@Sandai:
But going a bit crazy over forgetting one particular character is a bit much.
Agreed.
Seriously, i can't see why should i change my opinion of a series, a movie, a book or whatever based on what the creator remembers about it. That doesn't change anything about DB for me; but then again, i was never too much into obsessive overanalyzing any work of fiction. -
I don
t see how it
s going crazy. If anything I think it made me realize how crazy I was. In fact, now that I think about it, it gave me a healthy dose of reality. Im not angry that he forgot a major character in his series, that
s exactly why I said it`s a positive thing. Instead of thinking WWTD (what would toriyama do?) I started to think for myself what the series meant to me, recognize its (many) faults and learn not to take myself so goddamn seriously over a cartoon and comic book.Toriyama didn
t say so it doesnt count
But Toriyama didn
t write the daiz himself so it doesnt mean anything
Toriyama didn
t work on GT so we cant enjoy what enjoyable parts exist of it
This movie isn
t close to the series and isnt what Toriyama would want
etc. etc.
Bullshit.
DB is like….it
s the best mistake ever made in manga. Here
s this graphic designer that just started doodling shit that people enjoyed and ended up inspiring a generation of artists. -
Well put, Greg. And was kinda my point too.
I like the series, but I try to keep a level head and not over-analyze it. I'll probably end up enjoying the movie just like I enjoy GT.

