I liked a good handful of FFVII's characters, but a lot of their interaction was pretty meh (pretty much anything involving Cloud or Vincent kind of sucked). Barret and Cid were amazing though.
Dissidia: Final Fantasy (It's a fighter it seems…)
-
-
Oh, Cid and Cait Sith were hilarious. Barret was okay, but always preferred Cid over Barret.
The problem is that those aren't the primary characters. Having good secondary characters doesn't make up for the fact that the plot-driving characters fucking suck.
-
I think I would have enjoyed VII more plotwise had they kept it the stuff that Hironobu Sakaguchi originally had.
Nomura recalled the creation of the game's plot, which was originally written by Hironobu Sakaguchi, now of Mistwalker. Nomura, who claims to still have a copy of the plot, noted how "completely different" it is from the final version. "I think he wanted to do something like a detective story? There was a character called Hot Blooded Detective Joe."
The Midgar city was already in place at this point. The early part of the story that was written by Sakaguchi involved Detective Joe chasing after the main characters, who then blow up the city.
Now that would have been fantastic.
-
Pfft, that wouldn't have enough swords and love story for Nomura.
The games he works on are literally this: The protagonist, who has no leadership qualities yet everybody wants to obey every word he says, with a sword must save the world from utter destruction while simultaneously attempting to seal the relationship with his bitch [who's always a healer/support character], with neither of them outright stating how they feel about anything until the last disc. Moreover, the villain is always misunderstood and/or related to one of the other characters directly, so the player isn't sure whether or not to feel sorry fighting against said villain.
-
Ok then I who did characters for VI? That's the BEST Final Fantasy in my eyes, I would also love to see Sabin, or Kefka or maybe even Shadow in this new one.

Yoshitaka Amano did designs for I-VI and for IX.
I want to see some IV, V, and VI characters, but I doubt they will choose any of my favorites. According to Wikipedia, each character is going to have a "villain counterpart" or something.
So it will probably just be stuff like one hero character and one villain (maybe Kefka) from VI or something.
Any of these would make me happy:
IV: Edward, Edge, Kain, Cid, Yang
V: Gilgamesh
VI: Edgar, Sabin, Shadow, CyanI'm probably forgetting some at the moment though.
-
Gilgamesh is required for this game.
-
@Cap'n:
Gilgamesh is required for this game.
Yeah, I doubt they could pick anyone from V that would make a better fighting game character than Gilgamesh.
-
I hope Galuf makes it as well.
OTHER CHARACTERS I NEED TO SEE:
Kefka
Umaro
Cid Highwind
Yang
Quina
Steiner -
Yeah I notice that too, I wonder why they went with PSP rather than PS3?
I believe they went along the lines of something about having one screen is better than a split screen in versus mode. I can't remember much though.
Those who want where I got it, somewhere in the Dissidia thread in the Final Fantasy section of Gaiaonline. Yes it's from Gaia, no it doesn't suck because the whole thread is organized…yes Gaia in general does suck by the way...
Also, do we even know if any side characters will join the battle? looks like the theme is light versus dark. From what I am seeing, I think only the leaders and lead boss duke it out along with the others. I have yet to see a Steiner,Cid,Zell,Galuf, or Shadow anywhere...I mean along those lines.
-
Man, Garland has got a badass voice there. Can't say the same about Zidane, though, since a girly-boy voice doesn't work for Mr. Princess-Butt-Grabber, at least for me.
Though I probably won't pay much more attention to this, at least until we get a nice big character roster. Then I can decide whether it's worthwhile or not.
-
@Cyringohn:
Personally, characters are more important than plot. You can get away with having an average plot if your characters are unique and brilliant, but it doesn't really work the other way around.
You should know that it does work the other way around, as you are a fan of Death Note.
Not the Biggest final fantasy fan, but the game does have me interested.
Noticed alot of the mention of kefka, so I googled him as I have no idea who the dude is.
I must agree that he should be in.
I can't help but laugh at the sephiroth scenes anymore. I didn't even like him before square whored him out.
-
-

