OH! and I'm willing to be there'll be at least one dumbass saying "this is just as bad, if not worse, than the 4Kids dub!"
One of those will almost certainly be Skull Kid.

Premere… Must... see....someone....Camera....please....even...if it's...crappy...
Anyway, as for questions, What will they be doing to broadcast version's Enel? With the religious stuff and all…
Maybe:
A) He's going to be the sky lord and the priests his vassals..
B) He's going to be the chosen one to go to Fairy earth or whatever it would be called, and the priests his mere agents…
C) He's going to be Santa, and the priests his evil elves.....
Ooh! Someone must ask if the original attack names will be used for the TV version not the 4Kids crap! I wanna hear French Sanji not a bunch of cooking puns!><
Not to defend 4Kids here but are Sanji's attack names in Japanese not mostly food puns. I have no problem with food and/or cooking puns, so long as they don't make me cringe, however, a modicum of faithfulness to the original text should be expected. And based on Funi's history that is probably what we will get.
Except they're not puns at all. They're just names of foods in French.
@Ao:
People don't hate dubs, people hate BAD dubs.
You'd be right, accept there's plenty of people that think all or most dubs are bad dubs.
Except they're not puns at all. They're just names of foods in French.
Oh, really, were the 4Kids names really that bad, i never actually watched more than 5 minutes of any dub episode at one time. I was hoping the episode I saw where Crocodile talks about a Sand Toilet and desert doodoo was one of the lowlights of the dub, and not just average suck.
Can someone ask when the dub air in August what is the date.

Trust me. David Moo saying anything in that Sanji voice sucked ten times as worse. The scene in Arabasta against Mr. 2 especially.
in nasally Sanji voice "Shish Kabob Back Smash! Barbecue Rib-Breaker! Leg o' Wham Drumstick Supreme!"
Don't forget. . .Trachea Toinovah (turnover).

It was already stated, it'll be uncute in the dvd and the tv version will call the priest vassals and Ener will be the skylord. He'll be GOD in the dvds, tho/

They're keeping the same character names that 4kids changed, so they are probably keeping the attack names too, but I don't know for certain.
Even Wyler? Though they called him Wyper in GA, so….what's the deal there?
Wow, i'm glad i never watched the dub. I got into the show thinking, One Piece is the most popular manga in Japan so I should give it a shot, it must be popular for a reason. I just decided to watch the fansubs since i could watch them all at once, i was only vaguely aware of the dub at that time, sounds like i really dodged a bullet on that one.
Well, at least people would think that Gears are so damn powerful that Luffy's blast, double barrel and rapid fire get their names changed to Jet Pistol, Jet Bazooka and Jet Gattling gun…<_<

Actually, I'm not sure what they're gonna call him in the TV dub. Unless it's been mentioned somewhere else.

