The badassitude of that whole scene just went away with the voice overs… I mean in the original when Luffy was walking towards Zoro, Sanji, and Ussop the scene looked so badass but this version is so... un-badass.

I think the badassitude was giving by the music and the serious silence. The "but we can't do this alone Nami!" line really irks me. It's kinda corny too.
-
Well the dialouge during the march to Arlong Park was fairly accurate… but I didn't like the BGM they used. The original was just... so much cooler.
In fact I'm listening to it now.
-
I thought this episode was pretty on par with the japanese version. The only major cut was Nami stabbing herself, but that is understandable. The diolouge was pretty good.

Exactly, that's one of my favorite moments in One Piece. Luffy only said "Let's go!" and they were like "Right!" and just walked to that kick ass BGM. The dub kinda ruined it. I had a feeling the Nami scene would be edited the way it was.
-
Meh I still would have preferred it if Luffy would have kept his mouth shut while walking towards Zoro, Sanji, and Ussop. In the original where Luffy just said "Let's go." and the three responding "Aye!" Just made the straw hat's look incredibly badass… all the talking just sucked the badassitude out of it... well that and the lack of the original BGM's as well but heck if that could be fixed.
-
On the bright side, they didnt say "Lets a golo Zolo!" Namis VA is really doing good this arc. Sanji…still sucks but he sounded a tiny bit better without the crappy accent. I hate the way Genzo stretches words, like Nayvy.
-
Did they cut the Nami stabbing herself compleatly, or did they edit some part of it?
Now Nami will have a bandege on her arm for no reason. 4Kids Nami is a hypocondrach. -
I was actually expecting Genzo or one of the villagers to say "What are you planning to do with that rubber knife?!" when she was threatening them.
-

 I would have laughed my ass off.
-
Yeah but what would be even funnier is if they had left in the Nami stabbing scene except they did make it a rubber knife and everytime she pressed the rubber knife against her arm it would sound like one of those pet squeaky toys.
-
I can just imagine 4Kids slapping themselves for not thinking of that.
-
I missed most of it….but I caught the ending.
Nami's va did an amazingly good job...
...but everyone else sank the ship.
Luffy's va really needs to go, things would be so much better without her.
And the dialouge.
"NoONE Needs to dO thinGs AloNe!!!!"
"Lets get those oversized fishsticks!"And of course they cut the shoulder stabbing.
-
Can someone fill me in on what happened today?
I missed it cuz of Soccer which I came back from :(
I'm gonna end up missing the next 4 weeks too.Thx :)
-
Nami's VA is probably the best on the cast.
I thought Genzo was alright… even though I hate that weird accent.
I only saw a small part, where the monye is confiscated by Nezumi and Nami confronts Arlong, and Genzo rallies the villagers. After that I had to go to the grocery store.
Man, no matter how cheesy the acting is, this reminded me of how great the Arlong saga really is. All of the trauma and heartbreak, it's amazing.
-
Sometimes the dub has better music than the original. Some examples are Dragonball Z, DragonBall GT, and Full Metal Alchemist. But then again, those were all made by FUNimation. So yeah, whatever.
The FMA music was exactly the same. >.>
-
You know its weird, for every edit 4Kids does horribly. There at least one they do right or at the most, decently. Today's episode being one of the few. Not much happened here the way I saw it. They actully let Nojiko get shot and didn't cover it like they did with the whole "cap gun" scene with Shanks back at the beginning. Granted no blood was shown either but am surprised they let it slide. No stabbing scene but I guess we should be grateful for that as it could've been another crappy edit (though it begs the question where that wound on Nami's shoulder will come from later in the show unless they cover that up too.) I thought the whole "walk to Arlong Park" was done alright, they at least gave them some hero music. Though if one of you guys could wanna change my mind and drop a sound file of the original music of said part, that'll be cool too.
Only downside:
No "OF COURSE I WILL HELP YOU!". I really wanted to hear that line, but instead we get another dialouge change and ad-lib Sigh :(. -
The music meandered on through it all, ugh.
They didn't make those scenes feel any different from the rest.Well now the fights begin.
Bloodless fights with cut brutality. Oh boy. -
I thought the actual walk to Arlong Park was okay. But the scene before where they were getting ready to go wasn't good at all. Too much talking no music and well, corny dialogue too.
-
Today's was one of the better dubbed episodes. I gotta say I was stunned when they let Nojiko get shot. I thought for sure they were gonna edit or cut the scene but they did'nt. They also kept the blood on the money Nami collected though they did'nt point it out. And granted the walk to Arlong Park was'nt as good as the japanese one, but it was still handled preety good if you ask me. The only major cut was the Nami stabbing her arm bit, but we all knew that was gonna get the axe. Anyways, a good dubbed episode.
-
Yeah, Sanji sounded a bit clearer.
And kids can think those brown spots are burnt spots.
-
Well from the sounds of it this week ep was better than normbal(SP), I cant wait next eps with all the fighting.
-
Yeah, today was one of the better episodes. They left in Nojiko getting shot, minus any blood of course, and we all knew the stabbing would just be cut. I don't mind the clean edits that are perfectly understandable. Even though it still takes away from the story.
Of course there was some stupid dialogue. Like Usopp saying to Sanji "it's a good thing you don't have a thing for fish or else you'd be fighting on the other side". I don't know why they don't leave in "love cook". It's funny.BTW, I turned around and was talking to my dad (actually I was trying to explain the whole story in a nutshell because he was giving me a wierd look) during the part where Luffy says "we're going" and they all reply "right" or whatever…what exactly was the dialogue they used in that scene? In the dub, I mean.
-
Lemme guess then. Purple gun?

