@Really:
And the hiatus begins.
While it was a good 10 weeks, it honestly doesn't feel like much happened overall.
We got to see WHY Netero was a tough ass mofo, that made the 10 weeks chapters for me.

Yeah but all these chapters did were set up the fights. So I have high expectations for when the hiatus is over.
I don't care if the plot didn't advance much, these chapters were fucking fantastic. Togashi at the top of his craft. I'll treasure them greatly.
I don't get why people say the break's gonna be longer than a month, I mean it IS Togashi, but he's officially{?} back in the business now, so he can't really use the sick card anymore.
Honestly, if he can get away with that gigantic-ass bullshit of a "vacation" then prolonging a "month long" break should be cake.
And if I recall correctly, he was scheduled to come back in April(from an official announcement) when he was in 2 year break mode.(never heard from him again in jump until last september.)
So yea, dates and schedules mean nothing to Togashi.
There was another article up about HxH on Yahoo! Japan today. This is quite incredible, seeing how it's on the front page of a major news site along with world news, etc. (That shows you how much the Japanese love HxH). This is the second time this has happened, the first being when HxH returned to serialization.
The article is rather short, and just talks about how long the return was and how it ended. The one piece of new information, however, is that it has a quote from Togashi that was somewhere in the last Jump. According to Yahoo, he said "It will return soon." Hopefully, as fans, we can infer that this break won't be as long as last time…
For those who speak Japanese, the original article is here.
From molokidan, on nexgear.
great!

But, say those 10 chapters are only stuff he did during the 2-year hiatus, there's the possibility that he was just forced in court to release them or something. If that's the deal the breaks might not be as common.. and quality chapters with them.
Honestly it's hard to think he did get away with that hiatus, my bet is on a lot of shit happening behind the scenes, and that April announcement was really supposed to happen.
I honestly think he's just really good friends with the head editors at Shueisha.
If only that was it.. we'll just have a chapter the week he finished it, randomly in an inconsistent pace.
Sounds like a good idea actually. I wouldn't mind.
What
…..................
I think he's saying he would want random chapters when they are made, as opposed to releasing them all at once at a later time.
Man =(
You don't have to beat my English that hard =(
So, various sources have it that Viz has licensed the anime of HxH (and Monster to boot). Would these sources be correct?
EDIT: Such as this source:

Legit or Bullshit?
Although this is exciting news….... I'm gonna have to hold off until more reliable sources chime in, hopefully confirming it.
The safe route. The way of true men.
The manga is liscensed so it isn't a leap of faith to believe the anime did too.

YOu could have just linked us to the actual source, instead of a forum post linking the source.
and yea, I guess it is true.
Doesn't mean the shows will make it on TV though(Monster might make it on adult swim, but I doubt Hunter will.)

I posted the wrong link and only noticed it when you said something. I meant to post the one you did.
damn I'd have hoped FUNi got it since they handled Togashi's other work really well
Boy, HxH sure is gonna look dated coming out now.

I don't think Hunter is really as marketable as Yu Yu.
I see this being a straight to DVD release going under the radars like Ippo.
Boy, HxH sure is gonna look dated coming out now.
Yea.
I may buy the DVD's anyways though
I was kinda hoping Funi would get it too. Hopefully Viz will do just as well. And I'm curious as to how they'll market this series (if at all) since I can't put a finger on what demogrpahic they'd target this at.
And in the unlikely event of it ended up on Toonami, I honestly don't think it'll do well. It takes a while to catch steam and I don't know if people will really give it a chance.
On the other hand, might be interesting to see if people start noting the similarities between it and Naruto. And I'll end on that note
I guess it won't be much different then when Dragonball came out. Dragonball came out after DBZ and it look incredibly dated.
But it probably won't be as popular as anything out, especially since there's no super powered demons for a while.
Yeah, the whole Hunter Exam may turn away a lot of people. Especially if they're airing an episode a week. That's over 6 months of Exam.
It's the same thing as One Piece in America. Skypiea is gonna turn off so many people. It's all story, and the general anime fan wants action, action, action. The fights don't get cool until the end of the arc.
Shows like DBZ, YYH and Naruto all start with BAM FIGHTS.
Actually, YYH doesn't really, but you can tell it's gonna have some crazy stuff.

Dragonball rode on the coatails of Dragonball Z.
and yea, I can't possibly see them putting it on TV. It's not "dark" enough for adult swim , but I don't think it's toonami material.
but at least Monster has a chance.

