Kathy Griffin is a jackass, I won't argue there. But my question was about films themselves, not the personal opinions of stars or comedians. I just haven't seen strong themes of religion bashing in very many films, so I wouldn't consider that a trend. You mention documentaries and anti-war films, but which ones? Have there really been that many? Regardless, these types of movies make up a relatively small percentage of films produced today. And Michael Moore films? I mean no disrespect but you must be misinformed here. His films have had almost nothing to do with religion and he certainly doesn't take pot shots at the subjects. Moore himself is a member of the Catholic church, I believe.
I Am Legend.

I'd just ask you to remember what I said originally please. I said 'Hollywood', not films specifically. Also, you mentioned 'film industry' so I responded in turn to that. We cool?
-
Oh sorry, I just misunderstood. I thought originally that you were saying that movies themselves have taken on many anti-religious themes lately. I did say 'film industry' but I really meant the films themselves. My bad.

I just saw this movie with some friends. I never really liked Will Smith (I hated Fresh Prince) or his movies until I saw this one. Everything was done really well, and Smith did a good job. The ending was a bit unpleasing. It left me feeling the same as when L died, but good nonetheless. The only bad thing about the movie was that we sat next to a big ass group of Asians who talked the whole motherfucking time. Dumbfucks.
I find the people who found the whole God reference unecessary and lame, retarded. Does having a small God reference really ruin a movie that much? It's silly that people are so anal about these things.
On a semi-side note, the Dark Knight Trailer was lame. Health Ledger as the joker…do not want. Jack Nicholson as the Joker sounds much much better.

I think we were in the same theater and saw it at the same time (SF, AMC Van Ness, Wednesday around 2). The big group of Asians sat directly behind me and my friends.

No, sorry. I was at Century Theatres in Daly City, but I did see it at 2:50.
It's funny, when we got out out the theatre room, we entered mini Manilla. Filipinos everywhere.
-
I suppose the bay area is just plagued with large groups of really annoying movie-goers. This is like the 4th time in the past few months I've been to a movie, and there's a large group of really obnoxious people. (And not the usual movie-goer annoyance, but like, they'd be kicked out if staff were around)
-
Saw it and throughout the whole movie I was waiting for this God moment/reference/thing and now I'm disappointed.
There wasn't thundering sky and deep bass voice echoing through walls and rocks saying "Yo, this is God, obey!" but instead there was this latino chick who said "So, see Mister, God liek told…" and then Will Smith's character went "LOL". And that's about it. It's open for your own interpretation or whatever. What a bummer.
Otherwise. Yeah, it was pretty nice. The ending wasn't the greatest thing ever, it did left a foul taste in the mouth because it was so abrupt but there were alot of good moments in it. Everything related to the dog was fantastic. Still, little more lenght wouldn't had hurth.
-
Well, I'm going to go see this tomorrow. Hopefully it will live up to everyone's taste in movies.
-
So there ought be a sequal: http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=4164

Well, someone my Mom works with made a bootleg DVD of the movie for her and I just finished watching it. Perfect boot, just like American Gangster which another person she works with did for her. Each boots had their problems tho, American Gangster was widescreen squished into fullscreen, and I Am Legend had skipping video (both probably poor encoding).
I enjoyed the movie, I must say while it wasn't "scary" per-say it had it moments and some hefty suspense in the first half. Definitely interesting to see Will Smith in this type of movie. I have to agree with everyone else in this thread, fricken awesome first half and poor second half.
The ending did suck pretty bad, tho I thought
! the self sacrifice was handled nicely.
One thing I didn't like was how cheap the CGI was, sure the infected looked nice in their own aspect, but they didn't fit in.
-
I actually liked the ending, with the sick laying siege to the house, and Will sacrificing himself, thoughI saw that coming. He had the cure to life for, but once that was accomplished, I sure as hell didn't want him to hook up with the girl or whatever. Heros' death worked for me.
I thought it was an awesome movie; Smith was superb, and for a nearly action-less movie, it had me on the edge of the seat often; The scene where he got tricked, when he wandered around the Nest, Oh man…
And even though the dogs fate was crystal clear (From the moment "infected dogs" were mentioned) it was damn sad, and it had a fair share of other moving scenes. -
Yeah, I must admit I really liked that he didn't end up getting romantically involved with the new woman. That was a breath of fresh air.
-
Even though you could tell it was going to happen…
! Did anybody not cry when the dog sacrificed himself?
! .__. Will Smith's death wasn't even sad. But that dog D= -
Thank you Lobster Pot-Sticker, for using spoiler tags to conceal what was going to happen in the movie and not ruining the movie for the poor souls who just want an 'Average Joe's Opinion' of the movie. It's really thoughtful and considerate of you.

Greg, I think the Christian angle that the girl introduced is just fine, seeing as how a catastrophic event happened in the movie that practically wiped out humanity. Some people react differently to such a tremendous tragedy (as portrayed in the seen between Smith and her).
Hell, people can see Divine Intervention in virtually every circumstance in the real world. Surviving an epidemic on that scale would either make it seem that The Big Guy Upstairs has some plan for me, regardless if that was the case or just being incredibly lucky….if you would call fighting day-to-day with horrific vampiric zombies 'lucky'.
-
Alternate ending.
Wow.
I wasn't actually opposed to the one they chose for the film, but wow, what a difference…
-
I kinda liked the film one more than that
-
It's probably because I've read the book but it didn't change much for me. It may have been a slight improvement but no more than that.
The woman shouldn't have been in it at all. If they had gone for that ending then the title of the film would have been pointless, what "legend" would he be? There are other humans, he isn't the last, he did nothing special, other then engage the monsters. All in all I wasn't impressed by the movies attempts to be like the book but in trying so hard, miss the point entirely.
But thank you for posting the link.

hush, Greg. It's ok. come on, give us a hug.

Frank! You Better Tell Me If You're Real!
-
Alternate ending FTW..
Even thought it didn't follow the book either, it was still much better then the theater version.
-
The movie started of good, but the ending was just stupid. Last man on earth?! It was just a cheap, typical good and cliche ending. I hope Will Smiths next movie (
) will be better. -
Hm, I can't say either ending is better than the other…but the final ending was probably the best one to use cause it actually establishes his legend.
-

Yeah, but wasnt he the reason for all of this? He created the cure for cancer and it turned out to be a zombie virus.
And what happend in the alt. ending? The video is not working.
-
The big bad infected guy ultimately settles down, smearing his hand prints forming a butterfly (opposed to the glass breaking forming it). Robert puts his gun down, brings the infected chick out, revives her, big bad infected guy takes her and leaves with the other infected.
Robert, the chick and the boy drive away happily ever after.
Also, I don't remember but was it ever established that Robert was the one who made the supposed cancer cure?
-
No, he doesn't cause the virus.
The doctor that appears on the TV is the one who creates the cure for cancer that ultimately leads to the virus.
-
the thing is…something like this can really happen...

It already has.
We're the second generation.

YEAHHH, theres no doubt that I'll the dvd. It have some stuff in it that will for sure make it much more better then the theatrical version.
Anyway, come to think of it, theres seem to be to much movies that have this kinda genre…not to mention books