**Some stupid shit about helping people and how no one is alone.
All said in the usual hyperactive midgit clown dialect Luffys va does. -

 Seriously? That's lame. Exact quote, anyone? I don't mean to be a pain, I just like the know the exact level of lameness. ;)

I think it was green and purple.

I'm just happy that they let it stay a real gun, and not some cap gun. Plus they actually let it shoot someone.
-
Thanks for the transcript, Roman. That's definately not necessary, since he goes through a similar explanation later, except in a more Luffy-like way. I prefer Luffy being a no-bulls***, cut straight to the point kind of guy.
-
NOOOO! I seems like I missed a good episode :(
Can someone gimme the scene or a pic of the ACTUAL scene or both.
And tell me a site where u can get to screenshots.thx.
-
I made screenshots of the original scenes. I'm having trouble uploading large files lately for some reason. (ah, to have high speed). I'll let you know if and when I get them up.
-
yes i unrestand they took out the stabbing scene but over all a good episode
-
How much you wanna bet if Soccer mom's see the scene of Nojiko getting shot in the dub, they'll revolt.
-
I have'nt been on this topic in about two weeks but I nahve to say out of the last three eps. (Including todays) this is the baddest stuff in them.
Bellemere holding Arlong down w/ a shovel.
The stabbing edit.
The mouse looking Navy capatins VA, sounds like a shitty impression of Mickey Mouse.
Shocked when they left Nojiko getting shot, didn't expect that shit.
Arlong's english laugh pisses me off each time I hear it. -

So hang on, did Nami actually take out the knife (as people predicted it'd skip from her about to stab herself to Luffy grabbing her arm) or did they skip the knife completely?

Nami pulls out the knife in an attempt to stop the villagers from going to attack Arlong. That's when she pulls it out. She drops it after they leave. In the original, she picks it back up and stabs herself. In the dub, the knife ceases to exist after it is dropped.

It did'nt cease to exist, You can clearly see it on the floor when you see that back shot of Luffy and Nami.
-
It ceased to exist for any purpose. ;)

Hah! It's funny. There's a guy that I'm arguing with at Serebiiforums.net who says that Beyblade is superior to One Piece and that it's fact. He's also seen the original so it can't be the dub putting him off, though in my opinion, even dub One Piece is better than Beyblade.

Beyblade confused me… it's about spin tops. What the hell...

I'll admit I've never seen any Beyblade, but the concept stikes me as inane. Their fighting with tops for cying out loud. I don't care what powers they have or what they can do, or how spiffy looking the tops are, there still tops.
-
Beyblade is complete crap. Thing is, there are people out there who'd never realize how interesting characters like the One Piece cast are… >.<
They say they like anime, but anime revolves around the characters, yet they'll judge on things like art, and such, or how "LOL L33T DBZ LAZER W/ CHIBI EYEZ AND TEH FRUIT KIDDYNESS" style it is.
I seen someone call Bleach utter bullshit compared to (haha) Pokemon. I know Shounen Fighting type manga isn't always complex or super crafted from character to character all the time, but Beyblade is a kiddy commercial disguised as an anime. And its better than the king of jump manga, one piece?
Meh, serebii is an annoying place anyway. They can't even play the game properly and they like the anime... I go to smogon.com for a pokemon board. even if they're a bit morbid with their sense of humor
-
Well the majority of people like One Piece in those boards. It's just that one guy who says he has a bunch of freinds who'd prefer Beyblade over One Piece. He even said it was garbage and that Beyblade has better characters and story. And here's the one that got me…. He said it's more REAL. Really that guys an idiot. I would say that it's the dub that's pushing him away, but if you can like Bayblade, you can DEFENATLY see the One Piece dub. It's that bad.
-
Beyblade, the inbred cousin of Crush Gear.

wow. beyblade… has better characters and story...? wow... x.x dies eh. I wonder how old this guy is. He must be young to believe that. Especially since he said he had a bunch of friends who'd like it more.
Its certainly not more real... x.x Even if it didn't suck ass, its nowhere near real. One Piece I'm not going to say is anymore real than any other weird jump manga, but some of the characters are at least very believable.
Especially Usopp and Chopper. Smoker too, excluding the fact he let Luffy off... But even then a real commander would've done the same knowing all of whats been going on... So I don't see why this guy is so strong to his views

**Meh I agree the people on Serebii are complete Tards. Heck I even knew this when I attended the forums at Pokemopolis.
I appreciate Shounen anime's and such because of character development and what not. Anime's like Bleach, One Piece, Shaman King, and Naruto are GOOD because they DO have all the elements of a story.
Beyblade is a crappy show. I mean seriously fighting with TOPS?! What's so interesting about that? Even pokemon is more interesting and I actually still LIKE pokemon. Heck even Yugioh is great despite it being all dueling and such. Beyblade isn't anything special at all. In fact I feel it's a lame attempt at advertising. Heck at least Yugioh HAS a story too it. Beyblade… well doesn't.