Actually, one thing I thought they could do there was to use the original names of his NORMAL attacks for the G2-techniques, as that would be closer to the originals, not confuse people, and yet make the attacks sound more powerful. Because "Jet Double Barrel" just sounds lame. But for all we know, they might keep the attack names in the broadcast… they haven't said they would be keeping ALL the 4Kids-names, right? Ah well, as I don't live in the US anyway, I won't even be seeing the TV-broadcast, so it wouldn't bother me much.
Thing is, with the attack names, even 4kids wasn't consistent! Didn't one of Zoro's attacks get like 3 or 4 different translations?
@Gerchak:
Frequently Asked Questions:
(note: will frequently be updated)#1: What will happen with the names, like Trace (Ace) and Zolo (Zoro)? What about the Going Merry?
Answer: FUNimation will be doing their best to be true to the manga being released by Viz. A list of the name changes will be linked here in the near future.#2: Will the dub voices be similar to the 4kids dubbed voices?
Answer: No. The voice casting for the new dub of One Piece will feature all new actors, and none of the main characters will have any accents whatsoever. No more "Southern", "Brooklyn", or nasal accents for the Strawhat Crew. However, if an accent truly fits a supporting character (i.e. NOT in the crew), an accent may be implemented fittingly. FUNimation representatives have clearly stated that one of the biggest aspects they are trying to emphasize about this new series is the quality of the voice acting of the Strawhat Pirates. No roles have been cast yet for the new dub.#3: Will the show retain the original Opening and Ending Songs/Credits?
Answer: It is not known at this time.#4: What kind of editing can we expect?
Answer: The editing will be much, much less than the 4kids version. The FCC does NOT regulate what can air on cable channels, however, Cartoon Network has specifically stated that the consumption of alcohol and the smoking of cigarettes is not permitted. Also, the violence will be toned down to the effect where punches are accompanied by a brief flash, and flesh wounds that squirt blood will not squirt blood. Also, Sanji will retain his lollipop. As he is always smoking a cigarette, it would be too time-consuming to remove the cigarette completely, so they are going to insert the notorious lollipop instead. But remember, the Uncut DVD's will not have any of this, and the Cartoon Network edited version of the show will never see a DVD release.#5: What about DVD releases? Will they be the TV version, or uncut?
Answer: Uncut DVD's are on the way. By uncut, they mean completely unedited or altered. "What you see is what you get.", is the quote that they have used to describe it. All of the violence, blood, and cigarettes can be seen in full glory on DVD's. They are currently debating on which part of the series will see Uncut DVD releases first. The DVD's will be released to the public in 13-episode volumes for $49.99, beginning to be released in a time period ranging from November to February 2008.#6: Where is FUNimation starting with their dub? Will it be the beginning? Also, when will these new episodes start airing and what channel?
Answer: FUNimation will begin dubbing for television broadcast where 4kids left off, right at the beginning of the Jaya Arc, episode 144. The new episodes will start airing in August on Cartoon Network.#7: Are they using the original musical score from the Japanese version?
Answer: Yes. They will be using the original musical compositions from the original version, as they want to keep the same atmosphere of the original series as they dub it.#8: Who are the voice actors? Will we see the return of some of the 4Kids VA's?
Answer: Not known at this time. Funimation is located in Texas, so it is unlikely that VA's outside of Texas will be hired.#9: Can Mato answer any question about the show?
Answer: No. Mato is contractually bound to not speak on certain things, so do not be surprised if Mato can't answer some of your questions. Mato is a translator, which means that Mato's knowledge of things outside the translating department is limited, but so far Mato has tried to speculate answers for some questions. So don't be offended if you don't get the answer you're looking for. Remember, Mato is on these boards by choice, so please don't heckle or flame Mato.#10: Will words like "nakama" be used in the show? What about other terms like Shichibukai? What about Sanji referring to Nami as "Mellorine" and using terms like "-swan" and "-chwan"? What about terms like "Knock-Up Stream", "Log Pose", "Mantra", and the Priests of Skypiea?
Answer: There is reportedly some sort of "master list" that has been made that describe the romanizations of many One Piece words and names. As far as nakama goes, it is hard to say at this point. "Nakama" is being translated into a different word for the Uncut DVD subs and the dub. The term Shichibukai may be replaced with "Seven Great Pirates", or something along those lines. The ever-funny terms that Sanji uses with Nami's and Robin's names (-san/-swan and -chan/-chwan) will probably be dropped for the dub. It is not clearly known about the fate of "Mellorine". The Knock-Up Stream will retain its name, and also, the Log Pose (the Grand Compass as known in the 4kids version) will retain its name as the Log Pose. The Priests of Skypiea will be known as the Vassals of Skypiea in the TV Edit. Mantra will be Mantra in the new dub.#11: Will the movies be dubbed for release?
Answer: Not known at this time.#12: Who is this "Mato" guy, specifically?
Answer: Mato is an employee of FUNimation.#13: What will FUNimation do about the high-definition episodes, from 207 and onward?
Answer: Not known at this time.#14: What's the word on a UK release of the Uncut One Piece DVD's?
Answer: Nothing yet, unfortunately. Make your voices heard if you want these DVD's released in the UK!#15: What about the attacks/names of weapons in the dub?
Answer: The attack names are either remaining the same as they were in the original Japanese version, or changing slightly for translation. Chopper's Point forms will still be referred to as Boost forms, though. Nami's Clima Tact (known as the Weather Forcer in the 4kids dub) will be called the Climate Baton. All of Luffy's attacks will have the word "Gum-Gum" preceding them, as opposed to "Gomu Gomu No". All of his attacks, like Pistol, Bazooka, Gatling, Stamp, Whip, Rifle, and all his others will retain these names. No more "Gum Gum Double Barrel" crap, thankfully! No word on other characters' attack names yet, but the good news is that the made-up crap from 4Kids is just about gone. For the subtitles on the Uncut DVD's, the attack names for Sanji and Robin will remain in their native languages (French and Spanish).#16: Will FUNimation or Toei or Cartoon Network be gunning down K-F/ADC/Vegapunk/etc. Fansub sites to take down their content?
Answer: Not known at this time. Now is probably a good time to back up your collections of the episodes if you're concerned.#17: Will the unaired episodes #1-143 be aired on television, ever?
Answer: Not known at this time, One Piece's success being dubbed by FUNi will most likely determine this.#18: What about swearing? What can we expect and not expect?
Answer: Certain terms like "damn, ass, and bitch" MAY be used. Words like "shit" will be replaced with something like "crap". This is Cartoon Network, after all. The Uncut DVD's, however, will have swearwords where appropriate, minus "shit" and f-bombs. If you're disappointed about the lack of "shit" due to Sanji using it all the time, remember that the real words he uses in Japanese ("kuso" and "chikuso") are very common words used in anime that can mean all sorts of things like "shit", "crap", "damn", and so on, so the words will change as Toei and FUNi see fit.#19. How far along is FUNi in the dub? How many episodes have they translated?
Answer: NOt known at this time.
It says under attack names change it said it said no more double barrel crap and said pistol rifle galating and all those others will retain there attack name.

