Ah, that rumor again.
Mashima Hiro is one of the few mangaka who started serialization without ever working under somebody else. Their similarity in style is a coincidence, if anything.
Meh, sorry. (16 apologies)

I never tried the actual anime itself but I read the manga and have been as tokyopop has been releasing it. I highly enjoy it. Its just a fun ride.
I thought the anime was pretty bad after watching part of the dub on Toonami. I recently got into the manga after reading Fairy Tail since I wanted to see what Mashima's older works were like. The story was far from being original, and some characters looked rather bland and generic, but I still think it's a fun series.
this series is awesome problem is, it doesn't get "good" until at least vol 9
The manga is really awesome, but I'm still waiting for someone to put up V 28+
I wonder if they get to fight that lion God person/character, that would be awesome
! The lion dude is a demon and he fights shuda in the last arc.
Onepiece+RaveMAst3r Mix.
I read the first chapters. I didn't like it very much.
Did you read Rave?
^This man knows romance is inevitable in this manga.
God no. I find her character boring. Focusing on her love life? No, thank you.
Love triangle.
C6P5G9KlErQ
As I said before, I will only support a love triangle if one or more of the points goes crazy.
I still haven't read anything of Rave beyond the first ten chapters or so. I have no idea how it managed to get serialized in that state.
Rave had a stereotypical shounen plot with no big surprises (or one tbh, not that big tough), but it had awesome fights that got better and better after the first part.
First part is boring a bit, before Gererd's father's appearance at least.

Think of the state Oda's art was in in the first couple of chapters . Especialy that one goon of Buggy's who when hit by Zoro was somehow abble to make his arms impossibly short for no real reason .
Rave becomes quite good and the designs become weird as shit . Not to mention there is more or less an over-reaching plot . I advise yout o go read it right now and compare it . Seriously dude .
Oh and yeah Shuda looks like utter crap when he first apears . Only much later does he actualy apear somewhat normal .

59lksZsC5YE .
LOL Nice boat.
59lksZsC5YE .
I love how the passerby just stand there passively, completely oblivious to someone getting their throat cut and gushing blood right in front of them.
I bit the bullet and tried reading a bit more of Rave. Please tell me that there isn't anything else in this story as inane as a guy making it rain for years on end just to film a movie.
No . That's the only real bummer . It had potential but was shafted prety quickly but have patience . Wait for Pumpkin Doryu and then the Blue Guardians .
And Haja of the Oracion Seis . My god he's awesome .
! Plus there's lotsa moments where people don't treat Elie as human , so that's a nice touch . Though Sieg making her beg for death was a little too much even for me .
There's an overpowered character in Rave.
When you'll see it you'll instantly know he has to be overpowered.
I will give Mashima credit for the amount of different powers he uses for each character. I wouldn't say the fights got better in Rave though.

mashima certainly got better with his fight scenes as the series progressed.

Shuda is by far the best character from rave

I tell people that RAVE only get's good at around volume 10 which is during the King arc.

Really?
if we would compare…let's say: Haru vs. Let to Any of the fights with the 4 demon lords, i'd say the fights became much better drawn.
At first the fights felt stiff and they were drawn rather blocky than mashima slowly started to use different angles and made the characters actually feel like they were fluently moving.

I thought you meant better overall like the fights really improved in entertainment/action, etc. He got better at drawing them for sure. I was just talking about the quality of fights themselves.
I wouldn't say that .about Shuda
! Sure I like how he got Haru's sister in bed almost instantly , so points to him for that …...but he felt kinda lazily drawn to me . The design is just too generic .
! And of course that super hero guy who never realy did anything and was shafted . I mean Come on Mashima you had a four armed (okay , he retconned it to being it just arms on springs but stil) superhero guy/Captain Falcon lookalike with a prety awesome fighting ability . WHY THE FUCK did you just write him off ?
! Worst is I read in one of his coments he considered actualy giving the guy a big part later on .

And wasn't he written off with diarrhea or something like that?
Yeah .
It was a fine enough joke but…....when that is the reason he never re-apears , I was just pissed off .
I mean so much for former Royal Guard top tier .
edit: Lansbury I think it was .

My mistake than I thought you were talking about how mashima drew the fights, in that regard FT is better when it comes to entertainment in the fights. The closest Rave got was the last arc fighting against the 4 demon lords

Well he did kinda help fight that acid dude from Blue Guardians but I know what you mean, I was rather pissed that Lasenby was reduced to sideline watcher.
And wasn't he written off with diarrhea or something like that?
For a long ass time

Lasenby
Yeah thanks .
And Holy shit we actualy have a Rave thread here ?
Honestly, as generic as RAVE is, I like it. Sort of bought most of the Tokyopop version (still waiting on those final volumes that Del Ray promised) when I got addicted to that (and Flame of Recca) and while the story is generic, the characters and powers and overall weirdness (which really reminds me a bit of Oda even back then) shine through for me.
Sadly this did not cary over to Fairy Tail . At all .
Heck if the art wasn't improved you could get people to believe that Fairy Tail is the earlier of the two given how aimless it is , I bet .
I think it would still be quite easy to tell the difference. One has impressively cheesy dialogue, the other impressive cliche.
No I mean it would be quite easy to fool peopl that Rave came after FT , if not for the art .
Rave master is awesome. I do agree you could tell someone rave came after and they wouldn't know the difference. Tokyo pop should have finished the series hopefully del ray will get it done, it's sad that they stopped publishing Bastard!! too.
Bastard was that rock based manga right?
Yea heavy metal dark fantasy.
I've allways wanted to read it, I heard it's one of those "incomplete manga" scanlations where it's still running but there's a large number of volumes not scanlated.
I think Buso Renkin is the same way .
It' is volumes 7 - 10 arn't scanlated but it has been released by viz and that's why no one will scanlate it…stupid scanlation teams and there naruto's and bleach's.
You mean how there are like ten for each but not ones for series that nobody does anymore , right ?
Their are 26 volumes out 19 got done by viz, the series has been running seens 1988 the year I was born. One of the first mangas I read along with Vagabond, Blade of the Immortal, King of Bandits Jing and Rave Master.
So that's 2 manga viz dropped probably because they don't suck as much as naruto… You are talking about Bastard! right?
It sold very poorly like less then 1000 copies for the last two volumes, I don't remember if it was 1000 altogether or each.

Well RAVE was Tokyopop but you could throw in other series Viz abandoned like Gash…they didn't even finish Faudo.

Well that's prety poor…...
Then again I dou bt they even had good advertisement from the start .
Same with Rave you think ?

I was talking about gash, that still pisses me off. Granted I stopped buying manga do to being short on money and having to pay bills and such.
