That true which means that Ace won't be dying anytime soon.
Chapter 501 "The World's Starting to Churn" Discussion
-
-
Oda does kill in the present, only those unnamed characters by the thousand/hundreds, or some named characters that only have one or two dialogue then gets killed. Other than that, you don't see much characters dying. And I agree with a few people that if a bomb that detonates at point blank range and Pell still survives, I don't know what could kill any important named character in One Piece unless it is a flashback.
I wonder if Oda is going to break out a flashback soon about Gol D. Roger, since his right hand man is almost meeting Luffy.
-
Hahahahaha, all these people who think Ace is going to live
ODA WOULDN'T KILL ACE, THAT'D BE MEANIE-FACE OF HIM
-
I doubt that Luffy will buy Silvers.

This post is deleted!

That true since it 22 years before the main story.

Why does everybody assume that Shanks and whitebeard are aworking together? Judging from their interaction during the meeting, it seemed to me to be quite clear that Shanks is against the idea of taking on the WG like this. He knew that Ace fighting blackbeard was an idea that was going to have bad consequences, and Whitebeard got huffy when he told him this.
Whitebeard maybe the "strongest man in the world" and has incredible devotion to his men, but he also strikes me as being incredibly arrogant, and used to being treated as "The Pirate king-almost." I actually agree with Blackbeard in that Whitebeards era is coming to a close, and this whole thing may be WB's last hurrah.
About Garp's apparent lack of interest in his grandson's execution. Most of his family don't seem to interfers in the lives of the others. Essentially it can be boiled down to "If you can't take care of yourself then you shouldn't be out on the sea. People who rely completely on others have no right being a pirate." Sure Luffy loves and respects his crewmates, but he can take care of himself. Garp's opinion probably runs along "it's Ace's own damn fault for getting caught."
Also, and this is just my opinion, but…does anyone else think that Dragon may, in fact, not be one of the "Good guys?" I still haven't gotten any real feeling that he's after what's good for the world. Revolutionary or not, he strikes me more as a "villain" in the One Piece sense than one of Luffy's allies.
Sure the WG may have a lot of corruption and hateful nobles, but the majority of pirates are killers, cutthroats, and thieves (Luffy's crew is an exception, not the rule), and they need to be kept under control, the WG does that.

Gol. D. Roger
O.o
Oh wait, technically that's a flashback too.
No it wasn't. The manga started 22 years ago. Then it flashed to 10 years ago, then present time (In the OP world). It was present time when Roger died, technically.

That's not really true. Do remember that Monkey D. Dragon did save Luffy's life in Loguetown and prevented his capture by smoker. Also, when specifically ordered by Sengoku to take out the Strawhat crew in Water Seven, Garp ordered his subordinates to not get involved. By doing so, Garp willfully disobeyed the intent of the order while following it to the letter. Had he gotten Aokiji off his ass and included a full cannon barrage to his own shotput attack, the 1000 Sunny likely would have been destroyed. Garp gave luffy every chance to escape, and Luffy obliged.
Do remember that there is also the possibility that Ace is no blood relation of his. Ace is a Portgas and not a Monkey, so if he only shares a mother with with Luffy and not a father, Garp will have no direct familial obligation to him. The background of Dadan may become relevant in this discussion as well.
I also agree that Dragon's motives are murky at best at this point.

Are people discussing death in One Piece, AGAIN?!?
People, let's not beat a long dead horse.Horses don't die in OP's present.
-
If Sanji had bought that dancing slave girl, would he have set her free or would Sanji have done something else instead?
-
If Sanji had bought that dancing slave girl, would he have set her free or would Sanji have done something else instead?
Set her free I'm sure because he hates the idea of a slave trade and he seems the type to want to serve women, not rule over women.
-
I agree since Sanji is the type of guy that would do that.
-
Interestingly enough, when interviewed in a geisha documentary, some modern day middle-aged housewives in Japan were comfortable with their husbands having affairs so long as the women were 'of status' and it kept their husbands happy.
Just out of curiosity, are those housewives asked if they'd be willing to have an affair with another man or not? I'm not disagreeing with you at any point but I'd such a question could give a little more insight of the personality profile of these women.^^

Horses don't die in OP's present.
To support something stated before. The WG is not nececarily bad. That's the good thing about ODA he doesn't black and whiten out roles in One Piece. Sure the WG goes over corps for their own dirty secrets but on the other side it keeps the pirates under controll. Imagine a world where Pirates like Arlong, Krieg or so on could do what they wanted. The coin always has at least two sides ;)
-
@Trafalga:

