You do know that Brayanaftoons only does what he does to rile you guys up, right?
Anyways, that Fried Dynamite thing is sopposed to be the replacement for "Fridays". It's not going to air on Saturdays, so don't worry, One Piece will be safe.

Then we can find the ratings for 4K!Ds last episode, and subtract the difference. Then maybe the difference will represent what percentage of One Piece fans we really are.

Comedy isn't everything…
Was I the only one that found the Funi dub to be more… well, funny, as well?

Duh. I mean, there were some funny lines in the 4Kids dub at times (I still love Zolo's "Now I've lost COUUUUUUNT!"), but it was just so full of non-funny annoying puns that, well you get the picture.FUNi's dub will (hopefully) not have the problem, as it's shown from this first episode, so, it'll be a good deal more funny.
@Lobster:
Dubbie #2 (not a rant, but I thought it was interesting)
"Wow, it looks like One Piece got new voices like Pokemon ^^"
^(I guess that's all they noticed? =/)
I don't know why but that was really funny
anyway I'm not seeing this "dub hate" by anyone like some are talking about. A few people seem to have a hard time adjusting, but IM betting within a few weeks they'll be taking their words back. (maybe not the generic anime guy but…)
I didn't know the 4kids dub had any characters. I must have missed them somewhere between the accents and the puns.
That was hilarious.
Just to let you guys know I was underwelmed by Naruto, YYH, and Yu-gi-oh's dub when I first seen them
The yuyu dub hit the friggin ground running. Justin Cook had studied and has the perfect take on Yusuke and it paid of soooo well when he took over as the voice! It was such a perfect fit, I honestly am glad he doesnt take on lead roles except for that one. It's too hard to see him as anyone but Yusuke even from the very first episode. I'd like to point out that I completely called it with Nami's voice. I actually prefer her Asuna over the Japanese one, which almost never happens, especially with female voices! She was the only one I was completely positive about from the beginning.
After watching and watching the episode, I dont have any problems with any of the voices. I think once Colleen has to do super serious stuff, she will either completely settle into the character or completely ruin it. It's a time will tell kinda thing. She seems to be a very competant actress and I don't mind the tone, altho it could be lighter(which it is sometimes). Eric Vale's Sanji is the only real problem here as I've only seen him play characters with really soft sounding and youthful voices. Which is kinda the opposite of Sanji.
Why people like the 4kids dub is beyond me, but eh.
I loved Funi's dub and can't wait for the next episode.
Lol, I'm pretty sure this guy is a dubbie… He commented on the video of the Funi intro I uploaded to YouTube saying:
This new intro is very un-pirate-like. The only really good part of it is the intro with the old man talking.
Mmm, Gold D. Roger sounds like Santa Clause IMO. But it's in a good way. I'm surprised the dubbies don't seem to notice the Straw Hats attacking the screen though, during the first part of the intro. Is it too fast?
Another dubbie comment:
awsome but I will miss "YA YO"
That's the spirit, I suppose ^^;
Another win for Turke-I mean, Vic Mignon.

Hmm, I dunno. I thought her Luffy sounded very beleivable when he told Zoro to let Bellamy beat them up in the third episode at the premeir. So I'm not all that worried about it, but of course all of you guys will have to see for yourself. :happy:
Was I the only one that found the Funi dub to be more… well, funny, as well?
Of course, the Japanese One Piece is hilarious and FUNimation is dubbing the comedy that was from the Japanese version, and they're doing a very good job to. The majority of 4K!Ds jokes and puns weren't taken from the Japanese script and were just retarded, not to mention there were so many of them.
I think the 4K!Ds version is just a poor attempt at trying to make One Piece a funnier series' than it is, but I have laughed at only a couple of their jokes. The Japanese One Piece made me laugh jsut as much if not more than I did when I was reading the Dragon Ball manga.
And you know what else is surprises me? That you believed him.
Again, that block is not going to bump off Toonami. Stop worrying about it. >_>
@Ao:
Oh, I'm basing that on the fan reactions I always see during Funi panels involving OP. Pretty much any mention of Usopp gets the loudest and most screams from fangirls. Luffy, ironically seems to be the character fans are LEAST enthusiastic about during those things.
Actually it really wasn't like that…I think you're thinking of just the VA announcements, in which the case was that people were bigger fans of Sonny Strait than Coleen Clickenbeard.
Oh, and about the negative reactions...I know it's hard for us to comprehend it, but there really are people out there that like the 4kids dub. Put yourself in their shoes for a moment...for most people, a sudden change causes a negative reaction no matter what. But if they really like One Piece, then I think they'll find themselves getting hooked into it even more once the shock of the transition wears off.
I'm pretty sure Colleen will do serious scenes extremely well. The way she talked when Masira broke through the wall was perfect, just add some anger in there, and you got a perfect pissed Luffy.
If anything, the only thing I hope out of the dub now is they can do the funny moments with face faults good enough. :D It was perfect with Nami, so really, I shouldn't need to worry there. =)
-Zera
that doesn't surprise me at all actually
i was watching the episode on english sound and watching KF's episode side by side, I KNOW KF isn't professional and not 100% accurate but it looks like for the most part, FUni got the script dead on, even the "Don't throw that at me you idiot!"
Does the Bellamy premire ep have blood in it?

