i always figured thats one of the reasons he became a shichibukai so that he didnt have to deal with annoying flies coming to attack him and letting focus only on the swordsmen that come to challange him just my guess tho.

We have no real proof that shanks 's main figthing style is swordmanship, we know that he have top skill swordmanship but we haven't seen him going all out , kuroobi used a sword to attack genzo , with one move he slashed all his body .

It's not because a person walk around carrying a sword that his MAIN fighting style is swordman ship , alucard from hellsing is able to fight with a sword , his main fighting style is gunfighting , tetsuhito kagiroi from tenjo tenge was using a sword to fight but his main fighting style was using is steel body to fight tekkai kempo style associating that with his demonic power , another character from tenjo tenge sohaku nagi was walking around with a sword , he beat the living shit out of 3 fighters who were no pushovers without getting a little particle of blood or even dust on his white suit : the main power of this guy is not swordmanship or martial art , the guy is spend his whole time sitting on his ass in the darkness of his mansion doing magic .Why am i bringing those exemples ?
It's because you can't maintain the fact that because character x used sword/martial art/magic once then his main fighting style is what he used back then . If he use it all the time he appear then yes that's his main style but otherwise it's not , you can only assume it is until the character himself prove it right or wrong .
Mihawk is the strongest SWORDMAN meaning that he is the strongest among all those who use sword as their MAIN style .
We don't know if shanks MAIN style is using a sword , all we know is that he is pretty good with a sword and that's all .If the story prove that shanks ONLY style is swordmanship ( which i higly doubt ) then mihawk is stronger , if it's not then shanks is stronger because he is not relaying on sword ONLY , even without his sword he would still be dangerous .

While Whitebeard may be more than just a spear user, I personally think it awesome that someone actually uses a spear in the series than another sword person. Besides that, the fighting capabilities of Shanks and Whitebeard may be more than what meets the eye.
But look at Benn Beckman. He carries around a gun, but he has a rather…. unorthodox.... fighting style.

So you're saying people can't have a secondary weapon that is a sword? As Ace posted before, Ace is clearly carrying some sort of dagger weapon. Is he using it? no. We need to see more of Shanks before we can definitely say that his main fighting style is a sword.

When the five old men found out that Shanks was making contact with WB, they were scared as hell, but then one of them said that Shanks isn't the type that would try to take over the world.
I think that's why the Yonkou are being kept in balance by the WG and Shichibukai, the Yonkou don't really want to destroy the WG, unlike the revolutionaires.
Also, about when Shanks lost his arm, remember when WB asked what happened? Shanks' answer was that he ''bet it to a new era''.
Anyways, I think that Mihawk is the better swordsman since Zoro's goal would be worthless otherwise, but I think that there's a chance that Shanks isn't a swordsman mainly, I mean like WB we've only seen him use a spear, but no one thinks that he fights like that. At least from what I've seen.

Isn't it quite obvious that aces dagger is meant for emergencies? Some of you people are so shallow minded here let me give you and example.
Unknown bounty hunter has been studying ace for quite some time knows his moves and knows he is a fire logia user. The bounty hunter decides to wear a fire proof suit so all of aces attacks will be nullified.
What will ace do now? I know maybe he'll use that dagger since he cannot harm this guy with his logia powers.

I state that once again, even if Shanks is a swordsman, it doesn't make Mihawk stronger. Unfortunately when you're fighting for a title you can lose as many times as you want. If you win even once, you gain said title because you beat the best. Mihawk said himself Shanks could keep up against him, they probably tied time and time again, with Mihawk finally winning once, thus making him the strongest swordsman in the world. Since he won't fight Shanks again because of his lack of arm, we won't know who really is stronger until he gets over that.

Saloma, I do not understand what you are trying to say. You said that if Shanks is a swordsman, that doesn't mean Mihawk is stronger, yet Mihawk is the Worlds Strongest Swordsman. Even if Shanks and Mihawk tied several times, obviously Mihawk was better the last time so he IS stronger than Shanks, even if my a small margin.
She means that since we haven't seen Shanks and Mihawk bout, she is assuming that they haven't dueled in awhile due to the lack of arm, giving Mihawk title of World's strongest swordsman.
To answer your question Saloma, Unfortunately, some of our opinionated members tend to lose their temper, which leads to flaming, which leads to trolling. Just seems much much worse with no spoiler leakage.

No. you fail, I state that Shanks and Hawkeye's are most likely still equal but you say Shanks is stronger with no proof.

Oi, this is getting stupid, and so loaded with speculation and maybe's that it's starting to overflow, and pour out of the top of my monitor.
I'll just say this before I go; Mihawk has shown enough of his skill for me to believe he's stronger, as well as Oda's propping up of his abilities, unless Shanks shows otherwise. If I see a new character, or one who hasn't shown their skill, I'm not going to immediately assume they're on par with one of the series' most powerful characters just because they've got a title and a reputation? Hell, anyone here believe Rob Lucci could take on Crocodile or Enel? I mean, he came in later in the story, and had quite a reputation. I go by what I see, not by what I can come up with. Shanks never showed any signs of being a jack-of-all-trades, or signs of Mihawk having any kind of support from the WG, other than them looking the other way in regards tow hat he does. He does what they say, and nothing farther than that has been shown.
I go by what Oda shows me, not by what theories I can come up with. Unless Shanks proves to be stronger than Mihawk, I'm gonna have to give it up to the man who fights on his own, decimates armadads, cuts the elements themselves (whatever that means =P), and earned the title of the "strongest swordsman in the world".
