New Official Viz Manga Discussion

Haha, Matsumoto's cleavage was edited. I really don't get Shonen Jump, it's rated T and can show cussing (or at least use to) along with blood and gore but no cleavage. XD
-
?
Certainly didn't look that way to me.
-
I'm PRETTY sure she didn't have that undershirt. Then again, been awhile since I read Bleach.
-
This month Viz is releasing a poster magazine obviously featuring nothing but Naruto. At their SJ website though they've got an online poll going asking if there's any interest in one featuring multiple SJ titles and to rank the series you'd like to see in it from 1 to 10.
It would be nice if by a small chance they do print one and it contained a color spread or two in it.
-

Yeah, they gave her an undershirt so that not as much cleavage was shown.
-
Yep, Viz edited up Rangaiku outfit in Shoenen Jump. Here the pic of the original outfit.
!
-
Wow, I hope you did that when you saved that image cause that is some god awful quality…
-
I had no idea they edited her cleavage. Those bastards. Editing those godly boobs is like blasphemy.
-
Oi oi, don't make us sound pathetic like we miss staring at giant drawn tits by some Japanese guy. We were simply pointing out an edit.
-
They've edited a few risque visuals in BLEACH before, (KonIchigo scratching himself, Shizuru squeezing Orihime's boobs) but only for the magazine.
The actual graphic novels remain unchanged.
-
Yeah, Bleach seems to be getting a lot of edits. XD
It's amusing when you think of the culture shock, in Japan these series are for young boys, but here it's too much even for a Teen rated magazine which is sealed in plastic.
I bet they'll edit Nami's towel during her Happiness Punch to only show her shoulders despite it not being all that explicit in the original manga. XD
That reminds me, did the art edits remain in the One Piece volumes? I have a feeling so, that RogueTown is in them and that Ace will have the edited tattoo.
-
Yeah, they are, along with Smoker's jacket reading 'JUSTICE' in a few panels in volume 11 and Coby and Helmeppo's shirts sometimes reading 'Misc. Chores Marine.'
I can deal with stuff like that, especially since the seem to have stopped editting out the kanji on jackets and stuff. The only thing that bugged me was how inconsistant they used to be, sometimes having an arrow pointing out the meaning and sometimes not.

@Yuugi's:
Eyeshield 21 and Death Note have/had awesom work, espicially Death Note considering the massive amount of dialogue there was only a few typos in the later three or four books and that's solely on the text retoucher guy person man.
Yes, their translation of Death Note was pretty good, but I noticed one or two errors in volume 4, which I bought this weekend. 1. They referred to Rem as "He" even though Rem is actually female. 2. Not quite sure if this is wrong, but wasn't the Shinigami who saved Misa's life called Jealous? They said "Gelus" in the Viz-version. Just wanted to mention that.

Pronunciation is a fickle thing

Pronunciation is a fickle thing
Erm, I was talking about the manga… So it's not mispronounced, just possibly mistranslated. (Or the fansubs got it wrong. I guess that's possible too.)
-

You're the one who's mispronouncing it. "G" can be pronounced as "J". So "Gelus" = "Jealous"

What? I honestly can't understand what you're trying to say here. I repeat: I am talking about the MANGA. Not the dubbed version of the anime. You can't "Mispronounce" text. They spelled his name as "Gelus" in the fourth volume of the manga, and I'm simply pointing out that that is an incorrect romanisation of his name. I just looked it up on Wikipedia. @Wikipedia:
Jealous' name is commonly misspelled "Gelus," which is what Jealous' name was romanized to until Death Note: How to Read 13 revealed the official spelling.
-
I was almost ready to bash you for looking it up in Wikipedia, but because it talks about volume 13 you redeem yourself.
-
Light didn't know of Rem's gender so I assume that's why he called Rem a 'he'.
-

There's no reason to think otherwise. LogueTown may or may not have been an example of Engrish while the Whitebeard manji has been retconned out of existence. Barring another LogueTown sign, RogueTown will remain as is and Ace's tattoo certainly will.
-
Alright, has anyone been able to get their hands on or see the first Vizbig volume of Rurouni Kenshin? Every single bookstore I go to doesn't have it.
-

Jealous and Gelus are both technically correct, it's just volume 4 was written in english before the name was romanized. D. Gray-Man is a good example of something like that happening. Where they take the characters for a name, put down the literal sounds for them and then the author puts down something completely different.
My bad for the pronunciation thing. I thought you were making a case about "Gelus" being pronounced "Ghelus".

