I think the biggest "WTF" for me was Pokemon Trainer. His concept is still freaking awesome.
Super Smash Bros Brawl ptII

I'd had no knowledge of MGS outside of Ape Escape, so I was like "o.0"
I remember wanting Megaman and Sonic in after that.
-

Back when Melee came out, I thought of a Pokemon trainer character. Of course, it was really retarded and did things like stand there, while his Pokemon do all the work, and use Pidgeot to get back on stage. The actual Pogeymanz Trainer is a lot better concept, I think.
-
I remember alot of people on Pokemon Forums wanting Misty playable, plus alot of other human Pokemon characters. But…they wanted Misty to not even use Pokemon.
Lol.
-
I remember I was just looking up stuff about Metal Gear Solid on Wikipedia and saw that it said Snake was in the new Smash Bros game. I figured someone was just editting in crap as usual until I found the trailer.
-

How does that even make sense? I remember some tards wanting Charizard playable, and everyone laughed at them… Yeah, you can imagine how stunned I was when the Pokemon trainer's Pokemon were shown. It was just like the Leafeon thing in Diamond and Pearl...
-
Ivysaur was kind of random. I wouldn't have minded 3rd generation Pokemon Trainer, playable Blaziken would've been awesome, and we would've had playable Mudkips.
-
Fourth gen would've made the most sense, but I'd prefer not playing as Infernape. Ivysaur evolves into Venusaur, which is one of my favorite pokemon ever, so I like being able to play as it. Still kind of confused about that whole weight thing, but hopefully it's strong enough to hold on its own.
-
I dunno, I'm glad they stuck with the 1st Generation starters. It makes Pokémon Trainer feel even cooler for all of us old shits out there.
-
I think they did perfectly for Pokemon Trainer. Especially with the choice of Ivysaur over Venusaur. Venusaur's a big warty bulb monster, while Ivysaur's a medium-sized clear-skinned bulb monster.
-
Yeah, I second that. Seeing the first gen starters playable was a nice treat. This was probably the best way to have done him.
I nearly came when Diddy, Dedede, and Olimar were announced. Though the latter two were more recent, I fondly remember opening the site and seeing the NEW CHALLENGER sign come up with them underneath.
-
It was pretty much a given that the highest evolution would be Charizard, but I'm glad they chose Ivysaur over that fucking Wartortle thing.
I'll miss my potential PENIS SORE, I CHOOSE YOU puns, though.
Yeah, I 'bout sprayed everywhere over King Dedede too. Diddy and Olimar were more like: "Yeah, that's neat. Glad they did it." I've always preferred DK over Diddy, but I was really fucking glad to not see Dixie Kong with him or some stupid shit.
-
I like Wartortle better than Blastoise.
ELDERLY SQUIRTLE WITH A BIGGER TAIL
-
The Squirtle line can just go to hell, really.
-
Well, Diddy was more of "oh awesome, another newcomer, and it's Diddy"
and then later on when we saw videos of him, I got much more excited.
I also got excited as hell when DK was posted too. He really looks fucking great in Brawl.
-
I think the only character that got an "Eh" response out of me was Lucas and Ike. Ike later got points when I saw his moveset. Lucas, not so much.
Probably cause I've never touched an Earthbound/Mother game.
-
Diddy was one of the more obvious newcomers, but just seeing him in the game got me excited.
The biggest shock for me was probably Ike, only because I'm sure nobody was suspecting there to be a newcomer that day.
-
Despite how much I infinitely prefer Ike over Marth, Ike is still pretty generic, so I just sort of shrugged.
However, I have to give him credit for one of his updates revealing super armor, my new favorite thing they added to Brawl.
-
Oh shit, how could I forget Lucas.
My internet was fucking up that morning, so I couldn't see any websites (yet AIM was working). I was like "so what was the update?" to Bellamy and he goes "Lucas." And I just replied with "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and a shitload of spazzing.
God, that was so awesome.
-
Apparently we are getting the Demos at out local gamestop either this or the week after that.
-
I was expecting Diddy, and didn't particularly care about him, so I wasn't very surprised or excited when he showed up on the site.
Pokemon Trainer genuinely surprised me though. He's definitely one of the new guys I want to play as most.
-
Yeah, I definitely wouldn't mind giving him a whirl, and I'm not even really all that into Pokémon.
-
Ever since Melee, there had been just four characters I wanted in Smash Bros: Wario, Pit, Dedede, and Little Mac. The day the first trailer came out, I almost crapped myself, and then months later when Dedede was announced playable, I nigh had an aneurysm. I have had literally only one dissapointment this entire time, and that was Little Mac; but in the light of the other three, I really can't complain.
What's really gotten me pumped, though, haven't been these guys. It's been all the things I never expected, and Brawl has had a hell of a lot of them. Pokemon Trainer and Diddy absolutely amazed me, even when I considered them crappy choices before the game came out. And even besides that, little details along the way have made my day; the Halberd theme from Kirby Superstar, Diddy's FS, and so on.
Overall, though, what's gotten me most consistent hyped-up-ness has been Subspace Emmisary. Whenever my brother and I play a game, after not very long at all it ends up degrading to arguing over who gets to play when, so some awesome games have turned out more stressful than fun. However, my best memories of playing games with him come from co-op ones like Final Fight, Kirby Superstar, Donkey Kong Country, and so on, so every time we get a co-op update, I get really super hyped.
-
Pokémon Trainer was a nice surprise. I still would've liked all the generations to get represented though. (I mean at this point, we have a lot of Pokémon playable, so I don't expect any new ones.) It's not like Brawl is going to be released just before a new generation starts (like what happened with last two games) so they could've taken advantage of that.
-
There's plenty of Pokemon shit in the game
they've probably shown like a 10th of the pokeballs so far
-
Someone pointed out that Lucario probably will be out by Smash 4 in favor of a new Gen dude, same with Ike probably replaced with the new FE guy at the time.
If you think about it, Mewtwo was still kinda the "in" Pokemon back with Melee, and Pikachu and Jigglypuff are just the timeless ones. Lucario is kinda in now, so I guess Sakurai wanted him to represent the new games to appeal to both the old and new fans (or the happy medium fans).
EDIT: Yeah, I hope we don't get more playable Pokemon (we basically have 6). I love Pokemon, but I don't want them to overshadow other choices like K.Rool and Stanley.
-
Stanley the fucking bugman.
-
He'd be awesome.
I'm seriously rooting for him.
-
from the shittiest Donkey Kong game of all time
-
The only one I wanted to get in was Wario. I was dissapointed back when Melee was released and there was no sight of him at all. :(
I would have liked a…
A Lemming as the third third party character.
Too bad it's not happening.
They also had potential as AT, tough.
-
I was kinda surprised it took them this long to add Diddy Kong.
I really hope Falcon and Yoshi (whoever the hell he can get) aren't left by themselves (and ZSS is basically Samus, so her too). Then all the original franchises will have multiple characters.
-
Huh, if Stanley was in the game, he'd probably be the Assist Trophy version of Weezing.
-
symbolism?!
-
If Ridley's character model was as good as this one…
-
What the fuck is wrong with his neck.
It's made out of those Knex things.
-
I've actually seen people take the Mushroomy Kingdom as a sign of Sakurai's disrest with Nintendo's countless Mario sequels, and a blazing satire on his views on Nintendo's unoriginal, lifeless agenda of gaming.