Too bad that all the characters in Death Note, even the stocky Japanese police, all stand out, have completely different physical designs, have interesting quirks and personalities, etc.
Yeah, because Yagami Light, L, Near, Mello, Amane Misa, Ryuk, and Mikami Teru are all poorly designed characters that have the same facial designs and are easily lost in the monotonous cliché of the manga world. OH WAIT NO THEY'RE NOT

L is the only worthwhile character in the series.
The rest are just static, cliche characters. They were well constructed and characterized through the plot, but that doesn't change the fact that they just weren't that interesting. (imo.)
I guess I'm just unobservant, but after reading like 40 chapters straight trying to finish the series, I STILL didn't know the police forces names, and that did not really affect my ability to follow the plot.
Yes, the characters did not follow the cliche's of the shounen world, but the characters also lacked that charm of those shounen characters.
Partly why I couldn't watch the anime. When you know everything that is going to happen in the plot, show just loses it's appeal, since characters (besides L.) just aren't anything special.
This all comes down to opinion tho, I just found the Death note characters to be really boring. They all remained exactly the same from start to finish. Without seeing any growth or development, it is hard to truly get attached to the characters.
All death note has is the really interesting plot. Once you take that away, all you are left with is boring characters who represent ideas more than being actual characters(like raito's dad was said to represent true justice by the artist).

Yea he is pretty cool, I do see him being in this game, I cant think of another bad guy in this game that would be worth it more than kefka…maybe Ziegfried XD j/k. I would love to see Shadow and Sabin though, and Edgar, man they were my favorites. Hmm I wonder if they would put Mog in here? That would be weird.

Most of those characters were pretty boring. Ryuk, Watari, L, and Shouchirou were the only characters I really enjoyed.
The cops were nothing more than stand-ins. The only thing I remember about one of them was how much of a gay he was.
-
I remember Mogi too, but only because I was convinced he was mentally retarded half the series.
-
L is the only worthwhile character in the series.
Why, because he's the most eccentric out of all of them? Yagami Light's evolution was much more interesting than watching L put fifteen sugar cubes in his tea.
The rest are just static, cliche characters. They were well constructed and characterized through the plot, but that doesn't change the fact that they just weren't that interesting. (imo.)
You're more than welcome to "not find them interesting". Nobody can force you to like anything.
I guess I'm just unobservant, but after reading like 40 chapters straight trying to finish the series, I STILL didn't know the police forces names, and that did not really affect my ability to follow the plot.
That's just you being lazy and not bothering to remember the names of characters that appear over and over and over again. Moreover, most of the Japanese police, aside from Ide Hideki, played a vital role in the plot, especially Aizawa Shuichi.
Yes, the characters did not follow the cliche's of the shounen world, but the characters also lacked that charm of those shounen characters.
That doesn't make sense. The cliché, overused characters have 'charm', but the unique characters don't?
Partly why I couldn't watch the anime. When you know everything that is going to happen in the plot, show just loses it's appeal, since characters (besides L.) just aren't anything special.
Yeah, because a manga based on characters that could actually exist in real life isn't 'special'. Most people want to buttfuck L because he's the closest to a 'fantasy character' that Death Note has.
This all comes down to opinion tho, I just found the Death note characters to be really boring. They all remained exactly the same from start to finish. Without seeing any growth or development, it is hard to truly get attached to the characters.
Yagami Light evolved throughout the entire series. Aizawa Shuichi also had a great amount of development, as did Yagami Soichiro
All death note has is the really interesting plot. Once you take that away, all you are left with is boring characters who represent ideas more than being actual characters(like raito's dad was said to represent true justice by the artist).
All characters in any manga can 'represent' something. Luffy represents determination and the unyielding desire to accomplish one's dreams. Too bad that doesn't make him a "boring character".