s this graphic designer that just started doodling shit that people enjoyed and ended up inspiring a generation of artists.I know it doesn't need to be said but… Bravo, Sir! I became a fan of the series when I was 7, long before I had internet or knew about things such as anime and even the thought of "someone made this?!". I really enjoyed the series cause I did, and even after internet finished enjoying it not caring what Toriyama really thought.
Toriyama wasn't a huge inspiration for me, Dragonball Z was. Not the manga, the anime. The series, nothing to do with the man behind it. I admit today I see Oda as God and tons of the things you mentioned, but I honestly think he deserves it. If Oda ends up like Toriyama in his later days, that's fine. That wont stop One Piece from being one of the series to have the largest impact (aside from Dragonball Z) on my life and especially my imagination.
-
there were enjoyable parts about GT?
What's so great about watching every single character getting the crap beat out of them except for pan (well, she did once thank god, the entire story of GT is HER FAULT) and Goku?
The ONLY thing that was good about GT was SSJ 4 Gogeta, and Goku's unexplainable Spirit Bomb fiasco on Omega Shenron that upset the balance of the DB universe.
you know, the whole Base Goku>SSJ 4 Gogeta>SSJ 4 Goku>Base Goku?
I personally could give a rats crap who wrote it, if it sucks I HATE IT. They brought Uub back for 3 episodes and then "Killed" him. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT? THAT WAS A WASTE OF 3 EPISODES. ARRGH~~
calms
So are they gonna acknowledge that Goku can turn into a monkey in this? (if he can)
-
Good things about GT:
- The Black Star balls hunt had a very humorous, light-hearted, old-DragonBall feel to it.
- Ledgic
- Para Para Bros (they were even awesome in the dub)
- Super Saiyan 4; You gotta admit the GT episode where Goku first reached it and was wailing on Babi was badass. But just for that first episode or two. Then the animation turned to crap.
- Even though it made no sense at all, the action in the Super 17 fight was great.
- Gogeta's back.
- Ending, while confusing, was very touching and emotional, and felt more like a fitting finale than "oh hey I'm leaving with Uub bye."
So are they gonna acknowledge that Goku can turn into a monkey in this? (if he can)
Just a few rumors, but nothing more. We know that the moon and an eclipse factor into the story somehow, though.
-
- Ending, while confusing, was very touching and emotional, and felt more like a fitting finale than "oh hey I'm leaving with Uub bye."
Wouldn't have been the case if that hadn't led to GT.
-
I thought Goku leaving with Uub was fitting enough. Goku went through the series from a boy to a man while being a hero, and then a new boy shows up and Goku performs the passing of the hat. Yes, it was rather anti-climatic, but I doubt any battle would have made a better ending.
-
The fact that goku took Uub was very important though, Goku finally found what HE wanted. A person who would look after earth after he died.
But GT shat in Goku's face and said "Fuck that, hell naw, you don't get to rest in peace. What do think this is? That's right! It's GOKU TIME! What? Vegeta, he's unexplicably weaker than ever, until an alien gets in his body, then he's stronger, and then weaker again. So get to work you punk, we're gonna work you until there's nothing left for you to do but wither away…. literally."
^GT in a nut shell.
It's like... everyone in the series forgot what the hell they could do, except Goku.
Gohan: "Oh why can I go SJ? Why can't I just beast EVERYONE by using elder Kai's unlocked potential?!"
All Saiyan's: "Wait, Why can't we beat a slightly stronger 17? (before he went into hell form they tried to stop him, but couldn't?) even though we're all super saiyan, and Vegeta's SJ 2 but in actuality stronger than SSJ 3 Goku?"
calms
Whatever, hopefully Goku beats the crap out of piccolo by going ape or something. I'll laugh my butt off.
And Maybe Mai will have a dog named shuu or something. XD
-
You're forgetting Piccolo who'd been rolled up into a carpet in tossed in the bay.
-
Pyromonki gets kudos for the GT rants. Bravo
-
Wouldn't have been the case if that hadn't led to GT.
Actually, the ending was written with full knowledge that it was leading into GT so consider that as nothing more than food for thought but one thing I like about the DB ending is that it
s true to character. It
s totally like Goku to just be like,Bye! Not gonna see you for a few years so I can go fight someone strong.
If Toriyama understood anything about his character, it was that aspect and the comic ending in no way denies him that.However….
The GT ending is epic. And much along my opinion of what APPEARS to be the film we
re getting, the DB ending was what we got, while the GT ending was the one fans deserved even though much of it was preceeded by a shit-fest. It was a great way to say goodbye to everyone in their respective places and despite much of GT having ooc problems, that finale didn
t betray a single character`s persona. -
I'm wanting to buy the Dragonball series on DVD from FUNimation. Their Z-Store ain't got shit, but Amazon has quite a few boxsets. However I can't seem to find one of the first 26 episodes, this is the earliest I can find: http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Ribbon-Army-Saga/dp/B00008976E/ref=pd_sim_d_10
KidMark still doesn't own the rights to the first 13 episodes after 13 years do they?
-
Shouldn't it be character seeing as how Goku was the only one that mattered in the end like always.
As an author, writer, creator, etc. I think it'd be selfish to ignore the armada of unforgettable characters created in the series. I mean, you can even see from recent JUMP polls that characters like Krillin are just as beloved and well remembered despite playing second (or would it be third?) fiddle to Goku. In the ending given by GT we were able to revist and give closure to a number of those stories while getting a hint at where they were heading so we could use our imaginations as we so pleased.
-
Pan is forgettable as impossible as that may sound.
-
Haha, well I wasn't talking about Pan so much as I was Krillin, Roshi, Piccolo and the Saiyan/Halfling clan.
-
KidMark still doesn't own the rights to the first 13 episodes after 13 years do they?
Yes they do, and either they're being stingy with them, or FUNi isn't offering enough money.
I'm hoping they manage to work something out. If FUNi plans to release DB Season Sets after they're done with the last couple of Z and 2 for GT, they're gonna need those episodes.
-
Good things about GT:

Didnt like that, the quest to get them back was boring -
Ledgic
?
- Para Para Bros (they were even awesome in the dub)
The music guys? yeah they were cool
- Super Saiyan 4; You gotta admit the GT episode where Goku first reached it and was wailing on Babi was badass. But just for that first episode or two. Then the animation turned to crap.
Yea
- Even though it made no sense at all, the action in the Super 17 fight was great.
My favorite part of GT
- Gogeta's back.
Hell yes
- Ending, while confusing, was very touching and emotional, and felt more like a fitting finale than "oh hey I'm leaving with Uub bye."
not really, to me anyways
responded in bold
GT was ok, wasnt better than DB or Z tho. Didnt suck…just ok...

