i forget monkey man? we're still talking hey arnold, right?
Monkey Man's the guy who kicks bullies' asses the hard way and asks questions later ^^

Remember the episode where Helga can't take seeing Arnold every and asks for a potion to get rid of it? She takes it and after a weird dream sequence, she pulls out one of her poetry books; reads it and says and I quote: "What is this crap?"
Yep, thats what I said, nothing beyond the word "crap".
Man, I pray for the day this show gets released on DVD.
Favorite Characters (in no order)
–Phil, (Arnold's Grandfather)
--Ernie
--Mr. Hyun
--Stinky
--Gerald
I would have liked to have seen Fuzzy Slippers he was the guy gerald got all the info from they never actually showed him.
I really wished Nickleodeon didn't cancel all of their shows that year (Invader Zim included) especially without a final episode. The HelgaxArnold episodes were all my favorites especially, Valentine's Day and the episode where they were dreaming they were married. I also like the episode where Arnold visited his cousin Arnie in the country.
i forget monkey man? we're still talking hey arnold, right?
In earlier episodes, you could hear some random guy screaming "Monkey Man!" somewhere in the city, but later they made it into a character, a sort of powerless superhero who beat up bullies and couldn't talk without randomly slipping "Monkey Man" into his sentences.
Helga is suposed to be like Usopp in the looks department. not perfect. That's part of her charm. And her personality was all about dealing with her feelings. Sometimes, being a kid, you think, you have to act a certain way or no one will like you. Helga decided she needed to be in charge, or no one would like her. (power = popular) If she wimped out and followed her "wimpy" feelings everyone would think she was a looser, in her mind. It was the battle between her feelings, and her popularity (at least she thought she was popular) Obviosly, morally, she thought it more important to be popular, rather than follow her feelings. That was her charicter flaw, we are suposed to learn from.
I thought she was mearly being assertive so people would listen to her, Since when she was younger all her parents paid any attention to was her older sister olga.
What I wouldn't give for an animated Calvin and Hobbes….

oh ya, I forgot about olga. It's been quite a while since I've seen it. Ya, the Olga angle deffinitly applies, but the points I brought up apply as well. That's what gets me into a show. having such complex charicters like that.

Yeah the amazing thing was they were only 9
are you agreeing with me, or making fun of me o_Oa

I was just saying that they were such characters for just 9 year olds.
Oh yeah, the good 'ol Hey Arnold. Never saw the ending, though. =/

Eh.. it's probably best there isn't one.
Hey Arnold was indeed was one of the classic Nicktoons series as well with Angery Beavers, Zim, Rocko, AHHH! Real Monsters, and of course the Classic days of Rugrats before Dil, and Kimmie came in and ruin the show .
My favorite character on Hey Arnold is Grandpa "Steely" Phil, he made the show so great, and funny. I still love the segment of the Veteran Day episode, with Phil defeating The Germans, and giving the lead German general in the story, a wedgie. xD
Necrobumping this thread lol.
I liked Hey Arnold too, the school play episode was a riot (5 minute kiss scene XD). The movie wasn't good at providing closure to Helga's secret though because Helga confesses to Arnold then claims at the end that it was just "the heat of the moment." I still liked the scene where she confessed though ("Oh, come here you big lug!").
In fact, tvtropes.org's entry for the "tsundere" anime character type cites her as a non-anime example:
- Helga in Hey Arnold. Commonly found reciting elegant, romantic poetry one second, then swiftly turning to deliver an harsh insult or bash someone's teeth out the next.
It would be interesting if Francesca Smith (who does Helga's voice) would voice Louise in the ZnT dub ^_^
Orginally in the first season he liked ruth (she was way older than him) but he found out she already had a boy friend.
No, what happened with Ruth was he got her to go out with him, but he found out that they had absolutely nothing in common, and she wasn't his type. Kinduv a downer for a valentines day episode. It was also the first episode where Ruth talked.

Really? I remember them being at some table and she thought he was a bus boy.

And if I'm not mistaken, the only episode.
Hey Arnold really disappointed me. The show was probably the most sophisticated Nicktoon ever, and dealt with some very real issues, such as Helga's desire for her parent's love. That 2004 movie was supposedly the finale, since Helga finally confesses her love for Arnold. It was still lame.
But that's Nickelodeon for you. Their money has always been in the repeats. They make 2 or 3 season of a show, cancel it, and then show the repeats endlessly.
I liked hey Arnold. It's a shame what happened to it. No show deserves to end on a cliffhanger. I never even saw the last episode and I probably never will now. Unless they make DVD boxsets. have they done that yet?
Was it Hey Arnold that had a episode where they look for treasure on an island or something.
Or the birdman one.
little known fact. arnold's jungle filming parents are none other than the thornberries.
Really? I remember them being at some table and she thought he was a bus boy.
Well, he was around long enough to talk to her, and he was bored out of his misery and fell out of love with her.
Unless they make DVD boxsets. have they done that yet?
No, it's not on DVD, and unless a miracle happens, it never will be. And that sucks, cuz I would kill for a Hey Arnold DVD release.
every time I go to Cub Foods they have the Hey ARnold the Movie VHS for like $5… I would if I had a working VCR
actually, Hey Arnold was supposed to have a second movie where he goes to find his parents, and also there was supposed to be a more mature series called The Pataki's that would have been set 6-7 years later and focused on Helga's family issues.
every time I go to Cub Foods they have the Hey ARnold the Movie VHS for like $5… I would if I had a working VCR
I'll see if I can't upload it to youtube
Every other episode focused on Helga's damn family issues though
i remember the one where they get some goofy immigrant nanny and Helga plants stolen jewelry in her room and gets her fired and sent back to Mexico
but like, I think it would be with out Arnold anywhere. He'd be in south america with his parents or something
Anyway, it'd be worth it to see how everybody grew up, but even though I like Helga alot, I can't really say how I feel about a whole show about her family… the creator probably realized he wanted to do more with her after the characters developed.
And the one where Olga goes to Alaska after Helga made her to realize what a bitch her boyfriend was.
But yeah, I dunno how Nick would have handled such a series. By the time of Hey Arlond! they have stopped to air stuff like Ren&Stimpy, didn't they?

