So which series are REMAINING in American SJ?
I was gonna say that I'd like to see OP taken out because it's being released soooo slowly in that magazine. I mean, Bleach started way after OP and Naruto did and it's further ahead of both of them!

I'm actually more curious as to which series is joining JUMP after those two leave. Bleach is an obvious choice, considering how large of a cash cow it is for VIZ, and to keep it from closing in on the Japanese releases. But the notion of a yet unliscenced manga is more fun to daydream about.

My money's on Neuro.
-
My money's on Neuro.
I would much rather have a Shonen Jump ADVANCED, Bi-Monthly Neuro than a watered down, once every blue moon Neuro.
Also, when and if they liscence Neuro, they better not pull that "Omit the U" shit they did with their other series (Houshin Engi, Mutou Kazuki, Taikoubou, etc)
-
The remaining titles in North American JUMP are:
- One Piece
- Hikaru no Go
- Yu Yu Hakusho
- Naruto
- Yu-Gi-Oh! (Almost over)
- YGO GX
- Bo^7
Lapen, Viz is very fickle with thier usage of circumflexes and macrons. Whistle! and Rurouni Kenshin seem to be the only titles to actually use them.

YGO GX and Bobobo are still new, they aren't leaving. Naruto isn't going anywhere because of Naruto Nation.
That leaves Yugioh, Yu Yu Hakusho, Hikaru no Go and One Piece as potential titles leaving.
Yugioh is ending really soon, so it's safe to assume Yugioh is one of the titles. I don't think Hikaru no Go is popular enough to warrant a bimonthly release, and Yu Yu Hakusho is started to close in on the ending so keeping it in the magazine would make sense.
If there really are 2 titles leaving, I think One Piece has a good chance. (And with the new dub and everything, maybe they wanna catch up somewhat)
I guess we'll find out eventually, how far ahead was Shaman King's departure announced? It was a couple months ago right? So we should hopefully find out about the other title(s) leaving soon enough.

I don't understand what you're talking about with the u omission, the u is completely unnecessary. It's just one way of writing an elongated vowel. Might as well be upset that they're spelling with roman letters rather than Japanese letters.

Ack. I forgot I went off on that tangent before. I'll drop it after this post.
While it may not be very important, that's how I've seen it spelled in english before. So it's not so much grammatical details, but VIZ's inconsistency with the material they're given. (Taikoubou is spelled as such on both the DVDs and on JUMP: Ultimate Stars)
But I just checked; Neuro is written in english a couple of times during the cover pages, so I guess at least there's some reassurance there.
-
Ah, well, consistency is a good thing. They shouldn't change spellings (cough * Zoro to Zolo). Just pointing out that there it's not incorrect to use or not use letter u's in a translated manga.
-
Well I dont know if these are in the Shonen Manga in America but if two series are leaving the magzine and Two series are two replace them I think they would be Bleach and Death note.
-
No, the thng is after YGO nothing else is leaving JUMP. Naruto will take a break after the September issue and come back in January, but that is it. Unless you can prove me otherwise with some hard proof.
-
I've always been somewhat frustrated with how OP is released in American because I don't really have much interest in buying SJ. I much more like the tankobans. (Sp?) I am a huge Rurouni Kenshin fan and when they started releasing them like monthly it was wonderful. One Piece is so far ahead I could see them releasing it bi monthly which would rock. (I really hope they go this way). It would be amazing if eventually they could be like a month behind the releases of the tanks in Japan.

The only way I see OP going bimonthly is if the next two issues (September and October) have three chapters each (which is pretty much confirmed) and then November and December have five chapters each (which would make volume 17 come out in January, but I don't see that happening).
EDIT: What I mean is , Drum Island ends with volume 18, so…
-
How come always 2 pages of a chapter or a volume as so finely detailed than the other 60+ pages?
Example:Vol. 8 has a page of chapter 70 and 2 of ch.69 -

If YGO is leaving than Bleach will take it's place.