DB is like….it
s the best mistake ever made in manga. Here
s this graphic designer that just started doodling shit that people enjoyed and ended up inspiring a generation of artists.Dude, I totally feel you on the taking cartoons too seriously deal and I know you're proud of your transition from rabid fanboy, but it bothers me a little how you write Toriyama off as an uncaring, hobby artist. Well, maybe you're not but that's how a lot of your posts read. Sure he may not enjoy it or remember as much about it as most artists, but that doesn't make his style or storytelling ability any less admirable. DB was hardly a mistake considering Toriyama was much less a graphic designer and much more a hardcore manga artist by the time he began writing it. I also don't think forgetting a few characters is enough to make me doubt any personal investment he may have had in his work and characters.
Haha, oh look, I'm sounding exactly like the people you were talking about….but seriously, I don't think you should take your attitude to the extreme. As if he deserves no real credit for the influence he's had. We all know he could probably care less about a live action movie or is possibly even looking forward to it with interest, but that doesn't mean nobody should care. I can think of too many artists that don't understand the value of their own work. All I'm gonna say is that I probably wont enjoy a generic action movie with the Dragonball name tacked on to it and something as ridiculous DB is probably best left in 2D.
And for the record, there was next to nothing enjoyable about GT...except for maybe the ending.
-
Im sorry but..
WTF?
-
Yeah, you have some kind of issue with cosplay?

^ That's cosplay.

I was addressing Tsugumi.
Good show though, huh?

Then he forgot who goddamn Tao Pai Pai was and shattered that image.
I stil think he was joking.Kinda what Oda does sometimes in the SBS.

What ive been saying. When theyd redo it DB style, people would complain that they had no ideas. When they tried to make it more modern, people complained that its modern. You just cant win. :getlost:
And yeah, that ending was great,it realy moved me,unlike what DBZ ended on.

Yeah, cause watching that for five, six straight episodes in the canon series is ALOT beter….....:getlost:
-
at least we know theres no way this can be worse than the He-Man live action movie

How could they complain about lack of originality when not everyone has even seen Dragonball.
And yeah, that ending was great,it realy moved me,unlike what DBZ ended on
If wasn't really supposed to move you in DBZ Goku flys off into the horizon to train his successor in, GT Goku rides away with the Dragon & the DragonBalls which within self isn't really all that moving.

@Sandai:
If I wanna laugh about something bad I'll laugh about something like this
nJlz8gT4w2E
The only time a bad movie can be considered funny is when someone sees it and complains about wasting X amount of time or X amount of money seeing it.
Batman and Robin is a example for ya'. When I say this movie, I laughed hard.

Pan is an unforgivable BITCH as impossible as that may sound.
fixed.
Greg's right though, the whole Goku saying good bye right before he died was a nice touch.
But it also made Old Man Krillin the strongest fighter in the universe. XD
Bitchin.
here's the youtube clip of goku killing Omega with the spirit bomb, his WTF face was priceless when he couldn't hurt goku.
It matched my face. XD

Sandai-I was talking about the things in between of that scene-cant remember the word now.

I am not a "Japanese crazed" but, I thought the Japanese was more epic.

Slideshow-thats the word I was looking for.
-
I cant stand origina Japanese db/z/gt…ill just watch uncut dub
-
-
Well that's Ok, different taste. But, you gotta admit the Japanese music sounds much better.
-
Well that's Ok, different taste. But, you gotta admit the Japanese music sounds much better.
Can't wait until the Season Sets get into the Buu sage, which is the only part of the dub that I can stand the voices/dialogue of, so that I can finally make use of their "dub with Japanese BGM" option. Up 'til now I haven't been able to stomach anything but the Japanese track.
-
@Sandai:
no thanks Bob but i will say i think you > Drew Carey
Well that's Ok, different taste. But, you gotta admit the Japanese music sounds much better.
True but it sounds extreamly dated for obvious reasons (the show is pretty old). If it was same tune, modern technology it would be better to me
-

Well not all things are in desperate need of an upgrade like the older Star Wars films
[oh walk away]. -
actually, IDK, sometimes the original music is fitting, and sometimes it's this weird xylophone crap that sucks ass.
Dan Dan is the most bitchin' song though. I only wish they used it for DBZ instead of head cha la, I hate that song, and it makes no sense. >_>
The original voices are okay, they act way better than their dub counter parts, but their voices are so high pitched it's grating. None of the men sound like men (well, the ones I care about), and that bothers me…. a lot.

Don't they both not make any sense and personally Dan Dan Kokoro would sound out of place for DBZ it syncs better with GT.

The exact opposite of the bullcrap people apply to Zoro
