If it is happening in the movie or not or if it was one of Marsters random spurts about the show. You know what, I give up. I'll see this thread again when a trailer comes up or something.
Dragonball: Evolution (Live-Action Movie)
-
-
Yeah, I'm confused here too. I was with myoga. I missed most of Dragonball, especially that part, but I do know that Piccolo was old, used the dragonballs to get young again, Goku rocketed through his chest, and he spat up an egg which became thee Piccolo we all know and love.
What are you guys talking about?
I think it's just people getting what Marsters said about movie Piccolo and what they know about manga Piccolo all mixed up.
Either way, from what I can tell, they're kinda combining Piccolo Daimao and Piccolo "Jr" into one character for the movie, rather than dealing with all the reincarnation stuff. Makes sense, keeps things simpler, if you ask me.
-
I know what happened in Dragonball, but the way Marsters made it sound was he was a human old man, who made a wish on the Dragonballs and they liked, infused him with the power of green
Maybe I'm just trying to make it worse then it is
and of course, I watched Dragonball a good, 5 years ago.
-
I didn't hear it like that at all when I watched it.
-
http://www.infotaku.com/Article4012.html
They got the pics up.
I fucking raged like hell. Absolutely NOTHING in there resembles Dragon Ball. NOTHING.
-
Well the aliens look good.. Mai looks pretty good too, but she should have a trench coat on. It would make her look more in character.
Goku's Gi looks fine. But the thing is.. he doesn't look like Goku
and.. why is his hair BROWN? So both Bulma & Goku will have the wrong hair color? I'm betting that Krillin is going to have a mohawk or something.
-
@Lobster:
Well the aliens look good..
I see no fucking aliens. What're you talking about?
@Lobster:
Goku's Gi looks fine.
Those things on his arms are not wrist bands. Goku does not wear baggy blue pants with sandles. And his upper clothing looks more like a wrap around vest with a tight blue shirt under.
@Lobster:
I'm betting that Krillin is going to have a mohawk or something.
lol not in teh movi!!
Yeah. Change the very reason why Goku went after Piccolo.
-
I see no fucking aliens. What're you talking about?
ALIENS
And no Krillian? Wow.. making him not exist is even worse then them giving him a Mohawk…
-
Those? Christ, I couldn't tell if they were skeletons or retard mummies. With the design of this movie, it's impossible to tell.
-

That's not the full costume. We've seen lower-quality shots of it before, and it indeed has orange pants and boots. That's Goku's stunt double, so he's probably just chilling until it's his scene in that shot.
-
stunt double wtf…man they shoulda got Bruce Willis to be Goku [/psyche]
-
I actually wanted a Samuel L. Jackson Piccolo
That would equal ownage in my book.
-
Well, that site is gone.
-
to be fair, those guys looks freaky, but thats about as far as it goes. Also, beting those will be power rangers like monster suits ,lying on the bearers like a limp rug?
-
Hey guys, I found a spoiler picture of Chi Chi's Dad that was deleted from the site earlier
!
(The Ox King)
-
I didn't know you were into that kinda stuff, Lobster.
-
Yea that's an assault on my vision.
-
Lobster-Dürer of Bosch ?
-
This is just so sad, look at the stunt double:http://kotaku.com/377523/image-of-justin-chatwins-double-in-goku-gear
-
That picture is old.
-
I really think this movie has potential. Everyone bitching about the images and Bulma's hair reminds me of last year and all those Transformers fans who wouldn't shut the fuck up. All I can say is wait for an effin' Trailer.
-
Not all Transformers fans wound up liking the movie even after it came out.
-
Lobster-Dürer of Bosch ?
[researches]
So it would appear
I really think this movie has potential. Everyone bitching about the images and Bulma's hair
Well, something like that is a BIG part her character. Also it is an easy, almost costless, thing to fix.
It's simple things like these that show they aren't just going for an artists "representation".. they are trying to piss off the fans to raise discussion. They are actually trying to. That is their goal.
And Piccolo. They are having Piccolo wear a black batman looking leather suit with gloves and everything. I've even heard rumors that he's not going to be green. (until he transforms in the sequel)
-
How the fuck is blue/teal hair important to Bulma's character? Did she say once that her smarts comes from it or some other lame shit? Hair color, hair styles, and all that is not important to a character. It's simply that one appearance which was created to home the character.
This movie is another appearance, just cause someone doesn't fucking have blue hair doesn't mean the character is dead. Personally, I don't wanna watch an hour and a half of headache inducing hair, be it color or sheer ridiculousness of the style.
-
How does hair induce headaches?
-
@Lobster:

(The Ox King)
That's pretty nasty Lobster!
-
How the fuck is blue/teal hair important to Bulma's character?
Umm.. because it IS her character. It distinguishes her.
That's like making Nami's hair black. Or Luffy's hair blond.
It's ridiculous
And frankly this makes me sick to my stomach.
That's pretty nasty Lobster!
Scary thing is, it's not an artist interpretation. The lady actually looked like that.
-
Wasn't Bulma's hair originally purple? Wikipedia called it fuchsia, I'm assuming that's a sort of purple.
-
Manga's purple/lavenderish color anime is blue.
-

If you want to get technical, Bulma's hair was probably white and black the first time it appeared.
WHUT NAOW.
-
Well then it's funny Lobster picks on her movie inconsistency, when even the anime got it wrong.
Are we gonna be angry if Piccolo only has 4 fingers, or will we be angry if he has 5?

Blue-fucking-hair, seriously? My girlfriend says that my eyelashes define me. Does that mean if they made a movie about my life, and the main character didn't have the same eyelashes would my girlfriend start posting idiotic posts on a message board? (like you)
Live-action films are funny because it seems like everyone and their grandma bitches about how they never follow the comic/cartoon/original. Fuck that, it's obvious that they're changing the story in key parts to make it more appealing to the initial audience. They won't be able to make THAT much off 14 year old anime fanboys. I'm sure there will be changes that will make me shake my head, but then again I'm a Fucking Fan. Opposed to my girlfriend who has no idea about Dragon Ball, but wants to see it for Chatwin. Sure, they might want to stay close to the original manga, but the film would suffer significantly in numbers. However, if they make a film that has elements from the original with the glamor of Hollywood they might be able to make their money back.
Lobster - Get your head out of your ass and think. If there aren't photographs yet… can you confirm it? No.
Wikipedia says that Piccolo will have the same appearance from the anime. Is Wikipedia reliable? Not really, but I believe it over Lobster. -
There's a Dragon Ball movie blog online that has cellphone pics of the crew and some of the cast. Even with the shitty resolution you can see blue streaks in Bulma's hair. I'd post the image I have on my Mixi page but it won't allow linking.
-
I know for a fact that Bulma just has blue streaks. All of my sources have said that. And now Greg says it too
It's so ridiculous.
And for the record, Bulma's hair isn't going to be blue, like in the anime, OR periwinkle, or w/e like the manga. They choose NONE OF THE ABOVE
So don't give them that poultry excuse for something as unforgivable as that.
-
cue montage of anime characters screaming "Unforgivable!!"
What's the cliche Japanese word for unforgivable again?
-