It would be incredibly pointless to add Death Note to the US Shonen Jump, since Viz has already translated all of the volumes.
-

That's just a slight possibility seeing as how the American release is catching up to the Japanese release…and, I've got proof that it MGIHT.
-
Ok, here's the timeline I saw.
http://www.shonenjump.com/evolution/
It only mentions a title leaving in December, and looking at it again it also mentions Bobobo as a July addition. Ok, so then it's reffering to the December issue, which happens to come out in November. My bad
But still, I don't think we should rule out the possibility of more titles leaving after Yugioh. For all we know they're just waiting to announce what else is in store. Sorry If I got a little ahead of myself though, the confusion about November/December got my excited.
Now, does anyone who follows Shaman King know where exactly the series is at volume-wise in this month's Sj issue? Is the last serialized chapter the end of a volume or right in the middle of one?
The reason I ask is because Viz might not care about serializing all the chapters in a particular volume before "graduating" it to a bi monthly status. If that's the case, then any kind of scheduling we do here could be meaningless.
And actually, Drum Island ends on 17. Volume 18 is the start of Alabasta.
So at 3 chapters a month, we'll still definately see Drum Island end before 2008. Maybe in a little while we'll see an announcement about One Piece "graduating" in the February Issue (which comes out in January, right after Drum Island is finished)

Shaman King ended serialization with Chapter 112.
EDIT: Alright, because the final six chapters of volume 16 will be published in the next two issues of JUMP, ten chapters are essentially left in volume 17, nine if you want to count 155 as Alabasta chapter 1, but we won’t.
I really want to believe that those ten chapter will be spread across the last two issues of 2007 but I doubt it.
EDIT 2: Book 17 is ten chapters long and book 18 is eleven chapters long. At this rate it really would be best if One Piece is released in bimonthly volumes begining with book 17 or 18.

As far as I can tell they're at least half way through volume 13, maybe three quarters. However I'm not 100% sure on that.

Yea I know its pretty much a pipe dream. Honestly the more I think about it the whole concept of a SJ magazine sort of bothers me. Yes its nice to get a sampling of all the mangas and such but its quite unfair for those who only like a few series. Its a terrible wait for the tanks to come out. I actually stopped buying the tanks around the time the arlong saga began then came back like a year later or whatever and caught up eventually. That was back in May. The next one is in August? Thats just way too long.
In fact that delay is really what caused me to start watching the Naruto, Bleach, and especially One Piece fan subs simply because the wait was horrid.
Even though I never read it I had read somewhere that a while back Yugioh had its manga put into uh some kind of monthly release tank? Like that whole thing with Pegasus or whatever. If you say that its coming out of SJ soon then I don't see why they won't do that with OP since 4kids really hurt the series.

After Viz published the first 59 chapters of YGO in the magazine they took chapter 60 (originally the last chapter in volume 7) and put it together with volume eight and began publishing YGO GNs 8+ monthly until they hit volume 20, I believe, while publishing volume 32+ in the magazine.
EDIT: If you think OP has is hard look at YGO, it took them ten monthes to publish the 37th volume.

Last 2 issues of 2007? I'm reffering to the actual year of 2007, including the January 2008 issue which comes out in December, which means that those 10 chapters in volume 17 would be spread across 3 issues. (And if you don't include the last chapter of volume 17, the one about all of BW being together, then that's only 9 across 3 issues which is perfect)
-
How come always 2 pages of a chapter or a volume as so finely detailed than the other 60+ pages?
Example:Vol. 8 has a page of chapter 70 and 2 of ch.69Because in the original printing in jump, some chapters start out with color pages. when transfered into volumes, we get the black-and-white versions, hence the detailed pages.

What I'm saying is that the September and October issues (which come out early August and September) will publish the last six chapters of volume sixteen because volume sixteen comes out in November. I said I wished that volumes seventeens ten chapters would be spread across the November and December issues (coming out in October and November).

Untill some new show with an awsome dub Naruto is not going to leave.
-
Dang, now THIS is going to make you all pissed…
-
Oh snap, I'll have to buy that eventually. I only have Volume 1, and it's in poor condition. I wonder how much that'll cost?
It kinda bugs me that they're pulling it from the magazine. Yeahyeah, already overrepresented, whatever. That doesn't matter to me, 'cuz I haven't read any of the chapters they're pulling out. So I'm gonna have to buy 12(9? which is it?) fucking volumes(probably about 100-130 bucks, over the course of 3-4 months), rather than just reading it in the magazine. (which only costs like 30-40 bucks for two years.) Not sure if I've said this before, but if so I'm saying it again because it still bugs me.