You're using a very outdated list made by someone who's not even a FUNi rep. Attack names for the new TV dub are up in the air. They will be the original on the DVDs though.
Someone suggest that they use the smallest possible DVD casings, please. Surely they can fit three discs in a normal DVD case (one on the back of the cover and two on a 'page/flap', it might cut the cost a little (doubtful, though )
@Yuugi's:
Surely they can fit three discs in a normal DVD case.
They certainly can. The UK releases of Naruto did it, so why not One Piece? By the way, have they given a clear answer as to when the DVD release will start? Or is it just "Late this year/early next year)?

No clear release date as of yet, however it will most likely be after episode 157 airs on TV.

Sorry throes I was trying to aswer every bodys question.
We'll find out at Ohayoucon or whatever. Rikter will ask them.

Honestly, that'd save a LOT of room on my shelf and a lot of dough in my [parent's] pockets.

Well, that's what I exactly meant with the post you quoted, but like someone already said, even 4kids was not consistent with the atacks, like sometimes Spear was called Arrow…
So we know about the whole Chaser Trace deal, that's fine, especially since we won't see them for a long ass time once Jaya is over.
What I do want to know is about the new characters that haven't appeared in the 4Kids dub at all.
CN has no reason to worry about consistency with the video games do they? I mean even the video games aren't consistent with themselves! (Wyper/Wyler, Climatact/Weather Forcer, etc.)

They asked for consistency with the episodes that 4kids already dubbed, so I doubt the game would affect anything, besides that Eneru is far better in english than Enel…
Anyways, was not the climatact already called the weather forcer in the arabasta episodes? Maybe it's going to be the SUPREME weather forcer in the later episodes. :getlost:
The Weather Forcer is being called the "Climate Baton" in the FUNimation dub. Which is a valid translation of Climate Takuto (which means takt, or baton in Japanese).

Cool..
right now I am hoping that Franky wont become Flanky.then again thats way too far off from the episodes that will debut soon.
I just hope the Cricket story actually translates well and has no puns.
cricket story?
and climate baton is perfect. at least, compared to weater forcer.
and i dun;t really see why franky would be changed…..tho, y'never know. D=

They already confirmed that he's "Franky". Mato said it was on Toei's big scary list.

Flanky isn't a name, of course he would be Franky. Hence why that game sucked.
To change the subject completely (lest I browse through the 150 pages of this topic), when exactly will the Funi eps air on Toonami? I know in August, but what's the date?

the one about monteblanc cricket.. or was it norland cricket?( I have not seen the jaya arc in a while)

That translation I'm happy with. I was just reffering to how the 2 games that came out recently, weren't even consistent with one another (like how climatact AND weather forcer were used in the same game)
And yeah, I'm hoping that the only thing the dub needs to stay consistent with is what 4Kids actually dubbed, b/c if that's the case then there really aren't any major problems. (At least, none that we won't face for years)

Franky will be Franky. Technically, anything 4kids hasn't dubbed will be what it will be on the DVD version.
None of the episode's dialogue from 144+ will be rewritten to include puns. FUNimation is not 4kids.
Funimation dub starts somewhere in August right?
Other than that I can't really answer that question for ya.
So what about Ace? Since they are gonna leave it 4kids edit, what about his arm that clearly says "Ace"?

Well, we only see him once, he may introduce himself as "Trace" but that tattoo will almost undoubtedly be there.
why did they change ace to trace? ive never heard of trace as a name before except that idiot tracey scetchit from pokemon. but i have met two or three people named ace in real life before.

I think they either did it out of spite of the OP fans that hate them soooooo much or they did it to give him more 'tude. And how, I'm like 'Trace, raise the roof' and he's like 'whoomp there it is!'. 'tude man.

um… youre like what?
trace gives "'tude?"
dude, his name is ace.
"trace" reminds me of when we would lay out on the sidewalk and trace eachother with sidewalkchalk. its not very intimidating. but then, i do draw odd connections.
They named him Trace because it's 4kids. And that's all you need to know. 4kids makes unnecessary changes to everything.

I was joking, and the last part was a reference to an old Seanbaby artical in EGM, take a peek: http://www.seanbaby.com/nes/egm17.htm
funny shit, wish he had an anime double to stomp 4kidz though.
They changed it for a lame pun…
Trace and Chaser, hence their dialogue in the Grand Adventure game...

okay… im glad... i think.
well saying bad things about 4kids now would just be redundant, so im just gonna forget it.