Exactly.
That, and with my experience with the anime, the Hunter Exam actually seemed pretty lighthearted and tame compared to YuYu. With a little censoring, it would've been perfect toonami material. Much to surprise, York Shin rolled around, and my previous assumptions if the series went down the shitter. Head-lopping galore.
That said, it'd be interesting to see how the series is marketed.
There's always a chance HxH or Monster could show up on a network other than CN/AS. For example, even though I only have basic cable, where I live both Sci-Fi and AZN show some anime, in addition to CN/AS.
Sci-Fi likes to show Fantasy as well as Science Fiction(for all their programming, not just anime), and I think HxH might do well on it's ani-mondey lineup. It would certainly be a much better show than most of what they show. Monster would be a good fit for AZN I think. Of course, I'm not sure how many people even get AZN, it's a weird network.
Regardless of where/if HxH and Monster are shown, if they are licensed it means DVDs should be made available, and that alone is enough to make me happy.
I think Hunter being on the Sci-Fi channel would hurt more than kids going JANKENPON at the mall due to Hunter obsession.
Alot more.
but yea, I wouldn't mind owning Greed Island on DVD.
Alright, I started on this series last night and I'm in the middle of the Battle Tower arc. A few impressions:
I really like Leorio, but I'm trying not to get too attached since I know he's pretty much useless later on.
Kurapica seems like the biggest fag ever. And from what I've heard about him later on, he'll reinforce this sentiment a lot.
I like Killua a lot more than I though I would. His family's awesome, too.
Most of the other people in the Hunter Exam were fags. That fatass with the square nose stayed around much longer than he should have.
I also like Hisoka more than I thought I would, but I'm still kind of half and half on him. I think it's his assumed pedophilia.
This Battle Tower arc is pretty fucking boring so far. Mostly babble about training and the retarded cheating trio. The only part I really liked was Hisoka killing that loser with the duplicates, and how Togashi pretty much devoted half of a chapter to explaining how he did it. But like I said this is child's play compared to wading through LONGFUCKINGCHAMP
I hope this Nen shit makes more sense soon.
I think I'm going to miss Gon's fishing pole.
The next arc's more exciting and epic, but the one after's pretty much another competition thingy, plus more training with needlessly complicated nen explanations.
The one after THAT, though, is the best arc in the series so far, and makes the whole ride worth it.
York Shin's a really great read. It's only the precursor to a much bigger arc, but it manages to out shine it in every way.
Yea.
Then they go back to playing little games again. :getlost:
If the next arc turns out to be another game, I'm gonna cry.

Your thinking pretty much the exact things I was when I first read battle tower.
All you need to know about nen is that it allows them to make powers, and there are six types. Pretty much everything else you get later through examples and better translated explanations of other shit.
and I liked Greed Island better than York Shin.
Also when you get to about volume 20(I think it's like chapter 200 or something) ask someone for the HQ scanned volumes.
Unless you want stick figures and scribbles to bias your opinion of the series.
Yeah the scans are pretty goofy so far.
Judging from one panel they left untranslated in the first volume I'd say they ganked the French volumes and translated from there (at least partially)
Second-hand translation leads to hilarious results (JoJo Part IV)
I'm getting the hang of Nen, but it's just this babble about REN and TEN and HATSU and this other shit that pops up (though as far as I can tell, they're really secondary)
All you really need to know is that Zetsu is erasing your presence, and Hatsu are special moves.
Only times the other practices are mentioned really, is other training and explanation sequences.
If you really give a shit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nen
but you probably don't, and it's not that important.
Nen will become really simple to understand once Togashi starts exploring with some of the actual ''abilities.'' (You'll understand what I mean later.)
At first, it seemed pretty tedious, but once Greed Island hit, I really appreciated more than the typical ''aura/spirit energy/ki'' staple of other Shonen.

I almost stopped where I was when I got to this page
and I'm pretty sure I heard Hisoka's fancies get worse

They get more comical later though.
I'll find my favorite one on onemanga real quick, since it's not really spoilers.
Edit:
!
One of the very few times the series made me laugh.
Well…
! He does put a telescope up to his penis later.
I really wouldn't say his lust is pedophillic, he just gets arousement from anyone with impressive Nen. (It explores that a bit in the next arc.)
I'm guessing that's the scene where Hisoka checks out some 12 year old ass.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU TO, TONY-KUN.
I feel kinda gay myself posting all these.
but it's because I just re-read, I SWEAR
Togashi's writing's always been full of ambiguous perverted subtext, even back in YYH. Don't see the point of the denying that. Doesn't make Hisoka any less threatening and twisted to me.
Wow, Togashi, way to kill off one of the 2 or 3 of those Ryodan fags I actually liked.
I kind of like how this series can have several chapters devoted to fucking BORING shit like bidding and antique appraisal and still have it be interesting and addicting.
Seriously I'm in the middle of Gon and Killua trying to sell this goofy treasure and I can't stop.

Yeah, he definitely took a leaf out of Araki's book. The scene where Joseph haggles with Steely Dan is one of my favorite scenes in Part III
And HOLY SHIT Carter finally got around to HxH?
You're still on my path of thought.
Yeah man
Its like the weirdest thing….I never read more boring crap in a shonen fighting manga in my life. And yet i enjoy it and keep reading
I would stop immediately for any other manga
Eh, I was always fine with Uvogin's death (Fuckin' Boneferu is where it's at.)
The thing I love about scenes like the auction is how well Togashi manages to develop the characters in mundane tasks outside of fights. Seriously, some of the scenes in the gambling deals and later events in Greed Island give so much more depth to Gon's character, even if he's just doing something as dull as asking a guy for directions.
