game in existence, but personally I find it to be an outdated experience. A lot of people will tell you it's the best but this is coming purely from nostalgia and not any sort of rational comparison.
-
If you're going to play Phantasia, play the SNES version. Its version of "Take up the Cross" is the best >_< Symphonia is my favorite though, one of my favorite RPG's of all time, in the top 5.

Eh… I didn't think Symphonia's ending was that sad - Abyss and Destiny 2 had some real tear-jerkers as endings, though.
-
Well, a Wii sequel was announced a while back. I really liked the GC version, personally, so hopefully the Wii version will be up to my expectations… Not much info yet... but so far the images look really great.

Theres some info, and IGN has a few basic images
-
I never got past the 2nd level of the first one so i am not sure if ill play this one
-
2nd Level? What the hell are you talking about?
Oh, and Moria: http://apforums.net/showthread.php?t=13880
-
I still need to beat Abyss. I kept getting lost riding this god damn boat heading for god knows what and I end up giving up.
-
@raj:

Oh, and Moria: http://apforums.net/showthread.php?t=13880
the level where you go up the tower to defeat the boss which was the Fire hounds…(EDIT:Ktugach ) so 4th level ,second temple
-
The new hero for Vesperia reminds me of Veigue of Rebirth. He screams "angsty boy".
And who says it can't be on the Wii just because of the graphics?
Mentioning Wii Tales of games…It seems that ToS:KR has no free-run ability. I have a feeling that Abyss has spoiled me. Free run is love. :< Especially when you play as a mage, like me XD.
-
@Mr.:

I Say go with eternia for starters, that ranks number one for me easily
-
@Bee's:

The trailer video (which contains many scenes rendered in what can only be the game's graphical engine) is in 720p, which is higher than what the Wii supports.

Tales of Symphonia: KoR Jump Festa Trailer. At first I was a bit upset that this title was treading more in the spin off area, but whatever. If it's as fun as Symphonia was to play then I have no really problem with it.
Yeah, if I had to guess about Vesperia I'd say Xbox 360 timed exclusive ala Eternal Sonata, unless this is a part of the Namco/Sony joint venture. But yeah, if the Knights looked remotely like Vesperia I would have thought it'd make it on the Wii, still though. Too many Tales.
-
I've always had a sneaking suspicion that it was headed toward spin-off territory. There was just something (don't ask me what) about the very first footage released that struck me as fishy, but I guess if it was a legitimate sequel they would have numbered it like Destiny 2.
-
Oooo…Regal finally took off those handcuffs
-
Nice trailer! I loved ToS, so if this comes out in America, I'd be one happy Wii owner! I like the graphics in it, as well. Lloyd's role in this looks…odd. I can't really tell if he'll be good or bad in this game. I guess we'll find out eventually, though.

'If this comes out in America'? Symphonia is basically the highest selling and most popular Tales game in the states, I don't see why they wouldn't.
-
I was embittered by the return of Collete, but soon I was brought to peace by the return of Regal.
-
I still need to beat Abyss. I kept getting lost riding this god damn boat heading for god knows what and I end up giving up.
Oh! Most people get stuck here.
Go to the brown continent and go into the little lake-like thing it has, and instead of going to the whirlpool, turn and you'll see a cave.
But before, you might want to go to Sheridan port (the port on the brown continent), and talk to an old man you get Natalia's best (and only good arcane) arte.
TOS:KoR looks very interesting. I was having cold feet, but it's nice to see everyone but Kratos is back. =D
-
KoR is looking kind of strange… I really hate the fact that Llyod's being super mysterious. It ruins his character even moreso. Seeing Regal is back makes me want to choke someone, since I hated his character with a passion ("I must atone for killing my girlfriend... even though she begged me to kill her and would've gone insane if I hadn't.") Hopefully Raine'll be fucking up stupid people once more.
-
Oooo…Regal finally took off those handcuffs
Hopefully he'll still only use his feet in battle.
KoR has nice graphic, but I'm so used to seeing cel-shaded Lloyd that I won't like them too much… Ah well, hopefully this game will have a good cameo battle and hopefully moar Abyssion.
-
-
I sure hope so! A Tales game for the 360 might be the JP RPG I've been waiting for.
-
@raj:
Vesperia for 360 confirmed?
http://sakuraba.cocoebiz.com/discography/
Tales of Vesparia (XB360)¹
If this is true, then good for th 360. I don't have any of the new-gen systems yet, but if Vesperia is a 360-exclusive then my chances of getting a 360 are that much higher.
-
Damn. Oh well. If it is a 360 exclusive, I'm not getting Vesperia. It'd be the only game for the system that I'd want, so it'd be a waste of money.
And KoR is looking…better than I had hoped it to be. I'm loving the character models. And as much of a Kratos fan as I am, I'm rather glad it appears he's been left out of the game.
From what I can gather, perhaps the two main characters blame Lloyd for something that happened in Symphonia. Like...maybe they had parents or relatives killed when a town or ranch got destroyed by Lloyd's group.
-
I was embittered by the return of Collete, but soon I was brought to peace by the return of Regal.
Same here.
The protagonist sounds a bit whiny, though. I do hope it gets released over here too.
-
While I am excited for KoR, the new female immediately loses points since she seems to be voiced by Kugimiya Rie. Not like I'm playing the Japanese version anyways. The male protagonist looks fine. Honestly, I never did care for Lloyd's goofy red outfit. It's also good to see there are other Regal haters out there
Reminds me I still need to beat Symphonia among the million other games I have to beat.
Le sigh.
-

Apparently, the parents of those two characters were killed when the Kharlan Tree rampaged. (Which was caused by Lloyd's group) So maybe it has something to do with that.
-
The plot thickens.
-
The plot does indeed thicken. But you know…this isn't helping my opinion of the main characters much.
Here's hoping there's better characters outside of these main two. Like that apparent fusion of Zelos and Jade.

If said fusion goes beyond looks, this could possibly be the greatest video game known to man.
Aside from Godhand.
-
Right now, nothing is outweighing the massive negative of that horrible, horrible lead actress's voice.

Thank fucking god I'm not the only person that thinks this. Her voice is literal torture to me. Doesn't help that she sounds exactly like Japanese Colette, or any girl that age in these kind of games.
-

This is true. I like Zelos and Jade greatly, so if this fusion is beyond looks…my goodness. It'll be like watching those Viva! Tales of... skits, but with only one announcer instead of two :p.
And as bad as the main girl's voice actress is, it could be worse. She could sound like Misa from Death Note. D:

Hey now. Hirano Aya > Kugimiya Rie but that's not saying much.
I don't understand. She's using her tsundere loli voice, but the main girl a loli she is not???
Presea >>>>>>>> :3
-
I just could not stand how Hirano Aya sounded when she played Misa. But I loved her Konata voice. I'd like her more if she used that voice more often.
But mentioning Viva! Tales of…(even though this is completely different) I found that someone is planning to subtitle the stories from Tales of Fandom Vol. 2. The subbed prologue can already be found on YouTube.
But it'll definately take some time.