Aww, Movie Maker doesn't like my Movie 6's format.
Pretend I just made a video that had this one scene.
cMZ4wNaICG4
From 3:00 to 3:08
… stupid Movie Maker.
-
Piccolo's costume?
-
From 3:00 to 3:08
Wow, I actually forgot how great that scene was :s
Anyway, this how the movie might end
xFJGZ74Dckg&feature=related
And are they having Chow Tsu in it? If they cut Krillian out, then probably not.
-
@Sandai:
Piccolo's costume?
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
…This movie would be better if it was about Gohan...Goku and Highschool shouldn't even be put in the same sentence...dam..
-
Black Armour, or purple cloth. If he's green and has pointy ears with 2 antennae on top, I'll be satisfied with how he looks.
-
Hopefully they will just paint the black armor green to make it look like his skin.
Because Piccolo's skin does sort of stick out like that.
-
For some reason I still don't believe it. Look at the "Top Secret" thing covering "Piccolo", not to mention the "Dragonball" font. I looks really really shitty. Why release a body shot, but not the face? Doesn't make sense, it would be like releasing a photo of the Incredible Hulk, but with his face covered. (Before the trailer came out, of course)
-
Strings, no matter how much you attempt to justify it, this movie is not something that can appeal to a mass audience. Most people who will be interested in this movie would be the fans. Why? Because Dragon Ball is a big name fans have come to know for many, many years now. When that movie's released, they're all going to be sorely disappointed with how much of a monstrosity this will be.
Transformers was different in the sense that it happened to come out during a time where most fans of the franchise had already grown up. Same with the upcoming Speed Racer. Dragon Ball has not reached that point yet.
-
…are you telling me...there are people...who thought that was Piccolo's outfit? It's Batman.
-
For some reason I still don't believe it. Look at the "Top Secret" thing covering "Piccolo", not to mention the "Dragonball" font. I looks really really shoddy. Why release a body shot, but not the face? Doesn't make sense, it would be like releasing a photo of the Incredible Hulk, but with his face covered. (Before the trailer came out, of course)
Because that little "page" wasn't part of a magazine or anything. It was put out personally by the makeup guy, and apparently, he's a lot better at makeup than he is with photoshop. I mean, have you seen the full image? There's an explanation right on it. He was proud of his work on Marsters for Piccolo, but he's not allowed to reveal the face, so he slapped together and released this little "teaser" shot in this latest batch of his work updates.
Also, that's just about definitely not his skin, unless skin suddenly has built-in sleeves (take a look at his right forearm). And this outfit works great for Piccolo Daimao; it's very sinister and regal; has quite a "savage tyrant" feel to it. If it were Piccolo "Jr," then it might not be as appropriate.
Tsukento… you know me from DaizEX, so you know I'm also a huge DragonBall fan, and... well, they've certainly already got MY money, my support, and my appreciation for even making a DragonBall movie in the first place. So unless you can somehow read the minds of every DragonBall fan out there, it might be a good idea not to make such rash assumptions and predictions.
Plus, quite frankly... they're NOT making this movie with we picky DragonBall fans in the forefront of their minds. Really, you know we're ALL (DragonBall fans, that is) going to see it in one way or another, but we're still just a tiny percentage of the movie's ultimate audience. They're out to market this to a much wider audience than a bunch of picky, pissed-off DragonBall/Anime nerds. So they're going to be adapting things somewhat to be able to reach to that wider audience.
And yes, it's about money. Even if you do actually like and care about the original source material (as we know at least Chow and Marsters do), there's no point in making a large-scale movie if you're not going to turn at least a slight profit from it.
Do I like ALL the changes made in this movie? No, of course not. But I'm willing to live with them, hell, even bring myself to enjoy them for the sake of… well, just enjoying them. So they're possibly combining Piccolos. Fine. So Bulma's hair isn't completely blue. Fine. So Goku's in high school for like five minutes. Fine. If that's what will make the movie successful, and bring in sequels, and new DragonBall fans and merchandise in the like, then by all means, bring it on.
And for Dende's sake, the good things really do FAR outweigh the bad, here. A lot of people seem to be ignoring the shining points for the tiny flaws.
"Hmm… oh check it out, a massive, spectacularly-crafted set for a volcano that's potentially the site of the movie's final battle... OMG BULMA'S ONLY GOT BLUE STREAKS THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!"
_"Hey look, that's a really nicely adapted version of the kame school uniform, it's got the kame symbol and everything, and… WTF PICCOLO'S NOT WEARING PURPLE PAJAMAS!!! DESTROY 20 FOX CENTURY!!!1!!!""Oh wow, there's going to be a Tenkaichi Budokai in this movie, and Chi-Chi's fighting Mai, and... OH CRAP the stadium's got a ROOF! WTF?"_
I know I'm exaggerating somewhat, and you guys on AP probably don't really… care as much as folks on "other places" seem to, but I still hope I've made my point. It's a popcorn action flick based on a goofy 80's cartoon. You're probably a lot better off and healthier just to roll with it and enjoy it for what it is. -
Strings, no matter how much you attempt to justify it, this movie is not something that can appeal to a mass audience. Most people who will be interested in this movie would be the fans. Why? Because Dragon Ball is a big name fans have come to know for many, many years now. When that movie's released, they're all going to be sorely disappointed with how much of a monstrosity this will be.
Tsukento - Kaboom just proved my point. Fans will go see the movie. Whether they're going to bitch and complain or they'll enjoy it. They're still giving the producers and staff their money. Now if they alter the movie is a way that can appeal to new audiences and old audiences, well they just made more money than trying to direct it at those hardcore DBZ fanboys.
Kaboom - Ok Wow, I seriously DON'T believe it now. That second image is far worse than the first one.
-
But the thing is.. the changes that they make don't make the general audience enjoy it more.
Do you think that the general public will like the movie more because they are being unfaithful to the original? In things that they could care less about? Like hair color, names, or basic designs?
The audience probably could care less if per say, the stadium had a roof, or didn't have a roof. The only ones who will care are the actual fans of the series.
So by making these unnecessary changes, they aren't gaining any support. Only pissing off the people who are already fans of the series.
