So done with Vol. 2 and a good chunk into Vol. 3. Man I hope Sanji is better.
-
Better? I don't think Sanji's voice can get any more amazing than it was in movie8.
-
@Yuugi's:
According to the FUNimation podcast I was right, they're in the early thirties of recording OP.
Based on what was on screen and the script they showed, that was the scene where Genzo was being confronted by Arlong for owning a weapon. (Can anyone tell who the voice actor for him is based on the backside of the VA? Haha)
-
Snaps! Which episode exactly is this? I only got the audio!!!
-
From what I know, the scene is from episode 32.
-
So, FUNimation has a podcast and they aired an audio clip from episode 32?
-
I watched the podcast and I didn't hear any voices or anything. They just showed a couple video only clips of uncut scenes while Mcfarland explained how things that are not allowed on TV are on the uncut DVDs. There was a punch to Luffy in the face, Gin(I think that's his name)holding a gun to someones face… They were Baratie arc clips but there was NO audio. Absolutely nothing special.
-
Damn I can't believe I still have my account.
When I heard they're finally releasing uncut DVDs… I had to come back. It was the right thing to do.
Also ordered it from Best Buy (had gift cards) so I should expect it soon. -
don't really care about Kaizoku taking the previews out. considering I started watching one Piece when Vegapunk started. So I had the next episode always for some 290 chapters anyway so didn't really need to see a preview. i of course like them now to see the preview for next week since their is no episode.
But for these dvd's i watch on marathon mode anyway so won't see them anyway. My hope is that later in the series when we have the super long and exactly same first 3-4 minutes as teh ending of previous episode is that they sort of delete it from marathon mode. Be kind of weird otherwise.
-
Wow, so Caitlin Glass WAS right about where they were last month in dubbing (in the 20s). Anyways, that was a really nice podcast. Glad to hear everything they said.
-
when is the next dvd coming out. I thought I heard somewhere that is was 6 weeks or something after first set, but that seems really soon. i would expect 3 months.
Any indication given besides trailer on first set saying comming soon

The next set has been confirmed to come out on September 23rd.
So the 6 weeks-statement was obviously a blatant lie made for the sole purpose of giving us false hopes (This part is complete bullsh*t by the way). -
well that ain't so bad sept 23. comes out about same time as the 3rd Inheritance book.

But it's 16 weeks… for 13 episodes... It's better than Viz's bimontly release of Bleach, (24 episodes a year for such a long series?) but it's still annoying. Ah well, at least this way I can actually afford getting other stuff as well.
-
I guess we only get like 39-52 episodes a year, depending on when it hits. So on average like 45 episodes a year.
Its not horrible compared to like you said bleach, but would be sweet to get like 75 or so. Then we would be caught up in like 5 years. At this rate it will take like 8 years to reach where the current episodes are.
-

Seconded. That and how a lot of the movies are gonna be translated are the only things I'm kinda dreading about the second set.
-
The release schedule isn't bad considering 39 episodes a year is close to how many we would get if the series were on TV still (factoring in breaks and such).
-

Also consider though that the show is very old. Naruto and Bleach are what, a couple years behind the Japanese release. One Piece is a DECADE behind.
Even going at one set every two months would take them five years to get close.
-
It'd be amazing if Funi could dub at the pace of the German dub, which started in 2003, but has **already dubbed at least up to 312.**This may be because they aren't putting enough time and effort into it as Funi is, but at least they could maybe speed up a bit, and not say stuff that may not happen (like the 6-8 weeks press release.)
But you don't have to be 5 months behind the Japanese to be a success. Ever heard of DBZ? Sure, it may not have been the best dub, but it was a phenomenon, and they were years behind the Japanese. At least 2nd Voyage is released 2 days after my B-Day.
-
I prefer quality acting, thank you very much. The 4Kids dub sucked so much because of how fast they must have dubbed each scene. FUNimation is already rushing as it is.
-
You've got a point. As Miyamoto once said,
"A delayed [work] is eventually good; a bad [work] is bad forever."
If it weren't for all these delays, canceling, and other crud, we'd be a bit further in Skypiea, AND have uncut DVDs. But good treats every once in a while is better than crap for dinner every night. Or something. -

I was wondering if someone would bring this up. consider this though, for the uncut, they just need to dub. No edits, no fancy schmancy cuts… nothing like that. All they have to do is dub, so IMO t shouldn't take as long as a Cartoon Network release.
-
Holy shit. I just got done watching the 4Kids episode "Roguetown" for the first time. I have to say, no words can describe how awful Tashigi's voice is. She sounds like my aunt when she was on menopause. I think she might actually be worse that Vivi's.
I'm glad One Piece is off CN as long as we don't have to see reruns of THAT.
-

I don't mind since it means that I get the second set coming out on my birthday.
16 weeks for 13 episodes isn't horrible. Lots of anime releases take a lot longer.
If you look at a lot of other anime releases, they some times take several months just to release 4-5 episode DVDs. Compared to that, One Piece is going at a good pace.

Funny, 'cause it comes out 5 days before mine.