Austria actually. (Or some country around the Alps)

You're thinking of two different episodes. Olga goes to Alaska because Helga hated her as a teacher in her school. The other one Helga just exposes Olga's boyfried to be a freeloading prick coupled by a "you look out for family whether you like them or not" moral.

it was supposed to be on MTV, not Nick actually. I guess there, you wouldn't have to hide the fact that her mom is a drunk and Mr. Simmons is a flamer
HA! got cancelled suddenly, so I don't think the show got any farther than the idea stage.
Helga always kind of annoyed me. Then again none of the reoccurring characters really stood out for me outside of Grandpa Phil and Curly in that that one episode where he framed Eugene.
Steely fucking Phil was the shit. He could falcon punch a shark, make all day rants about that good ol' Jimmy, and really shove the meaning of 'beat the living shit' into oscar.
Yeah, Phil always was one of my top favorites in the series, watching it as I grew up. Monkey man also.
I was upset when they made a whole episode about Monkey Man and the thing that really annoyed me was when Chocolate boy stopped eating chocolate. Characters like that should NOT change and should just remain in the background.

"All I could think about was Eugene! Writing with my pencil. EUGENE biting on the eraser! And EUGENE Sharpening! Sharpening! Sharpening!! And when he finally gives it back to me "oh here curly~" Like it was no big deal!"
oh yeah i forgot, Curly was the shit XD
i liked the one where he locked himself in the Principal's office

Kind of died a little inside when I saw it. Ruined his uniqueness for me.

One of the Best scenes ever, second to any Phil scene that is. Hell, Curly in any ep was fucking funny.
I remember the one where he declared they paint red tiger like stripes on themselves and go free the animals in the Zoo, then Helga said sarcastically "sure we will all meet you there" and he runs off laughing manically, and at the end of the episode he's riding a giraffe still laughing with all the animals from the zoo running down the street.
Or when he locked himself in the Principal's office cause he didn't get the chance to pick up the balls at the end of recess, then took Arnold as a hostage and demanded soda and sub sandwiches… Yeah Curly was awesome.
EDIT: Also didn't Chocolate Boy get addicted to something else and it started giving him hives or something? And yeah the Monkey Man episode sucked, I didn't mind an episode dedicated to him and his insanity but the fact that they started "Exploring" his character and "changing" his outlook and such was annoying. The bird man was hillarious though, especially the "I'll be there" speech XD
@DougyDougyGiro!*:

Or the birdman one.
There were two episodes like that in the first season I think, "Wheezin' Ed" and "Pigeon Man".
The Monkey Man episode was my favorite, if i'm not mistaken I think Monkey Man was voiced by Andy Dick.
Ah, yes, I remember Hey Arnold. That was one of my favorite shows. Shame they cancelled it the way they did. There were so many awesome characters and scenes…

Yeah
when I was a kid I think I liked Sid for some reason. What a little weiner.
some of the residents in the boarding house were awesome, too.
But yeah, Grandpa all the way
"Road Trip" reminded me of Tommy Boy when Tommy and that one guy (I forgot his name but I know David Spade played him) were singing in the car and didn't realize they were in the wrong lane of traffic. That episode was pretty much proof that Miriam gets drunk.
Helga was my favorite character though. Second favorite was Rhonda.
ah, memories of the good old days~
I kinda liked how Hey Arnold would have episodes made for the minor characters though.
Harold got a few, Stinky got some, Helga got alot, Ruth got some, ect. Even fucking Iggy got some. And then alot of other characters too.
I think my favorite was Dino Spumoni though.
Man, Hey Arnold is like the new Doug nowadays.
I approve.
Hey Arnold was an okay show. It had a lot of potential. Some of the characters really pissed me off though, especially Sid. He was, in my opinion, the most despicable of the kids because he was always using people and stabbing them in the back. He never apologized to anyone whenever he fucked up. Even Harold and Helga managed to apologize a few times. Sid never did.
It's too bad that second movie was never made to finalize the whole series and bring closure for Arnold. Likewise, I wish that series "The Patakis" saw the light of day. If only the bigwigs at Nick weren't such assholes.
I made a fanfic based on Harold a long time ago on GameFAQs and reposted it on Fanfiction.net. Here's the link:

Thats why he is so awesome. It would ruin his character if he didn't act like that
Brainy, guys
brainy
"What are you doing here on this deserted island all by yourself?!"
"…breath breath... stuff."
Thats why he is so awesome. It would ruin his character if he didn't act like that
I see your point that if Sid was a good person that would destroy the whole point of his existence. XD I never liked him though.
I always wanted Sid to get his ass kicked really badly by Torvold or Harold. He deserves it!
