I'm kinda going with the 52 episode order story… Seems kinda odd to give them more time when Funi already dubbed a chunk load of episodes. That's unless CN wants more....
E-Mail CN about their Canceling/Temp Removing of One Piece!!
-
-
I don't think that's the case, Robo. Even with dubbing the earlier episodes, FUNi should have dubbed up till the end of G8 (205) by now. Months upon months ago they were up to episode 174…so I doubt they "ran out of episodes".
-
@Yuugi's:
Those change all the time, Roman.
Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
Better to have people prepared.
EDIT: And now the advanced scehduel that usually gives us the new FUNi dub episodes titles also says a 4kids rerun is planned to air on the 22nd.

Well… that's a swift kick in the nuts.
It'll be interesting to see reaction of going from Funi back to 4Kids.

@Sandai:
You forgot more fanatical for the people who are long time fans.
Precisely why I left this forum. If people on ANN couldn't take criticism without flagging posts for moderator evaluation, little children on AP are going to go berxerxes!
Sort of sad that CN is getting a hiatus (what channel is it on?) and could possibly be gone for good, but meh. The dub always struck me as over-hyped and promoted by the zealots here and and abroad, sort of like Ron Paul's supposed revolutionary presidential campaign. I'm not all that shocked.
-
Well, life's like that. People get angry when they cannot get their coveted dub and there's no fan sub in the world that can speed up the release.
-
I don't think emailing them to beg/demand them to stop doing something we aren't even aware they are doing is the best way to handle this situation.
If any mailing is to be done, it should simply inquire what the future status of One Piece is in the network.
-
@Mr.:
I like how they give One Piece a break and the entire fucking fanbase has a hemorrhoid.
Seriously guys, I like the dub and all, but what real good comes from it? Besides making the One Piece community larger and more retarded.
-
So, I've skimmed through the whole thread…
I couldn't find a link to anything that says something about One Piece getting canned/temporarily pulled, just stuff about reruns. If anyone can provide a link to this stuff, that would be nice.
-
Meh…My interest in the Funi dub has taken a drastic dive recently anyway.
So not the biggest deal in the world for me. As long as the subs and scanslations keep coming, I could care less.
And if all else fails, I get Funimation network anyways... -
See, that's a problem. We shouldn't rely on subs and scanlations since they don't help the industry in the slightest (well, besides making people aware of series not yet in the US).
-
Well, some of us support the series by buying merchandise(overpriced!!) at cons and stuff. I started buying the manga but gave up when I didnt like choices Viz made. I'll buy the Funi dvds as long as the subs turn out better than the dub is so far. Thing is sometimes localizations turn out horrible. Are you supposed to buy the product to support the series despite this? In some cases, I'd say yes but with OP, I'm not so sure. It's already plenty popular.
-
I'd say the FUNi dub is more than adequate enough to justify purchasing the DVDs. At the very least, it's nowhere close to "horrible" (and I really can't see how you would think so, given that your opinions about the thing "for the most part" were positive in the various talkbacks). One Piece, in particular, needs help in the US. Just watching the online subs and scanlations isn't going to help it in the slightest. And it's just plain bad for the industry, anyway. Although you very well may not care a lick… But that's the problem.
I think the tv dub and it's "more-than-you-would've-liked" editing standards is getting to you...
-
If the manga doesn't sell well, and the Funimation DVDs don't do well enough (on top of the ratings of the TV version), then companies won't want to release merchandise in the states (including more video games, toys etc).
It hurts domestic fans too, since they then have to import all of their merch, and lord knows how much of that money actually gets back to the people who deserve it (bootleg dvds as well).
It just seems to encourage bootlegs and knockoffs to me. It's counter productive, and just seems like an excuse to not pay money for entertainment directly.
-
I just went to Atlanta, GA this weekend, too (where the main Turner building is located, Turner owns Cartoon Network and other channels). I would have marched in there if I would have known about before hand.
All kidding aside, I did turn the tv on when One Piece aired just so my watching would be accounted for. I've already watched the episodes though via fan-subs. Maybe Funi should approach the marketing through iTune podcasts or host a website that shows full One Piece episodes to those that subscribe to the website.
-
If the good One Piece comes into the UK, I'll get the DVDs from the UK retailer. If not, I'll import the DVDs. I only use Fansubs for comparison and not for keeps. I'd rather not bootleg them as I would be doing the show a favor.
-
See, that's a problem. We shouldn't rely on subs and scanlations since they don't help the industry in the slightest (well, besides making people aware of series not yet in the US).
This is the same thing to say that we shouldn't download the manga chapters anymore because it's not licensed.
Oh wait, but the manga contains Oda's original work, while the anime is just an adaptation!
Goddamnit guys.
-
But it all supports One Piece as a franchise, in the end.
Downloading fan subs and scanlations and not doing anything else doesn't do SQUAT for the franchise.
-
Hohohooo, Ao Kiji and his logic.
-
-
Ao Kiji didn't like the dub because he said FUNimation was making Robin a Bitch. They'll sort the proper lines out on the uncut DVDs.
-
Was she a bitch in the movie?
-

