@Geoff-s:
Damn Funimation why can't you pronounce Luffy's name "roofy" like it's meant to be. Grr. I'll never buy your dvds.
QFT! I mean really, you guys…
Anyway, just watched my copy which arrived today. Movie itself is pretty blah. I hate the overusage of stills and rushed pacing. But I enjoyed it mostly for the dub. And while the animation isn't the best, everything looks brighter and more colorful. I'm going to go watch it subbed in a little bit.
I double checked for any kind of Easter Eggs. Even cycled through all three audio tracks at the end credits, nothing. The DVD is pretty disappointingly bare bones. I mean it's nice they left the Japanese credits intact but there's no creditless version which is odd as it's become a standard feature on DVDs. Also, going through the English credits was really boring and dead, they could've used a track from the movie's OST or even played Compass again. But no, there's just a good five minutes of silence. I hope the Season set makes up for it.
In any case, to sum up: Meh movie on a Meh DVD, but an AWESOME DUB and I'm happpy to support it as the first OP DVD in my collection.
About Caitlin Glass' singing performance, well it's been made. Maybe someone will sneak it up on YT. The same thing happened with FMA. Vic Mignogna performed one of the Japanese songs, "Brothers" but got in trouble for it because Funimation didn't properly secure the rights. That's PROBABLY what happened here.
Maybe they'll make Double Features for BluRay (like for DBZ) and have both Movies 8 and 9 bundled together with maybe a lot of the missing special features.
