Seeing as Scientology has gotten a lot of attention in the media, I'm curious about how many people have had real, personal exposure to it. This is not a thread for expressing your opinions on Scientology, as there already is one: http://www.apforums.net/showthread.php?t=13122&highlight=scientology
Exposure to Scientology

-
Wait, what is this now?
EDIT: Oh, well in this case, yes. One day, by the beach, I took one of those free tests just for kicks. I forgot what my results were.
-
I'm going on March 15th.
I think that speaks loudly enough of how it's affected me. -
Robo, what have you been taking?
-
Sorry, I pressed enter before I had finished typing (damn laptop keyboard).
-
I'm here to sell you an S.
-
That's ok. You're still my hero.
-
Actually, I was in the process of fixing that when I pressed enter. :X
-
I HAVE
Met a scientologist that is, and he was an admittedly friendly guy, but his general beliefs were rather…skewed.
-
i watched the south park episode
think of the thousands i saved
-
Yea, I'm anticipating a few thousand responses like that. :P
-
Hey, I saw the South Park episode too!
-
Lol, actually in my sociology class, we were talking about the major religions of America. This little old lady, probably at least 60, was teaching the class, and was the biggest feminist, anti-racist, etc person you could meet. One of the students asked about scientology at this point, and she flat out said they were (i quote) "batshit crazy".
I was following a raid on an islamic forum by /I/, and some one tipped them off before there could be any damage done. I was watching the conversation as they began lurking on /i/, and one actually said "Also I'm thinking of monitoring their website from now and warning the people they target (unless they're scientologists, no one cares if they raid scientologists)"
and i lold both times
-
hey, taboo, i saw you type "anti-semitic"
this stuff shouldn't be hidden
-
I used to live in DC, so I've been by the national Scientology… church-place. Couple people tried talking to me, I just ignored them and went to go get coffee (to warm myself up, after experiencing the chills).
-
There's a Scientology center here, but I don't believe I've ever met a Scientologist. If I have, he or she never professed it.
I'm not really sure why they would want to anyway, the way I talk to them. I meet most people at a coffee shop downtown, and my conversations with people there are usually about books. Doesn't leave much room for "Hey I'm a Scientologist!" "Oh that's cool, I'm a Catholic."
It's… Yeah. Not something you bring up in casual conversation.
I'll put this one down as a "Probably not."
-
Is Robo a Scientologist?
PS:
And I dunno. I don't even care about the damn difference between the guys who sell cheese on the streets and live without technollogy in the middle of nowhere and the religious couples who always go around ringing doors and what not.
My acknowledging of other beliefs is pretty unexistant to say the least.
BUT I was wondering….
Does anyone know if there's a way to identify a scientologist?
-
Doesn't look/sound like it.
-
@Impel:
Doesn't look/sound like it.
Well, that's what I was wondering..
How does a Scientologist is supposed to express his toughts in public? Are they really that different from common folks?
-
No, I'm not a Scientologist. :P
I don't think scientologists are that different from normal people, but sometimes this type of thing can come up in random conversation. -
I'm sure your average scientologist isn't all that different in normal discussion, but a leader of the "church" would probably act a lot differently.
-
@Kaimei-Karasuhebi:
Does anyone know if there's a way to identify a scientologist?
You can, um… Try... Asking them?
-
Hope someone wears a xenu costume to the 15th.
-
hey, taboo, i saw you type "anti-semitic"

what i ment was anti anti semetic, but that sounded stupid typing out so i deleted the mistake all together
-
i was asked to take the dianetics test which pretty much leads to DO YOU WANNA JOIN etc etc
so i voted asked to join, but declined
-
I met a scientist in California once, I thought they were only an urban legend but this guy was pretty nutty.
-
There is only one right church:
I have never met a Scientologist, however, do I hate them for their beliefs? I don't hate them, I just think they all are retarted for believing in such crap. Of course, it could also be said for various others religions.
But not Sub Genius. Speaking of, on the 23rd it is the Feast of St. Monty Python!
-
I honestly don't know what scientology is about, aside from what I heard from South Park; and everything I hear about them is bad and these sources are questionable, so I'll just reserve my actual judgment until I've heard at least a few positives (and see if I can shoot them down)
Until then…
XENU XENU TOM CRUSE IS CRAZY AHAHAHAHHAAH!
-
lol i honestly had no idea that Scientology existed until i heard about the anonymous raids
-
must not be popular in hobo paradise, with its 2345 posts
-
At least he can spell where he lives correctly.
-
im putting you on notice, mister eskimo
-
I've read about Scientology and I've heard a lot about it in the media, but I've never met a Scientologist before.
On the other hand, a lot of you guys here on APForums sure seem obsessed with Scientology. Maybe you guys are just a bunch of covert Scientologists out to get me? Right? You can never be too sure… Just kidding! Or am I?
-
Never met one, they probably exist near my school though.
-

Just as I suspected, none of us actually 'know' someone who is involved with scientology. It makes me wonder how significant all this media exposure really is, and how it can be considered a 'real' religion if it has so few members.

I don't like to bash on anyones religion, because I know I dont like it, but Scientology does have some bizarre ideas, pratices, and not to mention it has a lot of "celebrity" members. The ideas, themselves, are worth all the media attention.

I think part of it it may be somewhat of a regional thing and/or the fact that not many people are about to go shouting it from the rooftops, especially now that their religion is getting such a bad rap from just about everyone.
If there weren't Scientologists around here, I somehow doubt that there would be a Scientology center. Considering the fact that I live in the middle of nowhere, that's kind of saying a bit.
-
Yep, I have never met a single Scientologist.
-
never.Their not here,thank goodness.
-
never.Their not here,thank goodness.
Aren't they mostly in Hollywood?
I always thought Scientology was just a celebrity fad. -
?!
I could have sworn that you said that you were a Scientologist at one point, Lobo..
…...................
-
no.
I said I think their "_ER454545VB GFD" for believing in something as insanely retarded as the Xenu story.
-
Having read very little about Scientology's beliefs re: Xenu, my only impression of it was that L. Ron Hubbard was trying to reinvent Gnosticism.
-
To the best of my knowledge and memory I have never met a scientologist, although supposedly an acquaintance's mother is one, but I've never met her.
-
got my guy fawkes mask now
just gotta get the directions to the toronto branch now -
I have never met or seen a scientologist in person as well.
-
To be fair, ive never even met a signle person who called themselves a scientologist on the net.Is there something in scientology which is apaling to them,in manga?