huh? That's a small portion of the bigger picture. My biggest gripe is the ridiculous level of edits, which is mainly CN and the hyperactive soccer mom's fault, and the constant dialogue changes we're seeing. It's becoming obvious that the Funi dub is meant to "improve" the original storyline now instead of stay true to it, which is what we were promised. I loathe watching the show in english and hearing Luffy say things like "That's a punch he'll never forget" and that whole "delicious" fiasco. Pardon me for thinking the story is fine and perfect as it is. I understand localizing things to make them clear for an american audience. Dropping honorifics and pirate bento now being pirate lunch and all that is just fine. But these supposed improvements have done nothing but kill the original mood of the scenes. Bitch Robin is the most obvious because it's constant in every episode.
I'm glad that Funi is giving me the chance to own the original series in Japanese legally but I'm really not in full support of that dub they're doing anymore. It's really disappointing when stuff like WitchBlade has a funi dub that's leagues above One Piece when OP is the show they have on basic cable. Not to mention it's the most popular series in the world right now. I'd just hoped the production value would be slightly higher than "pretty good".
But because I dont care about the dub, I couldnt care less if CN decides to drop the show or not. The dvds will still be there.
-
CN's newfound editing standards, especially after years of looseness, make me worried about Blue Dragon. I hope they don't pull a Zatch Bell on us.
-
did 4kids even finished Zatch Bell?
over here we only got to the part where they meet Laila

In the past 3 or 4 weeks Robin has dropped almost all emotion.

Viz dubbed Zatch Bell
-
I dunno if they finished or not. :/
-
-
They got the the episode where Brogo lays waste to all the demons on the surface of the castle. So basically, it stopped right before the battle with the 4th Heavenly King, and Sherry vs. Zophise
The worst place to stop in the entire series.
Disgraceful

Why denounce the whole DUB with edits made to the TV VERSION and lines that will most likely be fixed (as Mike has said)?
That's why your logic isn't making much sense, here… But then again... We are part of the anime fandom.
-
Call it testing the waters. FUNimation was not quite sure how much leeway the fanbase was willing to give them.
-
In my honest opinion the only time a funi dub is good (in certain cases) is when it's left uncut even if One Piece were to follow suit I still wouldn't like it.
-
Well, ya can't please everyone…
-
Isn't that the same for people who've been saying the english voices are better than the japanese voices.
-
and the human race in general?
-
What I meant was I hope they don't do a ton of edits and change the music like they did to Zatch Bell. Since there are only 51 episodes, I think they'll run it through to the end. Also, unlike the JP version, the English dub I believe will have the same voices as the game.
-

I agree here. What's wrong in the TV dub (Zolo, the DELICIOUS line and Bitch Robin) wil be fixed in the uncut DVDs.
-
Everybody's aware of that, the rub is that most people wish some of that stuff was in current version not the uncut version that they won't be able to see on TV.
-
Why do we care if he likes the dub or not?
He already says he's in for the DVD's subtitles, what more do you want from him?

They probably cancelled it due of low ratings.

