The wolf's name is Jayabura. And the attack is Diable Jambe, not Diablo Jambe. I'm feeling nitpicky today! Hehehe.
Oda's INSPIRATION for One Piece
-
-
Hogback looks like Geddy Lee of the godly Canadian band Rush.
!
Maybe I'm nuts, but watch him in a few of their live performances, and you'll see. -
Has anyone mention this yet?
Franky with yellow hair.
-
i cant see cutty flams pic =(
-
Yep neither can I.
-
It's Jyabura!
I'm kidding, the card postdates his appearance in the manga, but I find it odd to see another werewolf with glasses.
-
…...no it's not. Even if it was before.
-
With the recent revelation of Absalom's super changed body, I reminded of a certain mythological creature named Chimera. The body of this monster was made of the part of several different animals, and, check out the coincidence, most of the pictures related with Chimera show it with a lion's head.

Sorry for the dead link, here hope this wasn't posted.

Franky's Inspiration

Props for creativity.

The revelation of the recent volume cover somehow made me have this weird inspiration thought about Perona. Besides the obvious goth-loli (and occasional Misa) inspirations, her pink hair color reminded me of some pics of a character named Miwako Sakurada from the manga/anime "Paradise Kiss". A bit more about her:
A student of Yazagaku who works with George to run their own brand, Paradise Kiss. She is the younger sister of the creator of the Happy Berry brand, Mikako Kouda, who was the protagonist of Gokinjo Monogatari. She is very sweet and cute, and tends to act in a rather childlike manner. She has a cat named Josefine.
Somehow if you combine her, Misa and maybe, er, Casper, I think that would somehow lead to Perona.
-
Oda's women strongly resemble (in shape) the art of the Minoans.
Almost definitely a coincidence, but it's possible.
-
I in no way think this is the inspiration for Odz, but ever since I saw Odz, I remember a boss in Final Fantasy 6 that looks exactly like him, tusks, pot-belly, little limbs.
Looks a little like him. -
That guy's bellybutton looks like it's about to eat someone.

My thread has at least 45% of Oda's inspirations…
-
! Franky's stair building thing in the recent chapter is almost exactly the same as one of the 'uses' in the game Lemmings, where you would build steps in order to get over obstacles.

No, go away.
…............. -
Not sure if that was already commented, but…
Kamakiri holds some resemblence with Travis Bickle of Taxi Driver.
-
Never even thought of that one.

Fucking awesome.
Best movie ever. -
General White (Dragonball)
Commodore Smoker
I may be crazy, but I was just watching these batch of episodes and noticed how much White's appearance reminds me of Smoker's.
(..now that I actually look at the pictures back to back…..no. But dammit, I already posted so deal with it.)
-
At least got the inspiration for the hair, unless it was a coincidence.
Bystander wearing a strawhat I'm looking at you.
-
Not to mention one is General White and the other is the White Hunter.
-
Nico Robin = Brigitte Helm
-
at first I didnt see it, but then I noticed the nose…
-
Who the fuck is Brigitte Helm?
-
Who the fuck is Brigitte Helm?
German silent movie actress; found in 0,2 seconds with Google.
-
The nose means nothing, there are plenty of people with noses like that. You dun hear me shouting that she has David Tennant's nose do you?
-
I never noticed him having a nose like Robin…and I don't think she has a nose like Robin either.
-
There may be some influence here, although these are common themes.
Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez is the worlds greates Swordsman metallurgist and swordmaker untill Connor Macleod shows up. Like in One Piece there can be only one greatest swordsman (the theme of the Quickening), that he must challenge every swordsman and work his way to the top to fulfill his destiny. Ramirez knows one day Macleod must replace him, he is just next in line. Mihawk, I mean Ramirez at first easily defeats the inexperianced young Macleod but knows and recognizes in him that he is fated to replace him one day as the greatest swordsman, much the same way Mihawk respects and recognizes it in Zoro.See the video-
He even looks like a younger Ramirez.
Also in going with the vampire theme associated with his boat and the fact that he travels around in what looks like a coffin. Immortals are very similar to vampires only with swords.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned but Van Auger is a dead ringer for Adolphus from Baron Munchausen. He is pretty much an exact copy.
With his super site he is the marksmen on their ship and throughout their adventures.I haven’t found a direct picture from the movie yet, but here is the character designs for the movie, he is obviously the one all the way on the right.
…
There are several other parallels with the Adventures of Baron Munchausen and his crew, it seems like Oda must have been a fan.
-
Major threadbump, but Miwako Sakurada from Paradise Kiss looks very much like Perona!
Not to mention the awesome fashion both girls have~Also, the ZoroxRobin fangirl in me still lives on~
When I first saw that image, the first thing that came to mind was "OMG they almost look like Zoro and Robin!!!" Except she has longer hair than Robin, and George's sideburns fail in comparison to Zoro's, but STILL!! -
Hmmm…nice find. According to Wiki the manga series started in 2000, so it's very much possible. The anime is 2005, and that's a bit close if you ask me.

Wow, NICE FIND.
I think Burguess could be also related to the strongest guy.
-
So no one has pointed out that Doflamingo is the Singer of the German band scooter? He even sounds like he has a "German accent"
-
There’s more to Foxy than just Count Chocola.
-
HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
CAN'T FUCKING UNSEE
Its true, the way he uses cheating and the way the other guy laughes, there's no doubt.

There's quite a few things in One Piece that draw parallels to our own own and history.
For example, I think we all know that Den Den Mushi's act as phones, but one thing that not many people know is that at one point in history, scientists thought that snails communicated telepathically, so they attempted to use snails as a communication device. Of course, that didn't work at all, but it does in the world of One Piece.
Another famous example are Blackbeard and Whitebeard, whose names are taken from Blackbeard's real life name, Edward Teach.
What are other things in One Piece that are exaggerated visions of real things in our world?
-
Are you sure they were both named Edward?
-
Edward 'Whitebeard' Newgate and Marshal 'Blackbeard' Teach
btw there's already been a topic like this :T
-
Mint, that's Oda's version. I'm asking about real-life.
-
Ah. All I know is that the real Blackbeard's name was Edward Teach
-
I could have sworn the real Whitebeard's first name was neither Edward nor Marshall.
-
Real Whitebeard? Are you sure about that? I can't seem to find any information about him at all.
-
I'm pretty sure there was no real whitebeard.
No one really knows what Blackbeard's real name was, but most historians agree that at some point he was called Edward Teach.
-
btw there's already been a topic like this :T
I apologize. I searched and couldn't really find anything.
-

There was no real Whitebeard. Whitebeard was created as a gag seeing as white is the opposite of black :T
I apologize. I searched and couldn't really find anything.
S'alright. It's way back down the line by now I'm sure :>
-
there thousand if not milions of thing such as ships and stuff every things based of something
-
Obviously Iva-san is based off of Rocky Horror
-
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is, thankfully, a movie. Please shut up.