Yeah, that's why he worked so hard on a game that celebrates Nintendo's history. Yeahhhhhh.
-
uh Sakurai was kinda forced into the directorial postion by Iwata, so he stil may have those opinons
-
Being forced to be nice around somebody you don't like is one thing. Being forced to work on a project with a major company for several years is another thing.
-
You know who would suck as a third-party guest character? Sora from Kingdom Hearts. He's basically Cloud Strife Jr.
-

It seems someone ignores the value of Money.
-

Yeah he was definitely the biggest surprise for me. It was only made better that the three pokemon he's using happened to be the best looking versions of each evolution line.
Although Lucas being revealed has been my favorite update though since it's one of my favorite franchise's characters. it was funny since that day I forgot to check the site until someone reminded me.
-
twiddles my fingers and waits …. is it Thursday yet?
-
Cool.
A demonstration of SSE Co-Op. The guy also has some other demo videos.
EDIT: I noticed PT switched everytime he got a KO. Is this like in the games when you switch after you defeat a Pokemon?
Buneary is a trophy in the new DK movie. And then something that looks like a Kamek Trophy?
-
Yeah, I think it forces you to switch on a K.O., which is pretty neat. I'm pretty sure it does that because getting K.O.'d probably restarts your Stamina meter, and it'd be lame to be able to play with CHARITART twice as long just because you died.
-

Check the PT vs. Mario video. In that one he KOs Mario as Ivysaur and stays as Ivysaur.
EDIT: He also KOs Mario again as Charizard and doesn't switch.

He's referring to the pokemon being KO'd, not them dealing out KO's.
-
Ah, I misunderstood then.
These new videos have really made me want to use the Pokemon Trainer now, though Squirtle hasn't seemed too impressive.
I can't remember a time when I anticipated a vidya game as much as this. We should be getting full leaks by the middle of the week, right?
-
Well, I was under the impression you switched when PT KO'd someone else.
I dunno if Cyringohn meant that too.
-
Don't think Squirtle is supposed to be impressive, really. He's basically the "You exhausted your two good Pokémon, so you need to learn to survive with a weak guy until you can use them again." character.