-

It's just the reason he dislikes the dub as a whole. Edits made to the tv version and lines that FUNi said they will fix.
Wuh?
-
Even though it'll be uncut, he joined the bandwagon of people that think 'OH NOES! ALL ENGLISH DUBS LIEK RUIN THE SHOW'.
Not to offend everyone, but that's how some extreme anime dub haters think.Hello, they will change stuff for the uncut english dub DVDs. The UNCUT dub won't be the same as the dub on TV. Robin will have NO EMOTION even on the places in the TV lines on the UNCUT DVDs.
-
I watch the Dub on TV since itys the only way to see it on TV here in the US(even thought i seen all 345 ep on youtube)
I still want to support the Dub legally by buying the DVDs and stuff.
As long as the dub does not end at a certain point instead of finishing(One old show on FoxBox stopped halfway through all the episodes and never aired), I will be supporting this dub for years to come -
@Ao:

In the past 3 or 4 weeks Robin has dropped almost all emotion.
This week's episode where she said "Nami you have a serious greed problem" was delivered with a boatload of condescension and snarkiness. I definetely considered it bitchy altho not nearly as bad as she was a few weeks ago.
Personally, I love the way Unlimited Adventure was directed as far as voices. If only Funi could take a cue from that director.I wont complain if they're fixed by dvd time. Altho, now that they seem to be starting with the first batch of episodes in the series they may be taking all kinds of crazy story liberties that fans won't see in time to bitch about. Thus they'll never be fixed.
Even though it'll be uncut, he joined the bandwagon of people that think 'OH NOES! ALL ENGLISH DUBS LIEK RUIN THE SHOW'.
Not to offend everyone, but that's how some extreme anime dub haters think.lol! I love how I mentioned that I thought the WitchBlade and Negima dubs were great in this very thread and you ignored it. I even said the OP dub itself was okay…just that I was expecting much better. Especially seeing the other dubs Funi has done that have gone straight to dvd. This is a show that has great penetration into the mainstream because it's on basic cable RIGHT AFTER NARUTO and they seem to be phoning it in alot as far as production values. Especially in recent episodes.
The problems ppl are mention havent even been ones I've complained about. My main issue is the heavy dialogue changes, which I have yet to see will be "fixed" for the dvds. I dont care about stuff like Zolo or Trace since Funi has made it clear it'll be fixed for the dvds. Dialogue changes arent mistakes. They're conscious efforts by a writer to "improve" the story. Which is why it seems really unlikely Funi will just accept they suck and redub them all for the uncut dvds. Lines like delicious and the Luffy punch thing werent edited content for tv. They were flat out changes Funi chose to make. When did Funi say they would just bow to the fans and do extra work and rewrites to give them whatever they want/going back to the original?
-
Look, concerning the Skypeia episodes.
The DVDs will be edit free.
Mike has said that Robin's lines will be fixed.
So that leaves two things (Luffy's "punch" line and Sanji's "delicious" line) that MIGHT stay.
Are you really going to shun the whole dub on two lines? The whole dub?
We can't say whether or not they'll pull any of this on the uncut beginning episodes. Seeing as how Robin won't be in 'em… So that already gets rid of alot of the dialog tweaks (to which they probably won't do anymore anyways, after learning how the fanbase is taking it).
Whatever "problems" that may arrive will most likely only be far and few between.
-
I wish I could be so naive and optomistic, too…
Hopefully you're right, but we'll just wait and see.
Isn't it gonna be years before Skypiea is on dvd anyways? It's just that changes like that clearly show the line producer or whoever is in charge of
localizing this series, doesnt have the strongest grasp of what the series should be in english.
They're making it clear to me that deviations from the original story is something they're a little too
willing to do. Not to mention consciously changing character personalities, missing really obvious character traits like the way Robin addresses the crew or Luffy's running gags...
If you watch the Colleen Clickenbeard interview all that is up to a single person. It's basically their
job to decide how One Piece will presented in english and the overall "feel" of the dub and I just don't like the choices they're making and the way it's being handled. The only reason I even have these gripes is because i really want an awesome version of OP in pure english to show to people who might refuse to watch subs or not easily be swayed. Not to mention, despite what someone said, I LOVE when shows have great dubs. It's the coolest feeling to watch a show you loved in Japanese and squeel at how everyone sounds perfect and how they got it "sooo right" in english.