Yeah, the only one I don't think they'll be able to pull of very well is Zoro. We saw one of his classic yelling moments in the last episode. He yelled "We can't do that!!" when they said they were gonna salvage the ship. I just think his voice is a bit to deep to pull it off like the Japanese Zoro did. But I still think it's funny nevertheless.
Why are people so obsessed with blood? :wassat:
Im just saying. I hope FUNi doesn't mess up thoses scenes were Luffy and Zoro get owned. Imagine not bleeding fter THAT impact.
Does the Bellamy premire ep have blood in it?
Yes, but a goot bit of it will be edited.
Why are people so obsessed with blood? :wassat:
Because it's mondo cool.
Why are people so obsessed with blood? :wassat:
I think I know why. I found this picture of Snowmint from a reliable source. shiftyeyes

One Piece fans are all psychotic hitmen who get pumped up for their jobs by the mere sight of cartoon blood.
@Lobster:
^Yea, Hikaru E is actually the worst animated opening of the series. Not the first 5 seconds, but pretty much everything else after that. You can actually see the lack of framerate when they do the 360 degree view of the ship.
But regardless, I still love the intro. Heck, ^^ I love it even though it is my least favorite opening and closing (that's how much Funi improved it). Imaginge how amazing it will be when they do "Believe", or "Bon Voyange", or… the ending "A to Z" :D
I want to hear they're version of Sogeking's theme, If it anything like Hikari E it will be awesome haha
that doesn't surprise me at all actually

And what wasn't just like the original was well-written, as well. Including some good Usopp lines like, "it's a skeleton dead-guy!" Nice to see Eric Vale in the writing credits. He was a writer on Desert Punk and that dub was hilarious.
You know, one thing worries me, speaking of edits, etc. The scene where Bellamy beats down Norland and the monkies. At one point Norland takes a long drag of his cigarette–how's that going to turn out?
They'll probably either edit to make it look like he's just putting his hands to his face to ponder, or cut the scene entirely.
Hmm, I dunno. I thought her Luffy sounded very beleivable when he told Zoro to let Bellamy beat them up in the third episode at the premeir. So I'm not all that worried about it, but of course all of you guys will have to see for yourself.
Well that's a serious moment, so like I said, we'll see. That scene happens within the next three episodes? I thought it was like 5 episodes away for some reason..
Actually it really wasn't like that…I think you're thinking of just the VA announcements, in which the case was that people were bigger fans of Sonny Strait than Coleen Clickenbeard.
I was thinking of the Funi panel with the director and character designer for the anime, and how when he mentioned he liked drawing some other character there wer emabe three or four cheers. When he mentioned Usopp as his other favorite character to draw, like ten people cheered. And @ acen 07 when I went to this late nite panel where they make fun of your favorite series, the guys on stage were making fun of EVERYTHING and everyone sorta laughed and stuff. When they got to One Piece and made fun of USOPP's face and said he was "genetically engineered to fail", srsly, like half the crowd(mostl female fans)let out this huge "AWWWWWW! T_T" I laughed and thought "Just like Arlong Park" I think a few girls let out a "Leave Usopp alone!" And stuff like that.
It was apretty funny joke too. Something about how OP is a kewl series full of all these really kewl characters, the guy who fights with three swords AT ONCE! Cool! The Chef who uses purely kicks to fight! COOL! Then you get to this character called "Usopp" who's like GENETICALLY ENGINEERED to fail. Something something..the reindeer doctor's even cooler than that! something he always needs help and his biggest failure is that face! Someone really needs to help him out with that. If that doctor wants to save a life, he should learn plastic surgery and help out Usopp ASAP! etc..etc..something like that but funnier. They had pretty good burns for like every series.
I liked the one for Welcome to the NHK: "You're watching an anime about a shut-in. Enjoy your future."
They'll probably either edit to make it look like he's just putting his hands to his face to ponder, or cut the scene entirely.
Ohh gosh. Imagine if Funimation Norland was edited to hold up a lollypop/popsickle, in place of lighting his cig, when he said that speach towards Bellamy. I swear that it would be the greatest moment in animation history~
(they should do it, just for kicks)
"Leave Usopp alone!"
aww =3
Usopp's dub was pretty good, Zoro's sounded a bit too deep but anyway the dub is great. I can't wait until they go back and dub the old eps.
Does the Bellamy premire ep have blood in it?
I think. Doesn't Bellamy stab Roshio's hand at some point with a knife?
@Pass:
I think. Doesn't Bellamy stab Roshio's hand at some point with a knife?
Only in the manga. He just grabs him in the anime.
There is blood on that episode though. When Sarcuis enters the bar he has blood on his blade weapon. He licks it off even. Not sure if they could keep that.

