HOLY CRAP somone else has head of Tech Romancer
YES!
Well, if you had a Dreamcast and read any gaming magazines back then, it was kind of hard to not at least read something about it.
I didn't play it much though (I didn't buy it until after Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram) but I liked the mech designs. I remember that many of them seemed to be homages of famous anime mechs.
Good god, they made a sequel to Rumble Fish? And Sammy made that series? Wow, I would have never guessed that considering how sluggish the game was.
Dimps (DBZ Budokai) made it actually. That could explain it's sluggishness since Budokai is the same.
Arc Sys' only fighting games are GG, Battle Fantasia and HnK. Sammy published both Rumble Fish and GG though. Battle Fantasia was either published by Arc themselves or Taito. So if there was a Sammy vs. Capcom and they were ONLY going to use the Arc properties that Sammy published, they could only really use GG. But like I said, Sammy has published other games, fighters included.
This is the only promotional art that was made for Capcom vs. Sammy:
!
The Dan vs. Anji Mito expression is priceless.
I like the Slayer/Dmitri staredown myself.
Now why'd you have to show that image Gohn? Now I'm hyped for nothing. I'd so buy Sammy vs Capcom. Darkstalkers seem to fit with GGXX for some reason. Dimitri/Slayer is the highlight even tho Demitri looks kinda ugly.
Ky has totally got his eyes on Ken's crotch.
Sol must not be putting out.
I personally like the Dan and Anji stare down.
Whole thing is pretty badass tho, Glad to see they put yun in the promo.
@Cyringohn:

Uh oh, Destined Rivals: Low-Tier Smackdown!!!!!!
I would so buy this game if it existed.
Anji Mito don't give a shit 'bout no tiers.
Dan's Saikyo Style + Pink Gi = Omnipotence
anji was a little cheesy at times tho (well the people i knew that played with him anyway)

Do you think half the guilty gear roster is "cheesy"?
potemkin,ino,and Leopaldon. Not quite half
maybe i should stop posting before I get whacked off in my apartment by the fighting game mafia
Gohn just isn't sure what "cheesy" means to you.
Leopaldon is a cheap fuckshit, though. That's for sure.
cheesy is equivalent to cheap
thats the word we use around the arcade world around here
Potemkin is far from cheap. He takes a lot of skill to use properly.
I-No isn't good enough to be cheap.
It can be a number of new possibilities. From my understanding, CAPCOM never really wanted to quit on the 2D fighters they had done so much for the genre especially with games like the VS series namely the most popular Marvel Vs CAPCOM 2, however if you remember around this time, CAPCOM didnt have that many successful franchises other than the Resident Evil series at the time on the PS1 and Veronica on the DC. At the time the PS2 had just came out, the Gamecube was on the way and so was the newcommer the Xbox. CAPCOM knew it needed to be around for this gen and thus made the choice to focus on the future 3d franchises that they have made now. Devil May Cry series is one. I think they never wanted to give up on the fighting games, they if you can also remember before CAPCOM Fighting Jam came out tried to make another game CAPCOM Fighting All Stars but they just gave up on it because of all the negative feedback, this was after they had done the Street Fighter EX series, the game has only one original character they brought to another game that is Ingrid. The concept of that game was ok, they had Strider and Charlie and a couple of others. Then shortly after that they decided to completely concentrate on 3d games, after much complaining CAPCOM USA decided to make Fighting Jam. Well the market for Street Fighter is still better in JP but is really close to it here in the states. However thanks to services like Xbox Live and PS3 Downloadable Service CAPCOM can go and bring back the feel of arcades and do new stuff. See Street Fighter II HD this oct. What can it be indeed.
Well Im going to say that is going to be a new Vs game. What kind? Hmm a new Fighting Jam this time made by CAPCOM JP. That would be interesting.
I wouldn't get my hopes up for a new Vs. Game or SF just yet. Knowing Capcom, this game will just be a beta for more 2d games to come. Probably will be something just to test the water then they'll move on to something much bigger. Don't expect this to be a mindblowing 2d fighter.
Oh yeah, speaking of SF2HD, Capcom hints that they'll consider giving the same treatment to other 2d Capcom fighters (ala Darkstalkers, Alpha, SF3). So if SF2HD is successful, expect other fighters from Capcom to follow suit.
I'm hoping they'll do DS since those games haven't had new sprites in years, plus the series doesn't get near as much exposure as SF. I'd kill to see a redrawn HD version of Demitri, Pyron and Jedah.
I just wish Capcom never gave up on All Stars. Mike Haggar in a fighter again…
All Stars was supposedly really shitty. Haggar would have been awesome for sure, never really understood why they didn't put him in Fighting Jam (though it sucked too) but it didn't looked promising at all. Pseudo 3d + crappy generic character design for the new characters + disastrous opinions from the beta testers = scrapped project.
Yeah, fans kept bitching about "itz teh 3d" and Capcom cancelled it. As a result, we recieved the piece of shit that is CFE. Shame, cuz from the beta vids I saw of the game, CFAS looked like a spiritual successor to Rival Schools (which was awesome BTW). I think the game would've came out fine. And with a sequel or two, actually become a worthy fighting series.

Yeah, but I definitely would've preferred it to FIGHTING JAM.
Oh boy, more Ryu, Ken, Morrigan, and some generic monster fags from a game no one played. Oh, and INGRID as if anyone gave a shit about her.
What fighting jam had no Ken. I mean three different versions of street fighter and still no Ken. i didn't even think about playing it once i heard that
Oh, it didn't have Ken?
Well my point stands.
It's amazing how many people are obsessed with Ken, even though he isn't really much of anything.
He's a hyperactive Ryu with dyed hair that give the peace sign.
Well, people like Ken cuz he's usually pretty good in most of the fighters he appears in (especially SF3).