-
There's nothing naive about it.
FUNi has noticed that they're making Robin too bitchy. It's gonna be fixed. That already gets rid of most of the problem. Stop mentioning this.
The only dialog changes you're complaining about besides Robin's seem to be Luffy's punch comment and Sanji's delicious remark. Both… being nowhere close to each other making them few and far between. Which means they shouldn't be a big deal UNLESS there are other lines that bother you too (but since you're not mentioning them, I'm assuming these are the only ones you have a problem with other than Robin).
EDIT: Robin's problem is fixed. Luffy's mystery lines I believe were picked up on and will be added.
I don't see why you can't show people the FUNi dub. Or if your worried that it's too "edited" wait to show them the uncut version. What your complaining about is NITPICKS. Things other people are not going to even notice. Or at least notice so that it sways their opinion.
Showing them the FUNi dub is fine. The few problems that FUNi has (for the most part) picked up on should not dictate the dub a failure. And you're over exaggerating the situation.
-
FUNi has noticed that they're making Robin too bitchy. It's gonna be fixed. That already gets rid of most of the problem. Stop mentioning this.
They noticed, or did we point it out for them? It makes you wonder what they could miss if we're not there to show them.
The only dialog changes you're complaining about besides Robin's seem to be Luffy's punch comment and Sanji's delicious remark. Both… being nowhere close to each other making them few and far between.
He also mentions their lack of character specific quirks.
I can't remember, did they pick up the "Brave Warrior of the Sea" thing with Usopp?
I don't see why you can't show people the FUNi dub. Or if your worried that it's too "edited" wait to show them the uncut version.
Read his posts closer, it has nothing to do with things being "edited". But it did affect his enthusiasm to watching the show on TV.
Again, I ask. Why do you care if he likes the dub or not?
-
I hate to argue but I have to agree with RomanGod.
You think that the uncut dub (WHICH MEANS TOTALLY UN EDITED) will be like the TV edited dub, when in fact both are totally diffrent. Just because they deviated some parts doesn't mean this is the new 4Krap dub. It's still the good dub. And by watching the fansubs and reading the scanlations, the dub won't be getting any support and FUNimation may think of dropping the license.
Look, it isn't FUNimation's choice where to put the lines, they only used the "DELICIOUS" line and edited out Luffy's punch because of the damage the 4Kids dub has done. After that dub, CN is trying to keep their standard of editing, which means babying Luffy's punch and having Sanji say something diffrent. So if you want a reason why the FUNi TV EDITED dub (WHICH WON'T BE LIKE THE UNCUT DUB) is bad, partially blame the 4Kids dub. You can't blame FUNimation. They're only following the story as close as they can, with TOEI making them use edited names (WHICH WILL BE RESTORED FOR THE UNCUT DVD).
You should never tell fans "The FUNimation dub is bad, stick with the subs" because that may cause FUNimation to consider dropping the dub. And if that happens, some other dubbing company could recive it and do worse edits. They [another dub company] could also give Robin emotion, something that FUNimation is no longer doing.
And about the "Greed issues" line, well, that is the truth. Nami does have a problem with money.
(Wow, this is a long post. I didn't expect to write this much. Though, what matter does it make to you Ao Kiji, you'll always stick with the 'UNCUT DUB IS SAME AS EDITED DUB' theroy)
-
I hate to argue but I have to agree with RomanGod.

I doubt that's why they'd drop it.

I don't see how you can put the blame on 4Kids for the cons of the Funi dub
You can't blame FUNimation. They're only following the story as close as they can, with TOEI making them use edited names (WHICH WILL BE RESTORED FOR THE UNCUT DVD).
So they made them use Zolo,Mantora,Wyler,& Noland?
You should never tell fans "The FUNimation dub is bad, stick with the subs" because that may cause FUNimation to consider dropping the dub. And if that happens, some other dubbing company could recive it and do worse edits. They [another dub company]
DragonBall Z fans for the most part stuck with the Fansubs and Funi didn't drop that, also if by some unlucky break Funi did decide to drop the series part of me doubts that someone else would bother taking a crack at it.