@Cap'n:
Gilgamesh is required for this game.
Give him an attack that'll hit ANYWHERE on the battle field and this game is win!
BTW isn't the PS3 capable of running PS3 games?
-
@Freeman-12:

I'd certainly hope so
-
@Freeman-12:

You could probably stuff a fucking apple into the PS3 and play a game with that.
Which is why it's "FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY-NINE U.S. DOLLARS".
-
Some mod move this to the game section please.
Bumped for this.
!
-
Heh, wasn't even thinking about Firion getting in on this game.
-
Oh hey, Ultimecia
-
This game is gonna be chock full of angsty guys with excessively large swords and that upsets me. I hope they have more than that, I wanna see some characters that don't use swords for once.
-

There's still Zidane and Kuja. And Ultimecia apparently.
-
Heh, wasn't even thinking about Firion getting in on this game.
If Firion managed to get in this game, there's no excuse for someone like Gilgamesh to not be in.
-
Firion's Special Move: Attack self to raise own HP
-
Haha, I just noticed that Squall still have the meter for Renzokuken. Nice.
-
@Kidany:

Firion = Main Character
Gilgamesh = Reappearing CharacterAt the very least he gets a cameo.
-
Yeah, I'd say Gilgamesh has a pretty solid chance.
Especially since Exodus just doesn't strike me as someone who'd fit in
-
Wow, Nomura managed to make Squall look even less masculine. And look a side skirt, the one Nomura cliche Squall was previously lacking. Why couldn't he look more like the KH "Leon" design, that one was great imo.
And with Firion, I take it all the main characters and main badguys are in this game for sure.
-
I want Yuna in it with a different voice actor. >.>
I support Cait Sith, Quina, and Ramza.
-
And with Firion, I take it all the main characters and main badguys are in this game for sure.
Yeah if an FF2 character is making an appearance, I think it's guaranteed the others will likely have representation in this game. No kind of list has been released yet I'm guessing since we're all still guessing on who might be in right?
-
I really want some other characters in the game.
So far though I've only seen main character and lead villain.
I want Final Fantasy VII Cid, he was bad ass. -
@Kidany:
If Firion managed to get in this game, there's no excuse for someone like Gilgamesh to not be in.
This woman speaks the truth.
-
So far the confirmed guys are:
FF1:
"Warrior of Light"
GarlandFF2:
Firion
EmperorFF7:
SephirothFF8:
Squall
UltimeciaFF9:
Zidane
Kuja -
We all know it's a given Cloud will appear.
I want to see Bartz/Buttz. Maybe even Terra or Locke? -
So THIS is where this thread went and ran off to, I was trying to find it earlier in Video Games and didn't feel like making my own. Firion looks pretty awesome to me (I thought I could never say something good about FFII), and Squall having a Renzokuken bar is good too.
And why is it that XI always makes me hold out some really unlikely hopes? I'd love to see them find someone big enough in the story to put in Dissidia (Lion/Shadow Lord or Aldo/Kam'lanaut, maybe) but.. more likely they're just going to ignore it.
-
If anyone from XI should be in the game, it's Maat
-
Maat (that bastard gave me the most stressful fight in my life) and Gilgamesh (older one, not XI one) for the secret characters then.
And I GUESS they could throw in Lightning, since I doubt they'd have a villain for XIII to put in the main roster with her.
-
…..Holy shit, I didn't hear about this at all. Like Smash Bros. with FF characters, eh? Fucking awesome.
-
@Cap'n:
If anyone from XI should be in the game, it's Maat
Who is that, is he someone who helps you in FFXI, or is he a final boss or something?(I've never played the game so I know next to nothing about what's in it)
-
Basically
He puts you through several quests in order to raise your level cap (you originally can't go higher than 50), and then to raise it all the way to 75 you have to fight him 1-on-1.
You get his cap if you beat him with every job.
-
Sorry what I meant was 'shouldn't a PS3 be able to play PSP games?'
Anyway, so Leon and Firion huh? Hope there'll be other characters from the game in this one. -
OMG Tidus is in!
Apparently he is revealed in the trailer shown at JUMP Festa. -
What a total shocker
-
Now imagine if Waka was added…
-
@Freeman-12:
Now imagine if Waka was added…
My bets on Yuna or Rikku if any other X characters….
Speaking of which, there haven't been any female conformations other than Ultimecia have there?
