Not directly comics related…
But I'm currently taking a Script Writing For Screen and Stage at my college right now, its a fascinating course because the teacher is the prototypical professor in that he's really intense, opinionated, and very wise overall on the subject, and the main project we'll be working on is writing our own script for a film. So its simultaneously terrifying as hell, and exciting as hell. Which is generally the sign that your on the right path.
While I'm writing my script with film in mind, I'm also writing it with comics in mind. I could use the thing as a debut comic story (since I don't think it would fit into my big story or anything).
Welp.
Its based off the Wu-Tang Clan! ...
In the sense that after getting into them over the summer I recognized what a great story there was in their rise and fall in the industry and how each individual member has dealt with it. Not to mention all the drama between them that continues up to this very day. There's the increasingly meglomaniac of the group de facto leader, the one member who has had consistent artistic/commercial success since the groupa s a whole fell, the members who had amazing masterpiece careers right out of the gate but have been unable to hold onto that at all, the members who have struggled to have an identity within the group let alone a career outside of it. So much great plot waiting to happend!
So I have all this great human plot, but I'm struggling to pick the industry I want the story versions to be working in, I don't want to do music like the real life basis, so Iv'e picked crime for the time being but I don't know..
Here are the write ups for the two characters who I'm focusing on the most, protagonist and antagonist.
Ghostface Killah's fictional form.
Character File : Protagonist: Daryl Cone
Daryl Cone was born in the city to a single mother family, in a low rent home in the slums with three sisters and two brothers. His father left when he was 3 leaving Daryl with no memories of the man, just hateful feelings to the one who abandoned his family and a distrust of authority figures. In the family dynamic Daryl was firmly in the middle of the age range of siblings, he had to learn to stand out based off his own merits a he couldn’t rely on young age or seniority smoothing his ride through childhood. Life was rough in the city slums, Daryl came to value the family closeness but at the same time he developed an undying hunger to grow bigger than his status as inner city poor and he knew he couldn’t do that holding onto the family too close. This grew into an inner battle between loyalty and self that haunted him in any friendship or relationship he got into. As he grew up in the slums Daryl inevitably got involved in crime of a variety of sorts and grew infamously physically strong. A shrewd yet forward man, Daryl struck a balance of skill in everything he did, learning earlier that too much of anything killed a man. He made sure to not rely on anything too heavily. He came to see crime as a necessary evil, and a ticket to leaving his undesired social status behind. At the age of 20 he met Mick Thomas, a young man with close connections to an up and coming young hotshot who was looking for a crew of good men who could help him form a collective of like minded talents. A small yet strong collective who would make a quick blitzkrieg spree of crime business that would allow them all to break out of the slums and possibly into the high life, but eventually away from crime. This man, Russell Sims had taken special interest in Daryl.
RZA's fictional form.
Character File : Antagonist: Russell Sims
Russell Sims was born into a ratty city orphanage without ever knowing his parents, siblings or any relatives for that matter. His life here was one of constant struggle, he was considerably more frail than was healthy and from an early age he learned about group dynamics as he maneuvered around the various cliques that the other children have. His attitude to family was bisected by his anger at his lack of any sort of blood relation but he couldn’t help but see the benefit of having a close knit group by viewing the cliques. He made one good friend while here, a slightly older boy named Mick Thomas. Mick was a wise and fundamentally gentle soul, he had a large build, towering over most of the children at the orphanage but was unable to wield this advantage as it was not in his nature. Russell had such skills of leadership though he had never physically been able to take advantage of it. Once the two became close they became an unchallenged duo in the orphanage. At the ages of 14 and 16 respectively they finally busted out of the orphanage after having struck fear even into the abusive staff. The streets of the slums were waiting outside and both quickly discovered they had only entered into another larger cage. Russell had full intentions to overcome even this cage. They entered into small time crime together and both eventually had small jobs with the mafia. Russell imagined that the mafia would be a quick ticket out but found that he was only being used as a puppet on a dead end road. Burned by the powers that be he and Mick left that line of work and went back to small time crime while Russell contemplated his next move. Eventually when he was 21 Russell had formulated a plan to form a small collective of like-minds and talents in order to perform what he envisioned as a blitzkrieg campaign of crime that would lead to the much sought after escape from the slums. Among the people he and Mick sought for the group was Deryl Cone.
This is all just prototype that I'm handing in to the teacher in about two hours. Hows it look.
If anyone actually has familiarity with the Wu-Tang Clan how do you feel about my choice of pro and antagonist. I fully realize that the two could be flipped. RZA could be the "hero", and Ghost the "villain".