You know, I hear tell that Capcom has released Street Fighter games after SF II…maybe you should play them.
@B.M.F.:

Too bad Ken is still the same bland character in all of those games.
No matter what the new game is… It needs more Adon.
Muay thai FTW.
Yeah, Adon is awesome. He definitely needs to be in more games. Although storyline wise, Akuma most likely killed him.
If it really is a Sengoku Basara based game, you have so much potential…a ton of awesome characters with unique styles and the like...well, A Darkstalkers 3 or a Rival Schools 3 (I haven't even played 2.....) would be pretty damn great too. Imagine, it'd have a new Morrigan sprite....the world would implode.
Ah screw them, I just want to crack skulls with Tadakatsu and co....
Anyway, out of left field corner: what would the most randomly absurd for this fighter? my pick: Breath of Fire: The Fighting!
Darkstalkers 3 already exists - it was made for the PS1 eight or nine years ago.
I would KILL for a Darkstalkers 4. With Udon art or something.
My god, I would be so happy if there was another Rival Schools. I still have my Dreamcast and 2 is a blast to play with friends, but I'm pretty pissed off that they took out one of my favorite characters from the original (the big badass bear-principle). Playing Namco X Capcom just made me want another more, actually.
No matter what this fighter is, though, I imagine I'll enjoy it. I never get too deep into fighting games, but almost all of the Capcom ones are at least fun to beat friends around in.
@Cyringohn:
Too bad Ken is still the same bland character in all of those games.
You must've not played 3rd Strike or the III series at all. XD Man I would love to show you how good ken really is. Hmm maybe if they redo SFIII 3rd Strike one day and add online I can show you. Well I think it would be really awesome if they did a Rival Schools 3, man 2 is fun I was just playing it, Roberto pwns :D
Oh and for no reason really I like Ken this much
I always hated Adon, personally. Sagat's my man.
Him, Gen, Rolento, Dan, Sodom, E. Honda, (and if we're including SF3) Oro and Dudley are my favorite characters in the series.
You have excellent taste Carter. Although Honda is abit questionable. Other than that, nice list, I'd say Rolento is my favorite out of that list. The Special where he hangs you is just awesome.
I'd say from SF, that Guy is probably my favorite tho. A very interesting design for a ninja (Air Force Ones). And looking at Aldrich's sig, he kinda looks like that Gara guy in a way. Then Dan, Alpha Bison, Akuma, Cody and Alex.
E. Honda's on there because I love sumo. It's always great to see wrestlers portrayed in ways other than "HA HA HA FAT." Plus he was probably my favorite from SF2, next to Sagat.
I never gave a shit about Guy personally. Maybe part of it's because i was miffed that he and Cody got in yet Haggar didn't.
Agree with u on that, Haggar should've definitely been a SF game. I'd love to be able to actually play out the Haggar vs Zangief rivalry.
Never got why the excluded Haggar since an obscure character like Maki of all people got in a fighter and she was only in one game. Not to mention she was a lame imitation of Guy.
I was a Blanka fan myself.
My god, I would be so happy if there was another Rival Schools.
Cosigned. Although, I think I heard somewhere that they'd lost the license after that DC flopped or made an official announcement of "no more sequels" or something. Which would be dumb considering it had the highest "fun" factor of all their fighting games period. Although game companies make press releases saying "never again" then a few years later make another sequel sooo…
I heard this is gonna be something new like many ppl pointed out tho. Sammy V Capcom would've been so bitchin' it's not even funny!
I always wondered why they chose kyosuke to be in the capcom vs games. There were much better characters in rival schools.
yeah seriously
Daigo comes to mind 1st (his team attack is the best in the original)
or why they chose only Kyoko & Hideo to be in NxC….a Daigo-Akira team would be much more awesome!
As for Haggar, isn't he just a Zangief ripoff? (or the other way around, I don't know) Having another grappler that similar to one who's already in isn't that great...although I like him a lot more than Gief. BTW, Final Fight crew's the best, Cody especially!

Wow, way to totally not realizing what somebody is talking about. Nobody said Ken was a shitty character, gameplay-wise. He's one of the three best characters in Third Strike.
But anyway, Birdy is the baddest mother fucker in Street Fighter Alpha.
@Cyringohn:
Too bad Ken is still the same bland character in all of those games.
but main characters are usually rather boring compared to the lesser ones. Like sol and ky in guilty gear. Compared to dudes like faust and zappa, they too are rather bland.
and I always used Yun on the PSP version of alpha, which was the only one I bothered buying due to the portability.
Makoto was my personal favorite in 3rd strike. Didn't use yun because I'd hate being a tier whore. Makoto is ALMOST top, but not really.
Isn't he better than Ryu in most of them? At least in 3rd strike. Hes the best character in the game.
… -Forehead Palm-
As previously stated, Gohn never even once mentioned Ken's gameplay.
But yeah, it's generally agreed that Ken is the best character, followed by Yun and Chun-Li.

Not really - Ky and Sol just don't have bags over their heads or ghosts dripping from their ass crack. Ky and Sol are extremely unique characters, especially for being main characters.
I would be happy about Ky being french if only these japanese bastards didn't make him collect tea cups. Seriously wtf is that?
As for the original SF2 characters my favorites were Blanka and Guile. I was a real pain in the ass with Guile, spamming Sonic Boom and playing the counter attack style to near perfection. Sagat is awesome as well but too overpowered.

Didn't read page five. Topic opened up on the last post of page 4, which was the one I quoted.
and about them being unique, are we talking designs or backstory/personality?