You might want to rethink using Arlong as an example for the good job the government and its navy have done.
-
Just because he wasn't stopped doesn't really make him a bad example. Without the marines he would have had much greater freedom. And Trafalgar actually says "pirates like" which means you should imagine more of them with the same idea trying to attempt what Arlong did.
-
I guess some of the new races is going to look pretty exaggerated.
I mean, Luffy and Usopp is very small compared to the most of the One Piece people, but I don't think they're dwarfs.
Kalifa's neck here :O: http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/403/03/
And she's probably not a snake-neckKaku's, Lucci's and Kalifa's leg are insanely long - and still, they can't be any other species than humans
Or ARE the persons listed over here actually respectively dwarfs, snake-necks and long-legs - it has never been explicitly said they were humans, only implied.
-
@Trafalga:
Yeah that was the point when I started to just accept it. I mean if flying carrying a plutonium Bomb while it detonates doesn't kill you what will?
yeah, that is the one of the things that bothered me…Oda is generally so awesome, but then that bird dude survived when for all intents and purposes, he had a significant and meaningful death...yet he survived...geez
-
I think all of those races are officially "human." After all, the slave auction house has the big label "Human" on top.
-
In regards to ace specifically though, I can't see his death happening. Oda has kept him alive for far too long to kill him off now. That's for a different reason. Oda can't kill off a devil fruit user until after we meet Dr. Vegapunk and learn how Devil Fruits really work.
You know, I think you've just brought a whole new perspective on why Pell survived.
-
After seeing page 7 of this weeks chapter, I was influenced to draw this…
-
Oda wants Sanji to get cancer :(
-
Sanji has to keep up his Cigarette quota. How else do you think he's able to perform Diable Jambe? I completely missed Sanji chaining like 3 of them at once the first time I read this ch. Freaking hilarious!
The man must have invincible taste buds. And the strawhats must not mind having ashes in their food. Although he is probably courteous and restrains himself when preparing food (at least for the ladies). Has anyone caught him smoking while making food?
-
hope ace doesn't die, but it'd make the story more interesting if he does…
-
Well, after this chapter, I guess we could see why Camie is always getting kidnapped, it pays alot to sell a mermaid…..!
-
wonder why she is worth so much?
-
Because they are so hard to catch there is a limited supply and thus a favoured collectors item?
-
She's a freakin Mermaid, a prize, trophy, a rare item. Doesn't take a scientist to see why she would be worth so much.
Tell you what, go out and find a mermaid and I bet you would be rich.
-
that sounds the most reasonable to me. Kokoro better be careful (lol).
-

hey i'm just getting other peoples opinions. I mean.. One Piece is full of some pretty darn weird things that lots of people take pretty casually. No one seems to have freaked out majorly due to Brooke and Chopper's appearances YET. DF users are pretty rare. wouldn't they sell high? I was just wondering if someone had an interesting theory. Maybe her parts sell good. Or maybe shes a delicacy?
-
Maybe because they are hard to catch (fastest creatures in the sea), plus they rarely go to SA because of the discrimination.
-
This was a C Chapter at best. Peterman has yet to make his move, I got a feeling he is the real arc boss.

Idk it's possible, but I don't see him as a threat. To me he just seems like a weaker Duval who got lucky.
-
And there's still the $64,000 Question: What happened to the needles in his shoulders?
-
Idk it's possible, but I don't see him as a threat. To me he just seems like a weaker Duval who got lucky.
Only VIP's must go throw the rear entrance, I bet he's the reason why there is a ring around the neck, of Pirate kings right hand. lol
-
I want Duval to put his mask back on. Don't get me wrong, I like his "bone structure modification" (lol sanji). But I really liked his look back when we first met him. It sort of felt like some kind of loose Homage to Jagi from Hokuto No Ken. (big spiked shoulder pads, very large body, preferred to use a gun. Rode on a giant bison instead of a motorcycle. Led a gang of riders! The fact that he was hiding a hideous face!)
-
that sounds the most reasonable to me. Kokoro better be careful (lol).
Well, the price guide says she'd be worth about ten million, being a split-fin female and all, but i can't help but feel the auctioneer would end up going down to a hundred belli just to ship her off.
-
Don't forget to lower the price due to her rampant alcoholism too.
-
Yeah she drinks like a Fish..
-
Can we please get a proper good raw for this chapter? 3 days have passed and still no one has done it :|
-
I want Luffy to save Ace in front of dying WB, and hear him say: Shanks, that b*stard, was right !
-
been rereading the the manga found silvers in buggy's flashback lower right panel.
http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceMangav-3/volume3.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=11489
can't wait for next. -
I've found that panel every day in FFA's signature…. =S

Am I the only one finding the idea of mermaids tails splitting unbelievably cringeworthy and painful?
Dx -
and to think that they could actually still function the same as people's legs… gross.
-
I'm wondering why they don't stink like hell.
-
Hm, I think some people are going the right direction of Brook's and Byron's relationship. Let us Compare:
The resemblance between the 2 is very similar. Byron shares the nose, lips, sharp chin, and stubble that Brook has. Not to mention he has rather wavy hair, which could have been passed down as a 2nd generation relative of a person with an afro (meaning he is the son of Brook's son…being 25 there is no way he is the son of Brook, but if Brook had a son 50 years ago who later had a son 25 years ago then it will make sense) and even has a scar over the right eye and wear similar clothes as Brook (the black jacket and neckerchief).
Not to mention he is rather tall at 6'4" (not as tall as Brook, obviously) and is said to "be the heir to a long line of musicians"!
I know it is a wild speculation, but it is almost positive that Byron is related to Brook in some way.

I'm wondering why they don't stink like hell.
Who says they don't? For all that we know Luffy could stink like hell most of the time.
