@Greg:
[hide]Maybe not every spoiler every week is something that's necessarily amazing, but something like the revelation of Garp…I mean...I can't imagine reading text as opposed to seeing the buildup where you know something is strange and then getting hit over the head with a baseball bat at the last line.
I also think it's because not a lot of you actually read the chapters. Whereas not to sound like a boastful ass, but there are a few of us that don't just look at pictures until a translation comes out. It's a very different experience.
Again, NOTHING against people that read spoilers, but I see many people reading spoilers actually read or 'catch-up' to other series by reading them through dowloads or msn group sites. If you'll follow me on this analogy, why bother reading the comic at all? Just read the wiki on each arc/character/move/etc. that there no doubt already is to get you caught up. you wouldn't do that because:
1. It isn't half the fun.
2. It's a scanlation so you're actually reading it as it unfolds.
I don't believe this is as strong a point but…you're not reading Oda's words when you read a spoiler. You're reading a summary by a fan. I joke about Oda's godliness and not to put him on a pedestal, but I'd rather enjoy it first-hand as he created it, in his own words, with his pictures in order. That's just a personal enjoyment.
Again, I'm sure if you wanted to you could counter these points but it doesn't make much sense since it's just how I feel about enjoying OP and while I can certainly understand the opinions of others and accept them, I can't possibly hold them myself.
And don't forget, some 40+ weeks of the year, I actually read the chapter several days after everyone here since I wait for the release of JUMP. I'm a super purist and I realize that but flipping through the pages of fresh pulp is tangent to orgasmic.[/hide]
Yeah, of course I see what you mean. It's kind of personal for each one. For me, dare I say, spoilers might be even better. Like you said, why read the series then? All I wanna know is what happens. AT FIRST. Example is YYH, that I read/watched not long ago. To my opinion the anime was awful when the manga was much better, but I still moved to the anime not waiting for the scanlation group to keep going after vol 16. Because I first wanted to know what the fuck is gonna happen at the end.
When I watched OP for the first time it was the same. I almost didn't feel anything watching it, all I did was to absorb the outcomes of everything. It gets good with me on the rereads. It's bad enough for me that on my rereads I read old scanlations with BB instead of Vivi. Which is the main reason I'm learning hiragana [7 more letters damn it!!].
Nah, I don't really know why I'm that way. Maybe it's because I'm sick of trying to feel what's going in new manga, only to see it sucks. Only maybe.
But anyway, I can't really counter anything because you can own any carefully picked paragraph with 'that's how I feel'. :p
Anyway, let me tell you something awesome.
You're so gonna be hella excited when the chapter comes into contact with your eyes.