RK omnibus number one comes out on the 29th, DarkShinobi.

Thanks, I was under the impression it was the first of this month.

I wasn't being sarcastic or anything. I was serious. She's got some awesome cleavage there.

Bleach 1Well for future reference, the official translation produced by a company for the manga is not called a "dub". That term only applies to the dubbed anime, where the Japanese voices are "dubbed" over with English voices.

Actually it goes by the bookstore. Some that let their stuff out early have it. (saw it at a Borders Express in Neshaminy Mall yesterday, as well as ES21 vol. 18 which I got)
-
Have any of the subscribers here gotten the March Issue yet? I just saw it on ebay and sure enough One Piece is on the cover. They basically took this cover from Weekly Jump and cut out everyone else.
-
Awesome! So I'll finally be able to own my first One Piece covered Shonen Jump.
-
Yay, One Piece is on the covers again!
-
I guess I should have provided a link to the auction as well. I'm not about to spend that much money though.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=350017816495&Category=50728&_trksid=p3907.m29I can vaguely make out something about a contest for the Wii game as well.
-
Well it's a start right?
-
Groan
Still waiting, kids.
-
Ah I see… Alabasta must have bumped up the ratings... I should probably get my issue sometime before Saturday...
-
Ratings…? On a magazine?
-
Any word on how many OP chapters are in it? I hope I get mine today. >_>
-

lol They could've left in Naruto and Ichigo. But I guess that would've taken away from Luffy being in the spot light for this issue, so whatever.
-
Just got it in and it looks like three new One Piece chapters as well as some game coverage, brain benders, and mention on the 'in this issue' page. Also, Luffy's on the cover. I'll update as I chew through it.
-
Weird. The last issue said they'll have info on the Alabasta movie.

Ha..
Like they'll even be telling us anything we don't already know.
-
As far as I can tell there wasn't any although One Piece was pretty much all over the place.
-
Finally, a nice-looking One Piece SJ cover.
It looks like the new dub is boosting the manga's popularity.
-
Sweet, my VizBig Ruroni Kenshin is coming in today. I haven't read Ruroni Kenshin at all, but I do remember that it was released largely unedited. I won't be powering through it, but if I come across any horribly obvious edits, I'll be sure to post those. Plus, all ViZ volumes have a sort of disclaimer at the beginning if anything was edited, so I'll post those and stuff…
I remember watching the dub of RK, and I enjoyed it, so I figured I'd just start with this and follow the releases quarterly.
EDIT: I got it. Yay. Initial impressions: No disclaimer as far as edited content. That could mean that they just aren't letting people know, but I have no idea since I haven't read RK before. I flipped through quickly and was appalled at the lack of color pages, but I just flipped too quickly. A good chunk of the 1st chapter is in color, and I'd assume there are others. There is some art at the back of the book too. No idea if it's the Kanzenban artwork or whatever. And this volume is decently heavy. So... yeah. I'm gonna read some more.
-
My volumes of the series aren't edited. Do you mind posting any pictures? I'd like to know how thick it is! Considering giving up old copies for new three-in-one.
-
I would also like to know the quality of the paper as well. Is it high-quality stuff?
EDIT: Just read somewhere else that only the first chapter has color pages while other chapters that had color pages are in black and white. Is this true?
-
Somehow wished that the cover was Bo-bobo instead of Luffy (simple reason: Denbo's song is this month)…but I'll take Luffy, no problem.
-
I noticed there were color pages in chapter one but I'm not sure about the others. I do know though that it was a HUUUUUUUUUUGE book. I'm going to have to sell my regular editions to buy this thing.