I really hope they go bi-monthly, because I can barely stand reading about 3 chapters per month. Oh well, something good will happen maybe :)
@shining:All this naruto sickens me:sad:
I couldn't agree with you anymore. It's like Shonen Jump just pays attention to the really popular stuff and doesn't really care about the others. How many Shonen Jumps have had a cover WITHOUT Yu-gi-oh or Naruto on the front? Not many. I'm sick and tired of seeing "Yu-gi-oh this" "Yu-gi-oh that" crap all over the place. Don't get me wrong though I like the manga, but it's just been under the microscope for so long, and Naruto is evolving into that.
What really sickens me is how much attention One Piece gets. It's been on the cover of Shonen Jump about 3 times max, and the only time it really got attention was when the card game, toys, and anime came out. -
Twelve, that the number of Naruto books coming out over four months.
By the way, YGO doesn't get any attention anymore, really.
One Piece has also been on about half a dozen covers.
-
@Yuugi's:

My brother's probably the only person in the world who still collects those cards. XD

Your brother and my cousins mostly everybody went back to pokemon cards.

Nah, YGO is still pretty popular, but the thing is 4Kids can't market the Anime for beans and nobody really cares out the GX Anime (the Manga is much better because Takahashi supervises).

Do you mean the GX dub or the YGO dub? Cus yeah,t he GX one is pretty unpopular and mostly unsucessful, but the YGO dub is popular enough that 4Kidstv started airing it for ratings (though they'd never admit it)

Actually, it'd only cost you 90 bucks for those 12 volumes.
But who am I to say. I'm not buying it.

Both dubs suck, so what's it matter?
Shakes fist at Viz
I'm going to have to buy eleven of those darn books, and that's a lot of dough!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Actually, it'd only cost you 90 bucks for those 12 volumes.
Oh, right. I forgot all about the fact that SJ graphic novels are a bit cheaper. My point still remains, though. I already have my SJ subscription, aaand I'll have to pay 90 bux for those volumes.
-
Wow, I guess this Naruto volume thing is getting them good business with all the Narutards. But, is One Piece just going to carry on with this lousy chapter release? And there's a lot more One Piece video games which haven't been released, plus the anime guide isn't shown anymore. This magazine used to be pretty cool, it had DBZ, Sandland, Shaman King, decent release of One Piece, equal release of Naruto, awesome release of YuYU (omg, sometimes like 3 chapters a month!), etc. It was the best and only manga magazine around, now it sucks and is powered by the Narutards.

One Piece gets three chapters a month, it's not bad, but considering this is where the volume tend to be ten or eleven chapters it'll mean four month waits until a new volume.
-
Aside from Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh!, the other series in the magazine have more or less retained their release schedules.
-
Oh, right. I forgot all about the fact that SJ graphic novels are a bit cheaper. My point still remains, though. I already have my SJ subscription, aaand I'll have to pay 90 bux for those volumes.
True. Although, Viz did say they would explain what happens in those 12 volumes in the November(?) issue of SJ, but that's not the same as reading the chapters.
And there's a lot more One Piece video games which haven't been released, plus the anime guide isn't shown anymore.
This all comes from the fact that the anime is technically still in transition of moving from 4kids to FUNi. 4kids won't release more games because they don't have the license, and FUNi won't release any(or at least announce any) because there dub hasn't started yet. It's the same reason neither company gives Viz pics they can use for an anime guide.
-
@shining:
All this naruto sickens me:sad:
Me too. In the new issue of Shoujo Beat, they have a survey at the back asking how many Naruto products do you intend to purchase and how many you've purchased….. and the whole OP-secution Viz's running for the sake of Naruto.
<arseholeyness>Well, eventually, everyone'll barf over the headshots in chapter 306 and OP'll have its will. Either that, or coloring books'll be in demand for Naruto and Viz'll make money for a while off of deranged Naruto fans and their younger brothers and sisters.
I might even buy one so I could laugh at it and draw curly mustaches all over it. And details.</arseholeyness>

I really don't give a shit about what is or isn't published in the magazine, as long as the releases are good.
If One Piece left the magazine, they could release volumes faster.
Bleach is my primary example.
Not in the magazine, and a Bi-Monthly release. -
To a degree I agree with Kitsune. Yes it is annoying how they're ramming Naruto down our throats and seem to be over looking other series (I want to add the English translation of the later volumes to my collection!), but truth be told I'm interested in the current Naruto story arc and crossing my fingers that this will work well, resulting in hell freezing over and Viz fast tacking One Piece at some point in the not to distant future (unlikely I know but one could hope).
-
Also, i'm not a Narutard but i do enjoy the series.
It's just, pwned in like-ness by many other series who are better, but i don't think Naruto's terrible, just not as fantastic.
Naruto is turning into the Anime/Manga communites scapegoat for shit and to a degree that's not really fair.Blame Inuyasha…...><
and the government..............
and 4Kids............ -
@Kitsune::

Couldn't have put it better myself, which is why I find it annoying how Viz whores the series out so much.
