Am still looking forward to Zetsu. Always liked the fact that, despite having such a shitty generic Akatsuki cloak, he has a giant venus fly trap busting out of the top. That, and he fucking eats people.
Don't really care for any of the other Akatsuki at all, really.

I like Zetsu, Deidera, Kisame and Hidan (shit fighter, but cool personality). Like Kakuzu too, even tho the way he went out was the epitome of shitty writing.

I don't see the appeal behind Kisame, really. He's a sharkman who speaks like an old gentleman. Original, yes, but boring.

Basically I like Zetsu and Kisame, and am okay with Deidara. I liked Kakuzu at first, until he became a retarded spaghetti monster. I did like Konan and Pein but they're pretty much ruined now. Hidan and Sasori were boring as hell. And Itachi and Tobi are Uchiha, so that's reason enough to hate them. I just hope Zetsu actually exists later on in the series. I wouldn't be surprised if Kishi just forgot about him or something.
Anyway, when I saw Yahiko, I instantly thought "Juugo", but that may be the fault of Kishi's art rather than him actually being Juugo. Mind you, Juugo needs some damn purpose, because right now he's on a Tenten level of uselessness, but I guess it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense if he was involved in this.

I've always been mixed on Kisame. I kind of want to hate him and sort of like him at the same time. he hasn't really done anything groundbreaking other than pull out that sword, and that doesn't help him either because his sword looks incredibly stupid.
Like I said before, Hidan's my favorite right now. I always kind of liked his design and personality, and even though he sucked as a fighter and had only one or two gimmicks, they were pretty cool ones.
I really liked Kakuzu until "HAR HAR HAR I HAVE 5 HEARTS" and he went from being an awesome masked man to a retarded looking spaghetti-mouthed tentacle monster
Sasori I liked until he turned out to be A PUPPET INSIDE OF A PUPPET OF A PUPPET. His "true form" was dumb and god I hated that part

Aside from him being an ugly son of a bitch, don't really care for him, either. Having a giant sword doesn't really help his case.

Well, when I first saw him, I started liking Kisame because Zabuza was my favorite character, and they knew each other or something. Yeah, not really a good reason.
That was a long time ago though. But I still want to see him.
I never even bothered reading those chapters after Kakuzu turned into that thing or whatever.

Talking about Zetsu, there's something that puzzles me indeed about his character. The only we know is he can appears where he wants and eats shinobis, but the most intriguing thing is his double personality and of course, the fact that we don't know nothing about his past and his jutsus. It's like say he's the villian who's behind everithing.
My favorite Akatsuki are Sasori(worthy end), Hidan(cool personality and jutsu), Deidara, Konan(who is more powerful than someone think), Zetsu and Pain(want to see how his flashback ends).
Let's talk about our favourite arcs, point the reasons why you like it.

I liked Hidan too. His personality and interactions with Kakuzu were pretty hilarious, and even if some would find his design generic and boring I liked it a lot. He reminded me of the guys in these old 60's american movies for some reason, like Grease. He'd probably have been my favorite Akatsuki if he didn't go out like an utter bitch and was even more of a one trick pony than Naruto.
Kakuzu was meh. Same with Kisame. They could be interesting I guess, if they were drawn by a guy who knows how to portrey manlyness and badassery. Sasori was complete garbage, whether it is the sobbing backstory shoehorned at the last second, the ridiculous misusing of his broken abilities or the bishie design, not to mention the fact he got beat by SAKURA of all people. That's unforgivable.
Itachi I won't comment due to AP's new policy, virgin eyes could be shocked by the amount of obscenities I'd type to describe what I really think of him. I thought Pein and Konan looked really awesome and had lots of hopes for them, especially Pein. Alas.
All in all Deidara stays my favorite. It's a good thing his ending didn't tarnish his character either, as he did what he had to do and would have finished anybody else than Kishi's favorite boytoy.

Nice to see there's plenty of love for Zetsu here. As for him being the final villain, I hope so because it'd be the most hilarious thing in the whole manga. Amidst body-changing people with piercing fetishes and masked, ancient Uchihas the most powerful villain in the series is a 7 foot tall venus flytrap with double personalities. The sound of a million fanboy's heads exploding at the ramifications would be a nice tune indeed.
I liked Kakuza even after his whole transformation into the spaghetti monster because I thought he would be impossibly difficult to take down. The whole, 5 lives and control of 5 elements thing built him up as some kind of superbeast, and he just goes down like a bitch. I would have easily swallowed the whole transformation if the characters at least had a hell of a time trying to kill him.
While I'm disappointed Konan was taken by Jiraiya spitting on her, I have high-hopes that a similar fate awaits our other shape-changing boy Suigetsu and he gets trapped in a jug somewhere for the remainder of the series.
Finally, I really don't mind Pein's whining as long as it doesn't turn out he's Naruto part deux and was ostracized by the village for whatever reason. Especially for his freaky eyes, because that would be the biggest hypocrisy in the entire series.

I can understand the Zetsu love, but I don't get why you guys are cutting Deidara so much slack. His techniques basically amounted to throwing around a bunch of lame-ass bombs, and the "hm" thing he always did was effin' annoying. Kishi seemed to write this guy like he's the most bad-ass thing in the Akatsuki, but I didn't get it. The best thing he accomplished was hurt Sasuke a little with the pathetic kamikaze attack cliche.
And Kakuzu was cool until Naruto deus ex machina'ed his ass. That made me cry.

At the rate final villains show up, I wouldn't be surprised if we get our final boss as some giant, disembodied eyeball. That would explain everything: Sharingan, Byakugan, Pein's eyes, Zetsu's eyes, Orochimaru…

Even still, Pain was a coward to begin with. He hides behind his men, he didn't show his face until recently, and then we find out it's not even his true face because he apparently can switch bodies. If he's powerful enough to wipe out a guy who defeated the Sannin (at the same time), then he shouldn't be hiding his identity to the point where no one knows what he looks like.
I called it wrong, so long ago. I guess this needs to be changed.

Not really, because it's already been done in this story… several times. (Mostly by Orochimaru).
Any guesses as to why Jugo and Yahiko look identical, or do we just chalk it up to Kishi's inability to draw original faces?

It's not really that he's obsessed I think, more that it's probably far easier and faster to draw the same kind of face over and over again and just replace hair and eyes.
It's basically industrial drawing.