That's to be expected, but who knows, Funi might just suprize us…

I can imagine them keeping Sarquiss licking his sword, but editing the blood out. I think I've seen that happen on another Funimation dub.

I personally am not expecting them to.
Wow, so apparently Krillin, Piccolo, and Trunks are One Piece straw hats now, lol. The voices are decent. Really can't f'ing complain after what 4kids did. However, I wish Sanji had a deeper voice, like in the Jap dub and (dare I say) 4kids dub. Zoro also seems a bit too… gruff with Piccolo's voice actor. Does anyone agree?
Did Masire have a special laugh? The way it sounded in the dub, kinda gave me the feeling they were mimicking an odd laugh?
Also, I noticed the "Miss Navigator" fit well into the dialogue but I'm still not sure they're keeping it. Kinda like the way Luffy said "I'm going to be the King of Pirates" in this ep but doesnt say it in the next preview. I hope things werent kept on par with the Japanese for this episode because it's the first one…
Does anyone agree?

You know, my first thought was of Santa as well…go figure. But it's growing on me now that I've listened to the opening dozens of times since Sat.
Ao kiji, Masira does have a special laugh. Sort of a "chee-chee-chee-chee" thing, I believe. I watched the dub with a few other OP fans, and that was the first thing one of them noticed - the absence of his laugh.
Hmmm, after seeing part of that episode I have to say their voices don't surprise me and I stick by my previous opinion. The delivery sounds slightly better, but I never enjoyed FUNimation's 'actors' after what they did to DB.
The dialogue is obviously improved but we knew that from day 1.
I'd have to say what left the biggest impression on me was how amazingly well they managed to do an English version of the OP. That was impressive!
@Lobster:
How!? Just because a female sings it? XD Believe just warms my heart, and gives me chills.
Yes! XD Most boys don't listen (or listened to) Briteny Spears or Christina Agiulera, right? XD
Mmm, Gold D. Roger sounds like Santa Clause IMO. But it's in a good way.
Really? XD He sounded like "Generic Pirate from Generic Pirate Movie" to me… XD Not that that's a bad thing. XD
Ao kiji, Masira does have a special laugh. Sort of a "chee-chee-chee-chee" thing, I believe. I watched the dub with a few other OP fans, and that was the first thing one of them noticed - the absence of his laugh.
Damn…and thus my first major Funi dub disapointment..D:
but I never enjoyed FUNimation's 'actors' after what they did to DB.
Everyone hates the DB dub that's more than a casual anime fan. Db is a different entity from other series tho. Not to mention they were a different company when they started that dub. Watch their Yuyu Hakusho or Fruits Basket dubs.
About the ending songs, I'm a bit concerned. For Free Will, they placed the full version onto the TV version's video, so it was out of sync. If they do this with the rest of the songs… I'll be disappointed, but it's not that bad. At least we get the song. I'd just rather have it as it was in the original TV version. Hopefully this one was just a mistake...
Masira's laugh was "ukiki", Funi changed it to an "uhihi" sound. I didn't think it was too big of a change.
Hmmm, after seeing part of that episode I have to say their voices don't surprise me and I stick by my previous opinion. The delivery sounds slightly better, but I never enjoyed FUNimation's 'actors' after what they did to DB.
Not to piss on your thoughts or anything, but I think holding a grudge from a 10 year old dub from a company just getting off the ground at that time, is…a little bit silly right now.
They have come a long, LONG way since DB/DBZ. If you're interested, check out the dub of Fullmetal Alchemist, which I still consider (for now) to be the best English dub of anything in forever. F'Course, this is all IMO.
Wow, so apparently Krillin, Piccolo, and Trunks are One Piece straw hats now, lol.
Technically japanese Krillin is a strawhat, right?
but I never enjoyed FUNimation's 'actors' after what they did to DB.
Damn you actors, and all the things you act!!
Masira's laugh was "ukiki", Funi changed it to an "uhihi" sound. I didn't think it was too big of a change.
Thanks for the clarification, kislio - my mistake. I need to watch the dub episode again, as I don't remember much of a laugh at all. I guess his laugh - in my mind at least - really stood out in the sub version and not at all in the dub.