Thing is, I think they were rushing more with the broadcast dub more than the dvd releases. So it probably takes longer. The dub's quality, not to mention making sure the menus and art look nice takes time time, is much higher than the tv version. CN set the time limit for the episodes to be done, so Funi just had to do their best with the time they had to do it in. With the dvds, they can set their own schedules and work at their own pace if necessary. Meaning, the dvds probably take longer.
Not to mention, mistakes were allowed in the broadcast version as far as consistancy and all that. Funi could just say "We'l fix it on the dvds!" SO now they have to make sure they get everything right this time around. They probably have to do a ton of research on terms, running gags, character name spellings, etc.
-
I guess but… I'm still mad that they outright lied to us. That's just not cool.
-
The best thing for any company to do is never make promises, everything should be a maybe. It's better to wonder in anticipation than be disappointed many times.
-
I guess. I said from the beginning not take everything Funi said as the gospel because they're gonna try to deliver but also they're just saying what they hope to be true/fans want to hear. Personally, I'm just pleased as punch Funi got the rights to use the Zoro name. I wasnt going to buy these dvds any other way.

Not meaning to open old wounds, but, correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't KF's subs come from the DVDs? I thought the JP DVDs didn't have the previews?
-
So does anyone have a number of how much the DVDs sold?
-

The Japanese DVDs DO have the Previews, K-F Removes them because they think they're too heavy with the spoilers.
-

Get over it. So their planned release schedule was a miss. 6-8 weeks is too fast if you ask me. I want the dub quality to be good and not TOO rushed, thank you very much. Also, keep in mind not all of us can afford to chuck out $30-$50 every 2 months on a anime boxset.
Also, in this aspect I may be wrong. But did we hear this "promise" exactly, or did a fan/reporter state this is what FUNi said? Wording is everything.
-
I'm not mad that the release date isn't 6-8 weeks, I'm mad that Funi lied about it. Though you do bring up a good point about maybe someone misunderstanding them. Except that it was apparently said by two different people at two different conventions. I can understand if just ONE fan heard wrong but this was two different ones, two separate conventions.
It just makes me wonder is all. I guess it's true what they say, if something seems to good to be true, it probably is.
-
Things change really quickly in life, always take anything with a grain of 'subject to change'.
-
Me and Buuhan's counters are off by a day..what is yours set to Buuhan? Mine was Sept 23rd at Midnight

They didn't lie so much as they were either thinking of doing the 6-8 weeks thing but couldn't or the con guy just thought that's when they were coming out. FUNi never actually came out and hugely announced the 6-8 weeks thing(as far as I know). Also Quexinos, you may want to fix the counter in your sig. It says the DVD set is edited.
-

I just set the date to Sept 23rd, put my timezone (GMT -6) and that's it.
Also, you do realize yours says:
Brought to you uncut and edited for the very first time on DVD
Right? XD
-
ROFL no I didn't realize that XD..
err it won't let me change it O_o
It gives me http://smileytime.com/countdown/links/.gif as the image… and mine IS a day off... oh the agony of not proof reading my signature ;_;
EDIT:
okay I actually had to go in there and just kind of guess which number I was. There was a lot of weird countdowns in there but my favorite was the one that just said, "bbb" -
Wow can I not stand the generally ungrateful attitude that a lot of One Piece fans get over how the show is being handled by Funimation. Considering how bleak the industry is right now (both Nihon side and domestically), we're lucky that the series is being released at all, let alone in such well-dubbed, affordable box sets (no matter the counter-argument, 13 freshly dubbed unaired episodes for 25-40 bucks is a great deal).
At times like this, I really can't stand the internet. :/
-
I know what you mean. I'm just happy that the series is being release uncut at all.
-

same here Sano. Same here.

You know what I hate? When someone like me who has a forum and website dedicated to Funimation's One Piece, buys at least two of all their DVDs, has a countdown in her signature, goes from forum to forum to make sure people buy the product, reports people who upload full episodes to youtube (yeah I did this one), sent Funimation a huge thank you package, personally contacted Mike McFarland and other Funi representatives, stood up for Funi when no one else would, and has been accused of sucking Funi's dick suddenly has a "bad attitude" because the company that she had so much faith in and was so grateful to lied to her.
I'm sorry but I don't like being lied to, period. I don't care what the reason is. Forgive me if I seem like a monster for it. I love the uncut DVDs to death, I am NOT ungrateful at all. If you ask me, you guys are the ones with the bad attitudes.
-
Wait, what lie? I missed something. I know they had an ideal timeframe for releases that got altered due to something I am sure of (maybe someone got sick, taking longer to get art from Toei, etc.). I dunno. Did I miss something or are people just arrogant little fucks who like to bitch?
Seriously, do you throw this much of a fit when this happens when a movie or a game gets delayed? Give me a break ya pathetic greedy brats.

Wow, you really put some thought into that. It's a corporation, they can't also tell you the truth because they don't always have it. That's business.
-
Lord almighty, release dates are always subject to change. Who actually believed that six to eight weeks was even possible? It's obvious that the rep mistook each set as counting as a season when he said 'the first two seasons were done'.

THIS. –-- We all get that you feel slighted by Funimation (especially due to prior over-zealotry) for getting the "tentative" release schedule wrong, and for that, I'm sure they're about as sorry as a company can be. But it's an overall sense of ungratefulness that I've seen not only on this board, but toonzone, and many other OP fan communities that convey a paranoid sense of betrayal and distrust by some that is clearly out of touch with reality. They want your money, by any means necessary, and any time they screw up (both minor and major), you better believe it was unintentional. One Piece is (in the west) a property almost entirely supported by the fanbase. If they lose our money, there's no money to be had. It really irks me to see people bashing a company that cares about it's customers way more so than anyone else in the sub-industry, and for us of all people to not appreciate that is the biggest of crimes in this situation.