^ROFL!!!
Masira's laugh was "ukiki", Funi changed it to an "uhihi" sound. I didn't think it was too big of a change.
Yeah, the laugh sounded like a weirdo OP laugh in the first place. If they change them slightly to sound alittle more natural tha's fine. As long as they're not all changed to the generic "hahahaha" or "bwahahaha!" Even Luffy's english laugh sounds like it's trying to sound abit distinctive like the Japanese version.
when I watched the Japanese Version for the First Time, Luffy was Kuririn, Chopper Was Pikachu, Zoro was Jan Valentine, Usopp was Ranma (Boy) Dr. Kureha (For the short time she was there) Was GOKU! and Ace, Ace was PICCOLO!!
you guys make it sound like Reusing the Dragonball Z Voice Actors is exclusive to the FUNi Dub, when the reality is, a LOT of DBZ Voice Actors from the Japanese Version are RIDDLED within One Piece, (as well as some other characters from other Anime I loved, see Usopp and Zoro)
So Don't make it sound like the simple fact that they Sound Like a Prior Role is BAD, because if that's the case, then Most of the JAPANESE cast is guilty of the same thing.
For Example, it took 3 or 4 re watches of Hellsing OVA III before Hiroaki Hirata Sounded like anything to me OTHER Than Sanji, and he's An awesome Pip! So Just because someone sounds like they did from a previous Dub, it isn't really a BAD thing!! Just something you may have to get used to.
and I know it's Died down a lot now, I just forgot to directly comment on it when it was a huge deal to some people, so the resurgence of the "They sound like the DBZ Voice Actors" Topic gave me an excuse to, and At least IN THE BEGINNING of this thread People were Taking points off for Zoro because he "Sounds too much like Piccolo" and I was just thinking "THEN WHAT ABOUT ACE IN THE JAPANESE VERSION?!"
Not to piss on your thoughts or anything, but I think holding a grudge from a 10 year old dub from a company just getting off the ground at that time, is…a little bit silly right now.
Well see, that's the thing… I'm not holding a grudge, I just think the actors sucked ass in the roles (in DB). And listening to basically the same voices which haven't improved an iota is...yeah.
That's not to say I think they're bad, they just sound average. And, I suppose some of that is to be expected in early in the roles since they're....well....early.
Damn you actors, and all the things you act!!
Or lack thereof.
They have come a long, LONG way since DB/DBZ. If you're interested, check out the dub of Fullmetal Alchemist, which I still consider (for now) to be the best English dub of anything in forever.
From what I heard in this, they haven't, which is a bit of a shame. AGAIN (and I know know this qualifier means nothing to the people who will think I'm pissing on the crucifix of their religion) I don't think they're bad. And I certainly don't think they sound any worse than the other incarnation. I just expected something more and Luffy's rasp being left over as an impression of the 4Kids material just sounds unprofessional.
My biggest pleasant surprise remains an amazing dub of the intro. Which is probably the last thing I thought would be possible.
Came back to voice a worry of mine:
While I could live with the VAs in episodes like this, I'm genuinely worried if they can manage emotional, passionate dialouge in more confrontational episodes. Usopp and Luffy in particular go through a rapid voice change when the shit hits the fan, and I'm not sure if Coleen or Sonny can handle that. Justin obviously has no problem there, but with Water 7 in the 4th season (and obvious circumstances that will put "Luffy" and "Usopp" actors to the test) it'll be sooner than we think when we find out.
Not to piss on your thoughts or anything, but I think holding a grudge from a 10 year old dub from a company just getting off the ground at that time, is…a little bit silly right now.
and no matter how good 4Kids gets, no matter how well their Dinosaur King dub is, you can bet that 10 years later, I'll still be holding a grudge ;)
My biggest pleasant surprise remains an amazing dub of the intro. Which is probably the last thing I thought would be possible.
It was a very pleasant way to start off, wasn't it?
I just expected something more and Luffy's rasp being left over as an impression of the 4Kids material just sounds unprofessional.
Well the creator says that guy sounds awesome so you're wrong (JK of course)
